Changes to userbox templates

Hi, I've noticed that you've changed the color schemes of {{User mysql}}, {{User java}} and {{Php}}. Those userboxes are part of numbered sequences, and should follow the default colors of {{Userbox-level}} to be consistent with the rest of their sequences. I've left {{User standards compliant}}, though, because it's not part of any sequence. Please discuss changes to color schemes in the future, because you may inadvertently pick colors that don't contrast well or are not visible to the color blind.

Userboxes

Userboxes that general reflect a user's point of view are generally put in a User name space. If its put in the Template namespace it must very specifically read User after the Template:

Please see Userbox Namespaces. Also with in the community it was decided that a userbox mitigation would occur where all these user specific templates that did not contribute to the encyclopedic nature of Wikipedia, but rather to express POV's of users with in the community should be hosted solely in the user namespace. Please do not change any template redirects or create new template userboxes with out becoming familiar with these policies. I've reverted the redirects you removed. Mkdwtalk 20:13, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The userbox (User:Mkdw/Mozilla Firefox) in question uses a firefox logo that is violating Mozilla Firefox logo policy. see http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/about/logo/download.html . So either the redirection should be changed to any other userbox or User:Mkdw/Mozilla Firefox sould use a correct logo. The other to moving u have done were already in Wikipedia and if redirection made then it I guess is better to be in UBX (as it is solely for Userboxes).--nafSadh নাফী ম. সাধ 04:43, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wrong. The logo on the Firefox usebox is not the Mozilla Firefox. Also, Mozilla Firefox encourages users to post on their websites or businesses that they use Firefox, hence their logo policy. Furthermore, if you use their logo directly (which we aren't) we could still use it here on Wikipedia as long as it was the official one that had its R or TM stamp on it. Lastly, you didn't link the Trademark policy and here's the correct link for your convenience: [1]. I also thought I'd point out that ALL Mozilla products are open source and it states it on the very bottom of every single one of their pages that the content is under the creative commons 3.0 which means anyone can use it. Unsubstantiated statement about the castle rock (article: Computer)

The statement that the castle rock is considered to be the earliest programmable analog computer is unsubstantiated and therefore this paragraph should be removed until a reference is found.
A Wikipedia editor should produce (I quote): no original research and accept verifiability. In Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners the introduction states that Any editor can remove unreferenced material this is all I did and you removed my edit refusing any discussion (Talk:Computer#Unsubstantiated statement about the castle rock)! Furthermore there is no such thing as a programmable analog computer. This paragraph needs to go until a reference is found.
--Ezrdr (talk) 17:24, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please keep the talk on the article, so all talk occurs in one place. I removed it and asked you to introduce a discussion, so that editors can discuss on the fact and resolve dispute. Please check the reply I posted there. A citation is given, and you only disapprove the citation. It seems to me, the notion of castle rock can be kept. Have a discussion, and make poll. As I am not expert on the very matter, while reviewing, I just saw that you removed a long existing thing without any talk and thought that, discussion should be there. I undid your edit because this paragraph better stay in the article until the dispute is resolved. Please wait for some days (until your talk goes to archive) and if some reply comes then act according to discussion, otherwise replace the paragraph with one or two short sentences; or even delete them then. Just try to get some opinion of some experts, that is all.
I welcome everyone's effort and like to be welcomed for my effort also :-| --নাফী ম. সাধ nafSadhtalk | contribs 18:20, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You mention the five pillars of Wikipedia in your introduction. The second pillar says that all articles must strive for verifiable accuracy: unreferenced material may be removed, so please provide references. The sentence: the castle rock is considered to be the earliest programmable analog computer is unreferenced and a programmable analog computer is yet to be found ; this paragraph is in the computer article because it has the computer word in it. Do the right thing, add a verifiable reference, that's all! --Ezrdr (talk) 20:16, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

April 2011

Welcome to Wikipedia! I am glad to see you are interested in discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages are for discussion related to improving the article, not general discussion about the topic. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. Next time, instead of constantly asking for sources as you did here and here why don't you use the google search engine to find refs yourself? Thank you. Pass a Method talk 07:58, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

in Talk:Alawi I asked "are Alawis syncretic?" not as a general discussion but as a question that, if mentioning Alawis as syncretic in article lead is valid as there was no citation. Now I see a ref is been added. It seems OK now.
I would have expected a reply in relevant talk instead of here though. :P You confused my review request as forum discussion. So
In here I really disagree that the hadith is authentic and I even not asked for source there. I found that the description source, (i.e. the order of who descried the hadith) is not a very strong one and this hadith may be considered as a weak or non-auhtentic hadith to many Islamic scholars. So, my suggestion is to remove this disputable hadith. Only finding a hadith do not make it authentic, there are method of classifying hadith in regard to authenticity.
In case of Alawi my first try to find a good source has failed. It is not others duty to find citations but the editors who introduces some information which requires citations.
According to Wikipedia:Five pillars "All articles must strive for verifiable accuracy: unreferenced material may be removed, so please provide references. Editors' personal experiences, interpretations, or opinions do not belong here." Next time instead of constantly adding information without citing sources, I think it is better if you, please try to add sources; and as you search engines you already have the sources.
It is better not to advise (or advertise) any specific search engine. --08:28, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your feedback. I've been through WP:NPP before and try to act according to it. I also try to follow WP:CSD while tagging for speedy deletion. Sometimes pages seem to be having multiple issue or are just made for fun/test/self-promotion; in such cases CSD criteria needs to be compromised for the best one. Sometimes I go with AfD when I'm confused if it should be CSD or not.

