The Navi Mumbai Metro is a rapid transit proposed for the city of Navi Mumbai, India. The total system consists of 6 corridors covering a distance of 117.3 km.[1] The entire system is planned to be elevated.
Corridors
A master plan consisting of six different corridors have been planned by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Corridor 1 [28.3 km]
This corridor begins at Uran and goes via Ranjanpada and ends at Nerul covering a distance of 28.3 km.
Corridor 2 [21 km]
This corridor covers a distance of 21 km and starts from Belapur and goes via Kharghar, Taloje, Kalamboli, Khandeshwar and ends at New Airport.
Corridor 3 [25 km]
The third corridor begins at Vashi and goes via Nerul and terminates at Panvel covering a distance of 25 km.
Corridor 4 [14 km]
The fourth corridor begins at Ranjanpada and goes via Kharkopar and finally terminates at Seawoods covering a distance of 14 km.
Corridor 5 [20 km]
The fifth corridor is planned over a distance of 20 km beginning at Dighe, going via Turbhe and terminates at Belapur.
Corridor 6 [9 km]
The sixth corridor begins at Vashi and ends at Mhape going via Ghansoli covering a distance of 9 km.
Phases
Corridor 2 is to be taken up at first and is planned to be built over 3 phases. The proposed route shall be from Belapur - Kharghar - Taloje - MIDC - Kalamboli - Khandeshwar railway station. This route is to be extended up to the proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport. A maintenance depot will be constructed on a 20 acre plot at Taloja for the circular line. A temporary maintenance depot will be constructed on a 5 hectare land at Khandeshwar.[2]
Phase I
In the first phase, Belapur to Taloje section would be constructed covering a distance of 10.79 km with 10 stations at Belapur Rly station, Sector-7 Belapur, Science Park, Utsav Chowk, Sector-14, Central Park, Pethapada, Sector-34, Panchnand and Pendhar.
Phase II
In the second phase, the section between Khandeshwar and Taloje MIDC will be constructed covering a distance of 8.15 km with 7 stations at Sector-10 Kamothe, Sector-2E Kalamboli, Sector-7E Kalamboli, Sector-10E Kalamboli, Kasadi and two railway stations in MIDC area.
Phase III
The third phase will connect the two sections build in Phases I and II by a link of 2.2 km so as to form a loop from Belapur to Khandeshwar
Project Status
- 29 April 2010: Navi Mumbai Metro gets approval.[3][4]
- 21 May 2010: No objections or suggestions for Navi Mumbai Metro in public hearing.[2]
