DYK nomination of Festival of Monkey King (God), China

[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Festival of Monkey King (God), China at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Odie5533 (talk) 05:39, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

  • I started work on the suggestions. I renamed the article to Monkey King Festival per DYK nom page suggestion. I've c/e it down to 3892 ch, but additional sentences and sources should be removed. Can you please look at that? Also please let me know if there's anything more I should do. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:53, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Short answer: no. Long answer: here's how I review a website for reliability. First, I go to its main url, i.e. http://www.southlaostour.com/ (in this case), and scroll to the bottom of the page to see who is the "Publisher". Usually, there's a person's name, or school, company, organization (I use this info to fill in the "Publisher" field in the citation). This website doesn't disclose who's the publisher -- at least not in this spot. Instead, the publisher wrote:

Thailand Highlight Travel Information
Thailand Travel Guide Tour information to Highlgihts and Attraction all Destination Thailand
Thailand Hotels Booking Online Find to Thailand Hotels Thailand Resort Online
Booking offer to Cheap Hotels Resorts by Booking Online Systems, Discount Hotel and Resort Thailand to all Destination in Thailand.

So here's what I've deduced: this is a travel website; there is at least one typo (what other mistakes might there be... ?); they hope that whatever they wrote on their website will lead you to accept their "Booking offer to Cheap Hotels Resorts by Booking Online". Second, I check if there's a link for "About us" or "History", which can also provide clarification on who's the publisher (I couldn't do that in this case). --Rosiestep (talk) 17:45, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Re Jagannath

[edit]

Thanks for the edit.Only 1 topic is left unreferenced Jagannath#Transformation from unitary icon to triad . I ll get to that shortly. I had a look at tulsi article , its come up well. A suggestion : the article Shaligram is pathetic and needs urgent attention. It appears to have been copied largely from one of the sites that sell shaligrams. Unfortunately most people do not know what a shaligram is . Sidsahu (talk) 09:53, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

In that case we must ask Redtigerxyz to do shaligram.BTW how does one identify a stone in the Kali Gandaki river as a shaligram? Sidsahu (talk) 10:12, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Can you please continue with other DYK articles till then. Will complete Tulsi then go to Vishvarupa. Vimala temple

[edit]

I found a Book on Tantric Art in Orissa[1] Lots of material on Vimala temple, if you want to add.

If you are familiar with Vaishnav saints Ramanujacharya, Nimbaraka , Ramananda can you add a section on their interaction with Jagannath cult in the Jagannath article in Jagannath#Jagannath in Vaishnavism Sidsahu (talk) 04:55, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

I have added a bit on Ramanuja and Nimbaraka. You can have a look at your convenience, but it can do with a little insight from the follower of Ramanujacharya.Anotehr article that may interst you is the Alarnatha Mandira in Orissa associated with memory of Ramanuja said to be derived from the name Alvarnath. I will start off on the Pancha Tirthas of Puri a little later as I am in a the thick of Jagannath now. Sidsahu (talk) 06:19, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Cleanup of Jagannath completed

[edit]

I have completed cleanup and referencing. Covered Vaishnav, shakta and Sikh tradition. Please do have a look and offer ur valuable suggestions. Hope to nominate it for GA status soon. Sidsahu (talk) 12:01, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Not interested in Anantashayana Vishnu addition (you can take it to DYK, without me). Will just copyedit it. --Redtigerxyz Talk 18:24, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
Done with Tulsi for now. IMO Tulsi can be expanded more to GA and even FA level. Lot of sources of information. Let me know if you want to take it further than DYK. --Redtigerxyz Talk 19:11, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

Re Gundicha

[edit]

The first ref is irrelevant it mentions a different gundicha in a different place. Added ref 3. trying to figure out where to add ref 2 and 4 Is gundicha temple expanded enough to nominate for DYK ? Sidsahu (talk) 14:54, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

The first ref: 2nd para talks about Ratha yatra and Narasimha being the patron as in our Gundicha. --Redtigerxyz Talk 17:37, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Re anantasayanam Vishnu

[edit]

suggestion for hook: why dont you shorten it to: that Anantashayana Vishnu (pictured) is the largest exposed horizontal rock cut statue in India?

