Unattached account
What to do if there is an unattached account (not SUL) like #97475? --Tito Dutta (contact) 17:13, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
- Looking.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 17:19, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, IRC is a better choice to communicate for future reference as it allows for unrestricted discussions. As for the request, if the unattached account(s), have made 0 edits on that local wikipedia, is greater than a year old, AND has no SUL, it can be created. If it fails any of the three (some discretion allowed on the second one), it should be declined as taken and if the SUL exists, it should be declined as SUL Taken. In this case it can be created, and I have done so for you.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 17:26, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
- I went to IRC, got no reply (most probably everyone was busy in other windows! )! --Tito Dutta (contact) 17:34, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Cyberbot I making file description pages of deleted files
Hi. Cyberbot I continues to make file description pages of deleted files. For example: File:Tunneling 2013-04-07 13-58.jpg. Can you fix this, please? --MZMcBride (talk) 12:21, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- 1) That image shouldn't be on the bad image list and 2) yes I can, but not now.—cyberpower ChatOnline 12:23, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure why you feel qualified to assess whether that image should be on the bad image list.
- It looks like the issue with your bot was brought up in July 2012. Given that's been about nine months without a fix, I've gone ahead and disabled this task. Please do not re-enable this task until this issue is fixed. --MZMcBride (talk) 21:55, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- I'm saying deleted images shouldn't be on the list.—cyberpower ChatOnline 22:08, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- Deleted images are regularly removed from the list by User:ListManBot. However, because the description pages are being recreated by Cyberbot, the images aren't getting removed (since technically, they aren't deleted). It took a salt just to get the bot to stop recreating File:Defäkation.jpg so that ListManBot had time to remove it from the list. It would also be helpful if you could get a list of files which have been recreated by Cyberbot so that they can be deleted and removed from the list. - Kingpin13 (talk) 22:21, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

- Won't adding the &nocreate parameter fix this? Legoktm (talk) 22:29, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- No. Because some files may be on a shared repository which means the actual page doesn't exist locally and the bot has to create it to tag it.—cyberpower ChatOnline 22:30, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Bots
Thank you, although it would appear only chartstats.com is down - chartarchive.org is currently running. By the way, are you aware that your current signature links to user:c678 instead of user:cyberpower678?--Launchballer 02:49, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, as Kww points out, both sites are unacceptable as it is a copyvio. They will both need to be redirected to OCC. To answer your question, yes I am aware. It's to save on my sig length.—cyberpower ChatOnline 02:53, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, so what are we going to do about the songs that the archive doesn't cover (for no week does it display the full #100; Get Over It (MC Kinky song) made #95, for example)?--Launchballer 02:57, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know. The request was to initially relink chart archive to chart stat which is redirecting back to chart archive. Since this site is a copyvio, it needs to be redirected to OCC which has the rights to the information. I've been working on this bot script for quite some time trying to figure how to handle each type of URL. I'll think of something before I deploy the script.—cyberpower ChatOffline 03:02, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Bot scripts
I have noticed its edits on my watchlist.--Launchballer 08:09, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Your bot does something wrong
As it seems, your bot User:Cyberbot II is doing some things wrong.
1.) He replaces the links from chartarchive.org with these from officialcharts.com, but due to his work, many links are broken now with chart positions over 75 not being available on the website of the OCC. Examples: DJ Manian, Black Sabbath discography, Everybody Hurts, Who Wants to Be Alone (all not possbile to fix). The bot should mark them as dead instead of replacing them because the given information is not accessible on the OCC site.
- I didn't know that that information wasn't available. The OCC has been very aggressive about that site. It is also mentioned by someone else that under no circumstance should we be linking to sites that breach another companies claim on information like that. That said they had to be moved. I'm not expert at which songs made top 75 and which one's fell out so I can't fix it myself. The best way to fix it would be to simply undo and correct the edit by Cyberbot II if it did indeed change a link that was below the top 75. I tried my best to make sure Cyberbot did it's job correctly by verifying a lot of edits, but I couldn't check all of them, so I will need help to check the ones that do need fixing.—cyberpower ChatOnline 11:45, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- The OCC website provides information until chart position 75 as an accessible archive, and until position 100 if you archive the current chart site at webcitation.org or such a site. The chartarchive site listed also these positions from 76 to 100. So I will have to check all the bot edits... Will cost me a huge amount of time, but what do I not do for Wikipedia? ;) --Ali1610 (talk) 11:59, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Well don't kill yourself over it. I'll be glad to help with some cleanup. The script was only meant to be run once. :-)—cyberpower ChatOnline 12:01, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- If you want to help, you sure can. There are six different kinds of links that have to be fixed:
- 1.) The link is a normal reference in the text and the chart position is #75 or less: it is not necessary to change anything
- 2.) The link is a normal reference in the text and the chart position is higher than #75, the chart entry was January 1994 or later: make a list, I will search possible new references later
- 3.) The link is a normal reference in the text and the chart position is higher than #75, the chart entry was earlier than January 1994: a {{cn|date=May 2013}} has to be inserted instead of the link, there is no other source available
- 4.) The link is part of a charttable (for example Who's Crying Now) and the chart position is #75 or less: Use the following chart template instead of the whole chart entry: {{singlechart|UKsinglesbyname|(peak position)|artist=(artist name, if more than one, only the main artist)|accessdate=2013-05-06}} (example: here)
- 5.) The link is part of a charttable and the chart position is higher than #75, the chart entry was January 1994 or later: see 2.)
