Welcome

Hello, Treetoes023, and Welcome to Wikipedia!

Thank you for your contributions to this free encyclopedia. If you decide that you need help, check out Getting Help below, ask at the help desk, or place {{Help me}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Please remember to sign your name on talk pages by clicking or by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username and the date. Also, please do your best to always fill in the edit summary field. Below are some useful links to help you get started. Happy editing! CollectiveSolidarity (talk) 14:59, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

An article you recently created, Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality, is not suitable as written to remain published. See the edit comment here. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Edit summaries

Wikipedia is a co-operative enterprise between editors. It is therefore necessary to leave an edit summary with every change you make. Substituting your American spelling and grammar preferences is not considered helpful. All your changes at Circe have therefore been reverted by editors, including your unsourced change to the lead section. You might find WP:MENTORship useful before you make more edits. Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to blank out or remove portions of page content, templates, or other materials from Wikipedia without adequate explanation, as you did at List of Greek mythological figures, you may be blocked from editing. ...and not just removed--removed without explanation. Please provide edit summaries. Drmies (talk) 02:51, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

Yes, Treetoes please use edit summaries. Paul August 00:21, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
@Drmies: The missing edit summaries aside, I think the edits at List of Greek mythological figures were fine (I see only minor copyedits). Paul August 00:21, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
Paul August, thank you so much. Drmies (talk) 01:32, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

Adding factually incorrect information to articles

Hello, thank you for some decent copyediting work on articles related to Norse subjects. However, either through mistake or lack of knowledge you've made some changes to meaning that have made the content incorrect, most recently on Jörð where you changed that she is the personification of earth (soil) to the earth. Please take care when editing so that you don't add incorrect content. TylerBurden (talk) 11:30, 21 September 2022 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I thought Jörð was personification of the earth in the same vane as Gaia, and not a personification of soil. I should have my research first. Treetoes023 (talk) 14:35, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
That's ok, like I said just take care making sure everything is correct and add references if needed. TylerBurden (talk) 14:40, 21 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi, please don't change redirects that point to link anchors (named targets specifically placed in articles for the purpose) to section headings. Headings can often change - plenty of people feel like tweaking their wording, repunctuating them, merging them, and so on and so forth (to coin a phrase). The point of using a link anchor is exactly to create a bit of stability in linking, so it's extremely unhelpful to replace a correct link to an anchor with a likely-soon-wrong link to a section heading. Also, I might say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is always a useful motto until one has thoroughly explored an area. Many thanks for your understanding. Chiswick Chap (talk) 21:03, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

I apologize, I was unaware of the existence of link anchors until just now. I'll make sure not to make the mistake again. Treetoes023 (talk) 21:15, 2 October 2022 (UTC)

Missing ref at Demeter article

Hiya, I just noticed your well-intentioned removal of a partial reference citing Andrew Dalby (2005) at the Demeter article. It's always worth checking these things before any drastic removal of sources. No idea who added it or removed it, but I'm 99% certain that this (see below) is the source, and have restored the short form to the article text. Could you please oblige with the addition of the full source in whichever heading is appropriate? I find the article's ref system(s) utterly chaotic. I've left a copy of this message on the talk page of the article. Thanks! Haploidavey (talk) 17:45, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

Standard ArbCom discretionary sanctions notice

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in gender-related disputes or controversies or in people associated with them. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:56, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Information icon Hi Treetoes023! I noticed that you edited another user's comment on the discussion page Talk:Decolonisation of Asia. I just wanted to let you know that as discussion pages are meant to be a record of a discussion, this is generally considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Happily888 (talk) 03:38, 9 December 2022 (UTC)

Sorry about that! Won't happen again. Treetoes023 (talk) 06:21, 9 December 2022 (UTC)

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Orthographic map projection, without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. ─ The Aafī (talk) 14:36, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Sign language into another page. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. You copied a sentence from the opening paragraph and paragraphs 3 and 4 of the 'Relationships with spoken languages' section of said article to Mutual intelligibility. Thank you. —Alalch E. 13:21, 21 December 2022 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to Talk:Decolonisation of Asia, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. January 2023

