Editing of Canis Major and minor cobsyellation pages

Hello! I recently tried to add to Canis Major and minor wiki pages but my changes have been reverted. I have mentioned the reference for my edit. Is it not enough?

Thank you! Gauri ga11 (talk) 22:14, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gauri a11! Your edits were probably reverted because you only mentioned the existence of some source out there. You didn't actually link to any source or provide the reader with information regarding how to find it (ISBN for a book? Publishing information for media?). I'd take some time and review Wikipedia's pages on citing sources and what constitutes as reliable sources. These pages will answer your questions and help you. Please let me know if you have any questions after reviewing those pages, and I'll be happy to answer them. Good luck! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:25, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Martin2707! I'm not quite sure that I understand what you're looking to edit, but if I understand correctly, you're looking to edit the Ted Lasso (TV series) article, and upload some images to Wikipedia. That article is not protected; you should have no issues with editing it. You won't be able to upload any images to Wikipedia until your account becomes confirmed or auto-confirmed, which requires your account to be 4 days old and have made at least 10 edits. After these conditions are met, you'll be able to upload images. Just make sure that you review and understand Wikipedia's copyright policy and image use policy before you upload any images. Violating these policies can be serious, and lead to being blocked from editing should you repeatedly violate them. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:32, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination for deletion of Template:Interface administrators access table

Template:Interface administrators access table has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. Izno (talk) 14:46, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Izno - Thanks for the heads up. I'm fine with the deletion. Like you said, the template page can easily be re-created and the code moved back to it should this ever be needed in the future. It's high doubtful that it will be. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:21, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted page:Wikipedia:Pro Bro

Hey Oshwah the page Pro Bro was deleted on June 30. Because i heard an block user named Romello Brooks who is blocked from multiple accounts being created that created that page. But i don't think the page should have been deleted. the page should sumbitted as an article or moved as an article. But once it become an article it go be deleted anyway because it was supposed to be an draft first. But can this page please become an article. Please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brooks330 (talkcontribs) 22:38, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oshwah award

Oshwah award
I hereby grant you the "Oshwah award" for having really cool hair.
(and also being one of the nicest people on this wiki - I've spent the past few days browsing around the discussion parts here, old RfA's, ArbCom things, etc, and whenever I see your name pop up in a response, it's always the kindest and most civil. You remember the human, but you're not afraid to speak the truth, and whenever you do it's always in such a respectful and commendable way. It's really great to have sysops like you, and that's not mentioning your brilliant contributions in mainspace and elsewhere - but all of that it incredibly insignificant when compared to your mad hair) Best, Ed6767 talk! 19:41, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ed6767! It's been quite some time since we've last spoken! I appreciate the very kind words, and they mean a lot to me - thank you. How've you been? I hope you're doing well despite the pandemic and these crazy times... Luckily, I live in an area where the number of cases are comparatively very low. I only know of one friend who tested positive (and recovered without much issue), and everyone I work with and interact with on a daily basis have been keeping healthy. It's a serious virus that nobody should mess around with (and unfortunately, if you've seen the news stories about the US and all of the parties, crowded bars, and people who carelessly don't follow ordnance - people have been messing with it), but I'm fortunate to be able to say that, other than having to remember a mask when I go out to the store, and not being able to get out and socialize nearly as much as I'd like to, the pandemic hasn't personally affected me very much. I hope the same applies to you as well. Be safe, keep healthy, and take care of yourself. And keep in touch! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:47, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oshwah, it's no problem - I'm good, times are quite weird down here, and I think I'm pretty lucky living in a fairly unaffected area too. It's mainly my relatives that are of the most concern to me here, especially their closeness to London. Most people here wear a mask, even the dodgier types. I'm currently just reading and looking into Wikipedia more to become even more familiar with how things work around here. Thanks for your kind response :) Ed talk! 18:38, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ed6767 - We're glad to have you here! I started on Wikipedia 13 years ago when I was in High School and when all I wanted to do was cause trouble. I figured that if I just make sneaky vandalism that was hard to detect or be seen as obvious, I'd get away with it. Nonetheless, when I learned that non-administrators - pretty much any user - had the power to revert edits, warn users, and participate in cleaning up the website, it surprised and fascinated me! It wasn't long at all before I switched sides and started cleaning up the same sneaky vandalism that I was trying to add here.
Many editors don't believe me when I say that I started here as a vandal, but it's true - look at my contributions. :-) My very first edits were obviously intended to be disruptive. ;-) I hope that you stay with us, keep building your knowledge and participation here, and grow into a knowledgeable and experienced editor. When I was sitting in the library at my High School signing up for an account so that I could be a troll here, I never imagined that I'd still be here, 13 years later, and be where I am with the community today. If you find a project or activity here that you enjoy doing, similar to what like I enjoy doing when I patrol for vandalism, you'll have a lot of fun, and you'll grow to be a significant part of one of the most visited websites in the world.
Keep in touch, and I hope I continue to see you around here! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:09, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help with new editor