- 6.) The link is part of a charttable and the chart position is higher than #75, the chart entry was earlier than January 1994: see 3.)
- I hope that did not confuse you... --Ali1610 (talk) 13:15, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, that did. I'm quite clueless right now.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 13:18, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Just tell me what exactly you did not understand.. or is it the differences between the six cases? Maybe you want to make only one of these ones? --Ali1610 (talk) 13:41, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- The link being part of a chart table.—cyberpower ChatOnline 13:59, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, so please go on Who's Crying Now and then to the Chart section. As you can see there is a table. in the left column there is the chart where the song has charted and on the right there is the highest chart position of the song. Look at the edit page of this site to see that there are charts inserted without any template and one by using the template Template:Singlechart. Ths template for a chart position 75 or less can be created with the following code, which then replaces the insertion without a link for this country:
- {{singlechart|UKsinglesbyname|(peak position)|artist=(artist name)|accessdate=2013-05-06}}
- The fields with brackets around have to be replaced with the things inside these brackets, so instead of (peak position) you insert at this field the highest chart position the track gained (this should have stood there before, of course), and you also have to replace the artist name. If there are more than one artists who were part of the song, only the main artist has to be inserted. Any questions? --Ali1610 (talk) 14:16, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

2.) Why the bot is replacing these links in general? The site owner removed all information that was criticized by the OCC (as said by the owner), and the information that is available there at the moment is still useful because it contains chart positions that are difficult to find anywhere else! I see no reason to replace these links as the copyright violation seems to be resolved. --Ali1610 (talk) 10:31, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- They are still a copyright violation. The whole site is. It's still using information from OCC's database. And my above response clarifies that statement. It was also made in a bot request by the owner I believe.—cyberpower ChatOnline 11:44, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- I cannot judge that... But you are right, maybe better to remove these links as if the OCC would convict Wikipedia for not doing it. --Ali1610 (talk) 11:59, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Cyberbot II: yes, the article was protected
Here, your bot removed the Pending Changes template with an edit summary stating "article is not protected". Yes, it was; in fact it had just been semiprotected; it's not really any help that the bot removes the PC template without putting in the semi padlock icon. On the contrary, it gave me an edit conflict as I was trying (quite speedily, really) to exchange the PC template for the semi template, which was the full action that needed doing. Of course that wasn't a big problem, but I can think of smoother ways of doing it. If the bot can't perform both actions at once (removing one template, adding another), it would perhaps make sense to program it to give the protecting admin five minutes or so to fix the templates themselves? Bishonen | talk 23:13, 9 May 2013 (UTC).
- Cyberbot II is only designed to look at PC protection and nothing else. It removes it the moment it's no longer protected, and adds it the moment it's protected, and it cannot detect if the protection is changed, just whether it's PC protected or not.—cyberpower ChatOnline 03:14, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
- Well, in that case it would surely make sense to have the bot wait five minutes to give the un-PCing admin a chance to fix the templates themselves and avoid edit conflicts. Don't you think so? The combination of removing PC with installing semiprotection is surely more common than the mere removal of PC on its own. Bishonen | talk 04:47, 12 May 2013 (UTC).
- Strange. I never got pinged when you responded. Anyway, I think a person doesn't need 5 minutes to change a template. Considering it runs every minute I could add a 45 second sleep timer. That should be sufficient time to fix the template, as you now have 45-105 seconds to make the change. Although, why not just use Twinkle to simply tag it and let Cyberbot II remove the PC tag?—cyberpower ChatOffline 03:06, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- Cyberpower, you're a template kid, and a code kid altogether, you know. Some admins need to look up what template to use, preview to see that it produces the right kind of little padlock, and think the whole deal through some before hesitantly hitting Save. As for Twinkle and simply tag it, don't even go there. I know that your kind of people and mine don't understand each other well, but I assure you that mine exist. I may actually have been a little optimistic in suggesting five minutes, because currently at least, my browser performs all these operations rather slowly. ;-) Bishonen | talk 10:05, 13 May 2013 (UTC).