Hello, I came to apologize for the Northern America edits. I was the one who put Mexico in Northern America because the World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions says Mexico is in Northern America. I just didn't like not seeing Mexico in Central America or Northern America, but if you do not agree with the edits then I don't blame you because the UN makes it confusing so I blame them. Just wanted to let you know. Thank you, and happy new year. LostKlaus (talk) 17:46, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

@LostKlaus: There is no need to apologize! We all make mistakes, I've made many in this week alone lol. The UN makes things difficult with their many conflicting definitions and I've fallen victim to the confusion too. Just let this be a learning opportunity to generally not use the UN's definitions. I'll always be happy to help, if you ever need anything just make a new section on my talk page! – Treetoes023 (talk) 19:52, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

Article in question is about all Indeginou people of the Americas.....not just about the USA. Moxy- 05:56, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
@Moxy: I am sorry for reverting your edits and making disruptive edits, I did not know that the term "Native American" was exclusive to the Natives of the United States and not Natives of America (the Americas) as a whole. I should have stopped being stubborn and looked at the sources you provided me. – Treetoes023 (talk) 07:10, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

It should go without saying that edit-warring over WP:ENGVAR issues is a bad idea. You've already violated the three-revert rule. Talk it to the talk page. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 03:31, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

@David Fuchs: I do not believe I have done anything wrong, there is a use British English template on the article and then Seasider53 changed some spelling to the American variation so I removed it because it went against the English variety already set for this article. Then Seasider53 reverted my edit and after I reverted their edit a second time they reverted mine and tried to change the template to use American English. Seasider53 was the one that was making disruptive edits, I was simply just reverting them. Treetoes023 (talk) 03:47, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Cosmetic edits

Please read WP:COSMETICEDIT, I am not going to edit war with you about spaces not visible on the article, but the type of edits you are making are considered a waste of time for a reason, not just for yourself, but for other with articles on their watchlist. 8 bytes of article size doesn't change that. TylerBurden (talk) 05:02, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

@TylerBurden: Sorry, I was unaware of WP:COSMETICEDIT. I will provide an explanation for why I do these types of edits on Wikipedia frequently across all articles I edit. I have OCD and one of my compulsions is to remove spaces and line breaks that are technically unnecessary, I do not know when this compulsion maifested but it has led me to do these edits on almost all articles I edit on Wikipedia to the point where I have begun designating times during my day to do specifically these types of edits. I was not aware that my actions were against the rules of Wikipedia, I will try to be better. Treetoes023 (talk) 05:14, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
Well the important thing is that now you're aware of the concept, I understand that you have a condition but if everyone made such changes just based on how they personally feel it would be quite chaotic, as I'm sure you understand. But it's good that you shared information about your OCD, perhaps you could assign yourself a different task during those times? As you know there's always a lot of important work to do, such as finding references, recent changes patrol etc. TylerBurden (talk) 05:29, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
@TylerBurden: I am not sure if that will be effective or if there even is an effective solution, but I will certainly try. Thank you for being understanding. Treetoes023 (talk) 05:49, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

Please read WP:OVERLINK and refrain from linking common English language terms. Additionally also take a look at WP:NOTBROKEN and also refrain from changing links to redirects to be direct links, there are many reasons to leave them as is. Thanks. Canterbury Tail talk 00:47, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

Engvar

Do not arbitrarily add specific language templates to articles for English variations when an article is not written in that variation as you did to White hole. You cannot just decide to change the English language version of an article to suit your personal preference. Doing so is considered disruptive editing. Canterbury Tail talk 00:54, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

@Canterbury Tail: I am sorry, my intent was not to be disruptive. I just assumed the article used British English because it used dmy dates. I should have checked instead of making an assumption. Treetoes023 (talk) 02:02, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
And you did it again on an article that's clearly using en-US spelling you tagged as British English. Canterbury Tail talk 20:30, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
@Canterbury Tail: The article must be using Oxford English then because I saw "colour" being used in the article while editing which is what prompted me to add the tag. Treetoes023 (talk) 21:19, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
It uses colourful once, but color twice. Also uses center and not centre. Ize variants multiple times, and no uses of ise variants. So just a single mis-instance of a spelling, but consistently en-US in the rest of the article. Canterbury Tail talk 21:27, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

