Wii fitness age
[edit]I believe we are missing an important detail in the wii fitness section. Is it better to have a higher or lower age? We should include the answer to that question.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.210.178.8 (talk • contribs)
- Wouldn't that be obvious? The lower a persons fitness age, the better. TJ Spyke 05:11, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- Should we include that the wii fitness age calculation is designed for adults and that children might get an inacurate scoring? Moccamonster (talk) 13:47, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- If you can find a reliable source for it, I don't see why not. Depending on the content of the source, it would either need to go to the "Gameplay" or "Reception" section. (Guyinblack25 talk 14:41, 20 February 2008 (UTC))

GA
[edit]Congratulations! I have decided to pass wii sports's GA nomination. Wii sports is a very well written article, with plenty of references (it would have too many if there was such a thing). It is also well illustrated. I have just one question. The picture with guest B bowling, what platform is that? :) RC-0722 communicator/kills 04:39, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Although the article was passed as a GA, one of the requirements of the GA criteria states that non-free images need fair use rationales. The image in the infobox and the screenshot both need detailed fair use rationales or the article may be delisted. Leave a message here once the FURs have been added. Happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 05:47, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- How silly of me, thanks for catching that. Fair use rationales have been added.
- RC- Per your question, I assume you're referring to the video game console the screen shot is for. It is from the Nintendo Wii. (Guyinblack25 talk 13:38, 7 February 2008 (UTC))

Pool
[edit]Have I just dreamt this or wasn't there a pool game as well in the package? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.93.212.64 (talk) 22:18, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- I believe that is Wii Play. (Guyinblack25 talk 23:18, 5 October 2008 (UTC))
Easter eggs?
[edit]I've seen easter eggs on YouTube and I think that they should be included in this article? Anyone agree? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.144.240.88 (talk) 02:08, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I guess it depends on how notable the easter egg is and if there is a reliable source that mentions it. Do you know of any other source besides YouTube? It isn't considered a reliable source on Wikipedia because the content is user created and there is little to no editorial oversight. (Guyinblack25 talk 14:35, 13 March 2008 (UTC))
- Easter eggs are not generally notable, and in this case they definitely aren't. Easter eggs are only notable in cases where they significantly change the game, cause controversy covered in news sources (like the GTA3 "Hot Coffee" incident), or otherwise do something that the world finds really interesting. I don't think changing the color of your bowling ball or causing the pins to explode count. In any event, the section is also poorly written and does not meet WP:MOS or VGProj guidelines. I deleted it outright, but an anonymous editor saw fit to revert the deletion, so I'm bringing my concerns here. The section is tagged for WP:GAMECRUFT for now. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 05:18, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- It is very notable. Ghost109 (talk) 00:43, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- How so? With respect to WP:N, can you point us to anything that says these Easter eggs are notable? — KieferSkunk (talk) — 06:01, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Because the pins fall in the shape of a heart, it shows Nintendo loves their gamers. Ghost109 (talk) 21:53, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- That's very nice of Nintendo to do that, but when we say notable, we mean has a reliable source (newspaper, magazine, TV show, etc.) felt it was worthy of being mentioned? That's the threshold of inclusion we have to follow when writing articles on Wikipedia. (Guyinblack25 talk 22:02, 6 June 2008 (UTC))
- Also, unless we had a source directly at Nintendo that said that was the reason they put that Easter egg into the game, it would be original research to arrive at that conclusion. It's like saying "The Miis are meant to represent people of all races and genders" or "the blue ball is meant to symbolize Nintendo's love of the color blue" or something like that. Without a source that can reliably back up such a claim, it's inappropriate to include. And without a notable reason for the Easter egg, the egg itself doesn't belong in the article.
- Additionally, dozens, if not hundreds, of video games have hidden messages from their developers to the gaming audience, some in the form of Easter eggs, others more directly stated within the game's context itself. Most of those are not included in their respective articles either. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 22:07, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah; unless I'm mistaken, WP: N dictates subject topic and not content, so we should be careful when using these links that are supposed to be supporting the case while also educating less experienced Wikipedians. Despite that, I agree with everything that's been raised in opposition to the section. Thanks. Ashnard Talk Contribs 22:31, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
No mention of the Wii Sports beta?
[edit]Mario series characters were originally meant to be used in Wii Sports.[1] I think this deserves a mention in the article. FightingStreet (talk) 16:19, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Wow, that's really cool. Is there another site that has screen caps or info like that? Unseen64.net doesn't look like it would pass as an reliable source. It doesn't say who owns it or where its content comes from. That's still a very cool site, maybe after the site is finished, it'll provide enough info to see if it can be a RS. (Guyinblack25 talk 16:28, 13 March 2008 (UTC))

