You're right, he's putting them in the wrong place... I'll rv his additions and then leave him a note, if he ignores that then I think it's a case for WP:ANI - hopefully someone will take heed ;-) ScarianCall me Pat 23:16, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi. You just sent me a message saying that I made an inappropriate edit to an article I don't remember ever visiting on a movie I've never heard of. I'm not offended, but I find it somewhat alarming that this vandalism was linked to my profile. Just thought I'd let you know. --72.26.64.159 —Preceding comment was added at 00:53, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Yup, that's because your I.P. address is dynamic. That means someone went on Wikipedia before you without logging in and obviously caused a little bit of trouble... Dynamic IP's sometimes switch so one person could have one for 5 minutes whilst another could have them for days... The way to cure it is to create an account (Recommended) or to find a static IP address :-) - If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. ScarianCall me Pat 09:51, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Sure thing! :-) - Does he require a warning/friendly notice? ScarianCall me Pat 12:38, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Ah, I see you've given him one... I'll report him for 3RR if he steps over again... but I think it might be unfair though... his English isn't too great and he might not even understand the warning. ScarianCall me Pat 12:40, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
The edit summaries all point him to the project guidelines. He is just a fanboy who wants as much Queen coverage as he can get. Some band still have articles for every song. Most are slowly being done away with... like Queen's were... it's hard to move forward when editors keep taking us 2 steps back. 156.34.218.194 (talk) 12:58, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi

Hello I have recieved a message that I have been vandilizing wikipedia. Note that I have not been vandelizing wikipedia. I recieved a message that the rom hacks list is not an appropiate topic for wikipedia so I removed it. [1]

Okie dokie, I did think you vandalising it because you blanked it. I've restored the blanked version now and I have requested speedy deletion. I shall remove the warning :-) - Thanks for reminding me to do that. ScarianCall me Pat 15:33, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Im sorry about that. I wasn't intentially vandelising wikipedia, (The stuff I wrote was true) but I admit I rushed the article without reading the "My first article" page first. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anthall1991 (talkcontribs) 15:38, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Don't worry, mate. If you need any help don't be afraid to ask. Why don't you take a look at Wikipedia:Introduction? It should give you background information on what Wikipedia is and how it works :-) ScarianCall me Pat 15:41, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

I am really confused

Hi again, As administators rather users ask than to take matters into their own hands. I was wondering do you know how I can improve the article GoodTools, as I have read all the "editing articles" and "my first article" (Even though I am not actually the page creator) and can't find any rules the page is breaking in the guidelines, as GoodTools are used for ROMS EVERYWHERE. Its just Fran has put a message that it is not a very useful article and wants me to improve. I am just really confused.

Sorry to be a pain. Anthall1991 (talk) 15:56, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Don't worry, you're not being a pain ;-) - Okay, from the brief look I had there... I think you need more reliable sources... maybe online newspaper articles or anything non-bias or non-related to the company that makes them. Just anything that helps assert the significance of the article. I hope that at least helps a little. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask me. Current FF pic

You know, I don't love it, but it was the best free image I could find on Flickr at the time. It's got the whole band, plus the logo. We can take another pass to see if there's something better out there now.

I think I'm more ticked that some jackass speedy-deleted the main Nirvana picture. (I listed it at Deletion Review to see if I can get the decision overturned - the reason he gave for deleting it aren't grounds for speedy deletion.) -- ChrisB (talk) 00:49, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

The easiest way to find pictures on Flickr (that we can use) is to go here and check all three boxes under Creative Commons before searching. (For Wikipedia use, they have to be unrestricted - ie, they can't be marked "non-commercial use only".) And you'll see pretty quickly - most of the available free ones really really suck. -- ChrisB (talk) 01:53, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Nah. Seems like mostly the same stuff from the last time I looked. I keep hoping that more images will get uploaded as the tour progresses. (It'd be great to find a group shot taken at a meet-and-greet - the width of any live shot containing the whole band seems like the biggest problem with these pics.) -- ChrisB (talk) 23:44, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

This page was not vandalised. It was actually correctly updated as the most important match of the season took place recently. You may notice that this ip adress is attached to Winchester College. Please can you stop reverting these edits! 81.105.181.49 (talk) 19:01, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

I reverted it because it seems like WP:OR and it needs sourcing. I'm going away from the computer for a while so I'll leave this note on your talk page. Please could you clean up the addition and, if possible, source it? Thank you. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. ScarianCall me Pat 19:11, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Are you sure that was vandalism?

