Welcome to Wikipedia from Island Monkey[edit]

Hi, Glemmens1940. I welcome you to Wikipedia! Thank you for all of your edits. I hope you like editing here and being part of Wikipedia! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); when you save the page, this will turn into your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or put {{helpme}} (and what you need help with) on your talk page and someone will show up very soon to answer your questions. Again, welcome! Island Monkey talk the talk 12:23, 22 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Island Monkey - what a nice welcome ! I did not have that sort of treatment on the Dutch Wikipedia page - rather the opposite ! I am afraid I am colonial Dutch (born in the Dutch East Indies/Indonesia) but came here (Edinburgh) as a student in 1967 and stayed. This means that I do still make spelling mistakes. I also still have to learn the technics of the Wikipedia, things like putting on photographs but that will come given time. With sincere thanks and kind regards Gerard Lemmens Glemmens1940 (talk) 12:37, 22 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You want to know how you do that? Well, you do it like this: [[File:Example.jpg]]. Doing that will come up with this:

However, the best way to display an image is a thumbnail. To do this, you need to place [[File:Example.jpg|thumb|right|Example]]. This will come up as:

Example

Hope this (it will) helps! Island Monkey talk the talk 13:47, 22 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Island Monkey ,

Thank you so much for trying to help me adding a photograph, but how do I change >

Example

to the photograph I wish to place ?? You can not go in anyway to Phile to get the photograph ???

Many thanks again, Gerard Lemmens

Glemmens1940 (talk) 18:51, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, oh, that's easy. Just replace the part where it says File:Example.jpg with File:--FILE NAME GOES HERE--. Island Monkey talk the talk 06:49, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks Island Monkey !!!

Gerard Lemmens Glemmens1940 (talk) 11:08, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good evening Island Monkey , I got the pro for the photograph - >[[File:Example.jpg|thumb|right|Example] - loaded but then I could not find on - the side bar (is that the side bar on the left ??) - load photograph. I could not find that at all, so ended up deleting it all again.

Sorry for being so stupid !!

ORPHAN PAGE[edit]

Could somebody please explain when an Orphan page changes into a NORMAL Page ? What can I do to change it ???

Sincere regards and many thanks,

Gerard

Glemmens1940 (talk) 12:33, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Gerard, you have to write a lot of articles about beer or Macleod-people so that you can link those articles to Anna Macgillavry Macleod. But since a few articles mentioned her I removed the ORPHAN PAGE... sincerely, Menke66 (talk) 13:58, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Menke,

Thanking you for taking away the - Orphan - label on Anna Macleod's page - but if you look at that page there is a lot of blue colour indicating that there are plenty of references to other pages - is that not enough ??

No, other pages should link to this page, not this page to other pages. But things are fine now. Best regards, Menke66 (talk) 20:28, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Menke, Many many thanks for your great help !!

Gerard

Coach

I wonder if you could possibly help me as I am looking for a coach who could assist me ? I have some queries and as I am also a contributor on the Dutch Wikipedia where they have advised to have a coach. For instance I have been assisting on the page on - Hops - and I have found there that that page is probably written by a German person who seems to be very biased about the hop industry and its use in German whereas no attention was payed to the great significance of Wye College hop department and the breeding of hop varieties at Wye College which has been a dramatic effect on the world hop industry. Salesius Lemmens[edit]

As far as I could tell he was never a bishop or he would have been listed in http://www.catholic-hierarchy.org

Thank you Tissueboy,

I can not find him either there but he lived from 1904-1942 and I can not see the records going back that far. The Karachi diocese do not give the information either . he has a page on the NL Wikipedia: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salesius_Lemmens

His sister Gertrude Lemmens has a page on the U.K. Wikipedia. Regards, Glemmens1940 (talk) 06:12, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No worries - the article deserved some attention. I think it might be worth pointing out (given your username and statement on your userpage) that conflict of interest editing can still be a concern if the person is a family member - even a deceased one. I'm not suggested it's an immidiate issue - just something to be careful of. As an aside, I might have a look at whether Guillaume Lemmens would meet inclusion criteria for an article. Stalwart111 12:44, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not a family member[edit]

Jean-Nicolas Lemmens or Joannes-Nicolaas Lemmens in Dutch has the same surname as I have but he is not related to me unfortunately ! I have visited the Cathedral in Victoria and just became interested in his life story.

Glemmens1940 (talk) 10:47, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough - glad you clarified (though mine was only a friendly caution anyway). You might want to note the same thing on your userpage if you are going to edit that article in particular. That way, other editors won't have any reason to apply COI tags. Happy editing! Stalwart111 11:48, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your message, James Cornelius was the first Archbishop of Karachi. The Archdiocese was elevated from the Diocese of Karachi (1948) in 1950. He became the bishop first in 1948 and then in 1950 the Archbishop. At the time of Salesius Lemmens death in 1942, Karachi was under the diocese of Bombay. hope this helps. User talk:VIAFbot wasn't the right place to ask this, so I'll reply here.