Vandalism

Please note that Wikipedia has a very clear definition of what is vandalism. Labelling other editors edits as vandalism is frowned upon. Edits made to put an article in line with the policies and MOS are not vandalism so do not label them as such. I know you reverted, but your first instinct was still to label it incorrectly as vandalism. Please read WP:VANDALISM and be careful how you label it in the future. Thanks. Canterbury Tail talk 12:02, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

Information icon Please do not move a page to a title that is harder to follow, or move it unilaterally against naming conventions or consensus, as you did to Australia (continent). This includes making page moves while a discussion remains underway. We have some guidelines to help with deciding what title is best for a subject. • yes "moved page Australia (continent) to Australian continent over redirect ‎(When referring to the continent of Australia, academic literature uses the term "Australian continent" far more frequently. Uncontroversial move; per WP:NOTRM and WP:FIXIT.)" There was absolutely no way this move was ever going to be "uncontroversial", and the policies you brandish do not back you up. This page is a long list of complaints; you seem to be slow in learning what edits are acceptable. The move policy says "The discussion process is used for potentially controversial moves. A move is potentially controversial if either of the following applies:
there has been any past debate about the best title for the page;
someone could reasonably disagree with the move."

- both applied here! Johnbod (talk) 04:51, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Treetoes023,
While it might have seemed "uncontroversial" to you, moving any long-standing article, like an article on Australia, to a different title needs to be proposed on the article talk page. Removing a parenthesis might seem like a small change but the fact is that this article has been at this title for a long time and shouldn't be moved on a whim. It's always better to propose a page move on the talk page or go to Requested Move to raise the suggestion of an article page title change. Liz Read! Talk! 06:10, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
@Liz: I understand, it won't happen again. – Treetoes023 (talk) 15:29, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Recent Move at Bengaluru Airport

Hi, I'd like to discuss the recent move at Bengaluru Airport, regardless of the eventual "outcome" of the discussion , at the point of the move there was a lack of clear consensus. The lone "!Vote" on the page referenced WP:AIRPORTNAME which is an essay not a policy or guideline (WP:PG). I had not participated in the discussion at Bengaluru Airport but was part of similar requests by the same user at AMD and BOM and I'm going to bring up the same reasons. There are loads of sources out there that use "Kempegowda International Airport". Times Now [1], live mint [2], Deccan Herald [3], The Hindu [4], The Hindu Business Line (The Hindu) [5], The New Indian Express [6], India TV [7] Bangalore Mirror [8] and aviation databases like ch-aviation [9] and CAPA [10]. Google Ngram shows that the Kempegowda International Airport has been more popular [1]. Just wanted to discuss this cheers!

Nothing to worry about, only thing is RM's can get messy (controversial and technical) at times. You just got to wait for more people to join in on the discussion and relisting the discussion is probably the best thing to do when a possibly controversial discussion has few participants, see WP:RMRELIST. Also, WP:COMMONNAME related moves tend to get controversial. Goodday! Bingobro (Chat) 07:51, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

If you do this again you will be blocked, and lose your editing privileges. This is your final warning. - CorbieVreccan 22:02, 2 April 2023 (UTC)

Ongoing issues of disruption

Adding here on your user talk what I just added to article talk: @Treetoes023: remember when you asked for advice, only a few days ago, and I said you needed to take some time to learn your way around these topics before making proposals?[3] This is inappropriate. This shows me you have not been reading and listening. You don't seem to understand the basic terminology yet. Don't waste people's time with these proposals until you know the field better. This will not happen in a matter of days. Take months to read and learn, and then reconsider. - CorbieVreccan 19:02, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

@CorbieVreccan: I apologize, I thought I had learned enough to make a proposal regarding the term "Native American". I spent the past 5 days looking into the topic before making the proposal as an attempt to better learn about the term, I know now that 5 days is much too short to learn about a topic like this. – Treetoes023 (talk) 19:17, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

Stop icon Here we go again. You are again editing Indigenous articles.[4],[5] Any reason why I shouldn't block you? I just found this disruption,[6],[7] that I missed at the time. Which led me to see you're at it again. This is showing me your promise to back off for a while does not seem to be sincere. - CorbieVreccan 22:51, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

