- HighnessAtharva; please don't be discouraged so easily. A lot of users have their first few articles deleted; my own first article was deleted, quite properly so. Instead, I would suggest you try and find articles that definitely meet the notability guidelines, such as here, here, or here. You could also always work on improving existing articles on the topics that you are interested in, such as the TV series you mentioned. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 05:36, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
New Article to be Deleted!
I just created an article Zodiac Braveheart, a charachter from the Darkblade Chronicles Series.Hello and Welcome, I know that this articles is of an unnoticeable charachter from an unpublished book, but the news says that it will be published soon, I can send you an extract of this book, please don't try to delete this article for I need to create about thirty to thirty five articles about the Darkblade Chronicles series, about its characters and places and the plot and the book series, I will try to explain it, please ask more questions here, if you want! I will surely add the links and references and the citations and wiki-links, i'm a beginner so I just need some time, I am really a fan of this book series, please don't delete this as this book, when in market will be a very good project. Better done before than later! Thanks!04:02, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, HighnessAtharva. I think you will find that it is too soon to write about these characters. Remember that Wikipedia only contains articles which are already well covered by independent, reliable sources. Characters in an unpublished book will not generally meet that standard, at least not yet, and perhaps not ever. There is no urgency to get this into Wikipedia; it can wait until the references are there to support its notability. I appreciate how keen you are, but that does not make the topic notable. As an editor, I can't write an article about topic just because I feel strongly about them; first I have to show that it is notable by providing the references. I suggest you read carefully the comments at Talk:Zodiac Braveheart about writing articles on fiction; Animalparty gave excellent advice in his comments. I would hate to see you spend your time and energy writing an article which may not meet the notability requirements, and so would end up being deleted. We are all here to help you, within the policies of Wikipedia; perhaps it would be a good idea to use the Article creation wizard. You have so much to offer that we would all benefit by channelling it where it will build articles that last.--Gronk Oz (talk) 05:03, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
New user needs guidance
Mr.RcD10, a new user, has been editing Ingress (video game), a page which I have put and continue to put a lot of work into. He edits in good faith but is quite ignorant of Wikipedia formatting, and probably WP almost everything else. He has no user page, and I created his talk page to discuss some of his edits. His first contribution was made 19:16, 25 December 2015, just two days ago.
He needs a welcome and some guidance, which I'm not prepared to provide, though I have greeted him and given a couple of basic pointers. I hope some experienced editor can give him some more specific mentoring.
Please {{Ping}} me to discuss. --Thnidu (talk) 02:26, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
I reviewed Draft:Afnan' Rauf and declined it. I said that it was an unsourced biography of a living person, and read like a personal reflection rather than a neutral article, and, because it is an autobiography, its submission is discouraged due to conflict of interest. I then had an inquiry post to my talk page by User: Afnanrauf. Can some other experienced editor please either explain to the author why the submission of unsourced autobiographies written as personal reflections is not consistent with Wikipedia, or agree to work with the author to create a reasonable biography (if indeed the artist is notable), or explain to me why I was too harsh or cynical about autobiographies or why I should have accepted the draft? Thank you. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:51, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
First Addition/Edit ... Are Minor Edits On The Order Of Others Previous Entries Acceptable?
Hi, I added information to an article recently and while reading it found a few of the sentences out of their cited dates order and confusing. Can I do a minor edit/change the order of those sentences(not the text itself)for continuity? Ref.article "Robert Goulet". Thanks, Lee S. Leesha1958 (talk) 01:13, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Leesha1958, if you're talking about the accessdates on the refs not being in chronological order, I don't think so. The accessdate doesn't matter at all and has almost nothing to do with the reference or the contents of the article. It's merely the day somebody went on a site or read a book and rewrote the info therein for Wikipedia. We don't care what day the info was accessed; we just care it was accessed.
- On the other hand, if you're talking about content in the article being out of chronological order, then go ahead and put it in the correct order. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 01:38, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
Another question about sourcing
What about articles from chinafile.com, it's an online information source written by the Asia society. ThanksNotgoingtotellyou (talk) 18:50, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, Notgoingtotellyou. On a quick look, I would say it is probably reliable. But WP:RSN is the best place to ask this kind of question. Note that reliability is not a straight yes-no: if may depend on what information you are wanting to take from a source and how you want to use it. --ColinFine (talk) 21:21, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Who do I contact to ask why media was deleted.
