Calie (Calickamo) here - thanks so much for helping me with my very first article about an architectural building . . . I'll add the photo in 4 days as you suggest. Thanks again. You're the best. Dec. 17th 8:59 a.m.

Elliptic curve primality proving

I had not checked carefully that Morain's program is free. I assumed that since he wrote an article about it and since there was a separate section for binaries that it was. Apparently the source used to be available, but is not anymore, because he doesn't want to get bug reports about it. So the implementations are both non-free. Since they are non-free it is not clear that they are implementations of the algorithm claimed or that they do not contain malware. We shouldn't be linking to malware. --MarSch 15:41, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(This originated at User_talk:MarSch#ECPP_programs) We shouldn't link to known malware but nobody (AFAIK) has ever mentioned the possibility that the 2 programs might contain malware. I would be extremely surprised if they do. I search primes and have cooperated with both authors. I have great respect for their work on Elliptic curve primality proving. Writing these programs is very hard and there are few potential users. Wikipedia links to lots of sites with programs which are not open source (is there a policy against that?). The lacking source means listing them under "Implementations" could be misunderstood, but I think the sites (which also have ECPP information) should be in external links. They are the fastest and most respected publicly available ECPP programs, and they have both set several ECPP records (no other publicly available program has set any AFAIK). PrimeHunter 16:29, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, the programs output ECPP certificates (verifiable by other programs) for primes not known at programming time, so they are by definition ECPP implementations. PrimeHunter 16:49, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jens,

...You closed Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2006 December 5#Fictional Her Majesty's Prison Service employees. Category:Fictional wardens pointed and still points to the same CfD debate. There is also a Category:Fictional correctional officers which should perhaps be merged with the others.

Thanks for spotting this oversight; Fictional wardens is now slated to be merged with Fictional prison officers and governors. I've also tagged Fictional correctional officers as a {{categoryredirect}} to Fictional prison officers and governors, so this too should soon be emptied. Best wishes, David Kernow (talk) 12:27, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My As of question

Thanks for pointing this out to me, when the help desk query had already been and gone (relatively) - this was exactly what I had remembered seeing, but couldn't remember exactly where!Garrie 00:52, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Smarandache-Wellin number, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. —David Eppstein 19:35, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Truncatable prime

Great work fixing up Truncatable prime. I'd have liked to see footnotes used for the refs, but beggars can't be choosers, and you've certainly improved the article vastly. Thanks for your efforts. --Sopoforic 19:12, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. It's a short article with short references, and most information can easily be found in several of them. I don't know policy on this point, but I view the OEIS template as an inline citation equivalent to a footnote, but with no need to repeat under notes/references. The OEIS sequences include definitions, the first truncatable primes, the number of them, and the largest. All this information is also in MathWorld, the first in the references section. By the way, my own website has a page about truncatable primes [1], but I didn't reference it. PrimeHunter 13:40, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AIV

Thank you for making a report about Konaninakos (talk · contribs · block log) on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you. Sandstein 11:59, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What is your problems?

why must you bust my chops the whole time?

      • Reply. I don't read anywhere that you cannot give yourself barnstars. I never linked to any real admins in them - Jimbo and the Jet Set, come on that's amusing. There is no rule against leaving a redirect on your user page. Though several people seem to have disputed the idea since (what policy are they enacting???). As far as I know, I am allowed to archive my own talk pages, so I don't know what your issue is there. I'm too tired to fight, just tell me what I've done wrong. I'm not one for games. CheeseyPuff 21:37, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please just stop busting my chops OK. CheeseyPuff 21:43, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Those were comments in an AfD discussion, so other editors could see your actions and possibly use them when judging your claims about the discussed article. I have not examined policies about them. My only user page warning to you was for changing articles to all caps (like you just did to this page), and I guess you agree that is inappropriate. PrimeHunter 21:48, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CheeseyPuff

