Found the newly created article [1] Arnold Fornachou on the new page patrol, and despite the fact it's only source is a blog, I think the article has potential. Tree chart making

I made a family tree that I wanted to put here (it's on my sandbox). It took way too long to figure out all of the weird stuff like where to put v or ! or . or -. Is there any way to make that faster? Is that a feature in visual editing? If so, please inform.

Viable article? What should it be called?

I want to write about Kristian Bush and a project he did called 52, where he released 4 albums in a year consisting of 52 songs. I don't think the albums individually are notable, but together, and the project overall, definetely are.

Is it possible to combine these four albums into one page as the 52 project? If so, what should I title the article? Is there an existing article similar to this in concept? Panini! • 🥪 03:30, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

None of those. The competition's web site (for the 2022 tournament) appears to refer to "men's" and "women's" "under-19", although only by codes such as MS-U19, WD-U19, etc. Remember that Wikipedia only uses information provided by reliable sources. Bazza (talk) 09:53, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

@Zoglophie and Stvbastian: Badminton articles always use the "Boys' singles" format.[2][3] Don't move articles against an established convention without discussion. If somebody wants to change the convention and move 500+ articles then they can start a requested move advertised at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Badminton. Don't move a few articles and create inconsistent naming. Tennis chose the "Boys' singles" format at Talk:1912 World Hard Court Championships – Mixed doubles#Requested move 8 January 2022. @PrimeHunter: Thanks for clarity for the OP. This subject is not my cup of tea at all, but it's unusual that terminology which isn't sourced is being used for articles' titles and text. The 2022 results (the latest available) use "M" or "W" for gender, and U19 to signify it's not the grown-up version. I couldn't find a style manual in WP:BADMINTON stating that "boy" and "girl" have to be uses; that page itself used "Under-19". The Badminton World Federation article uses "junior", and BWF World Junior Ranking "men" and "women"; not a "boy" or "girl" in sight anywhere. Bazza (talk) 11:08, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

Reliable sources don't have to be official. Many reliable sources say boys/girls but I don't know the most common name. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:25, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

This whole megillah is currently the subject of discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Capital letters#RfC on capitalization after a colon or dash. I'd recommend not doing anything with capitalization in such titles until that RfC is closed. Deor (talk) 12:45, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

Some help fixing a page with strange information?

Hi, I figured it would be a good idea to open a ticket instead of trying to make edits that’ll be reverted. The page Bride of Christ currently reflects some reeaally fringe Christian theology from the God the Mother Cult. This belief didn’t exist until the 80s and without getting into whose beliefs are valid are not, they aren’t mainstream. The edits that shifted it in that direction are mostly from Sept. 1. Any help would be appreciated, even if it means telling me to just settle down about it. Hopefully someone is familiar enough with the very basics of theology to understand why the current state of the article is foreign to most Christians. Thanks for your help! Headings formatting help needed

Hi all

I'm working on a help/guidance page for outreach and I'm struggling with some of the formatting. I want to make each box of information a heading so that I can create a custom Table of Contents at the top of the page which links to individual sections. However using == title == completely breaks the formatting of the page, I also tried <h2> title </h2> but that still messes with the formatting. Is there any way to assign a section of text as a heading without it changing how the text looks? I basically want to make where it says 'title' below into a section heading without it changing the way the text looks.

You can insert an 'invisible' title using code like

===<span style="color:#ffffff">Title here</span>===

This will...

• colour the 'Title here' text white
• create an entry 'Title here' in the ToC
• cause the [edit source] link to appear next to the 'Title here' (which will take up the usual space for that text, so the [edit source] will not be at the left margin)
• show up as white text if the background is coloured (eg dark mode? or any custom background for accessibility)

...but it is a start. You could also shrink the font so [edit source] is further left.

