This is a discography of AC/DC, a Sydney, Australia-based hard rock band. Since 1975, the band have released 16 studio albums, 4 albums issued in Australia only, 5 live recordings, 13 video collections of concerts and music videos, and 7 box sets. Although a large number of AC/DC singles have been released, the band always refused to release any greatest hits type packages,[1] as Who Made Who, which served as the soundtrack to Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive, and the band's various live recordings are about as close as the group have come to such a compilation.[2]

AC/DC was formed in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young, and released two albums in Australia before releasing their first international effort, High Voltage with vocalist Bon Scott, bassist Mark Evans and drummer Phil Rudd. In 1980, Bon Scott died a year after the release of the successful Highway to Hell, and was replaced by British singer Brian Johnson, with whom AC/DC released their best selling album, Back in Black.[3] Their last album to date, Stiff Upper Lip, was released in 2000. A new album was announced in 2005,[4] and confirmed in 2008.[5]

Remasters

On February 2003, Epic Records released the first installment of a series of digitally remastered AC/DC albums. Each re-issued album is remastered from the original source tapes and is packaged in a deluxe digipak case with a booklet about the respective period.[12][13] Also, the re-released CDs use the ConnecteD Technology which can unlock exclusive band footage, such as rare audio, videos, photos, historically accurate memorabilia and tour dates.[14]

Although the entire band catalog was re-released in the United Kingdom,[15] in the United States only the albums that are over ten years old are digitally remastered, for example, Ballbreaker was re-released in 2005,[16] because it was originally released in 1995.
