  • I've already redirected to the proper naming, which of course it isnt "Guinea-Bissau Creole" a name of a country with 30 or so years, and this creole is spoken for much longer. Most importantly it is spoken in Senegal, and linguistic subdivision is not country-wise, but cities, and the creole of Senegal is the same as in Cacheu. Although Guinea Creole was in fact not the best because there are various countries known as "Guinea". Used Upper Guinea per Glottolog and SIL. Although they preferred to use Portuguese "Crioulo" instead of "Creole". For en.WP it is better to use the English name.--Pedro (talk) 16:06, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Guinea Creole is a translation from Portuguese Crioulo da Guiné or crioulo guineense. Simple google searches give you answers. the problem with you. Is that you are the one pulling things out of your head, and your sources is something you read on wikipedia or because you felt hurt. Porque iria querer inventar? apenas estou a organizar o caos que tu e outros gostam de fazer, por pura ignorancia, orgulho no teu caso.   • there is no thing as "afro-Portuguese creoles", it was a subdivision invented by wikipedians in order to organize information, proper subdivision is this one.
  • You are having a very disruptive behavior.
  • Upper Guinea creole refers to the creole spoken in Guinea-Bissau and Senegal. It is the correct named and the most used NAME IS MOST RELIABLE and NEUTRAL Sources, because all these creoles are know just as "crioulo" and people add up as they please. --Pedro (talk) 16:50, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The correct name is "Guinea-Bissau Creole"[edit]

Could anyone change the name of this article, please? The designation "Upper Guinea Creole" coined by some sites is not used by reliable bibliography, and it is certainly not used by anyone in every day usage. Thank you. 41.221.193.169 (talk) 08:06, 14 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Upper Guinea Creole → Guinea-Bissau Creole – I'm starting this discussion on behalf of Rui Gabriel Correia who pinged Kwamikagami and me about moving this to the suggested target. The argument presented is that the term "Upper Guinea Creole" is apparently ambiguous (as a family that contains Guinea-Bissau Creole and Cape Verdean Creole), and the topic of the current page is actually Guinea-Bissau Creole. The requester cited this reference to support this. There were also some recent IP edits that changed the name of this page from "Upper Guinea Creole" to "Guinea-Bissau Creole". Just an FYI — Andy W. (talk) 04:42, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Andy W.. As for your FYI, I checked the IP's other edits, they are solid, i.e., you can see that he or she knows the subject and is not a pram pusher (for those not familiar with the expression, a pram pusher is someone who goes with the family to a trade show just out of curiosity, nothing else to do, whereas the show is meant for serious people who work in that field). The IP address is in Praia, capital of Cape Verde, on the island of Santiago, of the 10 islands the most studied by linguists, who believe it (the island of Santiago) is the birthplace of the West African Portuguese creoles). Just to balance things on the IP, in one edit the IP introduced the term "Afro-Portuguese", which I have seen is not liked by some editors. But it still shows that he is familiar with the territory. Actually, while the request seems reasonable on the surface, i haven't had the time to check it out, so please don't rely on my judgement. Note that Glottolog calls it "Upper Guinea" creole. That may simply be an inheritance from ISO, which is not reliable, but I'd still like to see some indication that GB creole is an established name in the lit. — kwami (talk) 03:47, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Current name is ambiguous. Proposed name is unambiguous and a recognised name according to the Ethnologue. As this is the recognised national language of Guinea-Bissau, proposed name is a good name for the article. It is perhaps borderline in terms of our conventions, so IAR if necessary.
