Halloween Parade - Early years

hey, Paul, thanks for your encouragement with my Halloween Parade edit. i'm new to Wikipedia contribution, so it's nice to know i'm doing alright. don't know if i'll actually be at the parade, but i am participating in the Procession of Ghouls at St. John the Divine the night before (looks like it's not listed on Wikipedia; i should get on that).

has anyone contacted you about translating the Halloween Parade page into Spanish? johnny <O)))< —Preceding undated comment added 23:14, 25 October 2009 (UTC).[reply]

No, no one has contacted me about a Spanish version? paul klenk talk 22:59, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Announcement: My first article translated

On October 6, I received news that an article I wrote has been translated into Hungarian. It is New York's Village Halloween Parade (I am the sole author to date), and can now be read here: New York's Village Halloween Felvonulás. The translator, Alensha, did a terrific job, and would like to see it as a featured article at hu:wiki. It appears other Hungarian editors are already going to work to polish it up.

Update: The Halloween article has now been nominated for Featured article at hu:wiki. 00:14, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

This is part of an experiment in interlanguage collaboration I undertook beginning Oct. 1, 2005, in which I created user pages on 15 non-English wikis. I placed the same English message on each page, with an invitation to translate it. In two days, all 15 pages had been translated into German, French, Japanese, Polish, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, Portugese, Spanish, Chinese, Norwegian (both versions), Finnish, Russian and Danish. On Oct. 5, I created 15 more pages. Already translations have been made of the Hebrew, Catalan, Czech, Hungarian and Esperanto pages.

You can tour the first fifteen pages by using the menu located at the top of my English user page. Follow the arrows to the next link. The menu will follow you from page to page.

Talk page and archives

You might like how I've set up my talk page and talk page archives with transclusion (templates) and such. I'm putting a personalized template on archive pages to change their color, like a closed AFD. I need to update my archiving procedure to reflect that, but you might like some of the info there. Jdavidb (talk) 19:01, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I updated my archiving procedure explanation. It now gives more information about the templates. I was surprised you hadn't used the concept before; I thought I had seen it on your main user page, but I think all I saw must have been one of the templates in the Template: namespace. The big (recent) revelation for me was that you could do that to pages in other namespaces, including from your own user pages and subpages. Jdavidb (talk) 19:28, 7 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to see that your user page appeared in Serbian! I made a mental note to myself to translate it, but Milan was faster than me :] (job is done, that's important). Directions to New User Log

Hi! I noticed your question at nn:Talk:Main Page on where to find a New User Log. I believe the English page name Special:Log/newusers works on all wikis, just enter it in the search field and it will be translated if necessary. Hope this was what you were looking for. --Eddi (Talk) 00:22, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for noticing my question at nn:wiki, and for taking the time to contact me.
Actually, the page I am looking for is more like the equivalent of Wikipedia:New user log here at en:wiki. Do you know of such a page at nn:wiki? paul klenk talk 00:33, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood. Actually I don't think there is anything of that kind at nn: or no:. The closest I can think of is no:Wikipedia:Wikipedianere ("wikipedians") and no:Wikipedia:Brukerinteresser ("users' interests"), lists that aren't used very much. Generally people just present themselves on their user pages and, with nn: and no: not being very big, get to know each other quite well through various forums and projects, but not in an organised fashion like a user log. --Eddi (Talk) 02:00, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You, my friend, are doing some truly mindbending work. I can edit the main page, so I'd like to look into how I can get that new Bricktop article on the "Did You Know?" section. Don't know the protocol.

I'm kind of a big kid at heart and there's a serious lack of hobby-related articles. So, I've been adding some of the more interesting companies who produce that kind of stuff as I purchase some of their products myself and add them over at the new Wikicities radio control wiki. There's a link on my user page and I use the same screen name. I'd never heard of Castle Creations up until a few weeks ago, but both hobby shops in my area absolutely raved about their stuff. Fascinating history to boot...wish I could build a speed control from scratch! I was so impressed with an electronic speed control I bought for a new electic airplane of mine that I bought a brushless motor and speed control combo for my son's RC18MT 1/18 monster truck. (Yup, I wrote that article. Someone's already expanded it!) Damned little thing now streaks down the street at over 40 mph. With a battery upgrade, we're looking at 60 mph. - Lucky 6.9 18:10, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Paul!

A while back, we had talked about a case of cannabalism in Jamestown. I just thought you'd like to know that in the June 1st edition of Washington Monthly, there was the following quote in a book review for A Revolution in Eating: How the Quest for Food Shaped America.

Jamestown was settled in 1607, but no one bothered to plant a personal garden until 1610. Its colonists preferred instead to secure food through bartering with the native population or, in a few cases, simply eating each other--in one instance a Virginia colonist butchered his own wife, salted her flesh, and grilled her for dinner.

Just thought you'd like to know I wasn't crazy. Cheers mate. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 20:25, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it is: Add one scoop dead wife, thirteen hundred teaspoons of salt, and a pinch of paprika for color in a big mixing bowl. Grill until you forget that you're about to eat your wife, and enjoy! --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 20:40, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the imput at Gator's Rfa...I'm hoping it gets it as it has been some time since the Big Daddy thing and I think his actions there were fairly innocent in that he was still somewhat wet behind the ears at that point. Other than that period, his contributions are quite solid. I've seen you around and appreciate your help. As far as my Rfa...it was a long week for sure. I didn't solicit for votes and I might have faired better if I had but I was promoted anyway so it didn't matter. I'm dealing with a few issues at September 11, 2001 attacks over the useage of the term terrorist. We all wasted a ton of talk space to basically get back to what we had before we started. You need to fix your signature

Hi, Paul, you need to fix your signature. It's coming out all wrong. There was some bug or change of software at Wikipedia recently, and people had to reset their signatures as a result. What you need to do (I think!) is go to My preferences at the top of any page, and then replace your entire nickname with [[User:Paul Klenk|paul klenk]] [[User talk:Paul Klenk|talk]], making sure that the "raw signatures" box is checked. Then save. Regards, AnnH (talk) 08:17, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

my home phone number as username

Hi Paul,

On 00:48, 27 December 2005, someone posted an innucuous revision on the Biff Rose page...using a new username consisting of my home phone number beginning with 718. This is serious. This is blatant stalker behavior and an invasion of my privacy. It is probably illegal as well. I would like it hidden from public view, yet kept or at least witnessed for the sake of future prosecution of the parties involved. Is that possible? thank you. --Sojambi Pinola 07:55, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Peanutstimecommentmed.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). Disputed fair use rationale for Image:CharityOLCcd.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:CharityOLCcd.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:36, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article Calvary Baptist Church (Manhattan, New York) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

not clear how this orphaned article meets notability guidelines, lacks any references to 3rd party sources

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. RadioFan (talk) 15:39, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Calvary Baptist Church (Manhattan, New York), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Calvary Baptist Church (Manhattan, New York). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. RadioFan (talk) 01:23, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Paul Klenk! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 739 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Barbara Dever - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

AfD nomination of Ellie Light

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Ellie Light. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ellie Light (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:08, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Susan-orlean-by-gaspar-tringale-1.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Susan-orlean-by-gaspar-tringale-1.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.

NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4

We meet outside by the trees at 5:00 PM.

Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.

A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.

This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!

Fair use rationale for File:Jenkinsglory.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Jenkinsglory.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 22:42, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Jenkinsglory.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Jenkinsglory.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 16:14, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Shuffle.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Shuffle.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 06:05, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
