Wii

Why are the two i's in "Wii" always lowercase? Even when writing in all-caps? Interactive Fiction Expert/Talk to me 09:42, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thats upper-case w, lower-case L and lower-case L then upper-case w, upper-case i and upper-case i. See what I mean? I forgot the text when editing Wikipedia looks different from the edited result. Lanfear's Bane | t 10:49, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
For the same reason that iTunes is always begun with a lowercase i - it's a brand name and thus the company can dictate spelling and punctuation. Other examples include Panic! At the Disco. Kuronue | Talk 21:13, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Obscure 1979 movie

Nearly two decades ago, I watched this motion picture on TV. It was called 2 Catch 2. (The movie was originally released in 1979). I haven't seen it since. Will it ever come out, digitally restored, on DVD?72.229.136.18 (talk) 14:39, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not unless it was a really popular movie back then. Sorry, I don't think that you will ever see it on DVD unless it is really high in demand--Dlo2012 (talk) 14:58, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe your thinking of Catch 22 good book, not such a good movie apparently.
Catch-22 was released in 1970, and was well-liked, despite the box office receipts. 2 Catch 2 is an actual movie, released in 1979 (as stated in the original question). There is an entry for it at the All Movie Guide, although nothing shows up on IMDB. As far as a DVD release (digitally restored or not), Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. --LarryMac | Talk 18:01, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name of an "angry" movie.

There was a movie mentioned in VH1's I love the 90s that was about a normal man (I think he may have been played by Tom Arnold, not sure) that snaps under the pressures of modern life. The only thing I remember is a clip where he goes to McDonald's and orders a breakfast sandwich only to find that it is exactly one minute after 11 o'clock and they stopped serving breakfast items - he then aims a Mac-10 at the cashier and yells (and swears) at her to give him his breakfast sandwich. Talk is cheap

Where did this phrase originate, does anyone know? The wiki articles are just on the albums. I think its quite a nifty, nugget-sized phrase. SGGH speak! 18:56, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is related to the proverb "Speech is silver, silence is golden". SaundersW (talk) 10:26, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
One early religious reference is Judah ben Ilai's comment on Psalm 65 ("For thee praise is silent.") "Silence is the cure to everything: when R. Dima came from Palestine, he said that in the West they say: "A word is worth a sela, and silence two." " [1]. (Different English translations to be found.)---Sluzzelin talk 13:20, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Now, that's an interesting connection. I've always interpreted these phrases quite differently. For me,
  • "... silence is golden" is about the difference between saying something and not saying anything, particularly if what you have to say is not of much value, whereas
  • "talk is cheap" is about the difference between merely talking about conquering that huge mountain up ahead (anyone can do that) and actually doing it (which takes a special skill or effort). -- JackofOz (talk) 21:35, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'd usually interpret "talk is cheap" along those lines too, but the connection still comes to mind. There are other phrases lying somewhere in between. "Put your money where your mouth is" or "Put up or shut up", for example, could merely imply the "action" of risking one's money in a bet, but not necessarily of "doing" what is talked about. (Exact origins of the money-mouth phrase are uncertain but the gambling etymology seems plausible according to here). There can be various reasons too why silence is worth more than talk. One reason, as you wrote, is "if what you have to say is not of much value" or even of negative value, as in the phrase attributed to Boethius: "Si tacuisses, philosophus mansisses." ("If you had kept your silence, you would have remained a philosopher"). Another reason could be the inadequacy of words to express something, as in the Psalms example where silent praise is appropriate because words cannot do justice to God's great goodness. (More words, but I still found no sourced origins of the exact phrase "talk is cheap".---Sluzzelin talk 07:39, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, sure, if you Google "Louis Philippe" correctly spelled, you get tens of thousands of pages about the 19th-century King Of France (or King Of The French, I'm not sure what they were calling him at the time), but there's nothing in all the hits that would explain why a 19th-century French King is to blame for the fact that "the color keeps". Trying to remember a TV movie

