Any chance you could pop over and have a look at this article with your assessing/reviewing eyes for me? Harrias (talk) 21:41, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've made a few tweaks, and it is quite short for a guy who had 150 games and was a High Court official. I know he only averaged 30 and didn't score much, but why is it considered unlucky/dubious that he didn't get selected for Tests when he was a specialist batsman and averaged only 30 at FC, especially as with so many FC teams in England the talent is sometimes diluted and a lot of people can make colossal amounts of runs YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 01:07, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, your comments and tweaks are much appreciated (although I'm now having to go over all my other edits and fix the refs!) I agree that the page is quite short considering his career(s), but as I'm sure you can appreciate, it's hard going trying to find references for a lot of it. As regards his lack of Test selection, I'm basing this purely on the sources (Foot and Lawrence); clearly both are books about Somerset, and thus likely to be biased in his favour, but I speculate from what I have read that it was based on how he played as much, if not more, than how many he scored. Yes....I wonder why Dhoni wants to give Kohli more of a bat than Raina though. ???? YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 02:51, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
His batting orders are puzzling at times, he gets lucky quite often and gets away with it. With Sehwag falling early, Raina should have gone in after Tendulkar. Hope he goes with conventional wisdom today! -SpacemanSpiff 03:05, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like he got lucky today. Although it's a tough choice between Raina and Yuvraj for the no 4 slot. I'd rather have Raina/4, Yuvraj/5 and Dhoni/6 instead of the current order, especially when two wickets fall before the tenth over. -SpacemanSpiff 16:34, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Raina is good at 15-over innings though, whereas with Yuvraj, the speedup he makes once he passes 80 odd is usually quite startling, often 170+ SR YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 05:53, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't a CU block, the way it acts is just so obvious, considering that there are elss than 10 people who edit Vietnamese articles even a bit regularly. Same, borderline nn people, adding external links everywhere. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 01:43, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

YellowMonkey, is the list there, or is there still some ways to go? I'm trying to decide whether it's worth keeping the FLC open until the weekend or not. Dabomb87 (talk) 03:01, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well I added in the sentence that I asked him to add since he wasn't doing it, but I think I can add much more if I looked things up and researched it. I also left the link raw for him to fill out, but he hasn't done it, just said that it's done. I don't think that FLs should just be 2-hours of filling up the table and 1 token mechanical paragraph which is the same skeleton as for all players. In the case of Sehwag, he is generally regarded as the most swashbuckling batsman of the recent era, and as a result there is always more to the story than just racking up the runs. I dunno if you follow motor racing but he is entertaining like Juan Pablo Montoya, ultra-aggressive, and causes a few prangs whether or not he is successful. Cricket Lists

[edit]

What "spree" is that?

Not sure if you're referring to my stuff-up this morning on the "List of Australia Test Cricket Records against India", or the change I made to Keith Miller. Or is there something else? I've got the Aus vs West Indies Test records ready for this afternoon. I've been producing these in time for each new Test series, so I guess I'll now have to get stuck into Pakistan and then New Zealand. No rest, etc etc.--Perry Middlemiss (talk) 02:39, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was referring to the flurry of cricket lsits at WP:FLC and wondering if you were joining the party YellowMonkey (bananabucket!) 05:27, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, hadn't even noticed. Stuck in my own little world I guess. Just plugging away. Wondering if I should be doing Test lists by venue after this. No, that way madness lies.--Perry Middlemiss (talk) 21:47, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Abhishek Bachchan is today widely perceived to be a moderately successful actor but one incapable of ensuring a movie's success on his own steam. The few successful movies he has appeared in have been in a supporting actor capacity, the only exception being the 2007 Guru."
This is untrue, and in addition to being nonsensical and stupid, it is unsourced, and the only source you can find is this bollywoodmantra.com (a completely unreliable source) film review, which proves absolutely nothing. TFA 11 Nov

[edit]

