Well, it looks like I'm here for the same purpose as the person above me, but that doesn't diminish how I feel! Thanks for the tool!! Hi there! Just a note to say "thanks very much" for your support on my recent, successful RfA. I appreciate your support, and will be doing my best to use the tools carefully and for the betterment of the encyclopedia. Tony Fox (arf!) 06:19, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, well, that was a reference to my alternate account, Bellatrix Kerrigan. I decided I would be better off leaving that reference out and stick with just the mention of the account. :) Acalamari 02:45, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Man, you're good

Thanks for protecting July 18. You are all over my RPPs! Keep up the good work! J-ſtanContribsUser page 23:40, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome, and thanks for the compliment! Whenever I've seen your name at RFPP, I've seen an accurate report, so I am happy to answer your requests. :) For the record, I decided on a month's worth of semi-protection on July 18 rather than indefinite, but, as I said on RFPP, we'll see how it goes after the month. :) Acalamari 23:45, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, no problem, and thanks! I don't make a ton of reports, but I usually check the history for the past 100 or 250 edits for reverts. And temporary is fine, I just wanted to make indef an option. Cheers! J-ſtanContribsUser page 00:24, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Glad you're pleased with the decision. :) Acalamari 02:38, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! Just seen your post to Wikipedia talk:New admin school/Protecting - I was wondering if you could write a section on salting pages given that we can now do it by just clicking protect? I'd suggest using Wikipedia:New admin school/Protecting/Salt as an example - it's probably best keeping to the same format as we have to protecting articles. Anyway, it'd be good if you could do it :-) - thanks. Ryan Postlethwaite 04:35, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like you'll be getting quite a few of these - but thank you for granting my Rollbacker status. This is an article I found this morning via watching Lupin's Live Spellcheck. I find that often it leads me to articles that contain a bunch of gibberish, but are on the whole good articles. This article, however, appears to be (from my side), complete gibberish. I'm not sure if it's really valid for CSD, or Prod, or if I should give the user more time to turn it into a valid article, since it was first created about half an hour ago.

Based on reading the author's talk page, it seems (and this is admittedly my opinion) that he goes out of his way on the paranoia about certain health-related topics.

Advice? --MikeVitale 18:04, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Weird...I'd assume good faith for now, just to see if the user fixes it, and if nothing changes in a couple of hours, take it to WP:MFD. Acalamari 18:09, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Just one minute to grant that request? Remarkable! It's trippy to see the "rollback" button after the links after all this time without it. Well, thanks. Everyking (talk) 19:02, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't always take one minute to grant the request: some users are known to be trustworthy enough to grant it immediately while others take more time to research them. In your case, I knew you were trustworthy to use rollback from both the fact that you were an effective admin during your time as a sysop, from my past observations of you, and because I don't believe you'll ever be abusive: I can trust you. Good luck, Everyking. :) Acalamari 19:06, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. What was the point of deleting that page? Couldn't the nominee have just declined there? Thanks!   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 19:08, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Miranda had declined the request, and since declined rquests are normally deleted, I asked her if she wanted it deleted, and she did. I can link to the discussion if you wish. Acalamari 19:10, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick response. I guess the bigger question is "why is it that 'declined rquests are normally deleted'?" It would seem to me that closing them with links to declinations would be more transparent.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 19:17, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there isn't any point in keeping them around, and in the log for Miranda's second RfA, it will show that I deleted it, with a reason for deletion. Also, if the second RfA was closed, and it never happened, and then Miranda's 3rd nomination was created later, it looks like Miranda went through two previous RfAs when in reality she had only gone through one. Acalamari 19:20, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

