Ronda has trained with Gracie fighters and coaches but only as a guest. She is not a member of the team, not coached or cornered by the team on a regular basis. Please don't list Cesar Gracie in her affiliations, but feel free to add sourced references to training with them in the other sections. Taevan (talk) 06:52, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Olympic career

@Aelogan: Your edits are unnecessarily specific. The issue is, while Rousey is a judoka, this does not mean that she was only the first judoka to accomplish what she had, versus being the first judo player (a wider group of practitioners below black belt). The term athlete addresses an even wider group. Making it specific could be inaccurate. You could say that Neil Armstrong was the first American astronaut to walk on the moon (which is true) but he was also the first American, the first man, and the first human to walk on the moon. Don't use the term American astronaut and leave the reader wondering if explorers of other nationalities were there first. Unfortunately that section is unreferenced so unless you have facts to back up your assertions, please revert yourself. It is not our practice to revert a reversion without a discussion. First to be listed is the original article, then will be the article with proper changes and new facts. "Rousey fought Bethe Correia on August 1, 2015 in Brazil, at UFC 190, winning the bout by knockout 34 seconds into the first round.[86] Rousey dedicated the match to "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, who died the day before, commenting that Piper was one of her inspirations and had endorsed her use of his nickname.[7][87]

Rousey is expected to face Holly Holm on November 15, 2015 at UFC 193.[88]"

Please change the article section above to the revised piece listed below. All references are reputable and the facts add to the career achievements of Ronda Rousey.

The completion of this bout marked Ronda Rousey’s sixth official with the UFC, all of which have been victories. She has spent 477 seconds in the octagon to attain all six and has accumulated $1,080,000 in prize money; this equates to nearly $2,264.15 for every second spent fighting.[1] Her total time of 7 minutes and 57 seconds is less than the average time of a single match in every UFC weight class, the fastest of which is the Heavyweight division with a time of 7 minutes and 59 seconds.[2]

Rousey is expected to face Holly Holm on November 15, 2015 at UFC 193 for her seventh official bout.[88]"

  • Done Sorry it took so long to get to this request. Your references did not actually include anything about Rousey's total fight time so I had to do a little research myself. I found an ESPN stat sheet that had her results on it. Thank you for your contribution. --Stabila711 (talk) 21:13, 4 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to add on to the personal section and discuss Rousey's "Don't be a DNB Campaign." Rousey is a self proclaimed feminist and is using her fame for female self-empowerment. I will go into detail on the responses from the feminist community and how Rousey is helping women all over. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Twils637 (talkcontribs) 00:02, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove from this section this paragraph:

The completion of this bout marked Ronda Rousey’s sixth official with the UFC, all of which have been victories. She has spent 477 seconds in the octagon to attain all six and has accumulated $1,080,000 in prize money; this equates to nearly $2,264.15 for every second spent fighting.[88][89] Her total time of 7 minutes and 57 seconds is less than the average time of a single match in every UFC weight class, the fastest of which is the Heavyweight division with a time of 7 minutes and 59 seconds.[90]

Apart from the first sentence (which you could leave I guess) the rest is based on incorrect calculations from original source data. You will note none of the sources state Ronda spent 477 seconds in the octagon or that she earned $2,264.15 per second of fighting, or that her total fight time is 7 minutes and 57 seconds or that figure is less than average times for other weight classes. The reason is the initial 477 seconds is wrong. 4:49 (Carmouche) + 10:58 (Tate) + 1:06 (McMann) + 0:16 (Davis) + 0:14 (Zingano) + 0:34 (Correia) = 17:57, or 1077 seconds. The error in the original calculations appears to be the failure to add 10 minutes for the Tate fight, which unlike other fights went past round 1. 90.203.156.190 (talk) 17:33, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Done I have updated the figures. The figure for the Tate fight did not include the first two rounds, only the short third round. I have also updated the final sentence. Comparing her total time against an average was silly, I have updated it to compare her average over 6 fights (Which the 10 minutes against Tate pushes to just under 3 minutes) instead. -- ferret (talk) 21:52, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Under the heading "Strikeforce", the following is stated: "The victory was controversial as referee Steve Mazzagatti only stopped the fight because D’Alelio appeared to make a brief sound. According to instructions given to fighters before they compete, this is typically deemed to be a verbal submission."

The official Strikeforce (or UFC) rules do not substantiate that verbal submission includes a "verbal indication of pain" and/or a "brief sound". Therefore, statements regarding verbal submission in this way should be changed or omitted. Ronda Rousey apparently had conveyed that instructions were given prior to competition about verbal pain counting as submission but this was/is NOT substantiated by the official Strikeforce (or UFC) rules. The contributor of this information must provide clear evidence that a verbal "indication" of pain and/or a "brief sound" count as verbal submission. Hearsay from Ronda Rousey is not proof that such a rule exists. The referee is allowed to stop a fight if he/she believes a fighter is in danger, but the referee also must abide by the Strikeforce (or UFC) rules regarding submission. And as stated before, there are no rules specifying that a verbal "indication of pain" or "brief sound" count as submission.

