Disambig for Area code 212[edit]

Obviously the page only has only one possible disambiguation. Nonetheless, it seems to me to be a fundamental error that an area code for Manhattan should be the treated as if it were the same thing as one in Istanbul, as they are simply not the same area code and should be discussed as separate entities, and it feels wrong to do that on one article. Thanks for uploading Image:Flashlight_450x190.JPG. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. Georgia Ave map[edit]

Thanks for your image of GA Ave. It's very useful but it appears that your map shows the street going south all the way to Constitution Ave, or at least through downtown. It actually goes no further south than Florida Ave. (On your map, that would be near the top of the "W" in "Washington".) Could you weigh in at the bottom of the Talk Page for Katelyn Faber regarding the inclusion of an image of her? User:Tufflaw, who unsuccessfully tried to have the entire article deleted back in December 2005 insists on censoring/deleting it for extremely specious reasons, and I've been asked to gather a consensus. Deleting your own work[edit]

Hi, thanks for marking Image:Area code 430.PNG for deletion. It is now gone. In future, please consider using {{db-author}} to mark pages for deletion if you created them by mistake or no longer consider them to be useful. FIPS Place Code articles[edit]

Anything over about 32kb is inadvisable for Wikipedia articles because not everyone has ADSL to access the Internet and lower bandwidths will struggle with large pages. I have seen you uploading articles today of over 500kb. See Wikipedia:How to use tables to find out how to convert those html tables into wiki-tables, and I would advise breaking the pages down into smaller sections if after conversion they are still too large. -- Francs 2000 12:42, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently my posting of the FIPS codes for various communities of the United States was considered to be (1) Not valid for an encyclopedia; (2) excessively long; (3) original material, none of which I agree with. Following the comments I decided to mark the damn pages for deletion since if people don't want my content then fine, I'll pull the damn stuff, I don't have the time or the energy to fight over it. So marking the pages for deletion, based on the statements that were made, caused my account to be blocked for vandalism! I can't win. I put pages in, they're considered "not appropriate", so rather than fight over what I think is unfair and wrong, I remove the unwanted pages, I get blocked for vandalism! You can't just blank articles here. There is process in place because once you submit anything to Wikipedia it is the property of the project and community. There's one of these templates per overlay? I see what you mean about the listing, but given they're also listed on that basis at List of North American area codes, an actual category of distinct articles seems to me preferable. Even if the separate category listings are key, use of the template space to hold a whole article (albeit a small one) seems to me odd and unnecessary. Alai 18:37, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- No articles should be in Template space. Note that it is easy to use an article as a "template" by simply putting the article name in the same kind of brackets, but with an added colon on the front of the article's name. So I would suggest that Template:Area codes 215 & 267 should be moved to Area codes 215 & 267, and then it can be transcluded as if it were a template with {{:Area codes 215 & 267}}. — Saxifrage ✎ 20:05, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image categorization[edit]

I respectfully disagree. Putting images into categories can be useful for finding images which may be appropriate for some topics.

You might be interested in Wikicommons in that case, one of Wikipedia's sister projects. On Wikipedia you should be able to find the images by looking up the respective article. As Wikipedia is in not an image gallery (Wikicommons is) there should be no useful images which cannot be found this way. Images which are not used and have a free licnese should probably be moved to Wikicommons, unused images which are "fair use" should generally be deleted. —Ruud 22:13, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blue template[edit]

Area code 845 Map[edit]

The New Jersey area codes are incorrectly labeled--201/551 is Northeastern N.J. (roughly Bergen County, top right of the state), whereas 973/its overlay are to the left of this area. Area code articles[edit]

Paul - First off, thanks for apparently singlehandedly creating all the area code articles! I noticed that right now there is an article for Area codes 281, 713 & 832 as well as Area code 832, Area code 713, and Area code 281. It seems to me that the area codes that cover the same area should be kept combined in one article and the others should be changed to redirects. Each one of the articles, 832, 713 and 281 are simply one-line transclusion macros for the article containing all three. The reason for this is so that the article for 832 can have a link [[Category:Area codes in the United States|832]] and 281 can have the same link for 281. This can't be done with a redirect page (or at least, I don't think so). Otherwise, what happens is in the "Area codes in the United States" category, you'd get a link for 281, 713 and 832 instead of one link for each area code. When good tables go bad...[edit]