It was recently brought to my attention that the photograph of my Great great grandfather (John Richardson Wigham), as displayed on his Wikipedia page, wasn't actually of him. I located the original source of the image, a website called picturehistory.com, to inform them of this error. picturehistory.com never returned my emails. I then proceeded to remove this incorrect image and upload an image of him that I know to be correct. However, the image I uploaded has been deleted and cannot be uploaded again. Why?AnnaLehane (talk) 14:20, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi AnnaLehane the file you added File:John R. Wigham.jpg was added over on WikiMedia Commons which is a sister project but not the same as English Wikipedia. You had notifications of the issue on your talk page over there commons:User talk:AnnaLehane. All images at the Commons must bear a suitably free copyright license or be copyright free, and the relevant information added to show the valid source. If you read those notifications they will give you more information. I believe by default you do not get email notifications on commons so you may wish to enable here. Also while I'm looking at this please be careful when editing - this edit removed the complete infobox when I assume you meant to just remove the image. Regards KylieTastic (talk) 15:09, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi AnnaLehane to add more the original file File:John_Richardson_Wigham.jpg was actual linked to a source of this which is now a different image on the "United States Lighthouse Society" website - the other site may have copied for them or commons. They have this page now for him - is this the correct image? Note you can not just upload this either as it is on a copyrighted page. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 15:15, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons uses [Creative Commons] licenses. If you took the picture or had permission, it should stay uploaded. If you still have the same problem, tell me. Hope this helps SamBrown98121 (talk) 15:06, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- (e/c) Hi AnnaLehane. The picture you uploaded to the sister site, Wikimedia Commons, was deleted based on the reasons stated in the notice about it posted to your user talk page there: Commons:User talk:AnnaLehane#File source is not properly indicated: File:John R. Wigham.jpg. Though I can't actually see what information you did provide and/or what license you gave, it was considered deficient. The image remained for nine days after you were given the notice on December 6th for you to take care of the issue, and then was deleted on December 15th, which you can see here. As far as I can tell, your account at the Commons is not blocked or disabled from uploading, so I'm not sure what you mean when you say the image "cannot be uploaded again". If you do re-upload, you need to carefully supply information on the manner you own the copyright to the image and what free license you're giving it if you own it. The notice at the linked talk page has some information about this and links to explanatory pages. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 15:17, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Here are a few things to think about, AnnaLehane. He died in 1906. If the photo was published in a book, newspaper or magazine during his life or around the time of his death, then copyright has expired, and it should be perfectly OK for Commons. If it was never published and just kept framed or in a family album, and you inherited the original photo yourself, then you own the copyright which starts when it is first published and can freely license it on Wikimedia Commons. If ownership is unclear, then perhaps it can be uploaded here on English Wikipedia as an acceptable non-free image under WP:NFCI #10, for use only in that one article. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 21:38, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Creating The last Goodbye, the hobbit ending song!
Hello, again. I need to create an article about the song 'The Last Goodbye' by Billy Boyd from the Hobbit: A Battle of Five Armies, this is a very good song, so please visit the page and try to edit it. Also can anyone tell me how to upload an audio of the song on the page, I really want to add this song on wikipedia page. Thnx! Please edit this article and guide me!HighnessAtharva (talk) 13:27, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, HighnessAtharva. Your enthusiasm for creating articles is great, but please please please read Your first article and WP:42. Articles in Wikipedia do not exist just because you or I think the subject is great, but also because several people unconnected with the subject have already written about the subject and had their writing published - that is what we mean by "notable". The fact that you have created The Last Goodbye (Hobbit Song) without any references suggests that you have not yet researched to find references, and therefore you do not know whether it is notable. For creating an article, you should always start by finding independent reliable published sources for it, so that if you cannot find any, you will know there is no point in spending any time on the article. (Note - I have not looked for sources either, so it is possible that the song is notable; but I doubt it).
- Another thing to remember is that Wikipedia is not interested in what you (or I) think about the song, or any other subject: it is only interested in what people unconnected with it have published about it. For that reason, a Wikipedia article should never describe anything as "emotional" or "melodious" (for example) unless is it directly quoting a published independent source.
- As for your last question: it is very rarely appropriate to upload a song for Wikipedia, because it is almost certainly not possible to find a version that is free of copyright. It is also not appropriate: the song itself is not usually encyclopaedic.