@CorbieVreccan: Dude what. I can edit topics I am knowledgeable on, I don't know about Indigenous terminology but that has nothing to do with edits on languages and (what I thought were) copy edits on skin–walker. Where did I say I would back off from all Indigenous topics? I'm only staying away from terminology and page moving. – Treetoes023 (talk) 00:53, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
The fact that you think what you did were just copy edits, marked your content removals as such, and don't understand how they were disruptive, is part of the problem. - CorbieVreccan 19:03, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
Additionally, your claim that you have enough knowledge about some Indigenous topics has been repeatedly shown to be an inaccurate assessment. You've shown repeatedly that you don't know enough to know when you don't know what you're doing. So when you promised not to edit in areas where you don't have enough experience, it was reasonable to assume, based on how you had harmed Indigenous articles in general, that you meant Indigenous articles in general, not just the ones where you personally feel you have a lack of knowledge. - CorbieVreccan 19:25, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

[Edit conflict]

Ok this simply looks bad...we have a new editor doing what they think is best.I am wondering if we can explain more before some random block. I am seeing a bigger problem here WITH THE APPROCH TO NEW EDITORS. Moxy- 19:18, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
Moxy, this editor has had things explained to them on a handful of different pages, by multiple admins and editors in good standing, for quite a while now. For you to characterize it as a "random block" means you have not thoroughly assessed the situation. This user is not that new, and they moved a whole bunch of pages without discussion, then fought people about it. Another admin has already reviewed this. - CorbieVreccan 19:25, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
Agree there is a small' problem whith some page moves ...but labeling this editor as a problem editor is a problem in itself. Clearly they are doing their best and have knowledge problems as they come up. Hoping they will learn and stay. Moxy- 21:00, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

Request reason:

Hello, I am requesting to be unblocked. The user CorbieVreccan blocked me for making edits on pages related to the Indigenous peoples of the Americas on the basis that I claimed I would not edit on any Indigenous topics. This is untrue, I said I would stay away from topics I was unknowledgeable of, which I did. CorbieVreccan has reverted many of my edits on Indigenous topics solely on the basis that I promised not to edit them (which I did not), regardless of if they are disruptive or not. I believe this blocking was unjust as the blocker misrepresented what I said to achieve this block and is trying to bar me from a wide topic of articles due to my lack of knowledge (and admittedly poor decisions) regarding a small part of the whole topic. – Treetoes023 (talk) 01:12, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

Decline reason:

If this were an indefinite block I'd look into this, but ... it's a 48-hour block. You'd be better off taking the time off to reflect on how you might avoid this happening again in the future and letting it expire. — Daniel Case (talk) 06:47, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Hi

Hi, can I ask you a little favor? (An edit) 87.5.5.177 (talk) 23:44, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

Sure! I may not be able to fulfill your request depending on what the edit is though. – Treetoes023 (talk) 00:40, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, it's about the Harry Potter article. At the end of the introduction, there's written "...a digital platform on which J. K. Rowling updates..." and I think that the "a" before "digital platform" should not be part of the link 87.5.5.177 (talk) 01:28, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
I see why you would think that, but there is actually a reason for that. The "a" at the beginning is meant to signify that the link is to an article about a specific digital platform, and not an article about digital platforms in general. Hope this helps! – Treetoes023 (talk) 04:42, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
Oh, I get it! Thanks 87.5.5.177 (talk) 10:15, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
So was I right or not to remove "a" from the link of "CIA lawyer" in this case? ---> The show follows Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo), a CIA lawyer who becomes involved... 87.5.5.177 (talk) 10:34, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
You were right to remove the "a", good job! – Treetoes023 (talk) 19:51, 7 May 2023 (UTC)

Hynden Walch

Are you certain that site was actually made by Walch herself and is not just some fansite? Because it has an IMDB link that's just right below that bio. And do you know when that site was made? Because there's an archived link of her IMDB page that contains that bio that was archived back in 2016. The furthest archive link of the other site only goes back to 2020.