Game Cover
[edit]Why is the game cover the PAL region one? How come it isn't the U.S. version (since this is English Wikipedia)? --haha169 (talk) 23:49, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- There have been several similar discussions on other game talk pages and the VG Project talk page. I don't believe there is a project-wide consensus as it all boils down to personal preference. For instance, a counter-argument to using the US version because this being the English Wikipedia is that the UK, Australia, and parts of Europe (all PAL regions) speak English. I personally don't care, but I think in this case it's just easier to not do anything as the PAL cover gets the job done. (Guyinblack25 talk 02:32, 27 March 2008 (UTC))
- Yeah, probably. If the image got past FA assessors, then its fine with me. Just curious. --haha169 (talk) 22:43, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- This is indeed the English Wikipedia. We speak English over here in England, and yet we use the PAL TV system. How remarkable! Tim (Xevious) (talk) 11:12, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Critical response clean-up
[edit]I added a clean-up tag to this section. It's poorly organized. Several sentences read like lists of pros and cons taken straight from reviews (i.e. "IGN liked this but didn't like this." "Gametrailers said this was bad.") Many of these criticisms are the same and don't need to be restated at scattered points throughout the section. For instance, it's mentioned several times that the game, or parts of the game, lack depth. Rather than stating it and restating it without any sort of smooth transitions, the point could be condensed into one or two senteces: "A common criticism of Wii Sports is the lack of depth found in several games" and then list one or two examples from reviews. There doesn't need to be so many quotations of specific review points if they're all referring to the same thing.
I'm also not sure about the few instances where ratings for specific parts of the game are mentioned ("GamePro rated the graphics xx/xx", "IGN rated the control xx/xx"). It seems to me that including that a review called the graphics "generic" and "archaic" is enough to get the point across. I guess the ratings just seem arbitrary to me when we're using the text.
Anyway, it needs a bit of a rewrite. The way it is now, it just reads poorly. Pele Merengue (talk) 07:20, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comments, when doing the re-write for this article for FA, this section seemed the weakest. Mainly because of the disjointed comments. I'll see if I can tweak things to improve the flow. (Guyinblack25 talk 14:11, 3 April 2008 (UTC))
Multiple Versions
[edit]I herd there were two different versons of Wii Sports. One newer than the other. Superjustinbros. (talk) 23:08, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
There are, in fact. I just discovered this today, when we got a new Wii Sports (we had lost the one that came with our Wii, which we got on launch day). It shows the Wiimotes on the player select screen with the covers on, and I believe there's a new clip at the start of any baseball game showing who's in the game on each team. 69.242.38.124 (talk) 22:48, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Sequel

- If you are unsure how to add in a reference. Post it here and we can add it in. (Guyinblack25 talk 17:34, 15 July 2008 (UTC))
- Found one and added it. It was also needed on the Wii Series page. Dp76764 (talk) 17:42, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Is Wii Sports Resort a sequel to this game? If so, we should add that to the article. Keyboard mouse (talk) 20:05, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
- It's mentioned in the "Impact" section. So we're good. (Guyinblack25 talk 14:42, 19 April 2010 (UTC))
I've read the first sentence of Wii Sports Resort, and it tells you that it's a sequel to Wii Sports. The sentence says "Wii Sports Resort (Wii スポーツ リゾート, Wii Supōtsu Rizōto?) is a collection of sports games for the Wii video game console and sequel to Wii Sports." Sonic120 (talk) 01:54, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Wii Fitness and Wii Training
[edit]I looked over this article a few times and I noticed there was no section on two extras on Wii Sports, Wii Training and Wii Fitness, unless I missed it is that something we can edit Jacbro11 (talk) 19:17, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- Besides the fact that there is no "Wii Training" or "Wii Fitness: (although you could mean "Wii Fit"), what extras are you talking about? TJ Spyke 17:14, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- I think he may be referring to the fitness test and training mode, which are mentioned in the "Player progress" section. I'm not entirely sure though. (Guyinblack25 talk 17:20, 24 July 2008 (UTC))
- Oh, OK. Since Nintendo started the whole "Wii ..." series, you never know. TJ Spyke 17:24, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- I think he may be referring to the fitness test and training mode, which are mentioned in the "Player progress" section. I'm not entirely sure though. (Guyinblack25 talk 17:20, 24 July 2008 (UTC))
Characters from the Mii Channel
[edit]"The in-game characters are taken from the Wii's Mii Channel." Is this correct? The ones that appear in the default game aren't user-made, so I don't see how they are taken from the Mii Channel. Indeed, I didn't have the Mii Channel installed until a few days after playing the game. - Dudesleeper / Talk 09:42, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- I think they only appear on the sideline (like when playing "Tennis"). Also, the Mii Channel comes pre-installed on the Wii (along with the Photo Channel and Wii Shop Channel). The only way you wouldn't have it installed is if you deleted it (or you bought your Wii used and the previous owner had deleted it). TJ Spyke 23:23, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I just came back to correct myself. It was the "Check Mii Out" channel that I installed. Got confused. - Dudesleeper / Talk 00:30, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Best-Selling Game of All Time
[edit]According to this [3], Wii Sports has sold 40.24 million units, surpassing Super Mario Bros., making it the best-selling game (bundled or not) of all time. I would say that this information is very notable, and should be added to the article. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 21:11, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- No. VG Chartz is not a reliable site (long story short: their BS their numbers). They are not considered a reliable source by WP:VG either. TJ Spyke 21:15, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- All right. Just checking first. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 21:17, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sure Wii Sports has done it though, Nintendo should be released their next financial report (covering October 1-December 31) later this month. TJ Spyke 21:49, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- Did a google news search and found three reliable sources: CNET, GamePro and CVG. I figured a bold statement like that would need some backing up from multiple independent sources. I'll try to add it in later today, but if someone else wants to please feel free. (Guyinblack25 talk 22:22, 6 January 2009 (UTC))
- They are all quoting VG Chartz though. A unreliable source does not become reliable just because an actual reliable source quotes them. Just wait until Nintendo releases their financial report later this month. TJ Spyke 22:27, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- Given the circumstances, I believe it is within policies as a tertiary source. Plus VG Chartz is listed as unreliable on WP:VG/S because its reliability is questionable, not explicitly unreliable. But I'm in no rush to add the content, so we can certainly wait until other sources pop up that verify it. (Guyinblack25 talk 22:48, 6 January 2009 (UTC))
- Yahoo is another source (even though it quotes VGA Chartz). However, it would probably be best if we waited a little while to make sure Wii Sports made that many sales. There is no rush, if VGA Charts turns out to be wrong, then we can simply wait to add the best-selling thing. Parthian Scribe 09:27, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

