San Mauro Cilento is a town and comune in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-western Italy. In 2010 its population was 982.[2]
Geography
San Mauro (also named Casalsoprano or Casal Soprano, i. e. Upper Farmhouse)[3] is located on a hillside in Cilento, near Stella mountain. Its municipal territory, extended on the coast, borders with Montecorice, Pollica, Serramezzana and Sessa Cilento. Its hamlets (frazioni) are:
- Casalsottano (or Casal Sottano, i. e. Lower Farmhouse -40°12′59.72″N 15°2′13.74″E / 40.2165889°N 15.0371500°E-)[3] is a medieval rural hill village few km from San Mauro Cilento. The village is 465 amsl and its population is of 463.[4]
- Mezzatorre (i.e. Half Tower -40°11′45.96″N 15°1′13.94″E / 40.1961000°N 15.0205389°E-) is a village on the Cilentan Coast between Agnone Cilento and Acciaroli. The locality, that counts some sea resorts, is 32 amsl and its population is of 39.[5]
