The gotra names of the Jat people are generally unique in South Asia, but some do overlap with the Sainis, Rajputs, Kamboj, Ahirs, and Gujars.[1] Following is a partial list of Jat clans, which has been compiled from various sources, including publications by Jat historians such as Ompal Singh Tugania,[2] Bhaleram Beniwal,[3][4] Mahendra Singh Arya and collaborators,[5] Thakur Deshraj,[6] Dilip Singh Ahlawat,[7] and Ram Swarup Joon.[8] The list includes more than 2700 Jat gotras. Thakur Deshraj, Ram Swarup Joon and Dilip Singh Ahlawat have described histories of some of the Jat gotras.
