WikiCup 2020 July newsletter

[edit]

The third round of the 2020 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it into the fourth round each had at least 353 points (compared to 68 in 2019). It was a highly competitive round, and a number of contestants were eliminated who would have moved on in earlier years. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, with one featured article, 28 good articles and 17 DYKs, amassing 1836 points
  • Botswana The Rambling Man , with 1672 points gained from four featured articles and seventeen good articles, plus reviews of a large number of FACs and GAs
  • England Gog the Mild, a first time contestant, with 1540 points, a tally built largely on 4 featured articles and related bonus points.

Between them, contestants managed 14 featured articles, 9 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 152 good articles, 136 DYK entries, 55 ITN entries, 65 featured article candidate reviews and 221 good article reviews. Additionally, Denmark MPJ-DK added 3 items to featured topics and 44 to good topics. Over the course of the competition, contestants have completed 710 good article reviews, in comparison to 387 good articles submitted for review and promoted. These large numbers are probably linked to a GAN backlog drive in April and May, and the changed patterns of editing during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Notice

The article List of Billboard number-one holiday albums of the 2010s has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

List of number ones on a non-notable chart.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Hey

Just browsed through the list of GANs and noticed that you hold a degree in architecture. Not to be a stalker or anything, but I am contemplating a career in architecture in the future, so would you mind if we get to know each other personally and I have some advice/lessons from you regarding this endeavour? I know this is not at all Wikipedia-related, but the chance of meeting a person with expertise in my intended field on Wikipedia is extremely rare, let alone that person is in his early 20s (I am 20 at the moment). A tag has been placed on Category:No Doubt album track list templates requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! WikiCup 2020 September newsletter

[edit]

The fourth round of the competition has finished, with 865 points being required to qualify for the final round, nearly twice as many points as last year. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants with 598 and 605 points being eliminated, and all but two of the contestants who reached the final round having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were

  • Free Hong Kong Bloom6132, with 1478 points gained mainly from 5 featured lists, 12 DYKs and 63 in the news items;
  • IndonesiaHaEr48 with 1318 points gained mainly from 2 featured articles, 5 good articles and 8 DYKs;
  • England Lee Vilenski with 1201 points mainly gained from 2 featured articles and 10 good articles.

Between them, contestants achieved 14 featured articles, 14 featured lists, 2 featured pictures, 87 good articles, 90 DYK entries, 75 ITN entries, 95 featured article candidate reviews and 81 good article reviews. Congratulations to all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! WikiCup 2020 November newsletter

[edit]

The 2020 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round going down to the wire. Our new Champion is England Lee Vilenski (submissions), the runner-up last year, who was closely followed by England Gog the Mild (submissions). In the final round, Lee achieved 4 FAs and 30 GAs, mostly on cue sport topics, while Gog achieved 3 FAs and 15 GAs, mostly on important battles and wars, which earned him a high number of bonus points. Botswana The Rambling Man (submissions) was in third place with 4 FAs and 8 GAs on football topics, with New York (state) Epicgenius (submissions) close behind with 19 GAs and 16 DYK's, his interest being the buildings of New York.

The other finalists were Gondor Hog Farm (submissions), Indonesia HaEr48 (submissions), Somerset Harrias (submissions) and Free Hong Kong Bloom6132 (submissions). The final round was very productive, and besides 15 FAs, contestants achieved 75 FAC reviews, 88 GAs and 108 GAN reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2021 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! I will have the review wrapped up by tonight or tomorrow. --K. Peake 17:03, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Kyle Peake – Hello Kyle. Yes, I agree that my replies have been unnecessarily long in the past and I apologize for not always being timely. I assure you that I will respond to your GA review comments in a more reasonable fashion this time around. Thanks for picking it up to review. Happy holidays, Carbrera (talk) 17:16, 3 December 2020 (UTC).[reply]
It is fine and I do accept your apology, though the response times were not really an issue in the past I just thought it would be cool to make the song a GA as earlier as possible so it's safely done before Christmas. --K. Peake 17:41, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Carbrera! I am truthfully sorry for the mess that I nominated for a GA award that was the "How Do You Know?" article. I created the article during a conflict of interest I had with the song's subject and it was also one of my first Wikipedia articles I really worked on (which was a long time ago) and yes I did try to add falsified chart positions as it was something I would use to give the article more sources which I have learned to not do anymore. Moving on, I actually would like for you to review an article I have recently did which is The Way It Is (Keyshia Cole album). I have been working on it for almost the entire year now and I can assure you that I have made sure the article was as GA-worthy as it could be and I even removed the sources I found unreliable. Please review it now and I hope you like this one! Tease Pillar (contributions) • (let's chat) 00:50, December 4, 2020 (UTC)