I live in a shared house, and this user will never ever post under my name again. I suggest CheseeyPuff is blocked to be honest, but is there a way to block my IP without blocking a good account (this one)? Jsc83 23:04, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The edit in your name was harmless and I don't mind. I don't know technical details of blocking. I think CheseeyPuff and edits by your IP without logging in could be blocked without affecting your account, but I don't know whether the same holds for "prevent account creation". I have no current plans to request blocking of CheseeyPuff at WP:AIV, but I may watch his edits. PrimeHunter 23:20, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have looked at the changes [2] and they don't affect my views. It's original research and it uses a time complexity definition I have never seen before and which is not used in those of your own references I have examined. The definition (to only count memory writes in time complexity) appears strange and of no practical use so I would be surprised if any reliable source has used it. PrimeHunter 02:28, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I prodded it because it is unreferenced and has been tagged so since December 2005, and no one wants to take the time to do it. Per WP:V If an article topic has no reliable, third-party sources, Wikipedia should not have an article on it. If you would like to put a refence on it, I will put a {{Refimprove}} on it and leave it alone. Jeepday (talk) 01:25, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Brian Reddyb, Rednex

Please stop removing and thereby discounting my involvement in the band Rednex. I find it completely offensive. And if I have developed a cult following amongst people that have an infatuation with my name and therefore decide post it on articles such as that of Saddam Hussein, I apologise, but unfortunately that is out of my control. My involvement in Rednex may have been short lived, but I am credited as one of the initial producers. So stop vandalising the page please and keep Wikipedia factual Brian Reddyb 23:00, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The name has been added with no source to this and other articles. I have found no source satisfying Wikipedia:Reliable sources to Brian Reddyb being involved with Rednex, while there are sources for the other 3 named producers. I'm following Wikipedia policies as I have explained at Talk:Rednex. PrimeHunter 00:00, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy! I ran across Primes in arithmetic progression on Special:Newpages a few days back, and I've been racking my brain trying to come up with a decent pithy hook to land it in the Did You Know section of the Main Page, without success. Since it's only got a day or two of eligibility left, I figured I'd check to see if you (as the article creator) think there's a suitably short and interesting fact about the topic to be found. If you do, feel free to add it to the June 13 section of the Suggestions page. If not, well, thanks and congratulations anyway for making a solid, well-referenced article on the topic :) GeeJo (t)(c) • 13:08, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Updated DYK query On 18 June, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article primes in arithmetic progression, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

-- Well done :) I can't say that I really expect the article to receive many useful edits given the rather esoteric nature of the topic, but it's always better to live in hope! GeeJo (t)(c) • 15:48, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio (?)

I've looked. The editor does have a conflict of interest (User:Kristinneff) but the website doesn't use the text directly (although the references are the same - but that looks like standard reference formatting). Ugh, now I see. Quite a lot of the article is copyrighted, now that I look at it - but some of it appears not to be (like the introduction). But since most of it is a copyvio, I guess that it should be deleted, right? x42bn6 Talk Mess 22:58, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

prime number

I see you like prime numbers. What is your favorite prime number and do you know any prime number jokes? -- Jreferee (Talk) 23:39, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I search prime number records and my favorite prime numbers are generally those I discover! I mostly search patterns of prime numbers but if you want an individual number then I suppose I like the largest known doubly palindromic prime. There are two prime number jokes I have seen several times. I once added the "2 is the oddest prime" joke to Wikipedia [3] - reliably sourced of course; we are making an encyclopedia. And I have seen many variations of the "all odd numbers are prime" joke. The first hit for me has a long list: http://www.gdargaud.net/Humor/OddPrime.html. PrimeHunter 00:18, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the table suggestion

Thanks for the suggestion. It's not ideal because the two tables have to contain the same number of rows, so I had to cheat a little with "blank" cells. Unsourced Claim on Legendre's Conjecture

I removed the claim written on the Legendre's Conjecture page about "A successful proof of Legendre's conjecture would also resolve Brocard's Conjecture", since you removed my claim that "A successful proof of Legendre's conjecture would also resolve the Goldbach Conjecture". You said that my claim was a false claim. But if my claim was false, then that would be enough to imply that the first claim is false.

One source I read said that Opperman made the following claim in 1883:

Proving that there must be at least five prime numbers between pn and p(n + 1) for all p ≥ 3 (this is essentially Brocard's conjecture), would be enough to imply that every even number greater that 2 is the sum of two primes (this is the Goldbach conjecture).

