Komodo Airport[1] (Indonesian: Bandar Udara Komodo) (IATA: LBJ, ICAO: WATO) is an airport near the town of Labuan Bajo on the island of Flores in the East Nusa Tenggara province in Indonesia. The airport's name comes from Labuan Bajo's status as a departure point for tours to the nearby Komodo National Park, home of the Komodo dragon.
It was formerly known as Mutiara II Airport,[2] not to be confused with Mutiara Airport located near the city of Palu in Indonesia's Central Sulawesi province. On September 2013 the first Boeing 737-800 landed and took off successfully.
On 27 December 2015, President Joko Widodo inaugurated new terminal of Komodo Airport.
The new terminal will be able to improve passenger services from the previous 150 thousand passengers per year to 1.5 million passengers per year are expected to increase the number of tourists coming to the island of Flores and its surroundings.
Facilities
The airport resides at an elevation of 67 feet (20 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 17/35 with an asphalt surface measuring 1,650 by 30 metres (5,413 ft × 98 ft).[1][2]
In addition, the foundation also extended runway with a length of 2,250 meters and a width of 45 meters which can accommodate aircraft jet medium class A 320, B 737-800 and B 737-900. Previously only able to accommodate aircraft propeller class class ATR 72-600.[4]
It is estimated that 16 aircraft can land and take off each day with the expansion of the runway. In the future, this service will also be sought to operate 24 hours.

Incidents
On September 14, 2011 an Aviastar aircraft hit a group of cows upon landing at Komodo Airport, slightly damaging its forward part, although the airport officers had driven the cows away using motorcycles, before the aircraft landed.[5]