Hi Osh, hope all is going well! I don't know how busy you are so if this is too much absolutely no worries – I've been trying to work with a new editor (Mohd.maaz864) who I don't seem to be getting through to. The user has a habit of leaving messages like Talk:Al_Jazeera#The_Guardian®'s_report_on_a_memo and I am out of ideas on how to help and these kinds of edits have continued. I deeply admire your approach to working with new editors – would you mind looking at this and seeing if you could chat with the user? I would be endlessly grateful Best, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 07:27, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi L235! I'm so sorry for the late response to your request here. I would've been more than happy to help had I not been busy and had seen this much sooner. It looks like this user was blocked for WP:NOTHERE. What ended up happening that caused the decision to block the user? I'm sorry man... I wish I could've helped... :-/ ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:46, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, no worries! I'd come across the user's prior block history and advice previously, and decided that an ANI thread was appropriate due to the long-term disruption (Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive1043 § Mohd.maaz864). Admins at ANI decided to block, which makes sense in light of the history and seems to be confirmed by the user's post-block actions. Unfortunately I imagine that the disruption would just have continued without a block, regardless of the counseling/warning that was attempted. Best, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 17:12, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
L235 - Well, then it sounds like the right action was taken. Otherwise, we'd all just be wasting our time just for the inevitable to happen. Glad to hear that the issue was handled. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:40, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Questions about a puzzling pattern of edits

This morning I ran across a surprising AfD, that turned out to be one of a trio of malformed AfDs filed by the same user Feloniii.

Atlantic306, ‎Praxidicae, and I all messaged him about the AfD problems on his talk page, but he deleted our comments (as is his right.) His AfD for Keren Bergman was SKed, and the other two are getting unanimous K !votes, so that's not the problem now.

I went to his contributions to see if he had AfDed other notable women, and what I found was unusual enough that I want your advice. The "Feloniii" account was created in 2017 by somebody experienced enough that the first two edits were moving scripts to common.js. The account lay unused from June 2018 to June 2020, when Feloniii started adding short descriptions to many articles. Having reached 2000 edits, Felonii on July 30 asked to become a Pending Changes Reviewer, which Anarchyte refused, pointing out that the great bulk of those 2000 edits are just shortdesc helper.

Also on July 30, Felonii started some non-shortdesc edits -- like this for example -- eventually AfDing 3 articles and defending his actions.

I know I should AGF but it just feels that something funny is going on here. But I could be wrong, and I welcome your advice. HouseOfChange (talk) 20:36, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Update, Aranya has filed a sockpuppet investigation of Feloniii, so that may explain the puzzling behavior. 19:40, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
HouseOfChange - Interesting... Let me know how the SPI goes and if I can help with anything. I'll be happy to do so. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:51, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Any good proxies?

Oshwah, do you know about any good proxies that I can use for IRC? SuperGoose007 (Honk!) 18:02, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SuperGoose007! Are you perhaps referring to an IRC bouncer? I personally don't use one, but I know many that do. They typically use ZNC as their bouncer (just google it - you'll find it). You can also refer to this resource for a list of good bouncers, software, and other tools. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else, and I'll be happy to do so. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:49, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Have there been any major incidents where a Wikipedian had been DDoS'd while using IRC? SuperGoose007 (Honk!) 19:32, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
SuperGoose007 - Not that I'm aware of, but trolls will be trolls, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's happened before. If having your real IP address displayed on IRC is a concern for you, I'd either use a VPN before connecting, or consider applying for a cloak. I use a cloak on Wikipedia's freenode servers, which hides your IP address when you connect and disconnect. I would apply for a cloak and use it - it's the best way to hide your IP address, and limit your risk of forgetting to connect through your VPN and accidentally exposing your IP address when you connect. Keep in mind that I've heard that the application process can take quite some time - I think someone said that it was over a month until they received one after applying. I'd apply now so that you can get yourself started with that process. Please let me know if I can answer any more questions, and I'll be happy to do so. I'll be great to see you on there! :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:51, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