Have another look at User talk:66.100.163.146. See also Wikipedia:Help desk#trying to correct an error. Are you quite sure that was vandalism? Some of the other edits appear to be constructive, as explained in the help desk message. If you're not sure whether an edit is a good-faith edit or not, you can just revert it and not place a warning template on the user's talk page. It's also a good idea, whether you place a warning template or not, to place a welcome template if it's a new user who hasn't received one yet. --Coppertwig (talk) 02:03, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, Scarian, for your response to this situation at the help desk and user talk page. And on an unrelated note, thanks for reverting this: Charming sentiment, but somewhat out of place. I wrote Chinese Democracy, an A-class article, I think it's good enough to be a GA but it's unreleased so it can't have that status. That's the only major contribution I've made. It's nothing big, though. I helped get the Axl Rose article to GA but User:DanielEng did most of the work himself. Article writing isn't my strong-point - I mostly make small edits here and there, like this, I found that page with the random article function and wrote a bit in the lead and added an image. edit

Hi. My edit wasn't vandalism. I was reverting it back to the orignal, which was back to the true encyclopedic version of that article. I accidentally saved a format I was only playing with. The discussion with Jamie will give you the history. Sorry about that. I will only play in sandboxes when I want to learn formats/templates for now on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.46.253.166 (talk) 16:39, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Undoing the addition of a redirect is pretty suspect. Especially in the previous edit where a user undid another of your edits, it seems very much like vandalism. But, of course, I'm not away of any previous history to do with the article/redirect in question... Why not create an account? :-) ScarianCall me Pat 16:46, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
OK, I see. I will make an account. Thanks. :) --72.46.253.166 (talk) 16:49, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Hi, y'all. Just wanted to insert my two cents about this. When I reverted 72.46.253.166's edit (my revert), I was reverting it because s/he had inserted the {{delete}} tag into the article, probably thinking it would delete the content of the page and return it to normal (with the redirect) rather than post up a speedy-deletion notice. It looked like a good faith edit rather than intentional vandalism, so I've been kind toward the user when reverting it, assuming it was good faith. After they made a comment on my talk page about restoring it to the previous version with the redirect, I thought it was the best thing to do, since Ali al-Sistani has been a redirect to Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani since April 2006. I understand your concern about their first edit (adding content to the page), but with the "oops - mistake" edit summary, I figured it was an innocent mistake rather than intended vandalism. I don't think that this editor is necessarily at fault or should be labeled a vandal unless there's evidence for that. I hope that helps some. :) --JamieS93 17:26, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Hi. I registered for an account. The edit was in good faith. I don't want to revert it back because someone else will see a new user and revert it again. Sorry I caused some mayhem. --Bluetoblackin miami (talk) 17:53, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism

Greetings, Scarian. I see you have recently put a warning on this IP's talk page for vandalism. Thank you. I would like to tell you that this is a school IP from George Washington Academy, an American high school in Morocco. I am not the one who made those edits; I am in fact a very devoted Wikipedian. I think you should probably contact the school administration via their website in case of repeated vandalism from this IP in order to enforce disciplinary measures against the students responsible for the degradation of the encyclopedia. Wiki mentoring

Hey there Mr. 100. Got a favour. I have been assisting User:Sssoul as he works on adding citations and formatting for a few guitar player lists. He is very keen on learning all the fine tunings of Wikipedia and asks lots of questions specific to the pages he is working on. I am not always around to provide him answers (when I know the answers)... and rather than just send him to the help desk I thought I might ask someone (you) directly to be of some assistance when he has any wiki-roadblocks.(help desk is more general... it's nice when the "helper" knows the direction the "helpee" is trying to get to... y'know wha' I mean?) If you want to help out just introduce yourself to Mr. Sssoul and tell him Libs sent ya. He is really getting the gist of it all. But a link to the odd policy/guideline helps along the way. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 13:18, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

PS. I am going to borrow your Sanbbox2 to work on a band template. Once I get it into shape can you actually create the Template article and just copy/paste my navbox out of your sandbox into the article? It's just a simple little box for the band Blue Oyster Cult. Shouldn't take long. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 13:45, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

sssoul here - but i'm a she-sssoul! (my guitar-geekiness often leads people to assume i'm male - isn't that interesting - but ... well, i'm not!)
pleased to meet you, Pat, and thanks for the help. i do have a sort-of-immediate question about the Jagger/Richards page - i marked a couple of things as needing citations, but (see the discussion page there) if i understand policy here right, they really are prime candidates for immediate deletion. i want to be civil and all that, though, so ... [scratching head] ... which policy prevails, the "remove it at once" policy or the "be nice first" policy? thanks Sssoul (talk) 14:06, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Hey Sssoul... one link Pat forgot to mention... WP:BOLD = BE BOLD! :D. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 14:29, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

whoops... sorry for my gender bender :D

Pat... I'm done with your sandbox.

