Birthdate
[edit]IMDB and every single article I've seen on him say he was born on August 14, not March 2. So why does this page still say March 2? Bangdrum 03:57, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm. I've just noticed this too. I'm being BOLD and changing it pronto. -- JackofOz (talk) 10:12, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Armstrong disagrees. See Time Out. WorkingFromWithin (talk) 12:45, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Is there a web version of Time Out? (For the majority of the world NOT in London...) I'd think there'd have to be a link to something as a source to contradict IMDB and such, even if it's just a footnote with the issue number/date of the magazine. Bangdrum (talk) 13:41, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Armstrong has disagreed again, on his Twitter feed (http://twitter.com/Xanneroo/status/3358087862). It's been marked as citation needed, but I'd say it should be removed if it's contradicted by the person himself. Bailey (talk) 07:43, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- FreeBMD offers the following:
- Births March 2, 1970
- ARMSTRONG
- Alexander Henry F.
- Mother's maiden name Thompson-McCausland
- District Northumberland N2
- Volume 1b
- Page 1118
- Izzat him? Bangdrum (talk) 13:24, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- Since we still have a citation problem here, and since I can't see the full record, but certainly think it looks like a pretty decent match, I'm being bold and using it for the cite... Bangdrum (talk) 04:18, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
Education
[edit]On the British TV show "The F Word" (Channel 4, 27/05/2008), Gordon Ramsey interviewed Armstrong. In the interview Armstrong suggests he did a PhD in physics at Cambridge. I was unable to find more information on this. Would this be a suitable source for wikiedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.5.201.91 (talk) 00:05, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Actually it's Ben Miller who did (and never finished) the PhD.... Bangdrum (talk) 01:32, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Countdown
[edit]The reference for this section clearly speculates on the matter rather than confirms that it is true. Therefore, it must be classed as rumour until Armstrong or the production company makes a statement on the matter. Jomunro (talk) 13:56, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. Besides, wasn't there a similar kind of reporting at the time re: HIGNFY? (To the point where, I think, Armstrong was actually angry he wasn't given the job?) Bangdrum (talk) 18:35, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- I've removed the 'Countdown host' box which was definitely premature. Tilefish (talk) 07:49, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Still "may need to be rewritten?"
[edit]This article has had that tag on it for a very long time, and it's largely improved since then. I'm being bold and removing the tag, unless anyone's got any objections... Bangdrum (talk) 16:25, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
Is he single? Is he married?
[edit]I posted the simple line that he is "Single and never married", but someone edited it saying that was "Bizarre and untrue"? Can you please list his wife's name then. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.159.111.98 (talk) 07:44, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- OK, for articles, we've got:
[1] [2] [3] and more, but anyone can google... Pictures? Here: [4]
OK? Bangdrum (talk) 12:39, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- Also, I made a new section on the page about it. Should suffice, I think. Bangdrum (talk) 12:50, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Armstrong and Miller on 'The Tube'
[edit]I can't see a reference to Armstrong, Miller or both in small sketches on 'The Tube' programme as members of a fictitious 'European' rock band. They always mentioned the bands name, but I can't remember, possibly 'Stryker', something with an 's' which sounds more like 'sh', in a pretend Dutch accent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.114.75.142 (talk) 23:08, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Ancestry
[edit]Wouldn't the bit about his ancestry fit better with the early life section than the personal life? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 183.179.200.191 (talk) 20:47, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not incredibly convinced that the family tree is necessary. The JPStalk to me 14:00, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
Is it relevant anyway? Hundreds of thousands of people are descendants of William 79.76.125.124 (talk) 17:16, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

Siblings
[edit]This is Armstrong's sister Alice, [5] no? And his brother is Dominic, [6], no? He was the youngest of three children : [7]. I don't think his two siblings need to be notable to be added to the article. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:49, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

Alexander Armstrong (comedian) → Alexander Armstrong (entertainer) – Hearing the album A Year of Songs, I'm amazed by his promising music career. I read that he is also a comedian, an actor, et al. Probably "comedian" is not the right way to describe him fully. If "entertainer" is not the way, how about "actor", "television presenter", or "host"? George Ho (talk) 17:35, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose "the entertainer ...." isn't used in modern English to describe TV comedians such as Armstrong. See books: https://www.google.com/search?tbo=p&tbm=bks&q=%22entertainer+alexander+armstrong%22&num=10 https://www.google.com/search?tbo=p&tbm=bks&q=%22comedian+alexander+armstrong%22&num=10 In ictu oculi (talk) 17:52, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
- What about his non-comedy travel book? --George Ho (talk) 17:58, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
- What about it :). We don't use "entertainer" in normal English to describe people. It's only found in relation to music hall acts, or sycophancy, such as publicist blurbs or as in Madonna (entertainer) on en.wikipedia. In ictu oculi (talk) 18:50, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
- What about his non-comedy travel book? --George Ho (talk) 17:58, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose - agree very much with In ictu oculi. Although he has become highly regarded as a singer, his recording career is still at a fledgling stage. I still think he is most widely known as a comedian, or possibly as a quiz-show host for Pointless - and I'd certainly not describe that role as one of "entertainer". Martinevans123 (talk) 18:46, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
- Comment: what is he most notable for? He is most notable as a comedian. While his music career is covered extensively in the article, it does not appear to be his primary topic of interest. DaltonCastle (talk) 02:15, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose. Still most notable as being half of a comedy double act. Also a TV presenter (very notable for that), actor and singer, but the current disambiguator is fine. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:54, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose. If anything he's the primary topic: almost 98% of views in the last 90 days.[8]. Unreal7 (talk) 19:07, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