USS Franklin (CV-13)

Hi Osh, can you look at USS Franklin (CV-13), and see about some semi-protection? An IP hopper keeps making changes to cited text based on original research, and refuses to cite reliable sources. In addition, its latest summary is a bit offensive, but not worthy of a revdel. BilCat (talk) 22:53, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BilCat! I have a much easier solution than protecting the article - I went ahead and blocked 2A02:8108:49BF:F01C::/64 for one week. That should stop the IP hopping and the addition of poorly sourced content to the article. Let me know if he pops up again and I'll be happy to take care of it. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:55, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and no problem. I've found it's usually best to ask for article protection, and let the admin apply another solution if it's warranted. :) BilCat (talk) 23:00, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
BilCat - Heh, that works too. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:01, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Herbert Hoover

Hi, a request has been made at WP:RFPP, but could you please go ahead and semi-protect Herbert Hoover? The page has been viciously attacked with IP-hopping vandalism and the previous protection, which was one year in length, expired a very short time ago. The page, which has been vandalized consistently for more than a year despite multiple protections, is currently pending changes protected but given the vandalism I don't think PC will work. Indefinite protection may be called for. Joshonian (talk) 02:37, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jhaji Bhagalpur wale! Thanks for leaving me a message here. A page that will help you with this is Wikipedia's my first article help page. I would use the articles for creation process, as it will allow you to create an article in the draft space. This will allow you all the time that you need to expand the article and finish it, then have a reviewer assist you and move the article into the mainspace (where articles are located). Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. It will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will be very helpful to you. Most users who take this advice and complete the tutorial tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise. Please let me know if you have any questions after reading through those help pages, and I'll be happy to help you. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:22, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Germantown, MD wiki entry without source

Hello, Oshwah!

In relation to the "Germantown Maryland" page under "Expansion," (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Germantown,_Maryland&oldid=971919571) I did mean to have a entry without a source, I was having problems with the link working. I was using the sourse: https://www.archives.gov/files/research/military/vietnam-war/casualty-lists/md-alpha.pdf by the United States Archives on page 47 and 53. Is this source and what I added to the wiki to your liking?

Have a good day or night, "A cats paw" (talk) 13:37, 9 August 2020 (UTC)"A cats paw"[reply]

"A cats paw" - At first glance, I don't see any red flags with the reference. This content guideline page will provide you with help and instructions on how to cite your source. Please let me know if you have any questions after reading thought it, and I'll be happy to help you. Thanks for the message and for letting me know about the edit. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:32, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, again!
I have reviewed the article, and I have figured out my mistake. I apologize, I am very new to Wikipedia. What should I do now? Attempt to edit the page again with a correct source, or is there another way?
Thank you,

Hi "A cats paw"! No worries; I understand that you're new, and mistakes are going to be completely expected. We assume good faith on Wikipedia - especially with new users. Sure, go ahead and edit the article again and add the content with your reference. Include an explanation in the edit summary. Let me know if you continue to have any issues. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:14, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"A cats paw" - It looks fine to me. The content you added is displaying properly, and the reference you cited is listed in the "references" section at the bottom of the article. Do a search through the latest revision of the article, and you should see it. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:01, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Oshwah. There seems to be a dispute at South Park, as Dan Wescher insists on making nonconsensual changes to the introduction. On the article's talk page and edit summaries, he repeatedly claims that he does not understand WP:CON, ignores, mocks, and posts other nonsense on my own talk page such as this. Regards, QuestFour (talk) 18:02, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi QuestFour! Thanks for leaving me a message regarding the ongoing issues on the South Park article. I'll start a discussion on the article's talk page and ping you both in it so that you two can participate. Just remember to be careful; the edit history of this article shows that between July 20 - July 25, you and Dan Wescher were engaging in edit warring by reverting each other in a back-and-forth manner. Keep note that the three-revert rule is a bright-line rule; it doesn't define edit warring and when someone has or has not engaged in that behavior at all - it's a rule that provides users with a line that, when crossed, will almost certainly be handled as edit warring in nearly all cases. I just don't want to see you get sucked into that pitfall and get blocked for it. ;-) Keep a look out for a ping notification soon. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:48, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The post here

