Conflict of interest in Wikipedia
[edit]Hi Vinhloc30796. I work on conflict of interest issues here in Wikipedia, along with my regular editing. Your edits to date are on all focused on Republic and are typical of a conflicted editor. I'm giving you notice of our Conflict of Interest guideline and Terms of Use, and will have some comments and requests for you below.
Hello, Vinhloc30796. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. Editing for the purpose of advertising or promotion is not permitted. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.
Comments and requests
[edit]Wikipedia is a widely-used reference work and managing conflict of interest is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it. As in academia, COI is managed here in two steps - disclosure and a form of peer review. Please note that there is no bar to being part of the Wikipedia community if you want to be involved in articles where you have a conflict of interest; there are just some things we ask you to do (and if you are paid, some things you need to do).
Disclosure is the most important, and first, step. While I am not asking you to disclose your identity (anonymity is strictly protecting by our WP:OUTING policy) would you please disclose if you have some connection with Republic, directly or through a third party (e.g. a PR agency or the like)? You can answer however you wish (giving personally identifying information or not), but if there is a connection, please disclose it. After you respond (and you can just reply below), I can walk you through how the "peer review" part happens and then, if you like, I can provide you with some more general orientation as to how this place works, which will help you get the article created, or to understand why it cannot be created, at this time. Please reply here, just below, to keep the discussion in one place. Thanks! Jytdog (talk) 07:12, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hello Jytdog. Thank you for the notice. I would like to disclose that I'm working with and paid for by Republic. I did add the disclosure on top of Draft:Republic_(crowdfunding_platform) as you may have seen already. I actually look forward to the peer review and further steps - those will help tremendously in improving the article, which I truly believe is valuable in the crowdfunding and startup scene.
- I'm also drafting my research on the AngelList article in my personal space - there is a COI here too since Republic is affiliated with AngelList. However, I'm not paid by AngelList. I'd really appreciate your guidance on how to best approach editing the AngelList article.
- Thank you again for helping.
- Vinhloc30796 (talk) 17:56, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for your gracious reply. Would you please clarify -- are you an employee of Republic, an employee of a digital PR firm that has Republic as a client, or freelancing (self-employed and working under contract). Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 18:10, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for the prompt reply, Jytdog. I'm freelancing. Vinhloc30796 (talk) 18:27, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- Jytdog - I'm just following up on whether you have received my last message. How's the progress with the peer-review? What should I do next with AngelList article now that my draft is done? Vinhloc30796 (talk) 22:50, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion
[edit]There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident with which you may be involved. Thank you. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:50, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
- Robert McClenon Hey Robert, thank you for the notice. Although the movement to delete the Republic article saddens me, I do understand why. However, I do have a good understanding of the equity crowdfunding ecosystem - a lot of the Wikipedia articles on equity crowdfunding platforms are very bad. I'd like to improve these articles as a way to build my contribution and experience up until I'm ready for the Republic article. In fact, the edits on AngelList (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=AngelList&oldid=839659496) are mine. Please do let me know what you think, especially regarding whether or not I can even add to articles on equity crowdfunding due to my COI in working for Republic). Speedy deletion nomination of User:Vinhloc30796/sandbox
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on User:Vinhloc30796/sandbox, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
- It appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free Web hosting service. (See section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion.)
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. - Hello hello @Compusolus! Thank you for your zappy response!
- I've removed bad sources & added better sources. I've also added some controversies & negativities to the subject, hoping to make it more neutral.
- Am I on the right direction? Vinhloc30796 (talk) 13:47, 12 November 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, on the right track. Good work. Compusolus (talk) 03:27, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- Maybe worth taking a look at Republic_(fintech) @331dot @Compusolus because that got published way quicker than Draft:Republic_(platform) using the same content. Vinhloc30796 (talk) 12:06, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, on the right track. Good work. Compusolus (talk) 03:27, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- I see that you mention that you are paid by Republic above, please place the formal paid editing disclosure on your user page(User:Vinhloc30796). Ideally you should also avoid directly editing the article about your company, instead making formal edit requests(click for instructions). 331dot (talk) 09:01, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- I'm no longer working with them - I've left the company since 2020. Vinhloc30796 (talk) 09:09, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- Okay. Do you still work in their field? 331dot (talk) 09:13, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- Not in crowdfunding or fintech anymore. I'm still working in software though. Vinhloc30796 (talk) 09:15, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- Okay. Thanks 331dot (talk) 11:53, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
