Non-free images
[edit]It's impossible to meet all the non-free content criteria in an article like this. Without going through all of them, particularly problematic is #8 "Contextual significance"; Since this is neither a main article for any of the companies nor includes critical commentary of any of the logos, it isn't necessary to display the logos here either for identification of the subject of this article or a visual item of commentary. The image use policy is highly technical, but the most pertinent advice here would be: " It is inadvisable to provide a non-free image for each entry in [a list article] ... images that are used only to visually identify elements in the [list] article should be used as sparingly as possible." (WP:NFLISTS). I see no grounds for using any non-free images in this article, I'm afraid. I have removed them again. Finnusertop (talk | guestbook | contribs) 20:34, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation, WP:NFLISTS does indeed seem relevant to this List. -- Eclipsed (talk) (email) 21:26, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- I went ahead and removed the entire logo column, and added a few free images from commons. -- Eclipsed (talk) (email) 08:32, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks. Some of the logos I had left behind were uploaded with a free license, but in some cases it might be a case of wrong license. Finnusertop (talk | guestbook | contribs) 16:23, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- My opinion is that there's still too many images. Images are supposed to illustrate points made in the article, not decorate it. Currently, none of the images or image captions are related to the companies or a specific company. Finnusertop (talk | guestbook | contribs) 01:17, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Inclusion criteria
[edit]Let's chat about the inclusion criteria for this list.
I propose: "for-profit companies notable within the cryptocurrency industry". For companies that don't have their own articles, at least 2 significant mentions from reliable, independent industry news sources would be acceptable for listing. Still out of scope would be not-for-profit organizations, and individual products.
Cheers. -- 1Wiki8........................... (talk) 09:15, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
- Agreed that this needs to be resolved. In its current form, this list is becoming an advert spam magnet - a linkfarm with no inclusion criteria.
- As to criteria, I don't see why your proposed criteria couldn't be expanded to also cover non-profits or individual products. If any that meet the criteria of having their own article, or has two sources providing in-depth (non-trivial) coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject - then they could be included. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 21:59, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

- @Jordan C: It doesn't have its own Wikipedia article, so it would likely be removed if it were added. And to have a Wikipedia article, Purse would have to meet WP:CORP criteria for inclusion. The first three of those sources you list look OK. The last two don't (one is an interview, which is considered a primary source rather than a more desirable secondary source, and the other is another wiki). Because you're new here, I suggest you try writing an article in draft space (say Draft:Purse (online marketplace) or some similar title), and submit it for review via Wikipedia:Articles for creation. See Wikipedia:Golden rule for a brief overview of what's expected in an article about the company. ~Anachronist (talk) 05:11, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

