(men's or women's)
[edit]Is it just me, or is the inclusion of "men's as well as women's" and such in this article inhrently sexist? If she's the winningnest coach in NCAA div I sports of all time or whatever... just say that!
- fixed it 75.90.146.184 (talk) 04:19, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- The current statement is qualified with "head coach" and "NCAA", but that allows all sports, and all divisions within basketball. Given Graf 1000 victories, Carol Hutchins, one of five coaches in Division I history to reach 1,000 wins and Gene Bess, some further qualifiers are needed. Can someone with knowledge of the verifiable situation edit appropriately? (It's an incredibly impressive accomplishment, but it ought to be stated correctly.)--SPhilbrickT 21:40, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- No one else stepped - I'm editing to change to D1 Basketball. I think it hasn't happened in D2 or D3, but it has happened in Juco, so unless someone wants more precise wording, I'm going with D1 Basketball.--SPhilbrickT 22:31, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

You should NOT be comparing Men's and Women's coaches. The stats in women's basketball is inflated compared to men's due to the lack of competition. Women's basketball did not become big until recently. Until then you have only had a few teams, namely Tennessee, that have ruled the roost. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.177.225.140 (talk) 06:15, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
stats are wrong
[edit]these stats are just all wrong. they seem to be off by a year or something. but it is more then that i suggest that you change the years to be listed as '96-97' season to reduce confusion. but also the championships were 87,89,91,96,97,98. in 98 they went 39-0 and that was their last nationalchampionship until 2007. the 10 loss championship was the middle championship in the 3 peat not the first. I think that a new source should looked into to correct these stats. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 192.5.88.2 (talk) 15:02, 12 April 2007 (UTC).

Pat Summitt a pioneer for women
[edit]A Standard Examiner 04/23/2012 article about Pat Summit - is there anything that can be added to the article: http://www.standard.net/stories/2012/04/23/pat-summitt-pioneer-women Ottawahitech (talk) 16:08, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Graduation rate
[edit]In the coverage of the recent passing of Dean Smith, UNC's record-setting NCAA coach, there are mentions of graduation rate for his players, which I have seen stated variously as 95% to 96.6%. Comparing coaches is much like comparing various types of apples. This particular stat speaks to whether the program requires the student to sacrifice their education for the benefit of the school's fund-raising. Can anyone come up with a number? (He had also a particular rep for a 'clean' program. There are various ways to 'win.' ) Rags (talk) 12:40, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

ITN
[edit]Based on her significance, this article is a shoe-in to be posted on the main page in the "In The News" section, but the "citation needed" tags need to be resolved, first. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:22, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Muboshgu: Just shifted the {{ITN nom}} template back to the talk page - please see the discussion at Template talk:ITN nom, where there is a consensus (indeed, supported by every editor there) that such a note be placed on the talk page of articles, rather than on the main page, given that it's a note much more for editors rather than for readers (and thus should be on the talk page). I'm happy to stand aside here if you can point me to a consensus about the use of this template on main article space, but given the consensus for placing it on the talk page I've moved it back over here. 171.66.209.8 (talk) 19:55, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
I am cleaning up the "citation needed" tags, for now with bare URLs, to meet with the standard for ITN. Would appreciate help formatting the bare URLs. --Crunch (talk) 20:20, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
- "Hats off!" to Crunch for pulling yeoman's duty on a semi-thankless job of dozens of edits to make a high-traffic In The News article a bit more presentable.
- I noticed a stale link or two that needed updating, and added some cite template params to bare links in the busiest section. Saw quite a few "unhelpful" edits the Bots & patrollers overlooked here & there, so will give the whole article a more thorough review for uncited "facts" (e.g., there was an infobox vandal who added a "207" to a string of record wins that a well-meaning patroller "corrected" to "2007" as a mere typo without checking or deleting the uncited addition). — DennisDallas (talk) 00:34, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

1970
[edit]I started playing five on five in 1975-76 freshman year at WSCC and we were Tennessee's Coach Pat Head's practice team. 1980 is incorrect. Coach Head may have started 5 on 5 in 1974 at Tennessee. 24.158.195.230 (talk) 07:32, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
- It's saying high school games played six/six through 1980. It's implied she had to adjust to the 5/5 system in college. Wyliepedia @ 08:26, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