Apostles, Messengers and Rasul

Rasul and Apostle are equivalent to each other. We must remember that Apostle is another word for Messenger or Message-Bearer.

Now, this, as I am sure you are aware, is a matter of great contention in the Muslim faith, with dozens of alternative interpretations attached to the differentiation between Apostle and Prophet. But, I, after having made a careful Qur'anic study, have realized that a Messenger, as so far as I can interpret, refers to a Prophet specifically sent to a specific land. The general interpretation that a Messenger is a Prophet with a scripture is rendered irrelevant when we study the Qur'an, which names Ishmael, Jonah and Elijah as Messengers but no scripture is mentioned for either of them. Ok, here are some of the people the Qur'an explicitly names as messengers:

So this is my interpretation of the phrases prophet and apostle. But, we must remember that the Christians use the term Apostle to refer to some of Jesus's disciples, as when they say Apostle Peter or Apostle James or Apostle Matthew. In Islam, Apostle is NEVER used for a disciple of prophet, be they any of Jesus's disciple or Muhammad's disciples such as Abu Bakr and Ali. So, I agree with you that Rasul is clearer to use on the page of Abraham but the reason I put Apostle is because more people will understand it; perhaps you can give your opinions? --Imadjafar (talk) 13:48, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So far I understood from my reading (I rely on translation and my limited knowledge of Arabic) on Qur'an, Prophets mentioned there are all from around Arabian peninsula (where human of far past concentrated). Each Nabi or Rasul has a specific people. People may be a small clan or whole mankind. e.g. Muhammad was prophet and rasul for all human. The Arabic word Nabi is always translated as prophet. But, messenger and apostle are used interchangeably for rasul & mursalin. The problem is, while prophet means the same as nabi, apostle and messenger do not mean the same as they are intended to. That's why, I am bit confused, so I'll prefer to translate rasul as rasul.
About apostle, it is more confusing than messenger.
In Qur'an it is stated that, there was a holy scripture revealed to Ibrahim (Abraham). But, in related ayahs there is no direct use of the word rasul.
Shakir uses Apostle, while Pickthall, Yusuf Ali, Sarwar & some others used Messenger. Some capitalize Messenger or some use lower case.
If to chose between Apostle & Messenger, I'll prefer Messenger. Rasul (special case of r-s-l) means someone who bears message. While most dictionaries define apostle as one of the 12 disciples of Jesus - which definitely don't fit for rasul. 15:16, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Yes, as the general interpretation of Apostle is the Twelve Disciples of Jesus, I suggest we translate it as a Messenger; it is more clear than Rasul, which many may not understand? Do you agree?--Imadjafar (talk) 15:36, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you see the history on the article, I introduced it after one editor removed the word messenger. You can put a note in the related talk page and change. I'll be cool with that. » nafSadh did say 15:42, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed your tag from context to inc. There was enough context to establish that it was an airline with a reasonable fleet - but how notable it is is another matter. I have declined your CSD nominations on Better by design. There is reasonable claims of notability and being discussed in multiple reliable sources. The article also is not explicitly promotional in attempting to sell a government program. An analog would be the Energy Star program. If you still think it is important to delete this article please file an AfD request. Hasteur (talk) 18:12, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I CSD'd it not because of its mare notability issue but induced by its advertise-like prose. Often we have to re-do articles from scratch, even by deleting them for its improper initiation. I'm not going for a AfD right away as I see there are some concerned editors all along. If this article fails to turn into a credible one it may go into AfD by me or someone else. Till then, let it breath for good. — 19:39, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the Chennai event in March, the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, or any other of our events.

Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at mediawiki.org. Sumanah (talk) 14:48, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

speedy

I have removed your A7 speedy tag on several articles.

The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance. Asserting someone is a professor in a university or the author of a book, other than a self-published book, is a plausible indication of importance. Some of the articles you marked are , in fact, actually notable, a much higher standard--see WP:PROF, and WP:AUTHOR.

Be careful with articles on people that have corresponding articles in their national language Wikipedias--sometimes the articles may indeed not be justified, or may meet their standards but not ours, but usually they are valid, and for most of the European language encyclopedias, our notability standards are broader.

Speedy A7 has nothing to do with notability, and the guideline deliberately avoids using the term. Any good faith indication of importance is sufficient. DGG ( talk ) 20:16, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edits of Prophets of Islam

I would like to encourage both you and Shaad lko to stop reverting each others edits and consult policy before proceeding with edits to Prophets of Islam. Both you and Shaad lko have been around long enough to know edit warring is against Wikipedia policy.

Now, as for the inclusion of the term "paraclete", it does not seem appropriate in light of Wikipedia's neutrality guidelines to include that right next to His name without qualification or context. On the other hand, I do see it as entirely appropriate to include cited sources including the notable position of belief that Muhammad is the paraclete. I have similar opinion and have considered all of those that you mentioned here, but could not avoid being on war on the ground: "the inclusion of the term "paraclete", it does not seem appropriate in light of Wikipedia's neutrality guidelines to include that right next to His name without qualification or context". Try reading: what I posted on talk. --06:05, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Let us discuss the issue of where to link the Prophets' names in the Prophets in Islam article. I have opened a new section here.