WP:Middle-earth ref format

Treetoes123, all Middle-earth articles have a list of sources called Sources, and for that matter a list of references called References and if need be a list of notes called Notes. Would be grateful if this was respected. Thanks. Chiswick Chap (talk) 06:13, 10 June 2023 (UTC)

July 2023

Information icon Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles as you apparently did to Indian reservation. Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. There is no need to add or substitute "Native American" to articles that have sourced, consensus text that includes "Indian". No one should be adding unsourced OR to articles. And this, in particular, is an area you don't have enough experience in and have been warned about. - CorbieVreccan 21:09, 9 July 2023 (UTC)

@CorbieVreccan: I understand why you are suspicious of my edits as I have made numerous mistakes in the past, but I did not add unsourced OR to Indian reservation. I put "also known as a Native American reservation" in the lede, well, because they are also known as that. It is literally in the about template used on the article. – Treetoes023 (talk) 21:24, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
Just leave it be. - CorbieVreccan 21:30, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
@CorbieVreccan: I don't understand, why do I need to leave it be? The term "Native American reservation" appears multiple times in the article and by sources used in the article. I don't believe that I am violating any policies or guidelines with my edit. – Treetoes023 (talk) 22:59, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
I still think you're not experienced enough to be making decisions about editing even things that appear minor to you in Native American articles. Per all the hassles you caused the community:[8] Leave it to other editors to decide. - CorbieVreccan 17:39, 10 July 2023 (UTC)

Oceania

I pinged you from Commons, but I'm not sure if that worked, so just letting you know that Oceania map is done. Please check it and let me know if you see an issue with it. M.Bitton (talk) 17:20, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

@M.Bitton: It looks great, thank you for your help! The updated version really helps visualize how many islands there are in the pacific. Could you make a version of the map with enough islands to create a file size of 2 MB? I am curious to see if it would improve the map further or be overkill. Of course, if it would be too much of a hassle to create then don't bother making it, the map now is great, I'm just curious what a 2 MB map would look like and if it would be even better, the 2 MB version is not a necessity. – Treetoes023 (talk) 18:49, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

Romance

You say you're still learning the ropes. One important thing to learn is to avoid edit warring. If you want to discuss mis-labeling Romance as Latin, that can be done in talk pages. Please adopt that strategy. Barefoot through the chollas (talk) 15:32, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

@Barefoot through the chollas: Excuse me? I am not "mis-labeling Romance as Latin", Romance languages are also called Latin languages... you know... because they're descended from Latin. – Treetoes023 (talk) 15:42, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Actually, you and I are descended from our parents, grandparents, etc. Discrete existences. (Spoken, popular...) Latin to the Romance languages is a continuum, no discrete existences, no births, no dying of predecessors, etc., just many centuries of gradual ongoing evolution. The "irony" in this context is that once that's understood, your contention that Romance languages are called Latin really does make perfect sense: they're all "Latin, only later", in the words of a well-known Romanist (steeped in the Romance linguistics literature, you know who that is, and where s/he published it). Nevertheless, for the sake of convenience, so as not to confuse the language of Cicero's time with the language(s) of Dante, Cervantes, Voltaire... Lucio Dalla, Ricardo Arjona, Johnny Hallyday... for many centuries the Romance languages have been referred to by local names. In fact, Dante's a good example. He wrote some things in Tuscan, others in Latin, and there's no confusing the two for those who try to read them. The world has accepted that. Latin is called Latin, its modern evolutions are called Romance collectively or, individually, French or Italian or Dijonnais and Bolognese. C'est la vie. // Again, it you want to discuss this, by all means do, on the talk page of the Romance article. Present substantive expert testimony that Istro-Romanian and Béarnais are called Latin in English. But stop edit warring. Barefoot through the chollas (talk) 16:55, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
@Barefoot through the chollas: I am not edit warring, a single revert is not an edit war. I suggest you read Wikipedia:Edit warring. – Treetoes023 (talk) 18:09, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Good that you don't want to continue warring. Thanks. You won't object, then, if the text is corrected, and you can begin a thread on the article's talk page for any further discussion. Before you do, if you're actually interested in Romance languages, you can achieve some level of understanding by perusing this: Martin Maiden & Adam Ledgeway, eds. The Oxford Guide to the Romance Languages. Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2016. Barefoot through the chollas (talk) 18:41, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
@Barefoot through the chollas: Once again, there was no edit war (read Wikipedia:Edit warring), and there is nothing to revert because my edits are sourced. Repeating a false statement doesn't make it true. – Treetoes023 (talk) 19:06, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Concentrate. Try not to miss the point: "also known as the Latin [...] languages", is misinformation if presented with no indication that that nomenclature is at best infrequent and colloquial, confusing, not adopted by anyone engaged in the serious study of the languages in question. Barefoot through the chollas (talk) 14:29, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
