re:autographs

A very impressive list, this image sticks in my mind the post, because it's the topic of history that I am most interested, and it is quite a poignant picture. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SGGH (talkcontribs) 18:35, 16 April 2007 (UTC).

Well I'd always be interested in reading stories you have about Vietnam, but then I'm aware that not everyone likes to talk about it, understandably. By the way, I noticed USMC is today's featured article! Undoubtedly you had something to do with that! SGGH 07:44, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Re:Source

I'll look for the proper way to attribute it to the USNA records. Can you get them to send you a copy of the NYT article? — ERcheck (talk) 22:02, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Since you have the communication with the USNA and have their e-mail, I'd prefer that you put in the citations. I'll provide them below.

Place all of the text between the nowikis just after the last period in the Lopez paragraph.

When asking about the articles, can you see if you can get:

  1. the title of the 1936 article and the authors (if any) on both the 1936 and 1911 articles
  2. information on the availability of the records on Commodore Lopez. In particular, are the records available to the public? If so, where are they located? (Nimitz Library? Collection name?) Probably helpful if you let Ms. Bryan know that you are needing the info on the records in order to properly cite the source.

ERcheck (talk) 23:33, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Place it directly after the last period in the bullet point entry for Lopez that ends in "Mare Island Naval Shipyard." — ERcheck (talk) 23:46, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Puerto Ricans in the Vietnam War

Tony, Ignacio Rivera (a Vietnam vet himself) claims that the Vietnamese thought of Puerto Ricans as mercenaries. He visited Vietnam about seven years ago, and claims that the guide who gave him the tour of the underground tunnels called them "The Iron People". True? Demf 15:03, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: The image

Hey Tony sir,

I would be very interesting in more stories from your time in South East Asia, if you ever have a spare few minutes and feel like talking about it. Once I have finished (and hopefully published) my current novel based during the Second World War (I ought to cast a Puerto Rican character in there in your honour!) I am hoping to write one set in Vietnam, as it is where my strongest interests lie. One thing that I personally would think odd would be to learn that students can have "historical interests" in something so defining as a war, so I wonder how you feel about that.

On a wiki note, Russian-Circassian War passed A class review but I have yet to hard a serious critic come along to help me with its flaws, Sandy Georgia (I think it was, from the Mozambican article FAC review) has yet to come back to me with anything. I you feel like taking a look, let me know! Hope you are having/had a good break.

Welcome back

Welcome back. Glad it was a good vacation.

It has been relatively quiet. One major loss — Looper5920 has decided to retire from Wikipedia. He has made so many amazing contributions to the body of articles, especially to the USMC coverage, aviation in particular. He will be greatly missed.

Concerning the Hispanic Admirals in the United States Navy article. The comment on the talk page about Uriah Levy is an interesting one. After reading your comments and addition, I've revised my comments on the talk page (as well as made some formatting changes to the citation). I've also sent you an e-mail.

WikiProject Puerto Rico

Hey Tony, why did you decide to leave WikiProject Puerto Rico? - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 03:29, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Look, Tony. I know there's been some friction within the project lately because of the assessment discussion and everything, but time passes, and so do past arguments. I just think you are an invaluable resource to the Project, and it will suffer immensely without you. The Project has been stagnant these past few months, with just a handful of users dedicating time to it. I tried jump-start a few areas within the project to see if people would wake-up, but I'm worried I did more harm than good by doing so. So far, few users are really paying attention to the various sections, with the exception of you and Joelito. Both of you have been pioneers in the project, and your efforts and guidance have brought it to where it is now. I'm afraid that if either or both of you go, the project will not last long.
Nevertheless, I do understand that you are not merely an editor or administrator in Wikipedia anymore, but actually a liaison between many outside communities, including Wikipedia and Puerto Rican veterans, and your time will be very limited because of this. If this is the case, then I can understand completely why you wish to withdraw and support you all the way, albeit with grief. But if its for other reasons, then please... PLEASE... reconsider. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 04:21, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
THANK YOU, Tony. Thank you. I know you won't be able to be as active as you once were, and I understand that. But I feel assured about the project if you're name is there. Participants and new users can talk to you in case of need or counsel if your name is there. Again, thank you. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 10:27, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi,

