DYK for Misfits and Magic

On 7 August 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Misfits and Magic, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the creators of Misfits and Magic said that they sympathize with those who choose not to watch it? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Misfits and Magic. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Misfits and Magic), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

August songs
my story today

Thank you for that one! - My story today - a first - isn't about an article by me, but one I reviewed for DYK, see here. I like all: topic, "hook", connected article (a GA on its way towards FA), image and the music "in the background". I just returned from a weekend with two weddings, so also like the spirit ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:15, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Again not by me: today's story - with the triumph of music over military - is uplifting! - No cake yet, but a butterfly and open-air opera. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:25, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

More pics uploaded, with wedding cakes - I couldn't resist. Today's story is about the Inkpot Madonna who returned to "her place" 9 years ago, and also has aspects of early learning, see? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:04, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

308 supports and rising, as I predicted ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:25, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations! - Today is the anniversary of the premiere of Götterdämmerung. Berit Lindholm sang its final scene in concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London, only four years after her stage debut in a Mozart opera in Stockholm. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:17, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have a small job for you: watch Rachel Yakar where I just reverted unexplained changes to a GA a second time. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:27, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Gerda Arendt: I'm not wholly convinced that the edits are vandalism (if they are, they're very elaborate vandalism), so I would open a dialogue rather than risk edit-warring :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 18:10, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
?? Vandalism? I only asked you to watch it, no? - Open a dialogue? I did before I asked you, no? - The edits had a miserable edit summary, and changed the referencing which had just been changed for GA, with a ref after each sentence. I was going out, and didn't want the article to stay in that condition in case it happened again. Sorry that I had no time to explain all that ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:39, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerda Arendt: Well, watch for what, then? :) If they're not vandalism, please follow WP:BRD and open up a discussion on the talk page (which I don't see). theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 21:53, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry about my lack of English. - I opened the discussion. I had to go out for several hours, and wanted to prevent the article to stay in an unwanted stage, and you were the first person coming to my mind. I'm back now, - relax. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:01, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerda Arendt: I'm curious – when you say you opened the discussion, do you mean in your edit summaries? Because the talk page hasn'tbeen edited in weeks... theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 22:04, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now I'm even more sorry, because, while I'm sure I typed that message to the user, I'm not sure I hit "save", and looks like I didn't. I'm too tired to type it again, but will if it happens again. The concert was great (on my talk)! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:24, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A very large khamsa for you

Right around now someone's probably going to say something stupid. You know what I mean. May this protect you from the evil eye and any well-meaning supporters who might summon it. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 18:55, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Whew, just in time. I'll add 5 pixels to be safe. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 19:03, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I also heard there's some good T-Shirts that protect you from the stupidity, like the 'I'm not an admin but I still get a crappy t-shirt t-shirt, and the 'I'm waiting for my RFA to finish and all I get is this crappy t-shirt from Tamzin with a khamsa on it'. But in all seriousness, when you get the t-shirt, make sure to send us a photo of it, I've never seen a leek wearing a t-shirt before, and this year is the year for it. In actual seriousness though, good work :) - Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 06:16, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, I think you're misunderstanding what the khamsa represents, @Zippybonzo. It relates to a Jewish superstition about premature celebration. :P I'm not worried about whatever opposes leek may or may not get; I'm worried about the supports! -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 16:20, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciation from Ixtal