Hello there,
I would like to request the addition of CoinPayments to the List of Bitcoin Companies. It is a Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency payment processor. Quite possibly the largest in the world operating in the payments space specifically. The company has been in business for over 5 years and was the first altcoin payment processor.
The inclusion could include the following references: https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/wikileaks-store-loses-coinbase-support-still-processing-sales/ https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/coinpayments https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=275313311
I realize you probably get lots of requests like this.
Thank you. Malechimp (talk) 00:54, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
- Not done: CoinPayments is not a company that already has an article and is thus not eligible for inclusion. These references do not establish enough depth of coverage in independent, reliable sources to demonstrate this company is notable enough for inclusion. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 04:46, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
- Well, there's enough assertion of significance in the proposal above to create a stand-alone stub article that wwould survive WP:A7 speedy deletion. But unless sources can be found that provide WP:CORPDEPTH type of coverage, it wouldn't survive WP:AFD. ~Anachronist (talk) 05:13, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 23:40, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
- @AngusWoof: Those sources are much better and thanks for clarifying who added what. I wanted to present the timeline in interests of transparency but my larger point is this: I don't think Coinify (or any non-notable company) should be on the list. While those sources are largely RS they are not the sort of independent secondary sources covering a company in significant detail that WP:NCORP requires and which I'm suggesting should definitely be the basis for inclusion on this list given the way companies in this space attempt to promote themselves. Adding these sources is better than what was there before but the first best solution in my mind is to remove it from the list (and really Wikipedia) as non-notable and in-line with why the community enacted DS in this area. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 00:24, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
- Coinify clearly does not belong in the list. Please see WP:WTAF Retimuko (talk) 02:52, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
- Agree with WTAF / only including companies with their own articles. However, in this case I think the company is notable. In addition to the references provided by AngusWoof (profile in Business Insider, described as "One of Europe’s biggest virtual currency platforms" by Reuters, and as an "industry leader" by IBT), there's also some recent coverage of their January funding round: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/01/05/top-vc-deals-google-chushou-apple-buddybuild-aimotive-coinify.html https://venturebeat.com/2018/01/05/coinify-raises-4-8-million-to-bring-cryptocurrencies-to-retailers/ Λυδαcιτγ 08:06, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
- Not sure it passes WP:CORP notability to have its own article ... but creating such an article and having it survive would be the first step before going on this list - for the crypto sphere, requiring entries to have their own article is an excellent idea for spam control - David Gerard (talk) 11:53, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
- I will go a step farther and suggest it doesn't pass WP:NCORP. I do agree with David that it having its own article is the right first step to it being on this list, but its lack of qualifications to have an article is why I went the deletion route in the first place. Remembering that NCORP requires all five of (1)multiple (2)independent (3)secondary (4)reliable sources that discuss the company with (5)significant coverage for a company to be considered notable. None of the sources yet presented (or others that I found while doing a BEFORE) really meet all five points. The Reuters article isn't significantly about Coinify (and might not even be significant about Danish production aid its actual topic), the BI is an interview and thus not independent, the IB Times is a source that I'm not sure is RS in many circumstances but even if it is this RS it does not appear to be independent it appears to be a rehashed press release, and finally funding announcements are generally considered ROUTINE and thus not significant. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 15:05, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
- Need consensus if you are planning to update the inclusion criteria from the two reliable sources as stated in the previous thread to "must have its own independent article that passes WP:NCORP". Remember that WP:LSC does not require the companies on the list to be notable, unless that's the WP:CSC criteria is agreed to what you are proposing. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 18:24, 7 September 2018 (UTC)
- Agreed we need consensus but I would argue right now there has been no explicit consensus on what the inclusion criteria is. The two editors who agreed to that criteria previously is not a consensus. Instead this page has been operating under the every entry must be notable criteria by default consensus for some period of time now and at least two of us have advocated for that standard in this thread. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 18:28, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

Bitcoin company drafts
[edit]There are quite a few articles in the Draft space for cryptocurrency. Would it be helpful if we added those to the WP so they can be reviewed for notability? I'd hate to spend all that time running AFC on them only to have them be deleted because they aren't notable or because the sources provided are not reliable. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 17:17, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- @AngusWOOF: In theory AfC should only be adding notable companies. I am less concerned about people wasting time here because we know many of them have a COI. Better, I think, to let them give their best effort and then find out that is not enough to get their crypto favorite added to Wikipedia. I do, however, think this is better than in many situations to some G11 tagging in draft space, where appropriate. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 18:45, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- I can add WP cryptocurrency and Draft class to some of the ones that are closer to being considered. They use a lot of different sources so it is hard to tell if they are notable or reliable sources. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 00:39, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

The sources you provided are not acceptable according to the policies and consensus regarding cryptocurrency-related topics. - Not done: Please see inclusion criteria. This list is of notable companies and "notable" means something different here on Wikipedia than it does in normal English usage. In the case of list articles such as this, it means that the company already has an article which is supported by multiple citations to independent, reliable sources. Most bitcoin/cryptocurrency/blockchain sites are not considered reliable by most editors. I hope this helps. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 15:40, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 10 February 2020: Adding the Austrian FinTech Salamantex

https://www.salamantex.com/ Salamantex GmbH is an Austrian fintech company founded in 2018, which specializes in developing payment solutions for cryptocurrencies and digital assets. Operating since the end of 2018, Salamantex offers six different cryptocurrencies (Btc, Eth, Xrp, Ltc, Xlm, Dash) as payment option as of this writing and is further pursuing partnerships with vital European players of the traditional payment industries like Ingenico (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingenico), Concardis and A1 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A1_Telekom_Austria_Group), promoting the mass adoption of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. Therefore I believe Salamantex would suit to be added to this list of Bitcoin companies.
