Hello[edit]

Hello WCW! Great user name. Your Indian film looks incredibly well referenced. You should be fine to publish it although with future films please be careful with WP:CRYSTALBALL. If you want help with general films ask at WP:Films talk page or ask an editor such as User:Erik, User:PC78 or User:Nehrams2020 who are central editors to the film project and do a lot of the maintenance work. We could certainly use your help on world films if this is you interest. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:51, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well I', pretty busy at present unfortunately but I recently created years in film for Tamil cinema see Tamil films of 1981 and the rest of them at Template:Indianfilmlist. I could sure use your help in filling in our lists of films by country, particularly countries like Italy, France and the Philippines. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:56, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Urimai Kural"[edit]

Hi WCW,

I've been impressed with your improved efforts at editing recently and do appreciate your recent work. However, your article about Urimai Kural is nowhere near accurate.

When the film is announced, do let me look through it to check for improvements. However, if you want it done now, you can always ask me!

Cheers.

A small fact is that an article can't be a FA until it has been released and reviewed. So it might take a good 2 years. Universal Hero (talk) 10:55, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Leave it out. Wai till it's recogniozed as a GA, before adding that. It wastes kbs unnecessarily. Universal Hero (talk) 12:18, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So, do you want it looked at now? Universal Hero (talk) 12:31, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
~I mean to look over it and remove all the unecessary stuff. And prepare it for an article status, as currently it's very much full of fanfare and rumours. Universal Hero (talk) 12:38, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll copy and paste it here, User talk:World Cinema Writer/TM and go through it section by section. Universal Hero (talk) 13:33, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Filming of Tron 2.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Filming of Tron 2.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. GAN reviews[edit]

Hi. Concerns about recent GAN reviews undertaken by yourself are being discussed at WT:Good article nominations#User:World Cinema Writer. Thanks. Jezhotwells (talk) 15:32, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to point you to Wikipedia:Reviewing good articles which is a guide on reviewing good article nominations. Jezhotwells (talk) 16:53, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would also recommend viewing GANs that have been reviewed in the past. Look to GAs that have been passed recently and look over the GA review pages. Another way for improving experience in reviewing is to write a GA of your own. Developing articles that meet guidelines and the GA criteria are the best way to learn how to review articles. I wrote several GAs before I began reviewing and it was very helpful. If you have any questions, let me know and I'll do my best to help you out. It would be helpful for your open reviews if you'd respond at the above mentioned discussion. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 18:06, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'll have a look later. I've been busy the last few days. Himalayan 10:51, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I've attempted to reword the problematic sentences in the intro and plot but the whole article is full of basic errors which will take a lot of time to sort out. I am being honest that I don't think it is ready for GA yet. I would start a peer review and address the basic problems first before you can even reconsider it. It needs to be copyedited by several people. I'll try to improve it gradually over the next few days but can't promise anything much. Himalayan 11:54, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request for review[edit]

Hi WCW, I see you've done work on many film articles. If you have time, would you be interested in reviewing (as in-depth or not in-depth as you like) Not One Less? I think this article could make FA relatively soon, but I've never worked on a film article before so I want to make sure it has everything it needs to fit the standard film article format. Thanks, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 21:03, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I checked Category:FA-Class Chinese cinema articles, but the article of the only film article listed there is currently inactive, so from there I looked at the Chinese cinema task force and saw your name listed there; when I looked at your contribs I saw that you had reviewed many film articles, so you seemed like a knowledgeable editor. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 14:52, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Preliminary comments on Spirited Away[edit]

(If you prefer to have discussion on the article's talk page instead of here, feel free to paste this over.) I just watched the movie and checked out the article, here are the main things that jumped out at me. Some are big comments, some small.