I appreciate your work in building my dad's page! I'm Michael Llenza, LT USN, from Santurce, PR, and my dad wanted me to fix some innacuracies in his page. He never sewrved in Korea, so he doesn't have any of the korean medals to include the united nations one or the commendation one my mom, (LTCOL Krystyna Llenza) has that one. I deleted the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal by mistake, he does have that one. He also has the Florida and the Puerto Rico National Guard Distinguished Service Medals. I appreciate your help!

Gaspar Roca

I've done a bit of legal research regarding El Vocero's late editor Gaspar Roca's freedom-of-the-press judicial victories which I believe merit his reinclusion in the list of notable Puerto Ricans. Puerto Ricans in World War II nomination for Main Page

FYI... Hey Tony. Just dropped by to let you know I've nominated Puerto Ricans in World War II for an appearance on Wikipedia's Main Page. Although the decision to include it is not up to us (its up to User:Raul654), I wanted to let you know so you can review the material on the nomination entry to make sure it looks right. I nominated it for two dates: May 28, 2007 (Memorial Day) and September 23, 2007, the date which Ken Burns' controversial documentary is scheduled to air. What do you think? - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 03:03, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Welcome to the cadre of editors who find themselves reverting the original research and opinions of User talk:Ron liebman and his IP-address sockpuppets on almost a daily basis. d:) Wahkeenah 00:01, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your note and your help. That is just one of several IP addresses he uses. I can give you a list of the articles he's constantly messing with, if that would help. The sad thing is that, as Wknight94 and I found out (and others since) that he won't cooperate. He's got his alleged "research" and doesn't care what anyone else here thinks. Regretably, it has got to the point where I automatically revert any of his "contributions", with hardly a close look. Wahkeenah 01:25, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Expeditionary Strike Group Three

A few comments:

  • Since the ESG concept is relatively new (c. 2003), I wonder whether the date active should be that for ESG3 instead of COMPHIBGRU 3.
  • It is difficult to get a clear, concise description for a lead paragraph.
  • I think there needs to be a separate article that describes the ESG concept (joint USN, USMC)

I formatted the current citations and added another from 2003 Concepts of the USMC. — ERcheck (talk) 13:02, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Proposal for renaming of Notable Hispanics

Tony, I brought this to the attention of the WikiProject Latinos, but wanted you to be aware of this, in case you don't frequent their talk page. My note is:

I see that an editor has made a proposal to move/rename the list Notable Hispanics. As this article is tagged with the WikiProject Latinos banner, I brought this proposal to this page so that interested parties could participate in the discussion.

Perhaps you would be interested in making a comment as you have contributed to the list.— ERcheck (talk) 18:40, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

OK, you're unblocked. I can't tell you about your adminship, though. Check the threads at WP:ANI and WP:BN; things may have to settle down a bit before anything firm is decided. Thatcher131 19:40, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Request handled by: Thatcher131 19:40, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Tony, you need to change your password and also change the password on any other account or service that used the same password. After acknowledging that you have changed your password, I'll unblock your account so you can edit. However, you may have to go through RFA to get your adminship back. See WP:ANI today; you are the fourth admin to be emergency desysopped in the last day or so. One had the password "fuckyou" (sixth most common actually) and one was "password". There is some discussion to the effect that an admin who used a weak password that allowed their account to be cracked has lost the community's trust and needs to go through RFA again, although I don't think this is settled yet. Thatcher131 19:21, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Marine, your account has been compromised. We have no direct way of knowing if the latest contributions from this account are in fact the owner of this account or the hacker who is cracking passwords on a number of accounts. I recommend you contact Brion Vibber or Jon Harald Søby. Communication via talk page communications is unlikely to achieve closure of this issue. I think you will need to talk to one of them over the phone, at least. I'm very sorry this happened, but your password was apparently very weak. --Durin 19:24, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
    • Checkuser has confirmed that the most recent edits are indeed the original owner of the account. That said, Tony, if you have changed your password, then you will be unblocked. 2007 Hispanic Yearbook

