Revision as of 19:00, 18 July 2007
Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. For retitling files, categories and other items, see When not to use this page.
Please read the article titling policy and the guideline regarding primary topics before moving a page or requesting a page move.
Any autoconfirmed user can use the Move function to perform most moves (see Help:How to move a page). If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. See: § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
- Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are generally processed after seven days. If consensus to move the page is reached at or after this time, a reviewer will carry out the request. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved". When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time for consensus to develop, or the discussion may be closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Splitting an article – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed article splits, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Uncontroversial proposals
Only list here proposals that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete (for example, spelling and capitalization fixes). Do not list a proposed page move in this section if there is any possibility that it could be opposed by anyone. Please list new requests at the bottom of the list and use {{subst:WP:RM2|Old page name|Requested name|Reason for move}} rather than copying previous entries. The template will automatically include your signature. No edits to the article's talk page are required.
If you object to a proposal listed here, please relist it in the #Incomplete and contested proposals section below.
Incomplete and contested proposals
- Haitian Americans → Haitian American —(Discuss)— The article "Haitian Americans" should be referred to as "Haitian American" because other "peoples" articles are titled in singular context (ex: Cuban American)". —Spyder00Boi 20:05, 15 July 2007
- Incomplete and not uncontroversial. Dekimasuよ! 05:35, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

- Lucky Star → Lucky Star (song) —(Discuss)— —— PyTom 01:07, 15 July 2007 (UTC) and
- Lucky Star (disambiguation) → Lucky Star —(Discuss)— —— PyTom 01:07, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- - Would like to make the disambiguation page the main page for Lucky Star, as I think the song and the anime are of about equal importance. I expect this to be non-controversial, but I'm erring on the safe side. — PyTom 01:07, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Anthropomorphism → Wikipedia:WikiProject Furry —(Discuss)— The name and scope of this project were changed without discussion or consensus. The original project, Wikipedia:WikiProject Furry, was proposed in order to to better organize and improve the quality of information in articles related to Furry-related topics. —Ochlophobia 05:58, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- As a majority view on this matter has been reached, please move Wikipedia:WikiProject Anthropomorphism to Wikipedia:WikiProject Furry - the WP Furry page is still up and will need to be deleted. Bengaley 19:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Other proposals
Please use the correct template: see the instructions above. Do not attempt to copy and paste formatting from another listing. |
- Trophy (architectural) → War Trophy —(Discuss)— This artifact would be more accurately described as a war trophy than an architectural trophy, since it refers to the spoils of war. —Eliz81 14:28, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'm like a Bird → I'm Like a Bird —(Discuss)— It's a proper noun, so Like should be capitalized. In addition, per Wikipedia:WikiProject Music/MUSTARD#Capitalization I could not move this myself, since it was previously at the correct page name. —I (said) (did) 11:20, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Gradius (video game) → Gradius —(Discuss)— In video games, it's typical to give the original video game in a series the main article. And in this case, the main article title does not even act as anything but a redirect. —A Link to the Past (talk) 04:57, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Environmental Protection Agency (disambiguation) → Environmental Protection Agency —(Discuss)— Rather than having a redirection to United States Environmental Protection Agency is should be a disambig page. —Alan Liefting 03:40, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Senkaku Islands → Pinnacle Islands —(Discuss)— The article name should be neutral in accordance with WP:NPOV. Liancourt Rocks and Socotra Rocks are both articles that have been named by the neutral name and this article should too. Good friend100 02:42, 18 July 2007 (UTC) —Good friend100 02:42, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Girlguiding-British Guides in Foreign Countries → Girlguiding BGIFC —(Discuss)— This is the organisation's correct name, as noted from the organisation's publications here —Kingbird 01:49, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Volk