Your redlink was to Jozeph Israels: the z was right but not the "ph". Jozef Israels leads to the article (it's a "redirect"), and its title is Jozef Israëls. There are a lot of redirects from different variations of the name - seen here - but not from the semi-anglicised spelling of "Jozeph". I hope that makes sense. Ways to improve Jan Hendrik Doeleman[edit]

Hi, I'm TheOriginalSoni. Glemmens1940, thanks for creating Jan Hendrik Doeleman!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. The references need to be added to the article itself, and not in external links.

Also, the article should be very clear on why the painter is famous

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Removing fact template[edit]

Hello Glemmens1940, here you removed a fact template I placed in that article 1 day earlier. Removing the template was the only change that took place in that edit so it looks intentional. In your edit you didn't explain what source was used for the information. Since you added recently the text for which a source was asked, I guess it should have been not so difficult for you to provide the source. You are not supposed to just remove the template without providing details about the source; especially since it is an article with several issues as can be seen at the top of the article including "This article needs additional citations for verification" and the remark "It reads like a remembrance, one of the main contributors to the article is the subject's son.." . I will restore the template. - Robotje (talk) 17:41, 28 March 2013 (UTC) Hello Robotje, I am not so technical computer orientated but your questions {citations} you will find mentioned on the web site of Elizabeth van Kampen [1] which I have mentioned under external links. It will take some time to read but I know Elizabeth van Kempen as she was in the same two camps during the war we were also interned in - Camp Malang and Camp BanjoeBiroe camp 10 ! Thank you Glemmens1940 (talk) 20:14, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Robotje,

Furthermore what you also needed citations for are to be found in - 2008. Inez Hollander. Silenced Voices. and in Dutch the publication by Pauline Slot of 2010 in Dutch entitled - Soerabaja. I hace referred to them in the text where you have mentioned citations. I hope this is of some clarification to you? Glemmens1940 (talk) Robotje, I have tried to add the references to the text but found it not easy !!! You will now notice more references, External Links and Internal links too . Regards and thanks,

Glemmens1940 (talk) 17:10, 29 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Glemmens1940, I now see several footnotes to the page http://www.japanfocus.org/-elizabeth_van-kampen/3002 but I cannot find the name 'Lemmens' on that page. For example "Lemmens was then taken by train [13] to the prison BanyuBiru on Central Java, .." with [13] being a link to that page doesn't make since to me. Please explain. - Robotje (talk) 19:27, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Robotje,

I am afraid that you have to read the stories of Elizabeth van Kampen on her web site and not look for the name Lemmens but to take it that what happened with the prisoners from Malang or the east of Java who were transported to BanyuBiru prison. You are probably wanting a reference for every sentence which is typical the way the Dutch contributors apply but not the English ones. Surely there are enough reference already mentioned ? You should read them all before you start commenting or criticising, I feel! If you then have any question I gladly try to answer them to you. Glemmens1940 (talk) 20:16, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

On the English Wikipedia there are all kind of rules. At Wikipedia:Verifiability you can see that there is a policy which states about the contents of articles: " Its content is determined by previously published information rather than the beliefs or experiences of its editors. ... All quotations, and any material whose verifiability has been challenged or is likely to be challenged, must include an inline citation that directly supports the material." So it is for you to prove the information you add in the article namespace. If you write that Lemmens was taken by train to the prison BanyuBiru than you cannot just put a footnote to a page where his name is not mentioned at all. - Robotje (talk) 09:07, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest you take your negative comments and criticisme back with you to the Dutch Wikipedia web site and stay there! In future please read the references first before you make any more negative comments again. I also suggest you reed the page on Cyber Bullying on this web site to as thank God it is an offence here in the U.K. and also take that information with you to the Dutch site and may be you could translate it for those there? I would also like to know what pages you have contributed to this English Wikipedia web site as I have not seen any !?? Glemmens1940 (talk) 11:46, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I fear that Robotje is only interested in nagging you, Gerard. Some people like to do that. I think he or she is missing you on the Dutch Wikipedia! Best wishes, Menke66 (talk) 12:06, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Menke, I think you are 100% correct in thinking that - it is a typical Dutch Wikipedia culture - canceling pages and taking most of the text away seems to be their satisfaction in life. They do not contribute themself much to Wikipedia in terms of writing themselves any pages. That is why Wikipedia in Britain is so much better, helpful, sophisticated and pleasant ???

Glemmens1940 (talk) 12:29, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't miss Glemmens1940 on that Wikipedia, so you are both 100% wrong. If you have problems with me or other people at the Dutch Wikipedia, you should discuss that on that Wikipedia. I would advice both of you to not import problems from other Wikipedias into the English Wikipedia. - Robotje (talk) 13:54, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As you are well aware you and other moderators have blocked Gerard for life on the Dutch Wikipedia against common Wikipedia-rules. You are the one who is importing problems from the Dutch Wikipedia here, by exclusive and only editing Gerards article. Please be so polite not to import your problems with Gerard here. Menke66 (talk) 14:04, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Robotje to stay civilised, which one does on this web site in general, I have just three word for you - No more comments !!!