Tony, Take a look at this story on the Marine Corps Recruiting Command's homepage about the 2007 Hispanic Yearbook [1]. — ERcheck (talk) 23:17, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank You All

It is kind of funny because it really isn't my birthday. It was on March 9, but thank you all for your kind words and support.

As you all know, some hacker cracked my password and I have been stripped of my admin powers. I can understand an admin. being blocked, but stripped of his powers without a fair hearing or consensus, I can't. I have stated that I changed my password and would like my powers back, however the chastizing going on in 2 has sadden me. It doesn't matter how many articles you have written, contributions you have made or how many years you have dedicated to making this project a credible one. A hacker, it seems has the power of making people consider you an untrustful person and turning some people in the community against you.

I have never abused of my powers and I have used Wikipedia as a medium to educate others. Yes, I have no regrets about having made so many contributions to the Pedia. I exhort all of my friends here to make sure that their passwords are strong ones so that you will not have to go through what I am going through.

I did promise some of my friend a couple of articles and as a good Marine I will keep my promise. To my friends here, Thank you for your friendship. Tony the Marine 23:27, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Your wiki-birthday is coming up on May 24. Also, I stand with you. I think it's unfortunate this has happened. Few of us are experts in security and can readily evaluate what might or might not be a strong password. Rendering you worthy of mistrust is equivalent to casting guilt upon a nicely dressed woman for enticing a rapist. I was a squid, but this applies anyways; Semper Fi. --Durin 01:04, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

This too will pass

Tony, When the dust settles, I hope that the hacked admins will have their priviledges restored (without having to be renominated), after each assures that they have reset passwords to more complex choices. In the meantime, you can continue your editing. It is clear that you haven't abused your powers, and have amassed an amazing body of contributions which have brought positive notice to Wikipedia. — ERcheck (talk) 23:50, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Tony! I too hope that the hacked admins will be reinstated upon proving (as you have done) that they are back in control of their accounts. But if the decision is to go with the fire-and-brimstone attitude I'm seeing from a number of people here, I will certainly support you at RFA. --Stormie 00:33, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Tony. I'm in agreement with the sentiments of ER and Stormie also. Looking at the bigger picture--we should all assume good faith here: there's no way that people like you are going to abuse their powers just because someone else cracked their passwords -- it's an absurdity, and those screaming shrilly will likely see this once they calm down. So yes, absolutely you should have your sysop bit back posthaste. I suspect though that it will take a few days for the dust to settle. Should the "run for RFA again" crowd have their way, of course I will support you. Antandrus (talk) 00:39, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Tony - sorry to hear of all the problems - I have a feeling it nearly happened to me, too (I got one of those automated emails saying "you asked for confirmation of your password" a few days back). With any luck this should pass fairly quickly and full privileges will be restored soon... it's just a case of riding it out. Here in NZ we have a Maori saying, "Kia kaha", which literally means "stand strong" and roughly translates as "keep your head up, you've got support - don't let this get you down". It seems appropriate at the moment. Grutness...wha? 01:03, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Dear Tony, I just found out about all this - please know that my heart is with you entirely, and if I can vouch for your trustworthiness, which I'm sure is out of the question, I gladly will. And needless to say, if they decide that you should go through RfA again (God forbid the excessive stress and loss of time, and hopefully they'll spare you that), you'll have a nominator and enthusiastic supporter in me. Se fuerte, amigo mio! Te quiero mucho! Tu amiga, siempre, Phaedriel - 01:30, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Tony, you can do much more for WP without sysop powers than a heck of a lot of sysops can. I hope this hiccup doesn't prevent you from authoring and updating WP articles (you must get satisfaction from it, and lots of us appreciate it), and in due time I hope you are also able to do admin duties again. Don't let the hacking buggers drive you out. There are lots of good editors standing with you. Chris the speller 01:38, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Readminning