racing wheels → Rays Engineering —(Discuss)— Article creator has made an error in titling which the "Racing" should be written in uppercase and excluding the wheels portion, as stated by editor, Volk Racing is a product of Rays Engineering, meaning that this should be written within the proposed move article —Willirennen 23:05, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Veilside → VeilSide —(Discuss)— Official website states the S of company name in uppercase, instead of lowercase —Willirennen 22:22, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Gomel → Homiel —(Discuss)— correct transliteration from Belarusian language (English spelling based on Belarusian language - national language of the country) —maksdo 17:10, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Blooregard Q. Kazoo → Bloo —(Discuss)— This fictional character is commonly known as Bloo. Even official site refers him as Bloo. See WP:COMMONNAME. —JSH-alive 13:14, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- RAND → RAND Corporation —(Discuss)— less ambiguous —Ewlyahoocom 06:09, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Log cabin (building) → Log cabin —(Discuss)— almost every link to Log cabin intends the building —Ewlyahoocom 05:48, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Russophobia → Anti-Russian sentiment —(Discuss)— It is impossible to split hair between prejudices and political anti-Russianism based on real reasons. `'Míkka 23:17, 16 July 2007 (UTC) —`'Míkka 23:17, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia in culture → Wikipedia:Wikipedia in culture —(Discuss)— The page is just like Wikipedia:Press coverage: a collection of occurrences, woth no encyclopedic discussion. Therefore it belongs to "wikipedia" namespace. `'Míkka 22:57, 16 July 2007 (UTC) —`'Míkka 22:57, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- Terrorist attacks of the Iraq War → Bombing attacks since the 2003 invasion of Iraq —(Discuss)— To avoid a controversial title with better established scope — Cat chi? 21:22, 16 July 2007 (UTC) -- Cat chi? 21:22, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- David Frost (broadcaster) → David Frost —(Discuss)— The broadcaster is the obvious primary topic here, he is one of the most well-known people in the UK and is famous in the US and other countries, so this page should be at David Frost. This article has over 100 incoming links (plus 70 articles that currently link to the disambigation page but are meant for the broadcaster). David Frost (golfer) has just over 20, the other two David Frosts have very few incoming links. —Saikokira 17:18, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yom HaShoah → Holocaust Remembrance Day —(Discuss)— Common name amongst English speakers in Israel, current name is least common of four options. —Number 57 15:23, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- 10,000 B.C. (film) → 10,000 BC (film) —(Discuss)— Official site does not show any punctuation whatsoever in the film title... this formatting takes precedence over any typical naming/dating conventions. —Erik (talk • contrib) - 13:32, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- Queensland Rail → QR —(Discuss)— QR/Queensland Rail is now called QR Limited. QR is currently a disambiguation page, but most links to it are meant for Queensland Rail anyway. —Seo75 01:17, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- Eisack → Isarco —(Discuss)— We made a mistake, actually more Italian speakers along the river (as per consensus for names in this province) —Icsunonove 22:06, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- The Mocker (comics) → Mocker (comics) — (Discuss) — Wiki guidelines say generally we don't use the indefinite article "The" in entry titles. I'd accidentally moved The Mocker (Ditko) to The Mocker (comics), following WikiProject Comics style to use "(comics)", but forgot to remove the "The," and ran into problems removing it at that point. Got error message to notify an Admin to request the move.--Tenebrae 21:20, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- Sahraoui Scout Association → Scouting in Western Sahara —(Discuss)— over the course of research to source this article, several editors have discovered multiple groups and organizations serving the same purpose, none with international recognition, so this is a more inclusive name —Chris 19:30, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- Data clustering → Cluster analysis —(Discuss)— The term cluster analysis is far more widespread than the term data clustering (please see discussion page for some statistics). —MatthewKarlsen 18:17, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- Croatian War of Independence → War in Croatia (1991-95) —(Discuss)— the name as it stands is misleading, inaccurate and heavy Croatian POV. Croatia in fact was fully independent since 92. Croatian War/War in Croatia are most common names in English for this conflict, described as civil war in the west, a year can be add to avoid ambiguity. The sister war - War in Bosnia is not called Bosnian War of Independence, and the name