Thank you. Do I have to do anything in my preferences, or will the feature just show up when I look at edit histories? Corvus cornixtalk 19:23, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. :) No, you don't need to change anything in your preferences. Acalamari 19:27, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
thanks. I ran a test, and everything seems cool. Corvus cornixtalk 19:37, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry, I had a similar situation when I was made an admin. One minute, the buttons aren't there, then, the next page loads, and wow! Buttons! :) I've seen you around many times, as well as interacted with you, and know you are a user I can trust with rollback; therefore, I was happy to grant your request. Good luck. Acalamari 19:40, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you as well!   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 20:20, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! I looked through your reverts, and they looked good, including one where you reverted someone, realized you'd made an error with that error, and immediately reverted it back. :) Good luck. Acalamari 20:21, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for granting me rollback rights, Acalamari. I know I don't spend a lot of time vandal fighting but every little bit helps, right? Thanks again. --Kyoko 21:53, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, heh, you're welcome, but it wasn't me who gave it to you: it was Moreschi, though I would have gladly given it to you as well. You'll want to thank him instead. :) Acalamari 21:56, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, my mistake. I took a glance at your activity logs and misread them. Thanks anyway. P.S. If you do change your signature, please don't make it blink. --Kyoko 21:59, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's all right. :) With my signature, how do you like this? (I dislike flashly signatures too, don't worry.) Acalamari 22:01, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To conserve section headers: Thanks from me too! --barneca (talk) 22:46, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. :) From my past observations of you, I don't believe you'll abuse rollback. :) Good luck. Acalamari 22:48, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not fast enough! :) Thanks for the non-archive, though. After using it about half a dozen times, I must say, I'm not sure what I find more puzzling: the vehemence that some people have against granting it to everyone, or the vehemence that some people have against having it taken away... --barneca (talk) 18:27, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw that. :) You're welcome for the non-archive too. If you ever want rollback returned, you know where to go. :) With the current discussions, I don't see why they're necessary: RfR has been functioning fine, in my opinion, and I've been one of the most active people there. Acalamari 18:31, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your sig

Dude, your sig is really boring! Shall I make it look really cool? Majorly (talk) 21:45, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the offer, but I've always liked the simple signature. :) Funnily enough, my type of signature has now become rare due to the MediaWiki change that adds the talk page to the signature. I dislike really flashy signatures; they're annoying. Maybe I'll add italics to my signature, however, like your talk page link. :) I'll see how that looks. Acalamari 21:51, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That signature looks fine to me in an understated way. With my own signature, there's a link to my talk page, but you have to discover it (hence the different colour at the end). You might consider doing something similar, though I'd prefer it if you don't copy my style exactly. --Kyoko 22:07, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I found the talk page link in your signature. :) No, I won't copy your design: I'm not even going to have a talk page link anyway, though thank you for the suggestion. :) Thanks for the feedback. Acalamari 22:09, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hillary

Thanks! I am new to this whole admin thing and was concerned not to over-protect the article, hoping most of the fuss would die down within the day. I have no objection to the extension and will keep an eye on it to see it could be safely lifted. If it gets a mention in the "in the news" section of the main page, this may not be for a while. Thanks for letting me know. -- Mattinbgn\talk 00:27, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! In my experience with recent deaths, I've found there's almost always heavy vandalism to the articles about them. With protecting pages, don't worry, most protections require a week or two. :) Acalamari 00:30, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dreadstar couldn't count that day. | My discussion with AuburnPilot gives the best summary of it I can give ... in short, Dreadstar counted an edit as a revert that was not, and treated constructive editing as edit warring.Kww (talk) 00:40, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine then, though I will kindly remind you that rollback is for vandalism reverting only, although I don't think I need to tell you that. Thanks for the explanation. Acalamari 00:42, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are you seriously trying to help?

Hi there! I'm not a wikipedia member, but I've tried in the past to add the helpline link on "Delhi University" page. You have removed it on both occassions. We have worked very hard to create a website for people to ask questions related to the University. It is a non commercial project, money being used to develop the infrastructure further. Please try and understand the importance of this for the hundreds of thousands of students, admission seekers who can't find appropriate answers on the official website. We have helped over 5 thousand students in the last 3 months. We will remove the link ourselves if it is not helpful for students anymore. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.111.35.196 (talk) 18:09, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To my knowledge, I only removed a link one time from that article, see here, and that was because it was added by a user who had a username like the link, and so I removed the link, and then blocked the user, as the username violated our username policy. Acalamari 18:16, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, sure...

Make it look easy. Score one for me on the stupidity scale. :) Kafziel Talk 18:19, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, ha! :) Don't worry, I went and changed Barneca's rights from (none) to (none) after you had already changed their rights, see here. :) Acalamari 18:22, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ha ha... okay, I guess we're even. Kafziel Talk 18:29, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Roolback

Thanks so much never spotted how to do it - its not going to happen to me unless guys are gonna make a stand. Thank you so much sir Bpeps (talk) 20:10, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome for my help, and thank you for fixing the request, but unfortunately, the admin who answered your request didn't grant you rollback (for now). The reason for this was that you only had about 45 edits. However, looking at your edits, they seem to be good quality. Might I suggest you read Wikipedia:Vandalism to read about vandalism, do a bit of vandal-fighting, and maybe re-apply for rollback in a couple of weeks? It's up to you: I believe you'd benefit from having rollback after gaining a bit more experience. Acalamari 20:15, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
thank you - I know I wasn't liked - mayed he only saw 45 edits and didn't know I can do that too with TW you know. I have some good articles which have stood in wikipedia and some people have contributed to them :-). There is no rule for roolback, I have good standing, not so many edits but enough for TW or to write my first articles. Bpeps (talk) 20:23, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So cool thank you so much - make sure you check on me and I am doing OK - thanks Bpeps (talk) 20:28, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
no some User:Merovigian said I cuss too much. I ask the guy I cuss to explain if it was a joke or real blackmail or I don't know. I feel like make myself so much crying - you honestly can't believe. But making vandalism is not the same as making noise on a user page who helped me. Bpeps (talk) 21:31, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw that. I kindly suggest you do wait some time before applying for rollback again: I do not believe it will be a good idea to apply right now. Acalamari 21:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much