- Finally, I would strongly advise you to use the Article Wizard for any future articles you create, and so create them in draft space where they can be reviewed before being moved to main space. --ColinFine (talk) 16:05, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Witch Redirects #Witchcraft?????????????????/
The Article Witch redirects # Witchcraft, I mean, these are two similar yet different characters. So i think a new article should be made on WITCHES, someone please make an article or tell me! I will make an initiative. But is there any need to make a new article? And how will i get other users to edit if I make an article!!! Please guide HighnessAtharva (talk) 13:20, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
You could start making a article in your sandbox, and when you think it is good enough send it in for Articles for Creation. SamBrown98121 (talk) 15:11, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Please note that witchcraft is not a character but a practice. A witch is someone who practices witchcraft. Both topics are covered to some extent in Witchcraft. Before creating a new article on this topic make sure it addresses something that's not already mentioned in "Witchcraft". -- Chamith (talk) 18:20, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Does WIkipedia allow Quotes article?
I want to create an article on he hobbit quotes, can this article be eligible to be published on Wikipedia? Please guide me. HighnessAtharva (talk) 12:26, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, HighnessAtharva, and welcome to the Teahouse. Wikipedia articles can certainly contain quotes (see Wikipedia:Quotations on this), but if I understand you correctly, you want to create a list of quotes from The Hobbit. That wouldn't be suitable for Wikipedia, but you could try Wikiquote instead. Cordless Larry (talk) 12:29, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Checking a Good Article
I noticed that 2015 MFF Charity Cup was just created, and it was created with the {{good article}} template that marks it as a "Good article". I will remove that, but it raises the question: is there a way to conform whether an article really is a GA?Gronk Oz (talk) 09:06, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Greetings, Gronk Oz. All articles listed as good articles should have a link on the talk page to a good article review; for instance, see this talk page. Even if the bot made some errors in transclusion, there should definitely be a review page, which should have the title "Talk:Article title/GA1" or a different number if there has been more than one review. If the review page cannot be found, there is definitely something wrong, even if it's only a clerical error, and so posting a question at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations would be the right thing to do. Hope that helps. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 10:50, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Creating The Flash (2014 TV series) solo episode articles!
Hello! I am a great fan of The Flash (2014 TV series) and I would like to, everyday, make articles on even single episodes, I will certainly write the plot, should I do it? I am an amateur and you can visit the pages I have created, please suggest me should I create articles on each The Flash episode? You can visit pages that I have created at Spooks Nightmare, The Spook's Destiny, please reply!HighnessAtharva (talk) 08:52, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- HighnessAtharva, Greetings! Thanks for your enthusiasm for creating new articles. All new articles on Wikipedia need to meet our guidelines for notability; the relevant guidelines for Television episodes can be found at Wikipedia:Television episodes. As that page says, individual episodes are rarely notable, because it is rare for a single episode to get significant coverage in reliable, secondary sources. If you can find such coverage for an individual episode, by all means go ahead and create a page; but I suggest holding off on mass-creating a page for every episode. If you are really looking to create new articles, here are some places you could look; Wikipedia:Most-wanted articles, Wikipedia:Requested articles, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Women/Women in Red. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 10:59, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for the suggestion, I will try to make the episode summary brief instead of making another article, I like the series but i thought that if it would be noticeable HighnessAtharva (talk) 12:14, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Ref. The Wardstone Chronicles. No articles created!!