Quick thing, I never made this edit, so it may have been from a VPN. I'm notifying you this since I have a Wikipedia account and I don't want anyone who check IPs to assume I was the vandal. 67.80.180.218 (talk) 00:34, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Thanks for letting me know. I recommend using your account to edit Wikipedia, as you won't run into any issues with edits made using your current IP address that weren't made by you. This is a common occurrence - especially for public or shared networks, or IP addresses that switch hands often (DHCP or dynamic assignment). Just disregard the warning if it wasn't you. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:17, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I'll do my best to respond from what I translated from your message. Nobody is "banned" from editing the COVID-19 pandemic in Kyrgyzstan article. The article is simply semi-protected from editing, meaning that editing is restricted from users who do not have a Wikipedia account or users who have an account that isn't confirmed or auto-confirmed. Instead, you just need to make an edit request on the article's talk page and describe exactly what needs to be changed, where, and what it should be changed to. Another Wikipedia editor will review your request and make the appropriate changes for you (assuming no issues are found). Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:43, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Re: "Domain_hack" wiki-page

Hi Oshwah,

I just received a message saying my edit of the wikipage "Domain_hack" was reverted because it contained a suspicious link.

The edit that I submitted was:

"On the 8th April 2020, a new hobbyist website, Nami.ng was launched - listing short single-word domain hacks currently in personal or business use, as well as those used either for redirection, or as a domain shortener by larger corporations.

Could you please help out on how to make the edit successfully.

In all transparency, yes, it is my project, but it is also highly relevant to the topic. Would be happy to have the link in the references, and take out the direct link from the article.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thank you in advance, and hope you are keeping safe and healthy.

Alex

Hi there! Thanks for the message! The best page to refer to is Wikipedia's policy on external links and when they can and can't be used. I felt that the section you added here read more like an advertisement for this website and that it wasn't directly relevant or related to the article subject. This is why I removed the content. Please let me know if you have any questions after reviewing the policy page on external links, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:29, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Hi Eng Mohammed Hamdy, and thanks for leaving me a message regarding the draft pages you created. I'm sorry if the result of the reviews of these drafts have frustrated you; we try our best to give new users as positive and smooth of a transition to Wikipedia as possible. Unfortunately, this doesn't always work that way - especially with the number of policies and guidelines that we have. The main reason that your drafts were declined was because they didn't appear to meet Wikipedia's guidelines on notability. Notability is what establishes the difference between what article subjects should have their own article on Wikipedia, and which ones don't. Before you create any more draft articles, it's important that you understand what notability is and how it's established before you spend a bunch of time for it to potentially be wasted. Please let me know if you have any more questions after reviweing the new user tutorial and the notability guidelines, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:46, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Marita Lorenz Daughter with corrections

Hello, I need for History sake to correct you....you are speaking of my Mother Marita Lorenz as if you know her. I am Marita Lorenz daughter Monica. Thank you for taking time to mention her but correction is needed. Jennifer Lawrence no longer has rights. I do as the oldest child AND DNA proven child of former President Marcos Perez Jimenez of Venezuela. There is no proven fact that she has a child with Fidel Castro but I believe she does. Marita also has a son named Mark Lorenz.

Thank your for correcting this. Sincerely, Monica Perez Jimenez — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:E000:A5C6:6600:5973:DCE:8503:8026 (talk) 00:51, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Unfortunately, you indicate that you have a conflict of interest with the article subject, and you're adding content based off of original research instead of supporting the content with reliable sources. These are the reasons that your changes to this article is not appropriate. We do not encourage editors to modify articles if they have a conflict of interest with the article subject. Please focus on contributing to articles where no such conflict exists. This assures that all content on Wikipedia is written to reflect a neutral point of view. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Thank you for understanding. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:58, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Don Lemon