2

[edit]
  • have started Pancha Tirtha of Puri, the list is a little contreversial, please have a look
  • can you specify which references need looking into in Jagannath, i ll get to it
  • which words do you need translated in Gundicha temple

Sidsahu (talk) 17:09, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

3

[edit]

Gundicha temple looks good, i think it is big enough now to nominate for DYK. I thought of the hook:

Sankirtan is the kirtan movement where god's name is chanted [Hare Krishna]]started by Chaitanya mahaprabhu Sidsahu (talk) 15:03, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

  1. P.S

Added link to sankirtan and from the context candana fesstival is Chandan Yatra, that link has been added too to Gundicha temple. Manikotha is a place i didnt figure out either. Sidsahu (talk) 07:03, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Sidsahu (talk) 16:14, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

The hook reads much better now. Sidsahu (talk) 03:25, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

Nvvchar, I am almost done with the Gundicha as you suggested, but it seems that it already nominated for DYK. If both authors are OK, I would suggest another hook and add me in the DYK. IMO, the current hook will not be understood by non-Hindus. ALT: ... the Hindu god Jagannath journeys (pictured) to his Summer Garden Retreat every year for a 9-day vacation? • Will take a look at Dattatreya Jayanti. Have to add Datta Navatra in that. (that's in Magha
  • Then Maricha: Most of the info is there. Will check
  • Kaurwaki: can't find any thing for 5x
  • Vishnu Chaturdashi: I think you mean Vaikuntha Chaturdashi.
  • Talking about this form of Vishnu: Commons:Category:Vaikuntha chaturmukha, which is also known as Vaikuntha Vishnu/Vaikuntha Chaturmukh/Chaturmurti/Vaikunthanatha. --Redtigerxyz Talk 09:59, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
  • Ranganatha: This form of Vishnu is specifically the one worshipped in Srirangam. Not much to write. [4]. I will suggest: let's create Sheshasayi/Anantsayi Vishnu on the iconographic form of the sleeping Vishnu.--Redtigerxyz Talk 10:42, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Modified Anantashyana. It meets 5x. For Maricha, one added infobox on 11th, which did not increase prose. Main addition started on 12th. There are some inaccuracies in Maricha like Sumali = Subahu (both different), three (only 2) encounters with Rama. Will change and nominate it tomorrow. --Redtigerxyz Talk 18:55, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

--Redtigerxyz Talk 15:28, 16 December 2012 (UTC) Twofold expansion applies only for biographies. Anant Chaturdashi is too long for 5x. Matsya (had started on it User:Redtigerxyz/Vishnu a long time ago and forgot about it) and Varaha are good candidates. --Redtigerxyz Talk 18:21, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

What is the point of creating Ananta Chawdash when Anant Chaturdashi exists and we know it. If you like, you can expand the article without DYK and may be take it to GA, if possible. --Redtigerxyz Talk 17:35, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Monastery of the Holy Trinity, Meteora - good job. I'll work on it myself today. Christmas time

[edit]

Nvv, why the rush to nominate Saleh mosque? I don't think you realize that most of us are busy at Christmas. Family to see, other interests which take up much time. Allow us time to expand the articles you mentioned!!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 12:50, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

You expanded it on 24 December. Today is the 28th. I've just given it a major copyedit, labelling the president "narcissistic" is POV, even if true! you should have known that. Citation needed for strong claim.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 13:06, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Cunningham

[edit]

Thanks for finding John Cunningham (climber). I merged it into John Crabbe Cunningham. Now it needs a good c/e which I'll do either tonight or tomorrow morning. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:59, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

  • Still expanding it, but almost done. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:15, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
Nommed Great Mosque of Sana'a and Mount Sage National Park, crediting Rosie too. Should give her a few days to get around to Mount Sage. We have a lot of articles to get through Nvv, everybody else slows down with the work at Christmas, you increase it above normal LOL.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 13:56, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Completed my edits to Great Mosque of Sana'a and Mount Sage National Park and Kulap. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:24, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Couldn't find much on the Antarctica articles, although I made a map of South Georgia. Will look at Kulap shortly. You might be interested in making the initial expansion of Pambamarca.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 17:42, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Couldn't help myself... jump started Pambamarca. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:17, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Nvv can you not use the phrase "are not in vogue" or of xxx years "vintage". Both words stand out as inappropriate in an encyclopedic context, vogue in particular is a hideous word which springs to mind catwalk shows of super skinny models in ghastly makeup in Paris. Confused at source 2 "Kulaps" isn't a credible source.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 17:49, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Trust me, the words are very dated today! Vogue has become closely associated with the fashion industry, and vintage is usually used to describe retro clothing, cars or other items and of course wines. Saying a building or locale is of xx years vintage and some custom not in vogue in a foreign country is definitely dated, but understandable if its still well used in Indian english. Google vogue and you'll see what I mean about it being more a fashion term now. Hope you feel better soon. Great job on Pambamarca Rosie and Nari! ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:33, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Have a great 2013 Nari! Yes Pambamarca needs photos, beautiful place!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 11:37, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

You sure the archaeological site is on the mountain? Spanish wiki says it is in Peru]?♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:56, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