I've been trying to recall the name of an American television movie from roughly the early 1980s. It was about a luxury ocean liner from earlyish in the 20th century (20s or 30s) that sank. When the wreck is found, many of the survivors of the ship are still alive (!) living in the trapped air of the ship and have developed some technologies to help them live (yeah, I know, not very plausible). I believe it was played on two successive nights originally, and I saw it repeated a couple of times in subsequent years. I don't recall which network it was on. Rule 34

I've been wondering this for years. According to Rule 34, there's pornography for everything - examples include the Smurfs, 9/11, and Cream of Wheat Cereal - but is there a kind of pornography where people are shown expressing intimacy and caring for one another? In other words, they aren't merely engaged in animalistic sex, but they seem to have a genuine relationship? I suspect it's the one exception to the Rule. If this is a genre, does it have a name?

Name of Science Fiction Trilogy

I can remember reading about a science fiction trilogy a short while ago. The anti-heroic protagonist was half-korean, or half-asian, and he was super trained, super solidier used to quell rebellions in a large earth empire that required constant military maintenance. One of the key things was a DNA memory card essentially, with which the rich could afford almost infinite longevity. But I can't for the life of me rememer the name of the author, protagonist, or title.

Actor in greatest number of films

According to his article, the record was "at one time" held by Sombat Metanee, with more than 600 film appearances, but I can't find any information on who supplanted him (perhaps the character actor mentioned by JackofOz?). Carom (talk) 12:52, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You used to be able to find this quite easily on imdb, but they've redone their "most prolific actors" count to include people like Jay Leno and Johnny Carson, counting each appearance on their talk show as a hit, so their top 20 is skewed towards actors in talk shows and people who have made lots of appearances on episodic tv. The top in this category is Richard Whiteley, but he hosted over 3000 episodes of Countdown. Looking through the top 20, the most prolific actor known primarly for movies is Morgan Freeman, but his count is skewed because he made over 700 appearances as Count Dracula on The Electric Company. Name of 2007/2008 film about Moroccan suicide bombing

I recently saw a film set in Tangiers about a young boy having a relationship with the daughter of an influential citizen of the same city. Thanks very much for your time. Someoneinmyheadbutit'snotme (talk) 02:41, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am not a musician, but from what I've heard and read, you should do it for passion, not lucre. Paid positions in your regional symphony orchestra are subject to intense competition. Respected and loved but not superstar rock musicians like Mike Watt are just getting by; the also-rans all seem to have day jobs. Various artist autobiographies I've read tend to dwell on precarious bank balances and lawsuits against music biz types who make their fortunes by not paying the talent.
My suggestion: find out what careers in software development are expected to have good futures. I've known people in three local firms and seemingly 1/3 the staff are in bands. Some of them are quite good players, but either they've given up on making a living that way, or never considered it a good idea in the first place.
Perhaps someone else will have something more encouraging to say. / edg 06:22, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm set on being a musician, and it's not about the money. I'm really just looking for someone actually in music who can answer the questions. Someoneinmyheadbutit'snotme (talk) 16:59, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. If anyone has seen this movie, what do they call that place in the desert where they have to get across it in one night or else they die by the morning sun? It has been nick-named God's Frying pan. Thanx.Jwking (talk) 04:23, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name that movie

Hey, another one of those awful "what is this movie" questions.... here goes. It's a black & white film about a British ex-Navy officer, who turns a pier into a cruise ship. I remember that at some point it involves a journalist drinking from a vase in a bank, and that the local council try to charge the pier docking fees. -mattbuck (Talk) 13:45, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could it be Barnacle Bill with Alec Guinness (found using pier "cruise ship" council navy site:imdb.com in Google)? It seems to have most of those elements - apparently:

As the movie starts, he wanders around London with a reporter in tow, carrying a keg of rum. He walks into a bank and bangs on the counter, demanding drinking glasses. A stunned Donald Pleasance, playing a bank clerk, stares back and says "we don't have glasses." Alec Guinness looks around in disbelief and says "No glasses? What do you do when famous people come in here?"[1]