G'day mate, was just checking the TFA queue/requests and surprised to see nothing in line for Rememberance Day, 11 November. It occurred to me that Arthur Henry Cobby would be a natural, seeing as he was a great figure of World War I and he died on that day. It'd pick up a point for me not having had a TFA before as well but not sure if it'd garner anything more - think it's worth a shot? Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 12:32, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, didn't look up high enough on the TFAR talk page to see 11 Nov was being discussed so mentioned it there as well... Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 12:56, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Tks for support mate, unfortunately as I was about to officially nom it on TFAR I noticed on the TFA queue that Raul had just filled the slot for 11 Nov (nothing WWI-related however). Left a msg on his talk page suggesting reconsideration so I think I've done all I can for the moment... Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 23:59, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • That's not the way it works, TPH. If you have a FAR nom that is well into the process, with consensus forming or nothing happening, then you can add another as long as you don't abuse and the page isn't backlogged. What you can't do is load them up, back to back. And nomming an article with no problems, without consulting the article talk, isn't good practice :) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:52, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you pick the really neglected ones, where the authors and the wikirpoject are gone, then they will cruise through in four weeks, and because you can add another if the first is winding down in three weeks, usually. If the author is still active or the project is robust, then they might fix it and it lasts 2 months, so the talk page might be useful that way, but it is true that many only care for the star and will do the least possible and will do nothing to keep improving the article once it passes until/unless it gets FARed and put under the hammer. Can you add comments here -- India women ODI FLC? Looks like there are too many cricket lists, so no one's commenting. Did you watch the game? Very Tendulkarish, didn't watch, just followed on cricinfo. -SpacemanSpiff 01:09, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Very harsh, but all he had to do was stay in and India would have won comfortably. 19 from 18 balls with 4 wickets is easy now days. Silly paddle shot, I don't think he played it all innings - great knock though. Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 01:12, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody comments on the FACs either. No I didn't watch, I don't have Pay TV, I did see snippets on the news of Munaf bowling very slowly and lethargically and a stack of short balls that barely got to groin height and were easily pulled away by Watson and Marsh. Very poor. Interesting that Dhoni doesn't trust Jadeja too much, promoting Harbhajan ahead of him. :( YellowMonkey (bananabucket) (help the Invincibles Featured topic drive) 01:21, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nobody comments on the FACs either, per comments about the Fourth Test above, and hopefully the two remaining GAs for the featured topic don't sit there for three months. The ABC usually buy the rights to ODIs in England and NZ, sometimes South Africa, but it appears that in those countries the radio rights are given to the public broadcaster on the cheap. Maybe in India the BCCI sells them very expensively as I think a lot more would be interested in India ODIs, as they are stronger. Still, the local radio had about 20-minute score updates, among the guy's weekly chat with a US woman in NY for the weekly happensings he kept on saying "India are up to 300, 310,..." she couldn't believe the amount of runs. I don't know why people like SRT and Rohit like to paddle scoop so much, with these modern bats, even a mishit has a good chance of a six. Rohit expecially hits lots of 4/6 in the V then he tries reverse/addle sweep and gets out. Only hopeless players like Uthappa who can't play should use the paddle scoop repeatedly. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) (help the Invincibles Featured topic drive) 01:21, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bowling still pretty awful though. India can't win the WC with this Real Madrid style situation of all these destructive batsmen and straw-strength bowling/defending/fielding. They can't rely on 380+ [4 goals] each game... YellowMonkey (bananabucket) (help the Invincibles Featured topic drive) 01:21, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
BCCI must charge a lot for radio coverage. I remember ABC didn't cover the SL series in 2004 because of budget issues. The Olympics and India Tests were on later that year. Nehra is a dreadful fielder, luckily Ponting took the powerplay after 34 overs, despite getting out Aus scored 45 and continued on from there. Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 01:26, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Radio commentary within India is "free rights" to All India Radio as a public service and mandated by the govt. Not sure about overseas rights though. Watching games here in the US is pretty expensive, don't even get the pay stream on Cable, need satellite. Alternative is willow.tv but then it's PC only (no mac) and the streaming quality isn't always great. Was surpised by Harbhajan going ahead of Jadeja too, I also stand by my earlier position fo Raina going in at 4, Yuvi's good at that spot when he gets going, but... Munaf's bowling is kinda peaks and valleys, you hardly know if it's the same guy on different days, not much esle to choose from. For this game, he could have given Sachin or Sehwag a couple of overs, especially as there's hardly a chance it could've gotten any worse. -SpacemanSpiff 02:42, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No haven't read. Will do when I get the chance, busy at the moment. Also, why did you revert Jeff's edits. Surely this will get you into trouble. Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 06:01, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

List of international cricket centuries by Adam Gilchrist‎ Your info not appreciated. Lol! Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 09:12, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think I'd have been better off not expanding Gilly and Tiger, frankly. From TRM's comments on his talk about errors "now present", I think I'd rather stay away. It's easier that way. If I don't speak up, Brianboulton sees all the cricket FAs nowadays anyway. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) (help the Invincibles Featured topic drive) 09:14, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Why? You improved Gilly and Tiger a lot. Interesting that Moondyne (Ian) was often at WP cric in its early days, so was Nichalp. I didn't think they had much to do with cricket. Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 09:18, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, sometimes when you go and clean up a house, other people resent it, because implicitly they might take it as an implicit message that they maintained a dirty house. I know a few people who get angry when other people in the house take it upon themselves to tidy things. Plz continue fixing my messes! Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 09:24, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a big deal. It doesn't take a guy to explicitly get angry on a FAC or whatever to know that on average a person would feel more relaxed or happier with a straight support. YellowMonkey (bananabucket) (help the Invincibles Featured topic drive) 09:27, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I should probably start doing Hassett! Nearly there... Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 09:31, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Expanded Michael Slater. Nothing about his career as yet. Couldn't believe how poor the article was! Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 09:39, 9 November 2009 (UTC)'[reply]
Also, won't be on until after 6. Will put some Hassett stuff on then. Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 20:46, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quite a few long term 1980s-1990s Test players are very undeveloped: Gillespie, McDermott, Boon, M Hughes some more YellowMonkey (bananabucket) (help the Invincibles Featured topic drive) 01:58, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Boon is ok. Easier to write when you have a book. Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 02:53, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I know, but heaps of people never research properly, only google whatever and say they're done for FA YellowMonkey (bananabucket) (help the Invincibles Featured topic drive) 03:05, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, Didn't know RM did Tiger until I checked the contribs. Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 03:21, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