PhiEaglesfan712 20:41, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know Opperman's work, but pn and p(n + 1) are by definition consecutive primes so there are no primes between them. Removing the original claim is fine by me. It was me who tagged it with {{fact}} [4] because I seriously doubted it. PrimeHunter 21:34, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I meant between (pn)2 and (pn+1)2. PhiEaglesfan712 12:04, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I doubt Opperman has proved this would imply Goldbach. It should not be added without giving a reliable source. PrimeHunter 12:25, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If p is a prime number greater than 3 then p mod 6 is either 1 or 5 and p mod 30 is 1, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, or 29.
This are two independant parts:
  1. If p is a prime number greater than 3 then p mod 6 is either 1 or 5
  2. If p is a prime number greater than 5 then p mod 30 is 1, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, or 29

than there exist another independand Dirichlet:

  1. If p is a prime number greater than 2 then p mod 4 is either 1 or 3

Advice

Good Morning PrimeHunter -

Thank you again for your assistance the other day!

Now I was wondering if I can get some advice......What do I do when one of the Wikipedia editors seems to have a personal "beef" with one of the article pages? I got the Marc Ostrofsky page all cleaned up and looking good and Richfife has gone in there and added a section that isn't factual or true. Mr. Ostrofsky has communicated this to me.

I have followed the Wikietiquitte and notified Richfife of this and asked that he remove the article prior to formally notifying WP of the slander.

He hasn't touched the article for Mr. Ostrofsky since 11-11-07, I get it cleaned up and he decides to add the slanderish piece on 11-28-07. If you view the discussion page for Marc's article you will see that he has touched the article on multiple occassions since April 2007 and never felt the need to add this until now.

Do you have any advice for me on how to handle this?

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Screen frozen

My screen was frozen. I could not see my post being received. Thanks. I have found what I need.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 01:41, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

For fixing Rashad Jeanty's page, how do you find out who it is and how to fix it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.122.237.11 (talk) 17:23, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Thank you for teaching me how to change my username from red to blue. It's now blue. On my user page, I have given you the credit! Bothsidesspin (talk) 00:17, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see your user page says that you are Danish. I once visited Denmark. I had a very nice time. I went to a museum and learned that you can change your appearance with toothpaste. One person did this to escape from the Germans in 1940. Bothsidesspin (talk) 00:20, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RfA revisited

Hoe do you feel now about adminship? I know you previously stated that you don't need the tools for what you do now, which is clearly true for all off us, because if one is not an admin, you can't use the admin tools, and therefore can't take part in admin activities. I could imagine it being usefull for you to have the tools and start contributing in administrative thingies. From your contributions on the helpdesk speaks a strong understanding of most things Wiki. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 16:13, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just as a friendly note: still thinking about it, or are you not interested? Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 13:07, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know whether we want to have both the logos or just the most recent one, so I just restored the image and mentioned it at Talk:International Boxing Association. Regards, Mike Rosoft (talk) 23:14, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have replaced the image with the new logo; however, the image will probably need to be re-uploaded, because its resolution is too high, and it has severe artifacts from JPG compression. (The image is in JPG format with the artifacts visible even at the organization's website.) - Mike Rosoft (talk) 14:15, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From Shir-El too...

Regarding the infobox request at [7], I see Fuhghettaboutit has changed to using {{Infobox Artist}} here. See that link for the documentation. And see Wikipedia:List of infoboxes for many but not all infoboxes ({{Infobox Artist}} appears to be missing there). There is no infobox specific to painters. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:00, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you both for your help. I rejected Infobox Artist after a trial because it actively suppressed too much relevant data. From a quick look (i.e. Turner) it seems Infobox Person is also acceptable. I'll be working on this article for several days yet in case anything new crops up. Thank you again, Shir-El too (talk) 20:03, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks man, really thanks

Apparently, many people here woke up really bad-tempered and attack me because I committed a mistake. You never attacked me and you trusted me when I want a new Category. I promise you that I will put many Spanish serial killers on the Category. Now I'm going to sleep but tomorrow I will put many Spanish serial killers on the category. Thanks . I'm really grateful for your help. Kisses my dear Danish and thanks again. Ahmed987147 (talk) 06:49, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit counters

Sorry for the disturbance but I thought I could save the trip to the Wikipedia Help desk by asking you here about the edit counters and specifically Kate's and Interiot's including Tool2. They haven't worked for a day or so and Interiot has not edited since July 2007 so I couldn't ask him. Would you know what happened? Thanks. Dr.K. (talk) 18:27, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I did not. This has happened several times already. Some lifeless person has been impersonating me for a couple of months. Thanks for telling me. Happy holidays! --Agüeybaná 21:01, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A consensus has been reached by your peers that you should be an admin. I have made it so. Please review Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list and keep up the great work. Sincerely, Kingturtle (talk) 23:24, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