Thanks for putting the autoconfirmed protection on the article about Don Lemon. I actually thought that would be a better choice for this article, but wasn't sure how to request it. That silly IP doesn't understand the definition of insanity, that's for sure. ----Dr.Margi 05:32, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Drmargi! No problem! You can request pending changes protection of articles at RFPP just like you can for semi protection. The reason I applied pending changes protection instead of semi protection was due to the frequency of the edits being made, and the fact that pending changes protection can be applied for a longer duration than semi protection (since pending changes protection allows editing by anonymous users and new accounts; they just require review). This will allow legitimate edits by these types of users to be made to the article while keeping the disruption out. Perfect way to handle this. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:47, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That;s good to know! I really like pending changes protection for these situations because it stops a nuisance IP in their tracks without punishing good IP editors. I'm not confident that this one will stop any time soon, unfortunately. Best! ----Dr.Margi 07:18, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Drmargi - You're likely right, but only time will tell. The nice thing about protection is that it can be easily extended if it expires and if shenanigans continue. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:07, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mass rollback needed

Oshwah, hope you are doing well. If you're still online and have a little time to spare, there's a newer editor who just did mass amount of page moves that are unjustified and should all be rolled back.

The editor apparently saw an article title such as "Black Mamba (roller coaster)" believing it needed to have the park name in the title and moved it to "Black Mamba (Phantasialand)". Further disambiguation isn't required in any of these cases. Thanks in advance for looking at this! --GoneIn60 (talk) 15:05, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi GoneIn60! Holy cow... Yeah, I can undo those moves. It's going to take some time, though... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:29, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comment

Hello I'd like to bring one point to your attention, I'm being vilified on the admin page, but editors are making remarks directed at me which read "My personal belief is that the world would be much better off if Christianity did not and never existed..." and that's ok. If I'm gonna get blocked that I get blocked, but there is no doubt that such comments are inherently insensitive and bias. --E-960 (talk) 16:21, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

E-960 - I agree with your statement regarding the overall behavior in that discussion. Talk Page Protection

Hi Oshwah, you might have seen my request yesterday at WP:ANI and I was just wondering when it would be appropriate to have my talk page protected. Maybe it might not be necessary yet, (well, it could be), but I was just wondering, given the nature of my counter-vandalism work, when would that be appropriate? Now or when it gets worse? Best, P,TO 19104 (talk) (contribs) 21:42, 11 August 2020 (UTC).[reply]

Hi P,TO 19104! Thanks for the message! I've never requested semi-protection for my user talk page before. When my user talk page gets semi-protected, it's always because another admin happens to stroll by while it's being hammered with a high number of abusive edits. My user talk page is being kicked and beaten so badly and frequently, that they just apply semi protection to the page without any discussion. :-) That being said, if the number of abusive and harassing edits on your user talk page get to a level to where it's happening at a very high rate and by numerous IP trolls and for a length of time that becomes distracting and interferes with your ability to contribute, I don't see a problem with asking for it. There's no "line" or "requirement" for how bad things have to get before you can request protection. There are a lot of variables that could make this harassment more severe than that harassment. Don't worry about it too much... If it gets to the point where it's actually disrupting your ability to contribute effectively, just request it. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:25, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unwarranted accusations of vandalism

Why did you accuse me of vandalism to Australian megafauna? I explained the reasons for every edit I made to that article, if you care to look at the history page!

For example, the marsupial lion is listed as two different weights. It can't be both of them. All the additions and corrections I made are valid ones. I'd like to know immediately why you did this, because I don't like being accused of a crime I didn't commit! Therefore, I'm asking you nicely that you restore it to what it was before.Malcolmlucascollins (talk) 02:33, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves and redirects

Hi, Oshwah,

It's been a while. I see that you corrected a lot of bad moves this afternoon. In the future, when you move a page back to its original location after a bad move, could you leave a redirect?