RE: The Ronda Rousey Article, Section Under "Strikeforce"

This Ronda Rousey article contains no official supporting evidence that a verbal tap out includes a "verbal indication of pain" and/or a "brief sound". For references that prove there is no such official rule all one has to do is go to: http://www.ufc.com/discover/sport/rules-and-regulations and scroll down to the section "Types Of Contest Results", then read the part where it is stated that "verbal tap out" is considered to be submission. Notice there is nothing there which describes verbal tapping out as being a "brief sound" or "indication of pain". Also go to this Wiki article link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Submission_(combat_sports). The title of that Wiki article is "Submission (combat sports)". Notice that this article acknowledges that verbal tap out requires verbally informing that he/she is giving up. The word used in that article is "inform" NOT "signal" or "utter". Inform means to give facts or information to, or tell. The words "signal" and "utter"would cover almost anything verbal, including sounds relating to something being painful. Just about everything in MMA is painful during a fight...so verbal indication of pain without the fighter physically tapping out or verbally informing the ref is not officially recognized as tapping out. The referee has a right to stop a fight if he/she feels that one of the fighters is in serious danger (read UFC rules). HOWEVER, there is a difference between doing that and stopping a fight without actually hearing a fighter say that he/she is giving up. Furthermore, I bring your attention to the Leonard vs. Duran fight in which Duran clearly let the referee know he wanted to quit fighting. A bad call by a referee is certainly not unusual in MMA. And it is well known among MMA fans that more than one of Ronda Rousey's MMA fights were controversial. Under the heading "Strikeforce" in the Ronda Rousey article, there are errors that should be corrected. Under the "Strikeforce" heading the following is stated: "Rousey defeated D'Alelio by technical submission due to an armbar early in the first round. The victory was controversial as referee Steve Mazzagatti only stopped the fight because D’Alelio appeared to make a brief sound. According to instructions given to fighters before they compete, this is typically deemed to be a verbal submission. Mazzagatti initially did nothing, but after Rousey looked at him and stated that D’Alelio had submitted, he stopped the fight. D'Alelio admitted after the fight that she let out a verbal indication of pain."

There is more than one problem with these statements. Problem #1 There is absolutely no proof that Mazzagatti stopped the fight due to D'Alelio appearing to make "a brief sound". In fact, Mazzagatti had no comment about why he stopped this fight [1] Problem #2 D'Alelio admitted to making a sound of physical exertion...but she did NOT admit to verbally tapping out or to there being a Strikeforce rule that considered a verbal indication of pain to be a verbal tapout/submission. [2] The contributor of this section relied almost entirely on what Ronda Rousey said in interviews rather than relying on Strikeforce's official rules. In Strikeforce's official rules there are no details about verbal submissions other than the following: "Submission: a fighter clearly taps on his/her opponent or the mat, verbally submits, or in case the fighter goes out because of hypoxia, causing the referee to stop it." [3] Everything Ronda Rousey said about what is deemed to be a verbal submission is just heresay until former officials from Strikeforce come forth and substantiate what she said. Until that happens the contributor who wrote this section is not being honest or fair because he/she is relying totally on what Ronda Rousey said without having any official evidence to back it up. Perhaps a better way to write about this controversy would be to state what Ronda Rousey claimed, then write a short description of what actually happened without distorting facts. Naw for real tho?

"Rousey was born in Riverside, California, the youngest of three daughters of AnnMaria De Mars (née Waddell) and Ron Rousey, after whom Rousey was named."

So Ronda Rousey was named after her dad Ron Rousey? You don't say!

Ranked #1 in the ufc as of desember is missleading

She is the #1 CONTENDER in bantamweight, not ranked 1. This should be cleard out as ufc ranks contenders.

What Wordpress blog? The cite I gave is a Youtube video (from the official Saturday Night Live Youtube channel) of Ronda Rousey hosting an SNL episode and saying her own name when she introduces herself. She actually says her name several times during the clip. I don't see what could be more reliable than that. 173.228.123.101 (talk) 23:40, 27 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

(again) prononciation of Rousey

Could someone look again at the request further up? I don't know the source of the confusion, but it doesn't cite a Wordpress blog or say anything about a Wordpress blog anywhere. It cites an official SNL video upload of Ronda Rousey saying her own name when hosting the show. She says it right at the beginning of the clip, and several additional times during the clip. That seems authoritative to me. Thanks. 173.228.123.101 (talk) 06:05, 30 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
