Please post error reports regarding only what is currently on the Main Page or on Main Page/Tomorrow here.

Main Page error reports

To report an error you have noticed on the current Main Page or tomorrow's Main Page please add it to the appropriate section below. Errors can be fixed faster when a correction is offered, so please be specific. You can do this by pressing the [edit] button to the right of the appropriate section's heading. Also, please sign your post using four tildes (~~~~)

Note that the current date and time are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which may not coincide with your local time zone. The next day's featured article of the day, picture of the day, and anniversaries update at midnight (00:00) according to UTC. The current time is 12:22 on August 3, 2024 (UTC). (Update)

Once an error has been fixed, the error report will be removed from this page; please check the page's history to verify that the error has been rectified and for any other comments the administrator may have made. Lengthy discussions should not take place here, and should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere.

References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error, and a suggested rewording is helpful with a stylistic complaint. The main page usually defers to supporting pages when there is disagreement, so it is best to achieve consensus and make any necessary changes there first.

Errors in the summary of Today's featured article on the Main Page

Picture

Not an error, but should't a more suitable picture be used? A picture of Hitler seems a bit general. This one seems more appropriate, but that's just my opinion. --Soetermans | is listening | what he'd do now? 17:25, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I came here expressly for the purpose of saying that the image of Hitler is inappropriate and found the post above already in place. Sure, the image appears in the article, but it certainly isn't primary to the overarching topic such that it should appear as the associated image for that whole topic. That is what a picture next to the precis on the main page functions as. I am not saying something hysterical like we are celebrating Hitler by doing this, but anti-tobacco is seen by many as a wonderful, heroic thing, and giving Hitler primacy in this manner just doesn't feel right; it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 17:59, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How about this image then? --BorgQueen (talk) 18:05, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That is generally speaking the other way around - anti-smoking policies in general, not just in Nazi-Germany. But I do find it better than Adolf himself. --Soetermans | is listening | what he'd do now? 18:22, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That image is perfectly on point.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 20:05, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Which one, Fughetta? Hitler, the image I proposed, or the no smoking sign? --Soetermans | is listening | what he'd do now? 20:17, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Soetermans: your suggested picture cannot be used on the main page as it is a fair use image. I don't find the image of Hitler inappropriate at all - it is an article about one of his government's policies. Though obviously a free image of an anti-smoking ad from this era would be ideal, but unlikely to be found - Dumelow (talk) 21:56, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
BorgQueen's suggestion, of course. I had just posted against the Hitler image so how could I possibly have been talking about it? It is inappropriate for the reasons I've already detailed. However, the issue will be moot soon since we're near a day change, and thus presumably near a featured article change.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:04, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry 'bout that, Fughet, had a very long day today. I didn't even notice you posted before! Thanks for clearing that up, Dumelow, I wasn't familiar with the image policy. Alright, I'm off to bed! --Soetermans | is listening | what he'd do now? 23:58, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in Did you know?

The link you have to China in the first line on the "Did You Know" is about China's civilization. You should change it to People's Republic of China to get the country of China. Loghead1 (talk) 12:48, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