is highly insultive to the Krajina Serbs, who were purged entirely from Krajina in 95 - even in Croatia itself the name of the war is not war of independence, but rather "patriotic war" or more literally "homeland war" - and for Serbs this was merely a struggle for survival from the genocide that started in 40s and indeed there were attacks in the 70s etc. So, in such a hot topic, where the most common name is readily available, why not use it as it is neutral, and much less controversial in this very hot Balkan topic. The issue has been discussed number of time, with cabal of Croatian users pushing their POV title heavily Hvarako 18:01, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hemlock (disambiguation) → Hemlock —(Discuss)— I recently moved this page from Hemlock to (Hemlock (disambiguation)). My reasoning was that poison hemlock, described by the article on the Conium genus, was the most commonly understood meaning of the word "hemlock". However, User:Calibas pointed out to me that in the United States, the word "hemlock" has come to be commonly understood to refer to the Tsuga genus of conifers, historically named after poison hemlock. Some internet research and a check through the pages linking to the Hemlock article suggested to me that there is a roughly even split between the two meanings. Thus, it would seem to be best that the Hemlock article be the home of the disambiguation page, with a mention of the two most commonly understood meanings to distinguish them from the minor ones. (Unfortunately, since I edited the Hemlock article to redirect to the Conium article, I cannot move the disambiguation page back there.) -Kieran 17:32, 15 July 2007 (UTC) —Kieran 17:32, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- Slugging average → Slugging percentage —(Discuss)— "Slugging percentage" is by far the most common and officially used term, and consensus has been reached that this is the appropriate title on the article's talk page —albrozdude 08:37, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- SNK Playmore → SNK —(Discuss)— Links to SNK are for the game company, it is highly unlikely that average EN users would type in SNK and expect to end up at Government of the Soviet Union. The company is now called SNK Playmore, but is most often referred to as SNK, and SNK was the name of the company when it was most notable. —JohnnyMrNinja 23:12, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- Taito Corporation → Taito —(Discuss)— All links to Taito are for the game company, the other link is a ward in Tokyo (and trivia that aren't links). I added a dablink to the top of Taito Corporation. —JohnnyMrNinja 23:12, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- Council of Representatives (Iraq) → Council of Representatives of Iraq —(Discuss)— A quick look at Category:National legislatures will give an idea about the concensus on the issue. —Int21h 17:32, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan → Party of Free Life of Kurdistan —(Discuss)— Incorrect translation of the Kurdish title of the party[1]. See Talk page for detailed discussion. —Heja Helweda 14:45, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- Tromsø Airport, Langnes → Tromsø Airport —(Discuss)— This page should be moved to "Tromsø Airport", which is the airports official name. Ref the Avinor webpage at [2]. The name was changed from "Tromsø Airport, Langnes" a few years back. The old name is very rarely used anymore. (Cannot move it myself because of two previous edits on the destination page) —Geanixx 13:08, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- Sicko (film) → SiCKO —(Discuss)— According to Moore's web site[3], The glyphs on the film's title are rendered as they are on the poster. —Reginmund 06:37, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- Blessed George Napier Roman Catholic School and Sports College, Banbury (Discuss) - The name is far too long.
- Palestinian people → Palestinians —(Discuss)— "Palestinian people" connotes that Palestinians are an ethnicity, tribe, or race. Historical evidence refutes this. "Palestinian" is the term used in the media for what is being described in the article. —GHcool 18:17, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- Savaging → Filial infanticide —(Discuss)— Needs more general name, filial infanticide is the most inclusive. —Richard001 23:41, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- Empress Kojun → Empress Nagako —(Discuss)— —Per Wiki convention re Japanese names, her husband, posthumously known as Emperor Showa, is article-titled Hirohito, since this is the most common name by which he is known. Similarly, his consort should be known by her most common name, Nagako, as opposed to Kojun, which is a posthumous name.204.126.250.73 18:28, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

- Jew → Jews —(Discuss)— Jew may be offensive for a title, and many people have commented they would prefer "Jewish people" or "Jews" as the title. Also other "people" articles tend to have "English people" or "Germans" —Thewebthsp 22:01, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