Thank you for the rollback tool! JetLover (talk) (Report a mistake) 22:40, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dispute

Hey, I have a request, and you can handle it faster if I put it here than at RPP. Editors keep removing an AfD tag from Sorudo, when the debate hasn't closed yet. Would you mind full-protecting it, or closing the debate at AfD? I promise not to edit the article if it is fully protected, that would be a cheap shot to the editors. Thanks, J-ſtanContribsUser page 22:46, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind, it's cool. J-ſtanContribsUser page 23:09, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hello J-stan, I would have fully-protected the article, but unfortunately, I was offline at the time. At least it's been sorted now anyway. :) Acalamari 23:20, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

I hadn't heard about this. It'll save me a couple of clicks when I rv bored middle schoolboys at Sodium. Cheers. Gwen Gale (talk) 04:35, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking query

I blocked Cun2 before and seemed to have blocked an IP range too, (eek!). Could you help me, I have absolutely no idea how to fix it. Thanks in advance. Rudget. 18:27, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've unblocked Cun2, and checked if there were any autoblocks (none), but why the block in the first place? I can't see why this one needs blocking. Can you please clarify? Acalamari 18:46, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was under the impression it was a sort of leet version of cunt. Therefore a username block. Rudget. 18:55, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I found the IP range and unblocked that too. Anyway, with this username, it's a borderline one at most, and one I think we should assume good faith with it. It may look like "cunt" but it could also just plainly be "Cun2". I'd advise against blocking this one, hence why I have not reblocked the account. Acalamari 18:58, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a million. Rudget. 19:00, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, but please, unless you're absolutely sure a username violates the username policy, don't block it. If you're not sure about a name, try to discuss it with the user first, and if that doesn't work, take it to WP:RFCN. Username blocks can be very tricky. Acalamari 19:03, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hey

wtf is wrong with u? I didnt vandalise, It was a constructive edit. proof it. --Kraasbouerg (talk) 20:11, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

What I did was constructive. Tell me how it wasnt constructive please. --Kraasbouerg (talk) 20:10, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm: on a second review of this edit, it may not have been vandalism, but at the very least, the nickname for Michael Richards containing a slang word was unsourced and unnecessary. Acalamari 20:13, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Politically correct jerk. --Kraasbouerg (talk) 21:00, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mind the personal attacks please: the nicknames were not sourced and therefore did not comply with our biography of living persons policy. Acalamari 21:34, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Rollback

I use Twinkle, which has the rollback function. Thanks for your offer, though. KJS77 22:06, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I know you use Twinkle. :) It's just that I can change your user rights from (none) to (rollbacker) which will give you the MediaWiki rollback, and it can be used alongside Twinkle. At any rate though, keep up your good anti-vandalism work. Acalamari 22:09, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try it. If I like it, I'll use it. If not, I'll just keep using Twinkle by itself. KJS77 22:12, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done. The best thing about rollback is that, while it can be given out easily, it can be taken away quickly too. Acalamari 22:15, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

Hey, thanks for going ahead and granting me rollback. I am generally happy with old fashioned reverting, but had thought about looking into it whenever I had the time, which was probably going to be this very weekend. Warm regards, and happy editing.  Done. I'm fine as well, thanks. :) Remember that rollback is to be used on vandalism only, and is not to be used to edit-war or to revert good-faith edits. Good luck. Acalamari 20:35, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! --Party (talk) 21:34, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

Hello Remember the dot, I have granted rollback rights to your account. The reason for this is that, after a review of some of your contributions, I can trust you to use rollback correctly. You know the difference between a good-faith edit and vandalism, so therefore, I can trust you not to use rollback abusively by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. If you don't want rollback, let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck. Acalamari 04:39, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting. I don't know if I'll use it much, but having it could prove useful. Thanks!
As a side note, I wish that I could block persistent vandals as well, but it doesn't look like that right can be granted separate from full adminship... —Remember the dot (talk) 05:14, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! I think there might have been proposals to give out individual blocking, protecting, and deleting rights in the past, but none of them gained consensus (at least, I think there were proposals, I'm not sure). As for your use of rollback, it doesn't matter how much you use it as long as you use it correctly. :) Good luck. Acalamari 20:20, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding my Thanks for the rollback! to the list. :) TomasBat 13:49, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tool to help you fight vandalism quicker. See Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback for advice on how to use it. Acalamari 00:13, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RfA Thanks