- Cyberpower, I do think that Cyberbot II performs a useful function and perfectly fits the case where PC is changed to "no protection". I think though that a bot would be useful that also dealt with the case where PC is changed to semi-prot, as this is far from an unusual event. Since Wikipedia is a collaborative project, it is important that we remain very sensitive to other editors' skills and knowledge and appreciate that many editors - especially some of our clueful admins - bring huge value to the encyclopedia without having more than a rudimentary grasp of technical issues. The onus therefore always falls on those such as yourself to adapt the technology to cope with the whole spectrum of skill-sets that exists among our community. It really isn't helpful to tell a very long-term editor and admin that you think a person doesn't need 5 minutes to change a template. The best of our programmers will be asking those editors how long it takes them to change a template, not promoting their own guesswork above actual research. I'm sorry if that comes across as unduly critical; I don't mean to be harsh, but one common criticism of the technical community is that it is remote from the rest of the project, and I'm very sensitive when that impression seems to be reinforced. The long term technical solution is obviously to have a bot that deals with both PC->NP and PC->SP, but I'm sure the community is grateful for Cyberbot II; any steps you can take to improve it would clearly be appreciated. --RexxS (talk) 14:18, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Yet another additional adminstats field
Hello, could you also add page imports to the admin stats? This feature has been around for a while, and I'm almost definitely the person who uses it the most, but I didn't see the point of adding it until Hut 8.5's active admin stats came out, as it gave an inaccurate value for the number of admin actions I've done. Also, is it worth updating this page about bugs/feature requests for the tool? It says to go on JIRA; I tried that yesterday but It didn't work. Thanks! Graham87 07:21, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

PC tagging of redirects
Hey there! Please see this edit where the bot added the white padlock. Because it was a redirect, as soon as there's something on the page before the redirect, the site immediately treats the hash symbol as the start of the list. For this one, I've added the {nobots} tag, but longer term can the bot just skip redirects that have Pending changes, because the lock really isn't needed. Alternatively, can it add the padlock to the bottom of a redirect rather than the top. Thanks ! (PS, I love the bot's work!) GedUK 11:23, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Delay before tagging protected pages
Hi Cyberpower. :) Hope you're doing ok. I have a request for you - could you implement a delay before Cyberbot II tags pages with {{pp-pc1}}? The speed at which the bot tags the pages is very impressive, but it is confusing some of our human contributors. Human errors, when combined with the fast reaction time of the bot, are leading to unnecessary edits on a few pages.
Looking through the bot's last 50 contribs, I can spot six articles where the bot has made unnecessary edits. Five of them were due to the {{pp-pc1}} template was removed by vandalism or by simple error.[3][4][5][6][7] In these cases Cyberbot II then re-tagged the pages, but in their broken/vandalised state. This adds an extra edit when all that is needed is to simply revert, and also has the added downside of getting in the way of humans who want to revert the edits. In two of the five cases I linked to above, editors reverted Cyberbot II thinking they were actually reverting a vandal edit. I think the prize has to go to the Gregor Mendel article edits, where the bot started edit-warring with the reverter, and somehow the page ended up with two {{pp-pc1}} templates. :) The sixth article was this one where I realised that I altered the protection settings of a page and realised that I had left pending changes on by mistake. This led to the bot having to revert itself.
All of Cyberbot II's edits to these articles could have been avoided with a slight delay between the edit requiring action and the bot edit. Of the articles listed above, the one with the slowest human reaction time (the time between the vandalism/mistake edit and the revert) was the Library article, which took five minutes. So the time to wait definitely needs to be more than five minutes. I suggest 20 minutes, as most reverts of obvious vandalism will have been done by then, and I don't think many people will mind waiting 20 minutes before the pages are tagged. Sooo... would this be hard to implement? It would be a very useful feature for admins and for recent change patrollers. — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 14:04, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

- If it's only five minutes then it might have still caused the same mistake at the Library article. And looking back a little further I see that the reaction time was 8 minutes at Federal Reserve System. Would you be able to stomach a 10-minute wait? This would have caught all of the unnecessary edits made in the last week (apart from this one which we shouldn't worry about), so it's probably a good ballpark figure. — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 14:46, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Here are the links that I was using for X!'s Edit Counter on Toolserver: en.wp Commons Meta and when Toolserver is in a good mood, these work fine. Here are the equivalents on WMFLabs: en.wp Commons Meta. The problems are: (i) the first two WMFLabs ones don't count deleted edits, so the "Total edits (including deleted)" item is too low - this is a known problem, but I wondered if there was any progress on it; (ii) The third WMFLabs one, for Meta, throws a number of errors, which I think come from mysql. Thanks. --Redrose64 (talk) 13:29, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
- That's because it's an IRC link. If you don't have a client, use the connect link.—cyberpower ChatOffline 12:54, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
- I can't open that link. It pops up a window asking me to choose an application. Something about "mibbit", which I've never heard of. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:50, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
- Is there a reason why it doesn't show the number of deleted edits now? Armbrust The Homunculus 16:13, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- Please read this section first before asking. :/—cyberpower ChatOffline 16:49, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