Ref. The Wardstone Chronicles. The articles about the last six books have not been created and redirect to the Wardstone Chronicles again. I am a beginner but somehow I have made an article about the seventh book, visit Spooks Nightmare, I cannot even remove the redirect tag of the next books from The Wardstone Chronicles and I seriously want to create articles about those book instead of redirecting them to the same page gain so please support and help me, about six to seven books are to be made an article!!!HighnessAtharva (talk) 04:22, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, HighnessAtharva. If you go to the first "missing link" (so to speak), i.e. Spook's: I Am Grimalkin, it will redirect to Wardstone Chronicles as you say. Then just under the title of that page will be a notification "(Redirected from Spook's: I Am Grimalkin)" and if you click on that link it will take you to the redirect page. By editing this page, replacing the #REDIRECT line, you can create the article as usual.--Gronk Oz (talk) 05:45, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello again, HighnessAtharva. I notice that you have replaced the redirection codes on those articles with the text "Please edit guys, help Wikipedia grow, Joseph Delaney fans!!" Please don't do that, because it makes the article meaningless for a reader. With the redirection, at least the reader got something useful; this way they get nothing. I have reverted those changes, so the redirections are back. The time to replace the redirection is when you have something meaningful to replace it with.--Gronk Oz (talk) 06:27, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Also, a word of caution - if you look at their histories, some of these books had articles before, which were removed due to lack of references in reliable sources. So if you want to avoid a similar fate, I suggest starting by gathering your sources. Collect newspaper and magazine articles, perhaps on the relevant Talk page, until there is enough to form the basis of a decent article.--Gronk Oz (talk) 06:42, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

I reviewed Draft:Park Cho-rong, and neither accepted nor declined it, but commented that Park Cho-rong already exists as a redirect to Apink, the girl group of which she is the leader. I was then asked by User:AlofVar what to do next. In order to accept the draft, what needs to be done? Should an administrator be asked to move the draft over the redirect? I am aware that the draft can be copied and pasted over the redirect, but is that permitted? Robert McClenon (talk) 00:55, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Robert McClenon - and first, thanks for all your efforts at AfC. Now, about your question. I usually leave a comment on the draft that there is a redirect which exists which prevents the draft from being moved to mainspace, and that I intend to move it to the mainspace as soon as the redirect is deleted. I then go to the redirect and request a CSD, using the housekeeping category (I forget which h# it is, but if you look, you'll find it). Then it asks you for a reason, and I simply say "to make room for a move from AfC". I then watchlist the redirect, and when I see that it's been deleted, I go back and accept the draft. Hope that makes sense. Onel5969 TT me 02:02, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

File is copyrighted and has been released under a license which is incompatible with Facebook's licensing terms
My quiestion is this ( and incidentally the editor isn't working properly on my ubutu/firexfox system.
I noticed that on this picture https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsh_fritillary#/media/File:Euphydryas_aurinia_MHNT_CUT_2013_3_26_Clermont_le_Fort_Dorsal.jpg is forbidden to be placed on facebook because of licencing terms. i would like to know what it is about Facebook's terms that is the problem and that interferes with wikipedia.
My editor problem consists of the box overlapping the text on the lefthand side of the wikipedia page. Making it difficult to see what I am typing. Som please excuse any typos.Neilj (talk) 22:53, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Neilj. The file question is explained at m:Legal/CC-BY-SA on Facebook. Basically if you put an image of your own on Commons you can also put it on Facebook. But if you upload someone else's image from Commons to Facebook, that relicenses the image under the Facebook license. You can only use a Commons image elsewhere under the SS-BY-SA license. You cannot relicense a Commons image under any other license. Besides, Facebook's terms require: "You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook..." citation section heading.
Is there a standard for the section name containing citations. In most articles, it seems to be References. But sometimes, reflist is put in a Notes section. Recently, I renamed Notes to References in Martyrium (architecture) but it was undone. Mb66w (talk) 17:17, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Welcome to the Teahouse, Mb66w. We allow variations in citation methods, and WP:CITEVAR advises, "Editors should not attempt to change an article's established citation style merely on the grounds of personal preference, to make it match other articles, or without first seeking consensus for the change." Although I also prefer "References" to "Notes" in such cases, both are allowed so I suggest working on something else. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 17:27, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Mb66w: There was already a "References" heading when you added a second in [1]. There should never be two. If there are separate sections for inline references/notes and for general references, the former is usually called "Notes" and the latter "References". See also Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Layout#Notes and references. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:36, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, Mb66w. Looks like the problem at Martyrium (architecture) is that two different referencing styles are mixed. Within an article, the referencing style should be consistent to avid confusion. Solution one is to put all of the references in a References or Sources section and then use short citations throughout the article. An easier solution, since there are only four sources cited, is to name the Syndicus book using a full citation the first time that it appears, then <ref name=citation-name />. Use {{rp}} to specify pages if you prefer but since all are within the same contiguous page range, that isn't essential. In either case, add OCLC: 1414394 and (Translated from the German by J.R. Foster) to complete the source's information. Take care, DocTree (ʞlɐʇ·ʇuoɔ) WER 01:11, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Formatting error