Can you create an article called Template:Blue Öyster Cult and then copy/paste the contents of Sandbox2 into it. Leave out the nowiki/nowiki at the bottom arounf the category link... I just did that so that your sandbox would become a part of the category. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 14:23, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! IRC is annoying when you're inside a closed network with flip/floppy proxies. I've never bothered to use it. What would be my benefits? If anyone is talking top secret stuff about me behind by back... I don't want to know :D . 156.34.142.110 (talk) 16:10, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Pat, thanks for having a look at that contentious stuff on the Jagger/Richards page and confirming my sense of it - i'm still a bit reluctant to delete those bits, since calling these issues "emotion-laden for some fans" is a total understatement, and for better or worse my screen name here will be recognizable to people who frequent Stones fan forums and often get er "emotion-laden". i'll try eliminating the most dubious bit first, how's that, and if you or some other editor can add a comment supporting that, that would be great. meanwhile, i'll look into downloading the chatzilla gizmo ... thanks again for your good help. I was hoping someone, somewhere, had one written already! You would think there would be, no? With all the warning of vandals going on? Enigma msg! 16:16, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Yeah - I noticed that. Sorry. I left him a message on his talk page. Again, Sorry - Milk's Favorite Cookie 17:34, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

The article should be deleted... have all the IP's edits been undone? ScarianCall me Pat 00:24, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I undone'd them all. Check out Ictaros (talk · contribs). A linkspammer. I done undid all of his doin's too. Should have his link blacklisted though just to be on the safe side. 156.34.216.55 (talk) 00:44, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Okie dokie, I'll make some inquiries about black listing the link. Good catch. ScarianCall me Pat 00:49, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

I've rv'd that new one and I've submitted a blacklist report for the Ictatos guy. Check it out. ScarianCall me Pat 01:02, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
You need a shave Pat :D 156.34.142.110 (talk) 17:45, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
That's a goatee? :D 156.34.142.110 (talk) 18:46, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Back in November (Movember) my co-workers and I (the males) had a moustache contest as part of the "Movember" Cancer Fund Drive. Rule 1 was start the month clean shaven... something I haven't been since 1977. Rule 2... don't shave for the whole month... pretty simple. By the second week I looked like Sam Elliott in the Ghost Rider movie and my co-workers gave up :D. We still raised over $1000 donation for the Canadian Cancer Society. I usually go with the "Evil Spock" look. But, since my hair is pretty grey anyways, this whole Sam Elliott look is a keeper. Now if I only had the flaming horse. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 20:00, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Re:

Hi are you the guy that deleted my bit on the london to brighton run as I was trying to add some info. - what did I do wrong was it in the wrong place - - Well it was actuslly written by a chap called Eric Parsons but he died a few years ago. It was written for the magazine of Surrey Sporting Motor Club which has disbanded. I am the only person with the text on my computer because I was editor of the magazine and typed it up into a readable form. It contains a lot of interesting facts and I thought it worth airing for the benefit of others as the stuff that was currently on Wiki was very sketchy. There is nothing contentious and it adds some background info. Regards Geoff —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sabresix (talkcontribs) 00:48, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Please read WP:RS and WP:COPYVIO. Your additions are highly suspect and should be first discussed on the article's talk page. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. ScarianCall me Pat 00:53, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Where do I find that? Does this article have an owner that I can send a message to who edits it then? Regards Geoff —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sabresix (talkcontribs) 01:00, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Articles don't have owners buddy. But the article does have a talk page... On the article there is a discussion tab that you can click and it brings you to a page where you can propose additions to the article. I recommend that you discuss your changes there first. unsettling phenomenon