You were desysopped for a good reason (i.e. [3]). I don't think spamming people's talk pages is the best way to gain support for your resysopping, just let it run it's course. John Reaves (talk) 00:49, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

I do not think he is spamming in the sense of canvasing, but I agree, we need to have the dust settle before any process will be decided. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 01:04, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
My God, he isn't spamming. He's telling his friends on this site what happened to him and also warning others to strengthen their passwords. --Alabamaboy 01:33, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
I strongly reject the notion that Tony is canvassing nor trying to muster sympathy for a purported "re-sysopping cause". He has demonstrated in solid years of wiki experience that he's a straight, honest person, and I can hardly imagine "anyone" reading his note as anything but his sincere gratitude of other users' friendship and support. I'm positive Tony is the first one to understand that the storm must pass before this matter can be settled, but he's entitled to express his grief at these events - heck, who wouldn't be grieved in his place? I'm pleased to see that your op bit was restored (although I regretfully do agree that its removal was necessary until the fuss was settled; just because we're not supposed to unblock ourselves doesn't mean that we're not able to - witness Robdurbar, for instance). DS 02:57, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm glad you got the sysop bit back, I suppose I forgot to assume good in all this. At any rate, looks like you're a great contibutor. Now maybe you should work on a few backlogs....04:55, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Dear Tony

My dear Tony, I'm so happy that you can now put this behind you as an unpleasant incident. Wikipedia and all of us who call you our friend would have suffered way too much without you by our side. Now just try to relax, gather your strength back, and join us again in the ranks. "In many a strife we've fought for life, and never lost our nerve". Let's roll, soldier! :) Love, Phaedriel - 03:44, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Tony, I agree with Phaedriel. I'm so glad that this incident is over and you've been restored to full editing and sysop privileges. There are still a lot of great articles to be written. (Still looking forward to the ESG article ;) — ERcheck (talk) 04:20, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Your work is invaluable to the project. Too many great editors have left Wikipedia because of idiotic vandals, but this incident proves that you are above and beyond those childish actions, and you have a great chunk of the community backing you up for it. Stand strong. Stand proud. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 04:33, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Tony, I'm also pleased to welcome you back to the cadre of admins.-gadfium 08:28, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Tony, as one subject to fairly frequent abuse, let me say I'm glad that you are continuing your fine work. I decided it really wasn't worth fighting battles just to become an admin. As much as I would appreciate helping, I have far too many important things to want to deal with the squabbles. I concentrate on making articles at least tolerable factually so that my students have a place to start their research. That goal keeps me focused and with a lower blood pressure. Semper Fi! --CTSWyneken(talk) 10:02, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Just caught up on all this. What a desmadre. Looks like things are calming down, but if I can do anything, just let me know. In the mean time, I have strengthened my password -- my old one was super weak (you probably would have guessed it in two), and I had no idea anyone would ever want to hack a wiki account, for God's sake. Bunch of savages in this world. Stay strong, brother. Murcielago 15:12, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Tony, welcome back (not that you ever went away :-). As someone who has been cyberstalked b/c of my work here at Wikipedia, I understand what you must be feeling. Stay strong and keep up the great work. Best, --Alabamaboy 00:23, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Your work certainly has not been in vain; you were the victim of a hacking incident, and you deserve to be treated with respect, particularly in light of your long-standing status as a tireless contributor to the encyclopedia. Hold your head up high and don't worry about anything else. Firsfron of Ronchester 20:33, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

re:nomination

Of course I will nominate you if it comes to that, but I don't think it will I think you'll just be reinstated! Anyway... back to work! SGGH speak! 11:32, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Bad news

