Illegals program
Thank you for redirecting 2010 Russian spy arrests in the United States instead of deleting. I tried to find the article and could not so I recreated it. I think most people will not remember the name "Illegals Program" but there is a chance they may type "2010 Russian spy" and get my title. I do not disagree with removing my edits but I think your solution of a redirect is best! RIPGC (talk) 02:02, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
- No problem. It was better to redirect than to delete. Alansohn (talk) 02:03, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

The article Stanley Wagner (vintner) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Article doesn't seem to meet criterion for inclusion in WP:BIO. Obituary references are not appropriate coverage. Also, we have an official policy saying Wikipedia is not a memorial site.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ~Amatulić (talk) 16:51, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

I think the NYTimes article references("Col. HARRISON DOODGE, MT. VERNON CUSTODIAN...") in the 'DYK?' at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Did_you_know#Articles_created.2Fexpanded_on_July_25 is in error, but I am unable to check the original article at the moment. Since the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association owns and runs the Mount Vernon Estate, I am not sure that the President of the United States would be appointing the resident supervisor. I think the article meant to say that Mr. Dodge was selected by the Ladies' Association to be supervisor and was also appointed as Postmaster (for the Mount Vernon post office) by President Cleveland (and succeeding Presidents). According to http://www.mountvernon.org/mountvernon/index.cfm/...
- "the Association does not accept grants from federal, state or local governments and no tax dollars are expended to support its purposes."
I am unsure as to who appointed the resident supervisor during Mr. Dodge's tenure, but will attempt to verify that fact within the next few days.
- Shearonink (talk) 04:23, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- I will research this myself, but the details of the appointment were taken straight from the source. Alansohn (talk) 04:34, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- Oh I understand that, but occasionally even the New York Times could get things wrong... Shearonink (talk) 04:54, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- I will research this myself, but the details of the appointment were taken straight from the source. Alansohn (talk) 04:34, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- Update I have found at least one source for who appointed Mr. Dodge as Resident Supervisor. Please consult: Genealogy of the Dodge Family of Essex County, Mass. 1629-1894, Page 213, paying special attention to Harrison Howell's entry.
- "appointed in 1885, by the lady regents, resident secretary and superintendent of Mount Vernon".
- I'll do some further research to see if I can find more sources on how the Resident Supervisor was selected and how the Postmaster was selected during Mr. Dodge's time there.
- Shearonink (talk) 04:54, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update, which better explains the details of his appointment, and includes further biographical details. Alansohn (talk) 04:58, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- I have made extensive changes based on this additional source, both to the article and to the DYK hook. Thanks again for pointing out the error and the source. Alansohn (talk) 13:12, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update, which better explains the details of his appointment, and includes further biographical details. Alansohn (talk) 04:58, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
