Problems with a reference

[edit]

The Jilly Cooper reference cited doesn't appear to exist. I have searched the Daily Mail archives under Jilly Cooper and there is no such article for 1 Jan 2011. The blue link in the reference links to her Wikipedia articlem, which isn't allowed under wiki rules. What gives? How did this get to be on the front page with bad references?

Also, the British name for the breed is Alsatian, so that should be used in the text, with a link to German Shepherd dog.81.129.134.82 (talk) 10:52, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • The Jilly Cooper reference issue is a simple typo; per [1], it's 2001, not 2011. Noob that I am, I'm not sure if linking to a highbeam reprint of an article is kosher or not, so I left it out. If someone knows it's OK, please add it. --Floquenbeam (talk) 11:23, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for that - I'd got it from the Mail archives myself and had typo'ed the date. Per the Alsatian thing, the British name during that period was Alsatian, but the modern breed title is German Shepherd Dog and has been since the 1970s (although in my experience it didn't catch back on again till the 90s). Rank

[edit]

The handler is listed as a corporal in the first ref and lance-corporal in the second. I had a quick search but couldn't see any other reputable sources. I'd be inclined to go with the second, coming as it does from the citation on the PDSA website, awarders of the medal? Dalliance (talk) 12:15, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