  • Plot section probably needs re-written from scratch; it seems to skip over some important parts and spend too much detail on others. I admit I haven't actually read the plot section from start to finish, but I can already tell it is probably not very coherent.
  • Cast and characters: I tend to dislike when there's plot summary mixed in with the character descriptions; plot should be in the plot section, and the only plot stuff in this section should be stuff relevant to their characterizations. (For instance, pointing out that No Face was pretty rowdy while in the bathhouse, but became well-behaved after leaving, is relevant to his personality; pointing out that he goes on to work for Zeniiba, or that Kimajii gives them train tickets, etc., is not relevant.)
    • A source is probably needed for Chihiro's family name Ogino. I don't recall seeing her family name made explicit anywhere in the movie.
    • Kimajii: "After some persuasion, he allows Chihiro to work at the bathhouse and even pretends to be her grandfather to protect her, though this ruse does not stand for long." -- I don't see why the second half of the sentence is there, I don't recall the grandfather thing ever being explicitly addressed again after the first time he says it.
    • Lin: "But there is a possibility she was once human like Chihiro, but doesn't remember." -- looks like OR.
    • File:Spirited Away Kaonashi.jpg: unnecessary fair-use image with insufficient rationale, should be deleted.
    • I think the baby is transformed into a hamster, not a mouse. Unless there's a source saying otherwise.
  • Themes and archetypes
    • "The archetypal entrance into another world clearly demarcates Chihiro’s status as one in-between." -- this sentence doesn't really explain what's archetypal about it. i assume it's referring to passing through the tunnel, and to the way the world changes at night (both of which are common tropes) but this needs to be more explicit, particularly for readers who have not seen the film.
    • There are some unincorporated or poorly incorporated quotations.
    • The final sentences of the second and third paragraphs are both unreferenced; it's unclear whether these are just summaries of the referenced material, or OR.
  • Production
    • The main part of the section relies almost entirely on one source (13; there is a tiny bit from ref 14 as well).
    • The "English adaptation" subsection...at first I was going to say it needs trimmed, but now I think it should just be entirely cut. First of all, it's entirely too much space and weight given to something not all that special (tons of movies have English adaptation, here this whole section could be replaced by a single sentence saying "the film was also dubbed into English and French" or whatnot), it's based on just one source (suggesting that there's not enough significant coverage to warrant this large subsection anyway), and most of it appears to be written from an improper tone.
  • Release: the entire Soundtrack subsection, and most of the Home media subsection, is unreferenced.
  • References: duplicate references should be merged(using <ref name= >. Also, format needs to be cleaned up (bare urls and number-links all have to be fixed).
  • General
    • The romanizations used should be standardized. It seems that right now, character names are written with double-letters for long vowels (i.e., Kamajii) whereas some other things are written with macrons (shōjo).
    • Information could probably be incorporated from the special features of the American 2-disc DVD release, which has information on production and influences, etc.

rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 00:41, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. I'm not sure how much time right now I'll be able to devote to finding and analyzing sources, doing research, and heavy rewriting...but I can at least help with copyediting, double-checking, making suggestions, etc. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 14:24, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Further comments[edit]

  • The area that probably is most in need of expansion is the release/reception section. This movie is quite famous, so I imagine there must be a lot of information—in addition to reviews, there are probably academic articles about it. There may also be other notable filmmakers, artists, etc., who cite this movie as one of their influences. Have you found any more sources for this kind of stuff?
  • For me, a good way to get started is to write out the plot section (because it's one of the easier sections—usually doesn't need any references—and allows me to start working with the material). I returned the movie to the library last week, but sometime next week I can check it out again and re-watch it to start working on rewriting the plot section in my sandbox. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 20:52, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free images in userspace[edit]

Hi WCW. I just wanted to remind you to please not use non-free images in pages you are working on in your userspace (such as User:World Cinema Writer/N). Because of the non-free content criteria, images such as film posters, covers, and screenshots can only be used in articles, not userspace, so when you bring an article into your userspace for work you should remove or comment out the images. Thanks, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 16:15, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have added another non-free image again to your user space, which I have already removed. Several editors have already told you about this, including myself. Please refrain from adding copyrighted images to user pages. If you want to copy and paste an article, be sure to remove the images. If you do not understand the explanation provided at WP:USER, please let me know if you need clarification. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 07:22, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Aishkisshrithik.jpg[edit]

⚠
Thanks for uploading File:Aishkisshrithik.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

I have nominated The Avengers (2012 film), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Avengers (2012 film). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Fair use rationale for File:Krrishscore.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Krrishscore.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 14:09, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

would appreciate your help![edit]

Hi ! I am new to wiki so i hope I'm typing this in the right spot! I'm reaching out to other users for help. As I understand it, I need to track down an established wiki editor to help me rid the first article i've created ("Stone and Stone")of the ugly box that was posted on top "This article has multiple issues....".

I know exactly how these complaints came about. In my ignorance on how wiki works, I gave myself the same nickname as the subject I was writing on and then a whole drama ensued, as it was assumed that I was my subject and that I was writing an autobiography! In truth, I am a huge comedy fan and biographer and was dipping my toes for the first time in wikipedia waters!

Any help or solutions you could provide me when you get the chance would be greatly appreciated! This poor little article certainly doesn't deserve such an ugly heading box because of my wiki-ignorance! Thank you in advance for your time! WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest[edit]

Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.

As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.

If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.

You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:00, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
