The University of South Wales is the preferred name, subject to approval by the Privy Council, of a new University in South Wales, that will be formed by a merger between the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport.
The preferred name was announced by the Universities on 17 December 2012.[2][3][4]
The Vice-Chancellor Designate of the University is Professor Julie Lydon, who currently is Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Glamorgan Group,which includes the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Merthyr Tydfil College, and the University.[5]
The designate Chair of Governors will be Andrew Wilkinson, who currently holds this position at the University of Wales, Newport.
In March 2013 it was announced that University of Wales, Newport would be dissolved on 11 April 2013 and merged with University of Glamorgan to form the new University of South Wales.[6]