For each page that is moved, without a redirect, there are often page redirects that now become broken links which are deleted by a bot (see User:AnomieBOT III/Broken redirects). But if you leave a redirect at the "wrong" location, the bots will redirect the redirects to the correct location. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 04:03, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Liz! Oh my god! Long time no see! How the heck are you?!! I hope you're doing well and that your health has been good. I know that you were going through some things, and I'm glad to see you back. Hmm... so maybe I'm just confused. I checked out the link to AnomieBOT that you gave to me... Are what's listed on that page a bunch of redirects that pointed to what were the original article names before that user changed them? I'm just trying to wrap my head around this; if the user moves a page, the original page is now a redirect to the new one. But if I move it back and don't leave a redirect - I'm assuming that the redirects to what was the original page name get modified to point to the location of the new article name? If this is the case, then I understand how this could break things, as they're now pointing to the abyss of nothingness. My thought in not leaving a redirect was to restore things to the way that they were before the ridiculously bad moves were performed. This is why I did not leave redirects - they weren't there before the move, I felt that they didn't need to exist after the corrections were performed. Is this what I'm looking at on that list? I'm just trying to understand what I broke by just moving the page back without leaving cookie crumbs. I thought that leaving redirects would be pointless, and just result in having a bunch of unused redirects sitting around.... Ugh, the complexity of things and what I must consider when I make fixes... I understand; I guess I didn't think about this or consider this as a possibility when I decided to undo the page moves and not leave redirects behind. I thought it would be messy... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:32, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

1619 Project is a conspiracy theory

Should all of the articles listed in the Conspiracy Theory category also be edited to reflect this same "neutral" point of view? Can we list Flat Earth Theory as a real theory instead of a conspiracy theory? How about this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reptilian_conspiracy_theory The title of the article itself is not neutral. It asserts the Reptillian overlords are just a conspiracy theory, and not real. How is this "neutral"?

The "1619 project" is already listed as History Revisionism, and historians are highly critical about the claims made by the 1619 Project. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/12/historians-clash-1619-project/604093/

The author of the 1619 project is also known for spreading other conspiracy theories: https://www.nationalreview.com/news/1619-project-author-apologizes-for-fanning-conspiracy-theory-that-government-agents-using-fireworks-to-destabilize-blm-movement/

The claims made by the 1619 project are not based on historical data, but instead around ideological agenda. The United States of America was objectively, according to all recorded history and data, not founded in 1619. So to claim it was, is false. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.52.12.240 (talk) 16:49, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I'm honestly not too knowledgeable or versed on this particular article subject, so I don't come to you here as an expert of any kind. I just saw that you made this edit to The 1619 Project changing the article subject's lead paragraph that labeled it as "an ongoing project" to "a conspiracy theory", and I felt that your edit and the content changed reflected your opinion. I advise starting a discussion on the article's talk page if you believe that this content should be modified. This will allow community input and a decision to be made by consensus. Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:58, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No subject

On the Pacific Palisades update: Pacific Palisades has the 5th highest per capital income in the County, and is around 81% White according to the LA times mapping LA project. These are notable facts worthy of inclusion. No one is making any sort of judgement good or bad about the area by including that information. Nearby neighborhoods Bel Air, Los Angeles, and Brentwood, Los Angeles include this information. If it was a matter of tone, that should be edited, but as for content, the data should be included as it is in other nearby neighborhoods. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.157.79.79 (talk) 19:51, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Your edit here labels the Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles as "wealthy", which isn't neutral. Your explanation here stating that the Pacific Palisades has the 5th largest capital income in the country, and that 81% of people living there are white - is completely irrelevant. First, why would having a white population of 81% have anything to do with wealth? You assume that, because mostly white people live there, that it's "wealthy"? Sure, having the 5th largest capital income in the United States is significant, but you define that as "wealthy"? What exactly is "wealthy"? One person's definition of "wealthy" varies very radically from another person's definition of "wealthy", and this is why adding that term causes a negative impact on the article's content in regards to being written to reflect a neutral point of view. This is the reason that I reverted the edit you made to the article. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:06, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What I put down was in the reference itself, I just added in more information from it. If you check the "reflections" reference itself, the two pieces of information that I added in are also in there. Around the part talking about his two grandmothers that had an impact on his life, he says that they were both descended from plantation and slaveowners, and that one of them was the progenitor of Brown's Town, the town he grew up in.108.54.158.204 (talk) 20:05, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Thanks for letting me know. I apologize for the confusion and for any inconvenience that my reversion of your change may have caused upon you. So long as it's referenced, I'm okay with it. I just didn't see you provide one, and that was the reason for reverting your edit. Feel free to add the content back to the article if you wish to do so. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:09, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I left the reason why I made the edit. I moved he's a cancer survivor to be earlier in the paragraph because it came from the same source as the other sentence. Black Lives Matters

