UEFA Euro 2016
Sorry, I'm outside right now using an Windows 10 computer, and not the iMac that I'm more used to at home. I accidentially fumbled a bit when editing and typing on the keyboard. My apologies. Arbero (talk) 16:39, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
- As for the Russian assistant referee Anton Averyanov, should I remove his name from the referees list as he is suspended after failing an fitness test, which was reported in April or should I just let his name stay there? Arbero (talk) 16:48, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Arbero: No problem, it was a mistake that was easy to fix and it can happen to anyone. About the referee, I think he could stay, but perhaps strike his name (using <s> and </s>), remove "standby" on the replacing assistant and add a note? I dont know what the best solution it but it is an idea. Qed237 (talk) 17:03, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Arbero: Perhaps all "standby" not used should be removed as not being part of tournament (if not used). At least after the tournament. Qed237 (talk) 18:38, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
- I think I'll go with your first suggestion if you don't have any problems with that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but do you mean something like this?

Looks quite decent to me. Arbero (talk) 23:04, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Arbero: Yes, that is what I meant. Looks good. Qed237 (talk) 09:33, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Arbero: I made the update. Qed237 (talk) 09:39, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
- Good to hear that. Arbero (talk) 11:19, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
Regarding the revert you made on my edit earlier today on referee appointments, I use a football blogspot (there are several other websites as well if you have noticed) to fill in referee appointments before they are revealed on UEFA's official website. I have been doing this quite a long time now, on other competitions such as UEFA Champions League and Europa League, as well as Olympics (association football) and other competitions if you have noticed. Is this recommended or do you think I should wait for UEFA/FIFA to report it themselves in the future? Because the blogspots do have sources listed for instance with a typical introduction text such as UEFA has appointed the match officials etc.. Arbero (talk) 19:16, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Arbero: My personal opinion is to wait for official confirmation (UEFA or FIFA) as I have seen these be wrong before. For example here Jonas Eriksson, Swedish referee who is now to officiate Turkey v Croatia in Euros, was added with source to UEFA Champions League final when in fact he ended up officiating Europa League final. Looking outside my personal view I guess the referee appointments could be added if reliable sourced, so use your best judgement, but I would wait. Qed237 (talk) 19:23, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
- You make a good point. I'll try and wait for the official news from UEFA/FIFA in the future then. Another option would be that I could have a look and see if any of the football blogspot websites has reported on the referee appointments and then have a look at UEFA or FIFA's websites and see if the referee appointments are listed before I go and add them. Just wondering why you restored my original edit here. If you have a look at previous UEFA European Championship articles such as UEFA Euro 2008, as well as 2012, you will see that all the group stage matches in each group only include a results table in the main article, with the match details (goalscorers, stadium, attendance, referee etc.) located in each group stage article. Arbero (talk) 17:33, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Arbero: I have discussed it with an other editor (can not remember where) and the discussion lead to keeping the football boxes as they are most commonly used on other tournaments. Since article contains a list of goalscorers it does not hurt to display them in the matches. Other than that I guess it is just personal preferences. Qed237 (talk) 18:49, 12 June 2016 (UTC)
- I understand. Well, I'm still used to the old ways myself if you know what I mean (such as only including a results table and having the match details in each group stage article as I described in my original post :P). Oh well, I suppose things change very often here on Wikipedia, have to try new ways, but I welcome them. Arbero (talk) 19:13, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi Qed237, Sofiane Feghouli's transfer to West Ham has now been confirmed by the club: "Hammers catch winger Feghouli". West Ham United. 14 June 2016.. I won't edit the page myself as I protected it but perhaps you would like to. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 14:19, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, I would have updated the date, but since I didn't update the attendance, I didn't want anyone to think that it was already updated because I had changed the date DasGermanMoses (talk) 18:04, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
- @DasGermanMoses: The best would be to wait for the attendance and then update everything. Wikipedia is not a news ticker so we can wait. Qed237 (talk) 18:14, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
Reverted edit in UEFA Euro 2016 3rd ranked teams table
Hello, I saw you just reverted my edit in the table (and left me a message). Im okay with your decision, but then Im a bit confused by what order are the teams ranked, cuz right now to me they seem ranked rather randomly (and am confused how was my edit not constructive). What is decisive for the order of the table in case of a tie in the points (and goals). I thought in case of even performances (points and score), they would be ordered alphabetically, but that doesnt seem to be the case. Judging by the top 3 teams (England-Ireland-Iceland), I thought they are ranked by the group they are in (B-E-F), so I thought by that logic at the bottom of the table it should be Northern Ireland befor Czech Republic (group C before group D)...? At this point I dont see how was that not constructive and how exactly are they supposed to be ranked? I thank you in advance for the explanation and Ill certainly follow it in the future. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Msb73505 (talk • contribs)