Please stay to the point[edit]

Hallo Glemmens1940, you were asked to comply with the Wikipedia:Verifiability which is an official policy on this English Wikipedia. If you added information to this English Wikipedia which you cannot prove with previously published information then you should remove it A.S.A.P. from the articles. I you cannot provide a source that directly supports what you are writing just realize you shouldn't have added that text into the article because it is a violation of the policy here. Removing fact templates without providing a source that meets that point (as you already did a few times) will only make things worse for both you and the article. - Robotje (talk) 13:54, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Everyone is working on that here - please keep your lectures where they belong - on the Dutch Wiki. Do not import your problems with Gerard here. Menke66 (talk) 14:04, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
But Robotje - you do not read the References and Sources before you are starting to make negative comments - please take your negative comments to that Cyber Bullying group on the Dutch Wikipedia and stop please pestering us here on this wonderful friendly and sophisticated web site. Go and read all the References, Links and Sources FIRST - Goodbye Glemmens1940 (talk) 14:58, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lemmens[edit]

I think we have sufficient information about Lemmens to make an article about him on the Dutch Wikipedia - however there is so much hatred and frustration over there they will probably delete the article without any explanation. So I think it is useless. Kind regards, Menke66 (talk) 17:16, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Good morning Menke, thanks expecially to you and all the other contributors to the page Adrianus Johannes Lemmens for making that page so interesting.

In the meantime I think we should wait with re-entering this page on the Dutch Wikipedia as it probably is a waste of time with all the Cyber Bullying that is going on there. That is an offence in Britain and Scotland yard is watching that carefully. We are lucky that on the Brtitish Wikipedia there are far more friendly, sophisticated and fare more helpful contributors then on the Dutch Wikipedia ?! Glemmens1940 (talk) 10:59, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gerard; I have been away for Easter and only just saw your message. The article is very interesting and (IMO) a worthy addition to Wikipedia. When I have a few minutes, I will do some tidying. One thing I noticed (and this often happens when people write articles about family members/personal acquaintances) is the inclusion of personal stories/anecdotes, rather than published references, which may break Wikipedia's "no original research" rule. For example, I would like to keep the amazing story about "Ben" and the gold teeth; can we reference things like that with citations? (Even old newspaper article would do, if you have the date, title etc.) Grant | Talk 04:40, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Grant, thanks for your message !!! However I have had reactions and most people just seem to be facinated by the story of the gold filled teeth! They seem to like that story. Regards, Glemmens1940 (talk) 12:30, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

April 2013[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from Adrianus Johannes Lemmens. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. The Banner talk 19:40, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. The Banner, I thought Menke gave you an excellent reason for removing the template as the reasons for the template were not specified and the template was just a copy of an older out of date template - no further comments !Glemmens1940 (talk) 21:57, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not attack other editors, as you did to User talk:The Banner. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. The Banner talk 10:18, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See my reply below and once again , I now have two words for Mr. The Banner - No Comment Glemmens1940 (talk) 11:30, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

FYI[edit]

I have started a discussing about your possible legal threat at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Is this a legal threat? The Banner talk 10:34, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. - The Banner - You once again do not read things properly, or so it seems ? I have pointed out that Cyber Bullying is an offence in the U.K. which you do not seem to be aware off? Your actions on this web site could be detrimental to Wikipedia Eng., i think or am I not allowed by you to point this out ??? I have not threatened you directly in my opinion. Just look at The Banner's Talk page to see the history of his criticisme on this web ?Glemmens1940 (talk) 11:16, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop attacking other editors, as you did on User talk:The Banner. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. The Banner talk 11:56, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dispute Resolution[edit]

Hi Glemmens1940 last month The Banner nominated my article on my Mother for deletion. I was able to beat this AfD but had to go through a very difficult process and I needed lots of help. I am not a friend of The Banner and I don't like how he operates. I have made him an offer and I will make you the same offer.

I offer my services to broker a peaceful and neutral resolution to your conflict with The Banner. If you promise to abide by my recommendations, avoid harassing The Banner and abide by the Wikipedia's code of civility including withdrawing legal threats I will broker a solution that will allow you to both enjoy editing here.

In addition I will do my best to help you save your article from deletion! BO | Talk 00:39, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I have deleted this page for the reason given in the deletion log. However, if you have any evidence for any wikipedia contributor participating in cyber bullying, please let me know or raise it at Wikipedia:ANI. Thanks for drawing attention to the issue. Deb (talk) 13:48, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for disruptive editing, personal attacks, legal threats, using Wikipedia as a memorial and other behavior that is incompatible with building an encyclopedia. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.  v/r - TP 14:42, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

This is the first week, after months of constructive edits, this user crossed the wrong line. Is it not possible to reduce the block to say 3 months and give this user one other chance. He has been teased a lot by other users and was angry because of that. Don't you think anyone should have at least one chance to show he has learned from this? Don't you think we should Assume good faith and give him one more chance? This plea is written by a collegue, User:Menke66 - Menke66 (talk) 15:28, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

The user is free to make his own unblock requests. --jpgordon::==( o ) 18:29, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