Hi. I recently created several stub articles about populated places in Arizona. I simply used the template of other pages I had created previously. However, on these most recent ones, such as Alma Gardens, Arizona, left an arbitrary "Insert non-formatted text here" message after the reference section. I can't figure out what the hell I did incorrectly. Any ideas? Onel5969 TT me 16:15, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

My user profile has been nominated for speedy deletion
How can a user page and talk page be nominated for speedy deletion? Isn't it up to each user to determine what is on their page? As long is there isn't anything inappropriate on the page I don't see how wikipedia can justifably erase my user page. I'm a newbie and am not sure how things work yet and I've made a few mistakes however I don't think this warrants deletion. Please explain your reasoning behind this.Notgoingtotellyou (talk) 12:44, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, Notgoingtotellyou. I may be missing something, but I can't see any evidence that either your user page or your talk page has ever been nominated for speedy deletion. But the way, Wikipedia does not contain any "user profiles": that's not what we do here. --ColinFine (talk) 13:03, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Notgoingtotellyou, welcome to the Teahouse. I don't see signs that User:Notgoingtotellyou or User talk:Notgoingtotellyou have been nominated for deletion. Does the username mean that you created a new account and aren't going to tell which pages it's really about? If so then I can only refer to the general guideline Wikipedia:User pages. It mentions several things users may not have on their user pages. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:04, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
Oh sorry, I forgot to mention that it is a commons user profile :-( Sorry about the mistake but could you help with that since their helpers usually take much longer to respond to inquiriesNotgoingtotellyou (talk) 13:09, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Notgoingtotellyou: This is a place to learn about editing Wikipedia. Each wiki has its own policies. commons:User:Notgoingtotellyou was not deleted by Wikipedia but by Commons which is a separate wiki. The stated reason is "Out of Project scope", linking to a Commons policy. Deleted Commons pages can only be seen by Commons administrators so I cannot comment on the former contents. commons:User talk:Notgoingtotellyou has not been nominated for deletion but contains messages about files nominated for deletion. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:38, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Notgoingtotellyou: Judging from your comment here I would guess that your Commons user page was deleted because it contained links to copyright violations on your Google drive account. English Wikipedia does not allow links to copyright violations, and Commons probably has a similar policy. —teb728 t c 19:34, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not a lyrics website, and therefore we refrain from posting these on song articles. Please read WP:NOTLYRICS.
Kindest regards and happy editing!
Chesnaught555 (talk) 10:09, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Not only is Wikipedia not a lyrics web site, but the legality of lyrics web sites is questionable. Song lyrics are almost always copyrighted, and their addition of Wikipedia is copyright violation. While some singer-songwriters don't object to the piracy of their lyrics, because it publicizes their songs, Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously (and isn't used commercially). Will additional short citations on the article be approved after it has been declined?Ssymes (talk) 03:46, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your response. My first draft of the article was declined due to insufficient resources on the subject. I have added more citations and wonder it this is now passable? -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Shakira_Villa_SymesSsymes (talk) 03:46, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Greetings, Ssymes, and thanks for stopping by the teahouse. You do seem to have made an effort to add sources to the draft, and that is good. Our notability guideline for people, however, requires substantive coverage in reliable, secondary sources, to show notability, and so brief mentions, such as this, are less useful. This does not mean that you cannot use yahoo news as a source; but that yahoo news article does not contribute to establishing notability. In this case, your draft says that the subject is the "only female (Filipina) professional lighting designer currently in the Philippine live events industry." Now this is a credible claim towards significance, if it has been covered by reliable secondary sources; her facebook page is unfortunately not useful for this. What you need to do is dig a little further; if she truly is notable, then there must be newspaper articles or secondary web sources that focus on the subject, rather than mentioning her in passing; and if such sources are added, the draft will be much further towards acceptance. Vanamonde93 (talk) 06:37, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you Vanamonde93. Searching for other sources on her now. Another question if I may: I am former student of the subject and signed in to Wikipedia as Ssymes with S for a student. I am wondering now if it would be in conflict with with the draft. Ssymes (talk) 13:37, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
can I create a page for individual playmates?
Can I create pages for individual playmates?Mr. Ice Buckett (talk) 21:06, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Mr. Ice Buckett. What do you mean by a playmate? The subject of a Wikipedia article must have been written about, at length, in reliable published sources (such as major newspapers or books from reputable publishers). See WP:42 and Your first article. --ColinFine (talk) 00:42, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Do you mean your own playmates, or you mean Playboy Playmates? The latter are, by virtue of publication in a magazine of large circulation, almost always notable. If you mean that you want to do your own playmating service to compete with the soft-core porn magazines, you will first have to have your own magazine with a real circulation. If you mean centerfold models, then the only real issue is that the centerfolds are themselves copyrighted and cannot be published in Wikipedia, but information on the models is almost certainly worth of articles. Hi guys! Where can I learn Wiki programming?