Your recent report at WP:AIV
Re your recent report at WP:AIV [1]: AIV should be for obvious cases of vandalism. You disagree with the way this editor contributes, and it must certainly be frustrating that they never respond to any talk page attempts to engage. But you've already brought this up at WP:ANI - MarcoAlbani1998, and failed to elicit any concern from the many people that commented on your report. I suggest that you need to let this annoyance go, and learn to live with it. Your edit history shows an intense focus on European Football, and that's good, but that passion might be getting in the way of you accepting the Wikipedia environment as it is. We're all part of the Wikipedia community, and some editors are destructive and vandalise, but there doesn't seem to be any consensus that this editor is a problem. I can even see where the extra whitespace would be annoying. To be honest, it would bug me, too. But the solution to the problem is within you. My two cents. Willondon (talk) 04:59, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Willondon: So this being immediately reverted, or this being reverted, or this changing to an image that dont exist, or this addition of bad png, and same disruptive image change here also being reverted. Note that only once it was me that reverted him and at least three different editors has been reverting him all the time. I get the blank spaces and I have dropped that, put that is just the tip of the iceberg. This editor is doing so much weird edits and never talks to anyone, just keeps on doing them and is obviously WP:NOTHERE. Qed237 (talk) 11:12, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Willondon: And it continues again. Could you at least have a word with him? Qed237 (talk) 19:02, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- The vandalism is hard to see. The edit you mentioned [2] invokes a different file with the '.png' extension, instead of the original '.svg'. Both files exist and look substantially the same (when rendered on my screen), so it seems like this uncommunicative editor just has a preference for one format over the other. Seems the editor is at least intending to improve the article, so I still assume good faith. Still, Wikipedia:Competence is required, and there are good faith editors that nevertheless create a mess. Not knowing much about football, it might be difficult for me (or others) to see where the damage is exactly. In any case, WP:AIV won't be the forum for fixing it. A well-crafted case at WP:ANI will probably be required. It would be useful to have a tool to report what percentage of an editor's changes get reverted with the next edit. I don't know if one exists or not. I understand your frustration. I'm just saying that WP:AIV isn't likely to be able to help you in this case. Willondon (talk) 19:32, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- P.S. I checked both versions of the page, and the images render almost exactly the same on my screen. Is it possible they're just using a format that isn't accessible by everyone? Willondon (talk) 19:34, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Willondon:For any kind of images, such as this one, which is drawn svg is preferred as it is in vector for much is downloaded faster and is smaller in storage space. Also as you say the look can be distorted for some editors with png. There is absolutly no reason for the editor to change a working svg to png. Qed237 (talk) 19:38, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- I learned a lot today, reading Wikipedia:Preparing images for upload and Commons:File_types#Size_and_scaling. (I’m not complaining. Any excuse to postpone work is fine by me.) My take is that for the diagram you referred to, the SVG format is indeed the preferred one, though PNG files are respected as a useful format.