Hi Acalamari - thanks for your participation in my request for adminship. It passed 52/0/0, and I'm now in possession of a shiny new mop. If I can ever help you with anything, please don't hesitate to contact me. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 09:26, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

'crat

Are you a crat now?--SJP (talk) 12:37, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm not: administrators have recently been given the ability to grant rollback, but making people admins, renaming users, and flagging bots is still a bureaucrat job, and I'm not a bureaucrat. Acalamari 17:16, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Rollback

I have to say that that's rather unexpected...just wanted to say thanks for the rights and I promise to use them well. --tennisman 14:07, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, I use Twinkle at home on my Firefox-enabled computer. I rollback with this and go to warn...what're the templates? (w/r/t the "Warn" function of twinkle) :-) --tennisman 14:15, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. :) The rollback I've given you doesn't come with warnings: it's just a rollback button. Rollback can be used alongside Twinkle. Acalamari 17:11, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I use IE at school, is what I meant, and cannot use Twinkle. Thus I have forgotten many of the warning templates. --tennisman 16:57, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The place to find warning templates is Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. Hope that helps. Acalamari 17:08, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rudget!

Dear Acalamari, my sincere thanks for your support in my second request for adminship, which ended with 113 supports, 11 opposes, and 4 neutral. I would especially like to thank my admin coach and nominator, Rlevse and Ryan Postlethwaite who in addition to Ioeth all inspired me to run for a second candidacy. I would also like to make a special mention to Phoenix-wiki, Dihyrdogen Monoxide and OhanaUnited who all offered to do co-nominations, but I unfortunately had to decline. I had all these funny ideas that it would fail again, and I was prepared for the worst, but at least it showed that the community really does have something other places don't. Who would have though Gmail would have been so effective? 32 emails in one week! (Even if it does classify some as junk :P) I'm glad that I've been appointed after a nail biting and some might call, decision changing RFA, but if you ever need anything, just get in touch. The very best of luck for 2008 and beyond, Rudget. 16:38, 15 January 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Rollback

My thanks for the addition of the rollback facility to my account; looks like I've got some reading to do! --Kateshortforbob 19:48, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. :) Good luck. Acalamari 19:49, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Yes I'm verging on 100,000 edits, although I will have to reduce my editing more in the future. I refused adminship before, and many people know that I don't wish to become an admin although I practically function as one. Certain admin tools I could have would be useful particularly wen you know how constructive an editor I am. One of the things was when I create new articles often in bulk it clogs up the new pages meaning they have to be patrolled when I always create decent content ans mos toften with a number of references. Is there some way my new articles could be unhiglighted like an admin? -it would save other editor s alot of effort in checking. Thanks -I too need to read up on it regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:50, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. :) Yes, you do create a lot of new pages: I think I read somewhere that you have created more new articles than anyone else: impressive work. However, to my knowledge, I don't know of anything that will automatically mark articles you create as patrolled. It's possible that there may be a user script, but I don't know if anyone has written one like that. Acalamari 19:55, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you noticed!!! However I;d like to nominate a user who I think wikipedia would benefit from having the roll back feature even more so than myself. Please check the editing history of User:Shshshsh. A lot of his editing time involved having to revert the bad edits of vandals and IP address on the Bollywood film star pages. I would strongly recommend that he is given this feature - I think he can be trsued and would only use it in good faith - as it would make his protection of many of the core Bollywood pages easier. Just see how many reverts he has to do on a daily basis from vandals . Regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 20:22, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion. Anyway, Shshshsh does a lot of reverts, and many good, but there are some I reviewed which didn't look like vandalism reversion to me and I believe there should have been an explanation to the reverts, see [1], [2], and [3]. In those reverts, I think he should have left a reason in the edit summary to why he reverted them. Rollback is supposed to be for reverting vandalism only, and if an edit may require an explanation, rollback shouldn't be used, as rollback doesn't leave any explanation other than "reverted edits by X to last version by Y". I think with Shshshsh, I'll leave a note on his talk page first before granting him rollback. Acalamari 21:19, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for giving me the rollback function too, it is very fast. Jackaranga (talk) 21:01, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