But on the whole, I would suggest it is a bad idea to try to change that level of formatting, as it is likely to break or cause problems with different skins, screen readers, accessibility aids and so on. -- Verbarson  ^talk_edits 13:57, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

First you read WP:PAID and make sure you're in line with it going forward. This will be easier if you create an account. Second, carefully read and follow the instructions at Help:Your first article. Your major hurdle will be establishing that this company is notable by Wikipedia's standards (WP:NORG lays out all the details). 57.140.16.56 (talk) 15:36, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

If you're an employee who's been told to do this by your manager, then you should also read WP:BOSS. Bazza (talk) 16:22, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

In addition to what everyone else said (though this is basically just what wp:BOSS says), basically, find at least two or three sources that

1. are completely independent of you or your company (so no press releases, interviews, ...),
2. are secondary (one step removed from whatever it's trying to justify: so for example you can't claim your company was endorsed by celebrity X on Twitter and then cite that to their tweet);
3. are from reliable sources (so we don't care what The Sun says about your company. No, really, we don't.),
4. actually discuss your company in substantial depth, (It doesn't need to necessarily be the sole focus of the source, but it definitely needs to be more than just one or two paragraphs.),
5. aren't just run-of-the-mill coverage (so the standard tiny burst of coverage that you're holding your annual career fair again does not count), and
6. are from national or international sources.

If you can't find those, then you need to return to your boss and say it can't be done, because anything you write without those will ultimately just get deleted.

Otherwise, if you can find those, you then need to write your article solely based around what those sources say. You cannot add what you personally know to be true but isn't mentioned in the sources, because everything on Wikipedia needs to be verifiable. Everything on Wikipedia also needs to be from a neutral point of view, so if you discuss your company non-neutrally (throwing in words about how great it is, etc.) the entire article will be swiftly deleted with extreme prejudice.

(In case you couldn't tell, this website isn't terribly happy with company-paid editors, because fundamentally we're an encyclopedia and not an advertising billboard. Mtati ovuyonke If you are referring to your user page, it is "published" in that people looking for it can see it. It is not an encyclopedia article, but a place to tell about yourself as a Wikipedia user. New accounts cannot directly create articles and need to use Articles for Creation. Request: please can someone copy Template:Flex columns to Meta?

Hi all

I'm trying to use Template:Flex columns some help pages and my user page which will appear on Wikipedia and Meta. However the template doesn't exist on Meta yet. It uses some other templates and I don't want to try to do it and make a mess I have to ask someone else to clear up, can I request someone else please copy it over for me? It will be really useful for creating documentation. I know this is a request for Meta fom Wikipedia but there are very few people who look at the notice boards there.

Infobox image not displaying

The infobox image for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, File:Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth Cover Art.jpg, shows up as an empty rectangle in the infobox, displays an error message when I click on it ("Error: could not load image from https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/0f/Like_a_Dragon_Infinite_Wealth_Cover_Art.jpg"), and shows the filename instead of the image on the File: page. I'm using Microsoft Edge on Windows 10, and all other images load fine on Wikipedia and elsewhere. I'm not the person who uploaded the image or added it to the infobox, so I don't know if the file is corrupted or anything. QuietCicada (talk) 00:01, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

Seems to be rendering fine on my end. You can try to Wikipedia:Bypass your cache and see if that clears it, and failing that check which load error you're getting in the browser console. WelpThatWorked (talk) 00:14, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

The cache-bypass trick didn't work in Edge or Chrome; I looked at the developer tools in Chrome and saw "Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 ()" for the image URL. I'm just glad that it's working for others. QuietCicada (talk) 00:19, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

So, recently I found out that in some countries, the artwork of Troye Sivan's Something To Give Each Other is replaced with the "Rush" single artwork due to its… implications.

Hi @Robert T. deGavre. You need to click the Publish button on the draft page, which is the same as "Save" on most word processors. This doesn't publish the draft for review, but does commit your changes.

However, looking at your Special:Contributions/Robert T. deGavre (which is a list of all your edits), I don't see any drafts. Could you have been logged out while you were drafting it? Could you check your web browser history?