- A real problem is that the editor doesn’t respond to anything for some reason, and does not leave edit summaries. If you want to pursue it, I think you’ll need to find a forum where this sort of thing is discussed and build a consensus that the SVG versions should be used instead of the PNG. After that, any persistence with no attempts to communicate could be considered disruptive, and you might interest an administrator in helping with the problem. That looks like a tough slog, so you might consider going to WP:ANI with a simple request (i.e. not delving into the details of the actual content disputes) based on the total lack of communication. Sincerely, best of luck. Willondon (talk) 20:16, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Incorrect information
Re this: feel free to notify me directly if the user does something like that again. I'm watching, but I'm not much good at telling right from wrong in football articles. The "0-10" looked kind of unconvincing even to me, though! Bishonen | talk 20:33, 19 June 2016 (UTC).

- @Bishonen: Just to be clear, the current score is not 0-10. If it was I could have assumed good faith and an interest in adding the current score, but now it was pretty clear a delibirate error (from my point of view). Qed237 (talk) 20:42, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

UEFA Euro 2016
Hello, i'm talking about table Group C after Ukraina vs Northern Ireland. The correct position should be, Germany in pos.1 cause have higher goal different, next Northern Ireland in pos.2 cause have higher goal scorer than Poland. So I edit with correct position, but you reverted. What you thinking about that? Sorry if my English is bad. Farizkang (talk) 18:38, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Farizkang: Read the tiebreaker rules. Head-to-head record comes first (as always in UEFA competitons). So far the only match between teams on 3 points in Poland v Northern Ireland 1–0 so Poland 3p (+1), Germany 0p (+0) and Northern Ireland 0p (-1) in head-to-head. Qed237 (talk) 18:44, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) (edit conflict) Farizkang The first tiebreaker is head-to-head matches- in head-to-head matches between Germany, Poland & Northern Ireland, Poland have 1 win, Germany haven't played any, and N Ireland have 1 defeat. So the order should be Poland, Germany, N Ireland. Joseph2302 (talk) 18:44, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
- No, No, No, if you see in the article
- The four best third-placed teams are determined according to the following criteria:
- Higher number of points obtained;
- Superior goal difference;
- Higher number of goals scored;
- Fair play conduct;
- Position in the UEFA national team coefficient ranking system.
- and no head to head — Preceding unsigned comment added by Farizkang (talk • contribs) 18:56, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

- Okay, sorry my fault you was right. Farizkang (talk) 19:20, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
I just wanna ask you, why third place combination ACDE, ACDF, ACEF, ADEF no longer possible. please expain to me cause I don't understand? Farizkang (talk) 05:58, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Farizkang: Hi. First of all it is good that you asked. The reason is that both group A and group B has finished and the third-placed team of group B (Slovakia 4 points) is ahead of the team in group A (Albania 3 points). So for that reason group A (Albania) can not qualify without group B (slovakia) as they are above them in the ranking. All combinations with A and no B is therfore no longer possible. Qed237 (talk) 10:03, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
Any idea on why Tvx1 continues to remove useful content from UEFA Euro 2016 knockout phase? I really do not see the point of removing the qualified teams table, which is standard on all knockout articles. Also, I see no reason to remove the format explanation, especially since after the tournament is over and the bracket is finished, the pairings will not be as clear. Not sure why the user insists on removing a helpful section, thoughts? Secret Agent Julio (talk) 06:49, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

