Spencer Matthews (born 6 August 1989) is a socialite and foreign exchange broker who has participated in three notable TV shows: Made in Chelsea, I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and The Bachelor. Spencer's brother, James Matthews, is heir to the Scottish title of Laird of Glen Affric and the fiancé of Pippa Middleton. Spencer's father is landowner David Matthews, who also owns the resort, Eden Rock, St Barths. Spencer's mother is artist Jane Matthews (née Spencer), a graduate of London's Slade School of Art.[1][2]

Career

Matthews came into the public eye most prominently through the E4 show Made in Chelsea. His storylines have tended to focus around his love life, with the first series beginning with his friendship with Caggie Dunlop supposedly leading to something more. He has gone on to date several cast members, earning him a reputation as a bit of a lothario. Matthews reportedly has left the show since hitting headlines with a supposed steroid drug problem.[3]

In 2012, Matthews was the principal participant in The Bachelor UK series 5.[4] In 2015, he participated in the fifteenth series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!,[5] but withdrew after two days.

Matthews is estimated to be worth £2.9m, partly as a result of his family's hotel business, and partly from his work as a PR manager, foreign exchange trader and actor.[6]

Spencer Matthews was educated at Eton. According to The Guardian, he 'considers himself a Northerner' as his father David - the current Laird of Glen Affric - was originally from Sheffield.[7][8][9]

Personal life

Matthews has dated Lucy Watson, Louise Thompson,[10] Lauren Hutton,[10] Stephanie Pratt[11] and Vicky Pattison.[12] Owing to his brother James' engagement, Spencer will be the brother-in-law of Pippa Middleton who is the future Lady Glenaffric and sister of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.[13][14][15][16]