last line of development section makes no sense
[edit]"Wii Sports was bundled with the Wii because Nintendo did not expect players to purchase the system solely to play the game. Nintendo thought by including it with the Wii, players would be more likely to play it, and if they enjoyed the game, that enjoyment would spread."
Nintendo is a company that wants to make money (like any other company). Presumably they bundled the game to increase sales of the wii and to generate interest and possibly because the game wouldn't sell well separately. These sentences are badly written and I can't really see what they are trying to say. Can someone clean these up so that they explain the choice to bundle wiisports? Greatunknown1 (talk) 17:25, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- I rewrote it. That part is weird because the phrasing used in the interview is weird too. From the GameSpot interview
- "Due to the portable nature of the DS, it's easy to share the fun of a good game with a friend on the spot. With the Wii, however, the hurdle was much higher, you had to say "Hey, I've got this fun game, Wii Sports, want to come over and play?" [Chuckles]
- That's why, at our press conference to introduce Wii, I said that the DS's popularity is no guarantee for the Wii. The reason is the difficulty of conveying the fun of the Wii to people. I felt that we'd never be able to leap that hurdle if we didn't put 110 percent of our effort into spreading the word to the customers.
- After a lot of discussion on that, we decided to bundle Wii Sports with the hardware in regions outside of Japan. I figured that some people might buy a Wii because they want to play Zelda, but we didn't think that the majority of initial Wii purchasers would buy the console to play Wii Sports. But the people who bought the Wii--and I hesitate to put it this way--were stuck with Wii Sports whether they liked it or not. Our theory was that if people played it and found more enjoyment than they'd expected, that enjoyment would quickly spread to the people around them."
- Let me know if it's clearer. (Guyinblack25 talk 17:45, 22 June 2009 (UTC))
Actual age and fitness age
[edit]In this edit by Dudesleeper, it is claimed that the fitness age output by the game is partly based on a player's actual age. This seems to have gone unchallenged since being added over 8 months ago, but is surely false, yes? At no point does the player enter their year of birth - unless there are regional variations that I am unaware of. Is this claim supported by the Nintendo Power reference at the end of that paragraph? DoktorMandrake 01:13, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- I don't remember reading anything about that in my research for the game and have removed the content. Thanks for bringing it to the talk page. (Guyinblack25 talk 01:27, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- You don't enter anything based on age, so the test results are only based on how well you do in the games. Sonic120 (talk) 02:01, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
- I think that person was confusing Wii Sports with Wii Fit. -03:31, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Because 20 is the best possible age, people under 20 years old will always end up with an age older than their actual age. Sonic120 (talk) 02:01, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Sports pack for Revolution
[edit]When reading the Wii Sports disc to USB-Harddisk, the title for the game was originally called SPORTS PACK for REVOLUTION. Now since the Wii was originally called Revolution, wouldn't that mean this was a Pre-Release title for the game? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.149.54.128 (talk) 23:01, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit]I noticed that Dolby was not mentioned in the page which confuses me because on there logo is on the bottom left on the start screen (not the title screen.) Why is Dolby not mentioned? OPedia123 (talk) 20:10, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
The logo is on the bottom right. OPedia123 (talk) 20:11, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