references to former Yugoslavia in modern-day player infoboxes
I've explained my edit in the edit summary, as well as at length at User talk:FkpCascais#references to former Yugoslavia in modern-day player infoboxes. - Our opinions differ. For example in a featured article like List of European Cup and UEFA Champions League finals, there is no need to list all semifinalist. As the title suggest it is a list of finals. The main goal of these lists is to list the winners, but we list runners-up as well to list both finalists. After that there is no need to list semifinalists as well. Also if you add that, soon someone will add quarterfinalists, round of 16 teams and so on. I am sorry if you feel that all your hard work is getting deleted, that is not my intention. We welcome new editors at wikipedia. It is just that your additions were not notable. Listing goals / penalties
Hi Qed237, I realize of course that penalties and goals are usually listed with <br>, and there's a very simple reason for that: there was no other way, until recently. A few weeks ago I made an edit to the template to support listing syntax, which looks a lot better in the code (improving readability and reducing chance for mistakes). Not only that, the new syntax is actually semantically superior because it uses {{plainlist}}: after all, it is a list of goals (see the template doc about why it makes more sense than <br>).
So why all this explanation: I'm hoping to find an ally in spreading this new syntax. Of course people are used to using <br> because they know no better. The only way to make people used to the new syntax is by using it on highly visible pages. Would you support that? –Sygmoral (talk) 18:25, 25 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Sygmoral: Thank you for your message. I have totally missed that and not looked at it closer. I am not opposed to this change, but I would like to hear comments from other editors. And unfortunately I dont have time to look closer at the moment as I am about to go out for a few hours. Qed237 (talk) 18:28, 25 June 2016 (UTC)
- I prefer <br />. This is nornal for that. Only one line for each parameter (|goals1, |goals2 and other). In new standard with * maybe many lines for one parameter. For me: not very nice. GAV80 (talk) 18:49, 25 June 2016 (UTC)
- One line for each parameter is of course preferable, but if the value becomes quite long, it can become confusing and prone to errors. Splitting it into multiple lines is then a very simple solution. In any programming language, it is more important to have readable code than to have short code. After all, it looks the same to the reader, and it provides a much better overview for the editor. But if I can't easily get support for this, I suppose I should petition the WP:FOOTY talk page... –Sygmoral (talk) 20:21, 25 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Sygmoral: I dont think it would be easy to spread this usage on "normal goals" as not often there are three goals or more and with only a few goals the regualar linebreak is fine. I would say we should try and discuss this first and WT:FOOTY is a good place for that. Qed237 (talk) 21:48, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

Club when they were called?
Hej!
What?
What? Was that level of warning really needed? I asked if he left cause we all know he is "gone" but I was not sure if he was actually gone officially. Just revert, say it in the edit summary and be done with it. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 21:42, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
- @ArsenalFan700: I take it seriously when a person tries to provoke fans from other clubs. You did not have to change the club name to "sh*t" (diff). Qed237 (talk) 21:48, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
- That was not even me! I have been an editor here for more than five years now and I have never done that so why would I start now and for what reason? The only thing I can say that caused that was that I have an app that changes whenever you see "Tottenham" it goes to "Sh*t" so that may have been it but I have never intentionally done that before. Here is a link to the app if you think I am making it up. I will turn it off next time I edit a page that might have Spurs mentioned. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 21:54, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Xhaka and Wilshere
Hello , I would like to know why you deleted the changes i made on the pages of granit xhaka and jack wilshere . Both pieces of information were quiet relevant and i was just bringing it up to date.Kindly state your reasons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adjo321 (talk • contribs) 19:41, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Adjo321: This edit to Jack Wilshere was not only poorly written but also unsourced information to a WP:BLP. Also this to Granit Xhaka was poorly written with incorrect team names and WP:POV, as well as being written at place for international performance. The lead is also a summary of the article and the performance of the player and his spell at Arsenal is so short it has no notability in lead except the fact that he plays for them which is already listed. About "2018 FIFA World Cup qualification – CAF Third Round"
Hello, Qed237. Now for this Round are 5 pages: page for each group. Maybe better will merge this pages in one page, similar as AFC Second Round, or CONCACAF Fourth Round? GAV80 (talk) 11:41, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
- @GAV80: Yes, I saw that. I dont know if it is best to have it in separated articles or merge. For example UEFA has separated articles. Qed237 (talk) 11:45, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
- From a mathematical point of view: UEFA – 9 groups (separate), AFC – 8 groups (merge), CAF – 5 groups (5<8) → merge. And in UEFA 6 teams in each group: 30 matches. Total 270 matches. In CAF only 4 teams in each group: 12 matches. Total 60 matches. Too few matches than in UEFA: separated pages no needed. Better merge. In AFC was 160 matches on one page and was very good for reading. GAV80 (talk) 11:56, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
- @GAV80: I see your point. One thing to consider is WP:SIZESPLIT, and the fact that AFC is 130k, but at the same time that is mainly for prose while this is just list of matches. Qed237 (talk) 12:02, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
- Again mathematics: AFC (160 matches, 130 k), CAF (60 matches, ? k). Size=130/160*60≈48,75 k. From WP:SIZESPLIT: "an article may not need splitting based on size alone". GAV80 (talk) 12:30, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
- @GAV80: That is true, I suggest you ask the creator why he split the articles and if he agrees to a merge (which I can do if you want). Otherwise I am afraid we need some sort of consensus to do it. Qed237 (talk) 14:42, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