I came across this http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_counties_in_Connecticut&diff=48963702&oldid=45243451 while clicking on Random article. It's really really ugly. If it's going to be in a table (questionable per Wp:lists#Tables). Could you tidy it up (since I guess you applied the same table in other articles...) - I would suggest breaking the table into columns i.e. Name, FIPS code, Formed, Historic county seat, and merging the two tables together - and leaving out the state FIPS code entirely. New York State area codes[edit]

It seems that the set of images you have created for New York State area code coverages, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Area_code_347.png et al), incorrectly include Westchester and Nassau counties in the same region as the 4 outer boroughs of New York City. I am pretty sure those should be included in 914 and 516, respectively. Are the source images in such a format that you can easily change this? NYC area code map problem[edit]

Hi. It seems to me that the area code maps that show the NYC area as an inset include portions of New York State that are not part of New York City, namely, the inclusion of Nassau and Westchester Counties as part of NYC. BadJPEG tag on Image:Gulf.jpg[edit]

Hello, Rfc1394. I see you removed the {{badJPEG}} tag on Image:Gulf.jpg, saying that the JPEG is 4K, but when converted to PNG it becomes 24K. I have restored the {{badJPEG}} tag on this image. I have no doubt that converting this JPEG directly to a PNG increases the file size dramatically; that's because the JPEG image suffers from compression artifacts, and saving all of these compression artifacts in a PNG requires a large file. To replace this JPEG with a PNG, someone will need to clean up all the compression artifacts first in a graphics editor, or find a non-JPEG version (such as a GIF) and convert that to a PNG. I did exactly that. I did not directly convert to PNG; I converted it to a different, non-compressed format, then saved as PNG. I recreated the image in a non-compressed format that stores the image as-is without compression artifacts, exited the editor, loaded the new image in and saved it as PNG. It is still 6 times as large as a PNG image as it is as a JPEG. I tried again, with the compression artifact-free image using The Gimp at maximum compression for PNG, and it's still 20K. In short, there is no way to get this image to be less than quadruple the size of a jpeg as a PNG. I have therefore again removed the 'badjpeg' tag because it is misleading, the PNG format would be worse. If you're going to make claims such as that a jpeg file is worse than a png file, I think it would make more sense to verify your claims - as I have done - before you make them. It is unreasonable to just blatantly make unverified claims when others actual experience dictates otherwise. It's also unreasonable to force people on dial-up lines to have to take more than six times as long to load an image simply over some theory that is totally wrong. If my tone is a little harsh, please note I'm not happy that you just blithely presumed something, then come along and make unwarranted changes without even asking me about it. Okay. I've redrawn the logo to get rid of the compression artifacts. I saved the image as a PNG. The new image, Image:Gulf.png, is 1,454 bytes. The old image, Image:Gulf.jpg, is 3,987 bytes. Introducing Templates[edit]

Paul, I'll assume that you had the best of intentions when creating the template:human Sexuality. Many of us editors consider it extremely unfriendly when you go adding a template to pages that we spend alot of work on without any discussion first. In this case the page was a disclaimer page that is not allowed by wikipedia. I had to personally go through most of the pages that you added it to, and remove it, a big pain in the butt for me, and a waste of my time.

If you have an interest in sexuality articles, we have a wikipedia project, Wikipedia:WikiProject Sexology and sexuality that you could join, and then when you want to do something like that, you can get consensus amongst other people first', and then not risk stepping on lots of toes. Image copyright problem with Image:LiIon 300x165.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:LiIon 300x165.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Help! In deriving an overall list scheme into which all United States newspapers may be categorized, I attempted to duplicate your work and create transclusion links for the Inhabited insular areas on the List of all newspapers in the United States. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Would you mind taking a crack at it and seeing if you can get the transclusion for the Inhabited insular areas on the List of all newspapers in the United States to work? Thanks. Okay, here's what was incorrect: When there was a link such as [[List of newspapers in Bajo Nuevo Bank|Bajo Nuevo Bank]] which appears as Bajo Nuevo Bank, then using that as a link, it must be exactly identical when transcluded, so that the link used would have to be like this: {{:List of newspapers in Bajo Nuevo Bank}}. When you had it transcluded, you had it as {{:List of newspapers in the Bajo Nuevo Bank}} There was an extra the present in the transclusion link. I spent about eight hours trying to sort out all the United States newspaper stuff.
