This article must adhere to the biographies of living persons (BLP) policy, even if it is not a biography, because it contains material about living persons. Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately from the article and its talk page, especially if potentially libellous. If such material is repeatedly inserted, or if you have other concerns, please report the issue to this noticeboard. If you are a subject of this article, or acting on behalf of one, and you need help, please see this help page. |

The contentious topics procedure applies to this page. This page is related to gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, which has been designated as a contentious topic. Editors are advised to familiarise themselves with the contentious topics procedures before editing this page. |
This article should adhere to the gender identity guideline because it contains material about one or more trans women. Precedence should be given to self-designation as reported in the most up-to-date reliable sources, anywhere in article space, even when it doesn't match what's most common in reliable sources. Any person whose gender might be questioned should be referred to by the pronouns, possessive adjectives, and gendered nouns (for example "man/woman", "waiter/waitress", "chairman/chairwoman") that reflect that person's latest expressed gender self-identification. Some people go by singular they pronouns, which are acceptable for use in articles. This applies in references to any phase of that person's life, unless the subject has indicated a preference otherwise. Former, pre-transition names may only be included if the person was notable while using the name; outside of the main biographical article, such names should only appear once, in a footnote or parentheses. If material violating this guideline is repeatedly inserted, or if there are other related issues, please report the issue to the LGBTQ+ WikiProject, or, in the case of living people, to the BLP noticeboard. |

Gender
[edit]I know this is question is probably going to upset a lot of people, however I feel it is pertinent: Since Tsunami is biologically male, shouldn't the article refer to "him" and "he" instead of "her" and "she"? I know this is a very touchy subject, and I have a couple of close friends who consider themselves "in the wrong body", but that still doesn't change the fact that they are what they are...Just because I dress my cat up to look like a bird doesn't make it a bird... Wolf 63.76.209.49 (talk) 13:12, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
- Good questions shouldn't be too upsetting. Per the Manual of style we refer to people by their gender expression, In this case there is no doubt the Isis presents herself as female. Some articles have subjects that are notable both prior to and after their transitioning. In such cases we use their new gender identity and refer to their former gender only as needed. -- Banjeboi 20:46, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
- I think it's up to the person. If SHE want to be refered as she or her, that's how it'll be. Respect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.229.197.60 (talk) 20:41, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
- Well, she's transitioned from male to female, so her gender is legally female as the United States (as far as I know) recognises gender transition. So, whether or not she is "really" male or female is moot, because she is legally female. Quite apart from respect, it's the law. 86.27.189.195 (talk) 19:07, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Alathaea
Birth Name
[edit]http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/entertainment/2008197888_webtvtopmodel23.html?syndication=rss
Isn't her birth name Darrell Walls? Why does this page list Isis King as her birth name? Shouldn't this be corrected? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.107.0.73 (talk) 20:32, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- It needs to be updated and moved, that article has a lot of material that should be worked in so it will take a little time, I'll try to address it tonight/tomorrow. -- Banjeboi 03:18, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
New source
[edit]A new twist for 'America's Next Top Model Great bio material here and a change of name documentation as well. -- Banjeboi 03:17, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
"Fashion designer"
[edit]First, nobody's talking about "reworking the sentence" (not that that would be so huge a task that it would be better not to improve the article at all). It's cutting out two words because they don't make sense. After introducing her as a "fashion designer," the rest of the article literally does not mention her doing any kind of fashion design.
Even taking into account the new source above (which is not cited in the article), there's no evidence that she's designed professionally or received any notable attention as a designer. She wants to be a designer, and she designed some stuff for her friends and for herself, but that has nothing to do with why she is notable enough for a Wikipedia article. If a famous actress mentions in an interview that she likes to play basketball on the weekends, it doesn't call for editing her Wikipedia article to begin, "Soandso is a basketball player and actress."
I have absolutely no issue with mentioning her interests and experience as a designer in the article, I just think it's totally nonsensical to introduce her as a designer when that's not at all what she's famous for. Propaniac (talk) 13:34, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry for being absent so long. I'm glad most of what was there remains. The prominance, IMHO, is the main issue but fashion designer should remain in some form as she is an expert on herself and has mentioned this several times. The re is also no need to show her designs are notable as the article already exists. As things progress, the designing aspect can be reworked as needed. I am still a bit overloaded and waaaay behind on my watchlist but did want to reply to your point. If you need anything sooner feel free to ping my talkpage as well. -- Banjeboi 02:32, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Birth date
[edit]Anyone know why birthdate is commented out in the ibox? – ukexpat (talk) 21:53, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- It looks like there's no actual reference for her birthday. I checked the reference, and there's no mention of her birthday at all. All we know is her birth year (1985). SKS2K6 (talk) 22:04, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Place holder image
[edit]I feel the place holder image is pointless on this page. Yes we do need an image, but there are better ways to advertise this fact without adding a placeholder image. For example, tag the talk page with a "needs-photo", which has already been done. Mildly experienced users can search for suitable images with a commons license. Discuss here if you disagree. Thanks! Improving the article
[edit]I plan on making improvements to this article in the coming days. I want to improve of the organization, grammatical, citation, and informative aspects of this article. First, I want to change the table of contents so the order reads, biography, early career, America's Next Top Model, After ANTM, Filmography, Personal Life, and finally Cultural Impact. I think this will create a better flow from each subsection of the article. Next, I plan on bettering the grammar in this article. There are a few times where I feel certain sentences belong in the paragraph below or above them, or just times where there is proper punctuation missing. Then, I will do my best to find sources for all the broken links within the article and properly cite the sentences where it is needed. Finally, I plan on adding more information about King's personal life and aspects of her life outside of ANTM. I plan on doing this by finding more quotes from her when she worked on different sets listed in her Filmography section. I hope this gives a more well rounded look at Isis King.