Michail Antonio
I have updated the page with correct information, to which you continually revert back to incorrect information. This is a form of vandalism and to suggest that you can continually remove edits that are CORRECT and anyone who calls that vandalism doesn't seem "very civil" is not tolerable and I will be continuing to update the page in accordance with the correct information. Next time I suggest if you have a problem with an edit, you clearly explain what that problem is if one of your core principles is "to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner". Any further attempt to vandalise the page, Michail Antonio, again without any attempt made to explain your actions will be reported. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.181.151.9 (talk) 23:53, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
- Not sure what you are getting at, but if you want to make changes to a WP:BLP you must provide a WP:RS and also please note that just playing in a position temporary does not make them a regular on that position. For an example I have played all my life in defence, but last week coach tried me as a striker (the other strikers were injured), but that does not make me a striker, I am still a defender. You can threaten me all you want with reports and accuse me for vandalism, but you should be aware that I have been on wikipedia for long and this is not WP:VANDALISM. It is you that risk being caught by WP:BOOMERANG and blcoked yourself for persistent disruptive editing. Qed237 (talk) 00:36, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

Michail Antonio
You are completely wrong. Refer edit, "plays for Premier League club West Ham United as a Winger or Right Back". That is a fact, one you cannot dispute. Your incorrect analogy about a defender who plays as a striker for one game is completely irrelevant. Indeed the edit does not state that the player is a winger OR a right back, it simply states that those are the two positions in which the player in question plays at said club. Do I make myself clear? It appears there's some basic comprehension issues coming from your end, however that will NOT excuse you from inappropriately removing edits that are simply stating factual information. I will be re-editing the page and if I see one more disruptive edit from you without VALID justification, this matter will be taken further. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.181.151.9 (talk) 08:10, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

{{wikinews}} removal
If the template is faulty with adding extra blank space, please ask someone to fix it. But that because of that; Wikimedia sister projects can't be ignored. I hope you have some good reason to prove the point not needed.
Agastya Chandrakant (talk) 10:52, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
- What I meant is that when you use it at football pages that has templates or wikitables with a width of 100%, wikinews is first and then the whole table/template is pressed down to be below it. This causes a huge gap between the header and the real content. The wikinews has no use anyway so then it is best just to remove it. Qed237 (talk) 11:04, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
- And how can you justify that that wikinews has no use?
Agastya Chandrakant (talk) 11:06, 12 July 2016 (UTC)- It does not give any additional information regarding the subject. Qed237 (talk) 11:08, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
- Do me a favour; please read UEFA Euro 2016: France wins opening match 2-1 vs Romania. Tell me if it doesn't provide additional information.
Agastya Chandrakant (talk) 11:11, 12 July 2016 (UTC)- I guess I should add the template again. Let me know where, after the football box template, or after the lineup.
Agastya Chandrakant (talk) 11:41, 12 July 2016 (UTC)- They should not be added to these articles. {{wikinews}} says Do not place this template in a section containing columns. and the match templates are built using columns (total width of 100%). These so called "news" only mess up the layout and I could not see any new useful information. Qed237 (talk) 11:48, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

No denying for below that section. Well, I really wonder where is Payet's cross, or Deschamps's post match comments mentioned on Wikipedia. And so, I will be placing those templates, for the news articles that I have created.

