Why isin't Usenet included in this list?

It's a total crock that usenet is not included in this list. Usenet was the original "social network" on the internet, and it continues to be the only communications mechanism and method for allowing people to aggregate in "societies" and communicate with each other without corporate or government influence or censorship. Usenet is the only social network that can garantee anonymity for those that seek it.

For this wikipedia list of social networks to have even a shred of credibility, authority and completeness, Usenet must be included. The fact that this is a list of "websites" is irrelavent, because the vast majority of people do not experience any of these social networks via web-browser. This list needs to be renamed as a list of internet-based social networks, and Usenet must be added and mentioned as the original internet social network. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.91.158.197 (talk) 23:20, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

  • While I agree with you that Usenet should probably be included, please note that making statements like "total crock", "needs to be" and "must be" is not the usual, and a rarely effective, means of developing consensus on Wikipedia, which is one of the core principles by which this site works. Dwpaul Talk 23:37, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
  • The list is social networking websites. Usenet is not a website. --— Rhododendrites talk \\ 14:26, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

It was already pointed out in this section that catagorizing social networks that exist on or are reachable through the internet in terms of whether those networks exist as websites is questionable or serves no purpose other than to exclude obvious examples of social networks such as usenet. I suggest that some action be taken to remove the unnecessary critea of "website" be removed from this article and the article be renamed as a "List of Internet-based Social Networks", and usenet be included as the defacto original internet social network. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.93.26.3 (talk) 15:05, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Wordbuzz

Deskolinsore, the inclusion requirements for this page has been discussed many times. The consensus is that we only add entries to this page if they currently have an article written about them on Wikipedia. Worbuzz does not have an article. It shows up as a blue link because you created a redirect to the main Social networking service article. The requirement is more than just that the link be blue, it must be an article that is about the Social networking service. In this case it is not so the entry does not belong in the list according to consensus. -- GB fan 16:35, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Date sorting broken

Numeric years should be in front of the alpha months. Otherwise alphabetic characters bork sorting and goes all crazy when they're injected into mix. Should probably be listed as YYYY w/o any months or specific days.

XXXX Borked!

Bar abc 123

Remove Faces.com from the list, which was deleted via PROD. Also, Full Protect on this page seems like serious overkill. This page gets a fraction of the spam and instability of some of the other lists I follow. Either dozens/hundreds more should be full protected (seems unlikely) or this should go to semi. If you go down to the 213th point in the reference section, you will find a dead link.

I wish to suggest you a link replacement for the dead link. I have an interesting infographic on social media checklist which I am sure the readers of the page will be interested in reading.

Please have a look at it social media checklist

I hope this will be of use to Wikipedia and the readers as well.

I propose changing the name of this article to something like, "List of social networks". Scope and id attributes edit request

Please copy Old revision of User:Matt_Fitzpatrick/sandbox to List of social networking websites (diff from 27 July edit).

  • Puts scope attributes on table headers for accessibility purposes. (MOS:DTAB)
  • Puts id attributes on table rows, instead of inserting empty spans as targets.
  • Fixes missing "W" target and duplicate "Y" target.