Sorry to hear this news old chap - hopefully a re-instatement is all that is needed - let me know if you need some support or hlep - your pal Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 15:38, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to hear

... about all the hassle you've been having. Just to let you know that I sympathise with your plight and having read everything that's been said over the last few days, both on ANI and by yourself, I just want you to know that you certainly have my support, even though we've not really met on here before. You're one of the good guys! - Alison 17:57, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Update on San Juan

I have been working on the page for the last week and I have done some significant changes; at the moment the page has about 70 refs I will still add some more, the "Notable Sanjuaneros" and "Diplomacy" sections have been turned into wikitables. I was a little reluctant to ceated a new "Sub divisions" section outside of "Geography" because what would remain in the section would be just one paragraph, so what I did was create a new "Districs" sub section to make it expecific. If you have time can you take a look and see if you can provide some suggestions this being my first time raising a page about a city means I am a little dull at doing it and some thing may pass by me, thanks for your time. - 01:11, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey

Really sorry to hear about all that's happened over the past few days. I'm glad that you were quickly re-sysopped, because we need more folk like you around here :) Hope the whole episode hasn't been too unpleasant for you, and we can all move on from it with a better idea of how to tackle problems like this. I think it's important that we stick together in times of crisis, and not resort to negativity. Anyway, take care :) – Riana 06:39, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

RE: Your comments

Thanks Tony, I had a great wiki-role model! SGGH speak! 07:32, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

You're Welcome

I had to say something. I felt, as I'm sure you did, that things were getting ridiculous. I'm very happy you've been reinstated. Cheers man, --Tractorkingsfan 07:51, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Stay cool.

You deserve an apology from the WP bozocrats. No te dejes intimidar por pend... a la vela como Tony Sidaway y Co.  ;-) Demf 13:50, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Baseball tour

Thanks for the note. My envy knows no bounds. :) I've actually been to most of those places at various times. I like the fact that you can (or could) park near Camden Yards and then walk to the Babe Ruth / Baltimore Orioles museum before the game if you give yourself enough time. The one thing I recall about being at the museum was catching one of their videos at the wrong moment and having to relive Tito Landrum's home run against the White Sox in the 1983 ALCS. So it goes. d:) Wahkeenah 12:16, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Welcome home

Just a simple message. Welcome home! It may be 40 years later but there are some of us who feel it should still be said.--Witchzilla 13:21, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Tony. It means a lot, especially knowing we can count on each other in this crazy world. Paz. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 11:25, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Rick Gonzalez

Tony,

You restricted our access to "editing" the Rick Gonzalez page after we attempted to add a link:

http://www.e-fansite.com/rickgonzalez

The site is the Offical Site linked from Rick's Myspace Page (his Band U-Krime) at:

http://www.myspace.com/ukrime

If you have any questions about the validity of the Myspace page, all you have to do is research any U-Krime/Rick Gonzalez CD or Link to the CD (iTunes etc.).

We are his "Official WebSite" and would like to be included on his Wikipedia Page. Thank you for your time. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Slaminc (talkcontribs) 17:54, 12 May 2007 (UTC).

  • I have no problem with the fan website, the thing is that fan websites are considered as spamming within Wiki policy and are not allowed. I know that you do this in good faith and your block will be lifted soon, however I can't guarantee that someone else will come along and revert it. Tony the Marine 18:10, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for responding, We will attempt to re-add the site shortly.

Puerto Rico Portal

Hey Tony. I've revamped the Puerto Rico Portal. Now, different articles and pictures appear in the portal page every time you refresh it. I also added a "News" section. What do you think? - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 21:54, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Where do you find all this information? You're creating articles about important Puerto Rican people nobody seems to know about or care. I guess I feel a little embarrassed for my country, and for me, for not recognizing these pioneers. By the way, did you pass the article through the main page DYK? - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 11:56, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Henry Klumb

Tony: You may want to take a look at an article for submission I've posted at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation/Today#Heinrich.2FHenry_Klumb on Puerto Rico's most famous architect.

