Moonidih is a village in Dhanbad district in the Indian state of Jharkhand

Geography

The nearest railway station to Moonidih is 8 km away at Mahuda. A branch line for transportation of goods connects Moonidih coal mine and coal washery to Mahuda railway junction. Monnidih is 8 km from Jharia, 10 km from Dhanbad, other nearby villages and mines are at Lodna (6.4 km), Putki (2.5 km), Jamadoba (6.2 km). The Damodar River flows near Moonidih village.

Transportation

Trekkers and mini buses and state buses are available, which connect Moonidih to Jharia, Dhanbad and other places. Public transport buses are few.

Coal mines

Various projects have been going on for utilization of coal which is present in huge amount in Dhanbad. Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) is a subsidiary of Coal India Limited with its headquarters in Dhanbad, works the Moonidh coal mine since nationalization of coalmines in 1971. It is a more than a century old underground shaft mine and washery. Due to the presence of coal washery, the Damodar river is badly polluted, making its water unusable for local community. Bharat Coking Coal Limited also operates a power plant based on coal bed methane, which is found profusely in Moonidih underground mines.

Education

There is D.A.V Public School, Moonidih, Indian School of Learning, Moonidih, Bhaisiya School, Jatudih, are the schools which caters the need of children of villages and staff working in coal mines and washery. Many students of these schools have achieved milestones and are working with national and international firms. Chandan Kumar, alumni of DAV Public School, popularly known as Nasa, of 2009 Batch has achieved great success and earned fame all because of his friends.

Out of many schools present in Moonidih, DAV Moonidih is ranked first on its academic performance.
