Rie Tanaka (田中 理恵, Tanaka Rie, born January 3, 1979, in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan)[1] is a Japanese voice actress and singer.[2][3][4][5] Notable among her numerous roles in anime are Lacus Clyne in Mobile Suit Gundam Seed and Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, Chi in Chobits, Hikari Kujou/Shiny Luminous in Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart, Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke in Strike Witches and Suigintou in the anime adaptation of Rozen Maiden.[6] In video games, she provides the voice of title character Neptune in the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise, Morrigan Aensland in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Project X Zone, Sesshoin Kiara in Fate/Extra and Fate/Grand Order, Mitsuru Kirijo in Persona 3, and Lisa in Genshin Impact.
Music career
As well as being an actress, Tanaka is also a singer. Tanaka has released three albums: Garnet, 24 Wishes and Kokoro, but did not gain much success. She also released Mizu no Akashi (Field of Hope), an insert song for PHASE-36 and 41 of the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and first appeared in her Mobile Suit Gundam SEED SUIT CD vol.3 LACUS x HARO album. Tanaka is also a member of the Steel Angels, a singing trio composed of the three lead voice actors of Steel Angel Kurumi, together with Atsuko Enomoto and Masayo Kurata. Tanaka published a photo collection called Irodorie in May 2008
Personal life
Tanaka married fellow Japanese voice actor Kōichi Yamadera on June 17, 2012.[7]
She had a fan club called Cafe de Rie that ran until 2013.[8] On June 23, 2013, a man with a knife intruded a Neptunia promotion where Tanaka was present,[9] yelling "Give me Tanaka! I am the victim!". In the hustle, Tanaka fell and bruised her knee. After the incident, she took a break from Twitter[10][11][12] and later returned in 2014.[13]
In August 2018, Tanaka and Yamadera announced they have filed for divorce.[14]
