Wales and West Utilities operates the gas distribution network of the National Transmission System in the Wales and South West England regions. It is owned by a consortium led by the Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund. [1]

History

The company was formed following National Grid plc's decision to sell four of its local gas distribution zones in order to raise funds for expansion. The Wales & West Utilties consortium made a successful bid for the area, and began operations on 1 June 2005. It moved to its current headquarters at Celtic Springs Newport, in June 2006. It operates around 35,000km of gas pipelines with an estimated population of 7.4 million. [2]

The company has depots in Wrexham, Flint, Colwyn Bay, Haverfordwest, Swansea, Cardiff, Newport, Evesham, Swindon, Bristol, Bath, Trowbridge, Bridgewater, Exeter, Barnstaple, Torquay, Plymouth and Redruth. [3]