I may be able to add a few additional facts later on, but I'd appreciate if you could take a look at the life of this fascinating germano-riqueño whose work was the object of a major exhibition at the Museo de Puerto Rico last year and of a book, which I cite, currently in the better bookstores in San Juan. 200.50.30.180 12:09, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

  • He certanly is a very interesting subject. You almost wrote an article per-se and a very interesting one I might add. I'll see if I can work on it after I write an article that I have pernding, but be my guest. Tony the Marine 14:50, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your interest. I've added a few more biographical and professional facts, but am basically done with this article-for-creation.200.50.30.180 08:39, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Press release question

Hi Tony,

I just saw you upload that extremely interesting press release. "Killed in action by an enemy sniper on December 8, 1945"? Considering that Japan surrendered several months before that, is it a mistaken date, or something else interesting going on? Just curious ... Thanks for your continued excellent work here! Antandrus (talk) 01:07, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I get it now--the action took place in April, and the award was given on December 8. Great article! Great story! I love reading about these kinds of things ... my own grandfather was wounded in the Meuse-Argonne, and I remember some of his stories of heroism, --of others, of course, he never talked about his own. Good thing he survived, for there'd be no "Antandrus of Wikipedia." I have a picture of his trench knife on that article. --Arranging that reunion was a wonderful thing to do. Best, Antandrus (talk) 01:54, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey Tony. Have you tried this? - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 05:18, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

ESG

Thanks for working on the article. I've been taking it easy. Started a few new articles (see Edwin H. Simmons) , made a change to the format of the USMC Portal (the biography is at the top right now). — ERcheck (talk) 00:00, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

I found it. Nice article. I made some minor copyedits and reformatted the citations. Thanks. — ERcheck (talk)

Spanish Language Wikipedia

Hey, I hope you are doing great. I was wondering, do you edit on the spanish language wiki? Are you an admin there?Cjrs 79 11:55, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm doing great. Busy writing my thesis on wavelets. This summer i'm going to be teaching high school students in the Upward Bound program at the University of Iowa, and then in August I will be teaching Calculus at Grinnell College. So, I'm staying busy. Cjrs 79 15:39, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Tony, See this diff [4] of my recent edit to the Agustin Ramos Calero article. In reading the cited reference more closely, it5 appears to indicate, as I state in my edit, that the 2nd most refers to decorations for soldiers of Puerto Rican descent — this would include those from Puerto Rico and those from the States. What do you think? — ERcheck (talk) 20:59, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

I've been trying to uncover that. Seems that Modesto Cartagena is the most decorated, but his decorations are from the Korean War. Since the 1st is not from PR, then most likely didn't serve in the 65th Infantry. Surely the person who wrote the cited article would know? — ERcheck (talk) 21:59, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
While searching, I found an article on Frank Bonilla that was in serious need of attention. Looking at the edit history, seems that you've not worked on it. Take a look. Prof Bonilla seems to be an important figure. — ERcheck (talk) 22:29, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
Very creative. Reads very smoothly. — ERcheck (talk) 23:32, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Promotion on retirement

Tony, I've never heard the "tombstone" terminology. (I just did a quick G-search on it.) However, in writing a great number of military biographies, I've found a number of instances that general officers were promoted one rank at retirement by virtue of their heroics in combat. I'm not sure what law allows that — could be a challenge to find it. — ERcheck (talk) 00:31, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm not a fan of the terminology (it seems trite). In recognition of, in honor of service in combat, it is one way to show appreciation for the sacrifices of our military. — ERcheck (talk) 01:14, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Do you have a citation for Jose M. Cabanillas's promotion at death? He wasn't promoted at retirement? — ERcheck (talk) 01:50, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Linda Garcia Cubero

Updated DYK query On 18 May, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Linda Garcia Cubero, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.