Login persistence

Do you have Firefox set to “Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed”? My understanding is that the login duration must use some locally stored data to keep the login. Since this is a browser specific setting, it would explain why you have not had the same issue with other browsers. You may also want to see the first sentence of Wikipedia:FAQ/Technical#Why was I automatically logged out? for other settings which could be causing the issue (“This could be a result of your cookie, browser cache, or firewall/Internet security settings.”). Vandalism help request from Bhbuehler

I have noticed some vandalism at Alexander Stepanov. Namely, User:Icandostuffnow added a couple of obvious jokes to the biography of a living person and deleted the jokes about 11 hours later. The vandalism was done the same day the user created their account, and it appears to be either inactive or deleted. But Special:CentralAuth/Icandostuffnow does not show it as blocked. These are the user's only visible edits (at 2022-09-13T12:04:52, 2022-09-13T12:04:52, and 2022-09-13T21:05:10‎)Special:Contributions/Icandostuffnow). I just wanted to bring attention to it in case removing the vandalism from the page history is the standard practice for a living person. Would an editor please assist me with fixing it? Increasing importance level of a page

I have just joined and added some information to a page. (Wisbech to Upwell Tram Line) I noticed that it was described as inactive and standard or low importance. It appeared the section to raise the issue and get it elevated was the 'talk' section but red rose sent me a link to the requirements for content which suggests the note I posted is not compliant. If so I apologise. However how does a page get elevated to be considered more important by Wikipedia. If my talk post is non compliant obviously no problem with deleting it. Importance is a fairly objective assessment of a topic's significance within the context of a global encyclopedia, but quality is independent of significance. A tram line is almost never going to be of greater than low importance, while London Underground will be of high or top importance, depending on the project assessment. Article title/disambiguation/potential move?

With the intention of filling in some red links at National Register of Historic Places listings in Roanoke, Virginia, I planned to create an article on a building most commonly known as Villa Heights. However, as the building lent its name to the surrounding neighborhood, there is already a Villa Heights, Roanoke, Virginia article. The building is also known as the Compton-Bateman House, and in doing a Google search to see how commonly that name was used, I discovered an existing article at Villa Heights Plantation. That article is a bit of a mess (with an overlong quote that is probably a copyvio), and I plan on rewriting it, but I'm unsure how to title it and what kind of redirects need to be created. The article is about the building, and while it was likely a plantation home in its past, none of the literature on the subject mentions a plantation. I don't want to appear as trying to whitewash the site's history, I simply would like as accurate of a title as possible, and would appreciate any advice on how to proceed. DrOrinScrivello, I would suggest improving Villa Heights Plantation first, possibly using a draft at Draft:Villa Heights Plantation. Villa Heights house should be mentioned and linked in the history and lead sections of Villa Heights district. Redirects and page moves can be done later. @Sarangem: Go ahead. You can just redirect the archives and revert to before the archive edits since there are no intervening edits in the page history [4]. Remove {{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis}} to stop future archiving. Somebody chose a poor archive format for a low-activity page. There hasn't been a talk page post since 2016 so I don't think anyone would object, or even notice your change. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:44, 14 October 2023 (UTC)

Speeding up simple tedious merges

I want to do a set of simple merges like those that can be seen in this history page. I extract one or more bulleted points from a stub, move them to a corresponding subheading in the new article, and then convert the old article to a redirect. Repeat until all of the stubs are covered in the larger article and all of the old articles redirect to the appropriate subheading. Is there any way to do this more efficiently? @Thebiguglyalien: It's limited what it saves but my workflow in Firefox would have been:

1. Make 11 browser tabs with full page edits, no section edits. Ctrl-click on a link makes a new tab.
2. Copy-paste from the 10 years to 1890s in Bulgaria.
3. Copy the text #REDIRECT [[1890s in Bulgaria#189]] {{R to section}}.
4. Blank each year page with Ctrl+a and Del, paste the copied text and manually add the last digit in the year. Move between tabs with Ctrl+Page Up and Ctrl+Page Down.
5. Copy-paste the same edit summary to the 10 year pages and save them.

Tournament template

There is an infobox template for a tournament, incorporating such information such as year, amount of teams, etc. I've seen it before in articles, but is there a documentation for the bracket structure similar to the charts produced by sports authorities?