List of Sweden national football team captains
Hej!
Qed237 (talk) 12:11, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

Disengaging
Hi Qed, seems like it's been an interesting day with that IP - as an uninvited opinion, it might be a good idea to stop replying to them at their talk page and letting them cool off. I can't understand Swedish, but I can imagine that the conversation is unlikely to go anywhere but badly -- samtar talk or stalk 14:42, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Samtar: Thank you for that suggestion. Actually I was about to stop writing, when I noticed a change in tone and behaviour. Now the discussion is actually fairly calm, but I still intend to keep it short. Sometimes a block can have a miraculous effect quickly. Qed237 (talk) 14:52, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
- No worries, not being able to read the tone (or language!) makes my suggestion slightly moot - it is remarkable how some time to cool off helps bring around the realisation of how insignificant Wikipedia disputes often are -- samtar talk or stalk 14:55, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

- WP:IAR and I already explained why NOTBROKEN does not apply here as we dont display the redirect link. There is not need to link to a redirect when the link is not shown. The fact that you still not understand shows that you refuse to listen to others. Qed237 (talk) 19:39, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- @SLBedit: Have you even read the discussion? Qed237 (talk) 19:47, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- I'm telling you man, this guy is not only overly sensitive but also completely illogical. The fact that he can't DTS for this one thing could be worrying going forward. Italia2006 (talk) 14:35, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

- @SLBedit: No I did not, but after some investigation now I do. I never supported behaviour of Italia2006 (or your behaviour for that matter). I gave him right regarding his version of the article and your revert was pathetic. Read again and get your facts straight before accusing me. Qed237 (talk) 19:33, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Blocked
Lord Roem, I fully protected the page to avoid blocks. I don't see how this block will prevent disruption. We usually protect or block. --NeilN talk to me 22:18, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- @NeilN: Thanks for your input. It goes without saying that I agree with you. Qed237 (talk) 22:23, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
@The Replicator: Sorry, that I could not be much help after the matches tonight and not being able to update coefficients or top scorers. I am hopeful to be able to help tomorrow, since I feel I only reverted vandalism (WP:3RRNO), but Lord Roem apperently did not agree. I am not a vandal who is here to destroy wikipedia so I feel a bit upset and powerless know. Also blocks are to prevent further disruption and when I was blocked it had already stopped.... Anyway, I know you can do a good job so keep it up and I will help as soon as I can. Qed237 (talk) 22:22, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Qed237: No problem, thanks. Either way, I can assure anyone here in Wikipedia that you are not a vandal. The Replicator (talk) 22:28, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Request reason:
As explained in the edit summary I reverted vandalism with an IP inserting multiple factual errors when changing to incorrect club name which is nopt the page title. THe city article is at Dniprodzerzhynsk and not "Kamianske" per previous moves of ukrainian cities in Talk:Dnipropetrovsk. Perhaps I reverted to much, sorry, but as I said I only reverted vandalism per and if you look at my contributions and how long I am here you know that I am not here to dirsupt wikipedia. Blocks are to prevent further disruption and I promise that it wont happen, the page is even fully protected. Should be unblocked as all I did was to fight vandalism per WP:3RRNO. Qed237 (talk) 21:49, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
Accept reason:
I'll take you at your word that you recognize the mistake. I don't see it as clear vandalism since it's a dispute as to the team name, something that needs to be resolved on the talk page. I think NeilN's protection will likely be a better remedy as well. Lord Roem ~ (talk) 22:23, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