well Pat, i told you those "emotional issues" would get me! i went back to look at my nice work on the Jagger/Richards page and *all* my great changes have disappeared. they're still listed in the history, and there's no sign of anyone "undoing" them, but the article has reverted to its former state: the contentious statements are back, the "citation needed" tag is gone, the great reference i unearthed and added to footnote 5 has disappeared, and all my lovely stylistic/factual corrections have simply disappeared. i went to the chat gizmo and the person there said it's probably a "browser error" but ... [scratching head] ... it's 3AM here now so i guess i will go to sleep mystified, but if you can check it out and let me know what happened - or better yet, what i need to do to restore my good changes - that would be lovely. thanks and see you around Sssoul (talk) 02:23, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

update: call off the hounds - i found a version in the history and copy&pasted the changes back in. so all's well, i guess, but if i somehow managed to inadvertently undo them all myself while making some subsequent change - yikes, i hope i don't do that again! that was freaky. and now it's 3:40 AM so i think i'm done for the night. thanks for your support! Sssoul (talk) 02:39, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations, I have just closed your RfA as successful and made you an administrator. Take a look at the administrators' how-to guide and the administrators' reading list if you haven't read those already. Also, the practice exercises at the new admin school may be useful. Congradulations Grasshopper!

Whoever taught you knew their Wiki-sh*t :D . And now... your first admin task.. tee hee... User:Andrewk619 is stealing images online and uploading them... lying about their source and claining them as his own. He's just one in a million who do that. He warrants a warning. if he uploads a band logo then just go ahead and block him permanently :D

Y'know... now that you're an admin... you can go ahead and edit the Wiki front page. Yup... you can. Go ahead... give it a try :D .I kid, I kid 156.34.216.55 (talk) 01:44, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Done ;-) - I deleted them and also added a warning... Anything else, Master? ScarianCall me Pat 09:44, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Anything else?... hmmm?? I'll have a coffee :D .. actually you can look at the dubious uploads of this guy. They strain hard for fair-use but me thinks they are not sourced properly and are not 'permissioned' properly... it's really straining to push them into several articles and just copy/pasting the FUR out of the images that already exist in the articles he's placed his pics. Thoughts? 156.34.216.55 (talk) 01:30, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Oh man, you'd have to ask someone with a fair amount of image knowledge. I really only know the basics. Sorry, Libsey :-( ScarianCall me Pat 09:51, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't really care how many times you violated what: you asked to be blocked, and that's my ticket. :) And the Rouge Admins continue... don't you know that red links are Rouger... (click it, and you'll see the Rougest of the Rouge). · AndonicO Hail! 09:55, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Why, you did. · AndonicO Hail! 12:51, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks again

For tipping me off about the uw-warn template. I've used it like 4 times already, and when I've gotten responses, they've been positive. I'm declaring that template a success. :) Enigma msg! 03:21, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Well, now I've encountered the first problem. Guy just reverted my edit. I guess I should just leave it alone, right? After all, users are not necessarily required to warn vandals. It's just encouraged. The guy deserved the message because he did revert vandalism without leaving a message. Enigma msg! 21:03, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Childress article

The vandal has returned despite the semi-protection tag. Could I please have the rollback feature to make fixing this sort of vandalism easier? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dougweller (talkcontribs) 11:41, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Doug, after looking at your contributions I have decided that you don't quite need the rollback feature just yet. Maybe you could get WP:TWINKLE instead? Also, the roll back feature is only given to people whom have shown that they can be trusted/actually require it. Have a go with twinkle for a few weeks and get back to me and I'll see about giving it to you. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. ScarianCall me Pat 12:16, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough, I just am not clear how to easily revert and avoid the 3R problem. And I asked for it to be protected, I thought it was semi-protected, but it seems as though it isn't, so this guy is just going to keep vandalising. Thanks for the quick and useful response-- I've installed TwinkleDougweller (talk) 13:48, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

AHHH

Your page changed! Is that the result of you being an admin now? Or is that just something you added in? Peace. Blizzard Beast $ODIN$ 19:31, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Ok thanks. And thanks for the Dissection thing as well. I don't want to be banned from those pages, but if it will stop Twsx from edit warring... Blizzard Beast $ODIN$ 19:52, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

username block

Username blocks are only meant for obvious violations of the username policy. So if it ever becomes obvious that the user in question has some vendetta against red-haired people (for instance, they make offensive edits to the red hair page several times or something) then it's perfectly justified. But as it is, there's no obvious violation - maybe the person is a 10 year old kid who really hates ginger. Maybe they hate ginger-haired cats. Who knows - but it's not really enough for an indefinite block. ugen64 (talk) 23:22, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