You do realize that you managed to re-revert yourself? [2] You might want to check your settings or whatever. --Calton | Talk 14:41, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Calton - I did that on purpose. After reverting, I noticed that the content I restored was describing the article subject as a "black supremacist and black nationalist terrorist organization," so I reverted my reversion and took it back off. It was (supposed to be) a temporary resolution to the problem until I could find a revision further back. The revision I found and reverted to apparently didn't save... Not sure how that happened... :-/ ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:39, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, maybe I'm not understanding this: are you saying that you DELIBERATELY restored an edit that called BLM a "black supremacist and black nationalist terrorist organization"? On purpose? What "problem" requires this "solution"? --Calton | Talk 19:09, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Calton - Maybe my response above wasn't clear, and for that I apologize. Let me clarify: I restored what I believed to be content removal from the article that had an inaccurate edit summary with the edit. After restoring that content, I realized what it said, and realized that the removal was, in fact, legitimate. I then purposefully reverted my last edit to hide the content again until I could find a revision further back on the article's history page to fix it. I did not intentionally restore that content knowing that it contained that vandalism. I had just not noticed until after I reverted the original edit that the user was removing vandalism. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:44, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oshwah hey - sorry, I didn't notice that this was already under discussion or I wouldn't have give you the fish below. GirthSummit (blether) 19:50, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Girth Summit - Nah, it's still a trout I deserve. I should've noticed the ridiculous nonsense in the content before I restored it. Was it a small goof on a technical level? Sure, but given everything that's going on, that "goof" I made could've upset a lot of people, and that's not okay on my part. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:55, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty sure Oshwah didn't intentionally restore vandalism, and as stated above, it was just a goof. Glad it's gotten sorted now, and the trout has been given already! -- Dane talk 20:18, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

So by the way I am not calling you a Holocaust denier, or Wikipedia, but somebody has turned what should be called the sack of Berwick into the capture of Berwick, I cam not understand the inhumanity of using such a term, it is like something out of a Hollywood movie about a callous imperialist, who does not care about the massacre of civilians, to call a event where thousands of civilians were killed, the capture, is frightening, so that is why I changed it, it should be the sack of Berwick, not the capture as the term capture means nothing, compared to what the event was, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.148.238.109 (talk) 22:19, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what would make "Capture of Berwick" such an offensive term compared to "Sack of Berwick", but I appreciate the clarification. In the end, the article subject term should match the title of the article. If you need to have this changed, you should file a move request. Sack of Berwick

P.S i AM NOT CALLING YOU A Holocaust denier, I just think the term capture of Berwick, for what most historians say was a brutal sacking, is very underscoring a massacre, to a horrific extent, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.148.238.109 (talk) 22:15, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Yes, thank you, Oshwah, I will need you help, please. I'm new here. I made the changes and left the sources from the 2 books about Vadim Meller and his wife Nina Genke. I dont know why these sources are not here - it's from 2 books: 1.Avant-garde Art in Ukraine 1910-1930, Myroslav Shkandrij, Academis Studies Press, Bosotn 2019 2. Modernism in Kyiv . Jubilant Experimentation, 2010, University of Toronto Press. I made the references 2 in each article. Will be wonderful if you will help me to put these references back.

Thank you,

Nina — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nina Vetrova-Robinson (talkcontribs) 00:06, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nina Vetrova-Robinson! Thanks for the message! I'll be happy to help you. Have you read through Wikipedia's guideline page on how to cite sources? You basically will edit the article, follow the directions given to you by that guideline page, and you'll add your source. Please let me know if you have any questions after reading through the guideline page, and I'll be happy to answer them. I also recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial, as it will give you many helpful tutorials and walkthroughs that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. This is one of the multiple socks accounts that has created fake articles on various Wikis, more details here pt:Categoria:!Fantoches de Suaaltexareal. GRS73 (talk) 02:52, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

GRS73 - You should consider requesting a global lock of the account by a Steward if this user is causing disruption over many Wikimedia projects. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:58, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Several of these accounts are already blocked globally, but he does not appear to have any intention of stopping disruptive actions. GRS73 (talk) 03:04, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
GRS73 - Apart from getting them globally locked, assuming they hop IP addresses, there's not much more we can do except spot them quickly and maintain sharp "whack-a-mole" skills... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:06, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