Hi guys! Where can I learn Wiki programming? I mean all key words like link and so on. Minacriss1 (talk) 19:49, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
- Welcome to the Teahouse Minacriss1! If you're looking for information about how to use wiki markup (the source code), Help:Wiki markup may be of interest. If you just want a more basic overview of Wikipedia, you may want to see Wikipedia:Tutorial (or Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure, if you're more into games). If you wanted to learn the terminology used on Wikipedia, Wikipedia:Glossary may be helpful.
- I also noticed that an article you created, F.C.E. 365 Firmware Manager, appears to have been based off of this article from the iPhone Wiki. It seems like the iPhone Wiki uses MediaWiki, the same software that Wikipedia runs on; so if you're familiar with editing that site, you should be fine here as the wiki markup should pretty much work the same way.
- Hope this helps, and I'm sorry if I've interpreted your question incorrectly. CabbagePotato (talk) 20:38, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
- Is there a difference between wiki markup and wiki text? --Binaryhazard (talk) 21:35, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Binaryhazard. According to Help:Wiki markup, those two terms should be referring to the same thing, so I suppose the answer is no. CabbagePotato (talk) 21:44, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- I would appreciate any thoughts on whether the article they are editing F.C.E. 365 Firmware Manager's references are acceptable namely "theiphonewiki.com" [2] A "forum" [3] and a "Twitter post" [4] the user is edit warring to include them. Theroadislong (talk) 22:05, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Theroadislong. IMO those are all WP:USERGENERATED items and are WP:NOT acceptable as references. You can ask for more input at the Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard MarnetteD|Talk 22:18, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Can someone help me get my article approved?
Hi I tried to get create an article about a radio presenter who dose a lot of work on the LGBT Scene to help with HIV Charities etc but I don't really understand the creation process. Can someone help me please? RichardPaulReynolds (talk) 16:54, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
- Welcome to the Teahouse, RichardPaulReynolds. The first issue you need to deal with is whether or not Mark Scott is notable, as Wikipedia defines that term. You need to show that he has received significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. His own social media presence does not count, and neither does anything produced by Gaydio, since none of that is independent coverage. I did a Google News search for "mark scott gaydio", and all I came up with was this item in the Grimsby Telegraph, which is just a photo of him on stage. So, your challenge is to find the sources that show he is notable. Please read Your first article for more information. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 18:47, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
hello,
please could you let me know If there is an existing list of articles that's been suggested for improvement, or a list of possible article that could be created by editors? Happy Holidays & best regards. XXample ~ Let's Chat 15:29, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
- One place to start, you may consider helping out with the weekly collaboration at Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement. --NickPenguin(contribs) 17:21, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
- Another place is to look through the WP:WikiProject Directory and find a project that interests you. Most will have a list of articles for improvement. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 18:12, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
Advice on reversion
I am having exactly the same problem - the ask question link is dead. Here is my question, I would be very grateful for an answer: Dear Teahouse, I was looking through an an article with some unsourced information, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Henry_Somerset so I added 'citation needed'. An editor immediately undid this and it appears that this editor put this information in place and wrote most of the article. How can I ask this editor to check her sources as I cannot find this information in the source listed? I do not want to get into an 'Undo Revision' argument - it is only a small point to be honest, but these Wikipedia articles do belong to everyone. Thanks, (Paul H Andrews II (talk) 00:39, 24 December 2015 (UTC)) [Moved to question page by : Noyster (talk), 16:29, 24 December 2015 (UTC)]
- Hello Paul H Andrews II and I appreciate your concern to not start an "edit war". My suggestion is to start a section on the article talk page to explain the concern. Then any editor with an interest in the article may respond, but to ensure that your post comes to the attention of the editor who reverted you, you may wish to include a notification or "ping" in your post, in just the way I did at the start of this reply. Other ways people may run a discussion are via edit summaries or via posts direct to the other editor's user talk page, but the article talk page is there for the purpose of discussing article content and that is what we recommend: Noyster (talk), 16:29, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
- Greetings, Paul H Andrews II. To the excellent advice given by Noyster, I would just add the following. If you engage the other editor in a conversation, and they say that the content is in the source, and you continue to feel that it is not, there are places you can go to get more input. The reliable sources noticeboard, dispute resolution noticeboard, and third opinion noticeboard are all excellent options. Once again, thanks for not blindly reverting. Re Alex Kersey-Brown's Birth date and birthdate is 18th Nov 1940 registered 1941 so could not have been born a year later. This wrong date has upset close members of his family. His death date is 4.0 am 24th November 2015.