Cute lil' corgi!
So happy to see you run again, it seems you'll pass without problem and will be able to use the tools soon. Your presence on the wiki the past year has made it a much better experience for tons of us and you really do represent the type of community member I hope we can continue attracting. As you can see I'm not great at compliments but yeah! Good luck during the rest of the process. — Ixtal ( T / C ) Non nobis solum. 16:36, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Ixtal! In the end, I think you were right – it was worth it for me to try again later, even though most RfAers these days never come back after a first fail. selling yourself short, you're great at compliments :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 18:06, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure kabbalah has something to say about using a khamsa to game the system... -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 19:49, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In Arab culture, the khamsa is more about ayn al-hasud than anything. Festucalextalk 21:13, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well it's the same in Jewish culture. The relevance here is that the ayin hora notices people talking about good things and then ruins them. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 21:23, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm so glad to have been a part of this, even though you clearly would've passed without my co-nom. It's this close to 300! Beeblebrox (talk) 04:03, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A remarkably celebratory process to date. Nothing even remotely negative. Unusual in the general good humor being expressed by supporters and even in the oppose section. Says something about the quality of the candidate, IMHO. It occurred to me if tlc has promoted 2600 DYKs in the last few years, thousands of positive interactions with many hundreds of other wikipedians. Promotion was not a favor, but a test of trust between those nominators and this DYK volunteer. Lots of good will expressed. I have abundant confidence she will demonstrate quickly her potency as an admin (if over 100 !voters don't oppose in the next 24). BusterD (talk) 16:04, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Updating DYK bots list

Hi! I just updated User:Shubinator/Bots at DYK with GalliumBot, DYKToolsBot, DYKToolsAdminBot, and DeadbeefBot. It looks like this page got untranscluded & forked from the DYK documentation late last year? Feel free to add these entries into Wikipedia:Did you know/Scripts and bots :) I would, but have to run to other obligations. Have a great weekend! Féleekitations, Claudia! Quite the showing with that 100%--if the community's confidence is any accurate barometer, you shall be a very useful addition to the corps indeed. I don't think we ever crossed paths prior to your RfA (at least that I recall), but after observing your conduct there, I hope we do so in the future. Happy editing (and mopping)! SnowRise let's rap 19:00, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, by the way, I think you should know that Valereee was saying something along the lines of "leeky is all around difficult, but come on, we all want a taste of that", or something to that effect. Still, just very over the line, Val--so disappointed! 😤 SnowRise let's rap 21:33, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Valereee, we can supply you with a women's cut variant of the admin T-shirt, but in the interests of honesty and transparency, the women's cuts were all printed to say "I'm an admin, and all I get is this crappy T-shirt! ...and a 20x increased likelihood of being called a 'meddlesome c***' by an LTA at some point." Lol, thanks, but I don't think I can take much credit for that save the initial nudge, and a few (hopefully) helpful comments - and besides, as any good chef will tell you, it helps when cooking with good ingredients : )
And apparently, as we have seen, it seems that leeks are a welcome ingredient as well : ) - jc37 21:46, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats from me too. I don't know how to cook leeks in a cauldron, but if you cut the leek into inch thick chunks and drizzle some olive oil on them they roast just fine. Salt and pepper to taste. @SL93: Oh, so good to see you! I was just wondering about you :) how are things? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 17:14, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Things are going good. I start four online college classes tomorrow for the semester. My lawyer finally received the settlement check from when I car hit me on December 1, 2023 at a crosswalk. I likely won't have access to that money until next month. SL93 (talk) 17:22, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats, and the advice

Congratulations on your successful RFA!
Carrying on a tradition, allow me to impart the words of wisdom I received from KrakatoaKatie after my RFA passed almost eight long, exhausting, and questionable years ago:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version. (I got nothing here. It's inevitable.)
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. Without exception, you will pick the wrong one to do. (See #5.)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll. (You'll attract many more of those now, because mop. They must like to drink the dirty water in the bucket.)
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block, because really, what else is there to live for?
  5. Remember that when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology. It will not be a personal attack because we are admins and, therefore, we are all rouge anyway.
  6. Finally, remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Would you please fully protect my userpage?

Since you have a new mop to swing... No reason anyone but me should edit or move. Thanks. I'll think of other demi-menial tasks for you to perform, now that you serve the entire community. So proud of you, kiddo. Blow us all away! BusterD (talk) 20:20, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BusterD: I'll do my best :) (and,  Not done) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 08:09, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