The article Christmas Eve (Gwen Stefani song) you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Christmas Eve (Gwen Stefani song) for issues which need to be addressed. The article Christmas Eve (Gwen Stefani song) you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Christmas Eve (Gwen Stefani song) for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Hello, Carbrera! I just came to apologize if any of my edits on here were disruptive or anything. I have noticed that you are now reverting a lot of my edits on here which I am okay with as I did not provide any real sources that could prove if the information wasn't false or anything. I take all responsibility for any of my disruptive edits and I hope to move on from it. From now on, if I add anything to an article I promise to make sure the source directly mentions the subject and backs up the information I have added to it. I have also chosen to take a long Wikibreak because after this situation I am starting to feel emotionally drained, my nerves have gotten even more bad and at this point I just really need to take some time off of here to get my thoughts and everything together. I hope that I never get myself into any of these particular situations again because I am not trying to get into anymore situations on here and I would like to continue editing on here. If I return, I will make sure I start adding reliable sources that contain factual information on every article I do. I have made many mistakes and I am now moving forward. Please don't have any negative feelings towards me and I wish you the best of luck on your future editing on Wikipedia including your edits on Gwen Stefani-related articles as I absolutely love her music. Thank you! Tease Pillar (talk) 02:31 6 December 2020 (UTC)

Tease Pillar – I always assume good faith with the edits of my fellow editors, and I truly wanted to help you when I first reviewed a good article nomination for you last week. But when I discover that an editor has a history of purposely damaging the integrity of this encyclopedia, I lose faith that you are here to edit constructively. You originally admitted to only adding false chart positions to one article, but then that number increased to 6 and you insisted that that truly was the end. You are a liar. I have uncovered literally dozens of more of your disruptive edits, even though you downplayed my use of "dozens" the other day. Enjoy your Wikibreak, and come back once you can commit yourself to editing with a positively-impactful mindset. I'll give anyone a second chance, but I have yet to see anything that proves you are here to edit constructively. Carbrera (talk) 02:45, 6 December 2020 (UTC).[reply]
First of all, I did not come here to be disrespectful but I did not come here to be disrespected. Yes I did add false chart data on music-related articles and that was because I was so interested in the subjects that I felt the need to add more and more stuff to it. The fake chart positions was because I thought that everything related to music should have been based on commercial performance now which is extremely wrong. Please do not call me a "liar" as I never denied those claims and I have took full responsibility to my actions. Most of the articles that I have created and improved were for good faith to me and I am now learning what should be added to Wikipedia and what should not be... one of which is false information regarding any charts, reviews, etc or information that is not properly executed nor is backed up with any reliable sources that state that the certain thing was true. You can antagonize me and underestimate me as a WP user all you want and at this point I am just DONE and you know what... I have more better things worth to do than this. I am not going to fight with you or anything because I know my worth on here and I will soon rise and become a better editor and I just came here to try and make amends as a human being but your response seems very harsh and flat-out mean that I think it is clear we cannot work things out and may never over this. Thank you for "uncovering" my other edits on here since I now am gonna remember that as a learning experience and I hoped you feel accomplished from all of this and just like my good sis miss Tamar Braxton said... "get ya life". Thank you and good day! x Tease Pillar (talk) 02:58 6 December 2020 (UTC)

Tease Pillar's fake chart positions

[edit]

Thanks for catching all of those, and the work you've put in to weed the rest of them out. I saw this editor earlier this year, and I even removed a few of their false chart positions myself, but had no idea they were still at it until I saw your edits. The bad Photoshop job of that picture at that Gofile link when the real listing at austriancharts.at shows they've just removed "Ch!pz - The Adventures Of Ch!pz" from number 42 and placed Keyshia Cole's album there but left the record label as "Universal" when The Way It Is wasn't even released on Universal.... yikes. Ss112 05:02, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ss112 – thanks for the message. I was completely unaware of this user's damage when I first interacted with them. They developed a very off-putting 'victim' attitude in their recent edit history so I'm glad their edits won't appear on my radar anymore. This user was exhausting. Carbrera (talk) 15:35, 7 December 2020 (UTC).[reply]
  • Apologies for jumping into this discussion, but I also want to thank you for bringing this up. I have always tried my best to assume good faith with Tease Pillar and have talked with them somewhat often on here, but this was very disruptive behavior that should not be tolerated on Wikipedia. I appreciate that you not only brought it up, but also really following up with it through WP:ANI. You have done a very admirable job with an unfortunately difficult and disappointing situation, and long story short, I just wanted to say that I have a lot of respect of how you handled it. Aoba47 (talk) 06:02, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Aoba47 – no need to apologize! I, too, wanted to believe they were only trying to edit constructively. Thanks for the kind words and happy holidays, Carbrera (talk) 18:23, 13 December 2020 (UTC).[reply]

ARIA Digital Tracks Chart: Week Commencing 24 August, 2020

[edit]

Hi! Can you help me? I'm looking for an ARIA chart (see subject). Can you write the url here, please? Thank you so much, and sorry for disturbing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.32.87.171 (talk) 14:39, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

195.32.87.171 - no need to apologize, you did not disturb me in the slightest. Unfortunately, it seems that ARIA discontinued publishing their Digital Tracks chart sometime during the spring/summer months of this year, and before August for sure. I'm afraid there is no chart for the week you requested. Carbrera (talk) 18:47, 18 December 2020 (UTC).[reply]
Thank you for answer. Do you know where I can find the ARIA Report Issue #1590? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.32.87.171 (talk) 11:32, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

195.32.87.171 – I don't. I would try the Wayback Machine. Carbrera (talk) 20:21, 27 December 2020 (UTC).[reply]