Please can you correct these mistakes. I have Mac Kersey-Brown with the additional Alexander as his christening name later in 1941. He could not have been born in 1942 if registered in 1941. I can supply his birth certificate. Cynthia14 Cynthia14 (talk) 08:39, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
- How could he have been 73 when he died (as widely reported) if he was born in 1940? Wikipedia just reports what is published elsewhere. There is some evidence that the press have got the wrong age. Can you point us to a reliable published source that reports the true date of birth? Also, the date of death is reported as Monday, November 23rd by Wales Rugby League. Was this report premature? Verifying DynamoDegsy's research into official fact finding searches.
Can the statements made by DynamoDegsy in blue be accepted as they are correct. He has looked up all the facts from official sources about Alex Kersey-Brown, who died of cancer on the morning of 24th November 2015. He was born 18th November 1940 during an air raid in Bristol, and the registration took place early in the year 1941 /Qtr 1st/ Vol 6A/ pAGE 236/ so could not have possible have been born in 1942. I made a mistake in the spelling of Yeovil which is where Alex Kersey-Brown was cremated but his date of birth shown there was incorrect. His brother Edward Kersey-Brown with daughter Kristina (also mentioned by DynamoDegsy,) was present and said to me that the date of birth was wrong and was 1940, which I knew already. I met Alex the day before his 23rd birthday, and spoke to him, on the day before when he was still 22 years old 17th November 1962, and then the next day the 18th November 1962 he told me he was 23 years old. His father Edward Sydney Kersey-Brown, was born on the 19th November 1911. That is why it is so clear in my mind. Another matter was Alex's weight when he worked for Huddersfield Rugby League Football Club: he was 15 stone, which might be unusual but it is true. He told me he was an Army Boxing Champion at that weight and when fully fit was solid muscle at 6 foot 3 inches. When I watched my first rugby match and the only person watching when Alex played for London Scottish in the 2nd Team I watched him get try after try. Why would the Captain not let Alex join the First team? He left and joined the London Welsh Rugby Football Club at Old Deer Park, next to Kew Gardens. This last year 2015, an amazing Melanesian rugby player called Jonah, who was 18 stone, scored an amazing try, during an important match, so these things happen. I have printed out DynamoDegsy's words so I could follow them while I typed this out.13:27,24 November 2015 (UTC). All he wrote is true. Thank you DynamoDegsy. From Cynthia14Cynthia14 (talk) 23:13, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
- The information in official records (see Talk:Alex Kersey-Brown for anyone who has not been following this) seems definitive, but one wonders what publicity machine released the wrong information to the press. Unfortunately, personal testimony is not considered appropriate as a Wikipedia source (not that we are doubting you, but sometimes people on the internet are not who they claim to be, so we have a policy). It would be good if someone could find an article published in a reliable source that gets it right, then we can tidy up the Wikipedia article. Dbfirs 21:40, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Citation needed template
How do I replace the citation needed template with a source? I tried to delete it and then just rewrite the whole sentence, but the template won't go away. Thanks~~ ^^ Liveorganic1 (talk) 04:01, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. I can't seem to find the problem you are talking about. Can you give an example of an article where this happened? Thanks Happy Squirrel (talk) 04:09, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Liveorganic1: You appear to mostly use VisualEditor. I don't use it but tried it now and couldn't find a way to remove a template with it. If you click "Edit source" instead then you can remove the code for the template. PrimeHunter (talk) 04:31, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you very muchPrimeHunter (talk). And to Happy Squirrel (talk) thanks for looking into it; btw the article I tried to do this on was "sejong the great" achievements section although the problem's solved now. :) Contrary to appearance sometimes edit source seems to be the easier option.. Liveorganic1 (talk) 05:01, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
- Liveorganic1, to expand just a little on the previous answers; for editing things other than bare text, editing source is in generall a safer option. There are a number of things visual editor can do, and a number that it cannot; the full list is at Wikipedia:VisualEditor. I hope that helps. If you're new to the markup text, then visual editor can certainly be helpful. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 06:13, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
