Hitler's favorite theme music

Just which IS Hitler's favorite "entrance theme"? Was it the Badenweiler Marsch? as is mentioned at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Archives/Humanities/2007 September 6#Hitler's entrance music. Or is it the Königgrätzer Marsch? .. Both articles seem to make the same claim to fame, with both being referenced in popular culture in relation to Hitler.. so there appears to be a contradiction.. unless, he has two favorite marches?? If not, can someone clarify (or is it rectify?) the articles so there is some consistency and/or distinction between them? -- œ^™

Reading those two entries, I see no contradictions. The first says that the Badenweiler Marsch was "often" (not "always") used for his entrances, and the second that the Königgrätzer Marsch was "one of" his favourite marches (meaning he had two or more) and was (also) often used. Neither is claimed to be his single, solely used favourite, and evidently both these two marches and probably others were were used for this purpose on different occasions over the 10 years or so of his political career. You seem to be reading into what is said in these two entries a little more than is actually there, though it's entirely possible that elsewhere, partisans of one or the other march have exaggerated their own preference's predominance. 87.81.230.195 (talk) 15:51, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Why are football crowds more aware of handball than other infractions?

When watching football, I notice several times each game there is a massed shout of "handball" from the crowd. There is also the occasional shout for "penalty", but I never hear the crowd shout "offside", "foul", "corner", or for other incidents/stoppages. Trust me, as a regular football fan we do shout for all of those! We follow the saying "if you don't shout you don't get..." It's just that handball and penalties can also lead to yellow/red cards... So they get bigger shouts! Most of the time the crowd are well aware that it wasn't handball, penalty, fouls, offside etc, but you never know what the ref will do if you shout loud enough! It's not so much that there's an expectation, more that if the ref is in two minds then it can often sway them towards making the decision in your favour... It's why certain teams (for example Manchester United) have a reputation for winning more penalties etc at home compared to away, due to the pressure that the 60k+ fans baying for a decision can have on refs... jung-su lee help!

What did I just see on TCM?

So I just turned on TCM to see the last twenty minutes of something. I thought it was a movie, but it didnt appear on their schedule, so it might be a short or something. It was in black and white and was about an African American advertisement worker who refuses to have anything to do with alcohol, drugs, and anything like that, but apparently his commercials are pretty vulgar. The whole thing was very satirical and ended when he asks his employees to make a commercial for alcohol, which they do out of blind faith. This was a test on their morals, which they failed. Symphony Fantastique by Hector Berlioz

$ppp$ means "play very very softly". $p$ would mean "piano" or softly, $pp$ would mean "pianissimo" or very softly. $ppp$ is thus pianississimo, meaning play very very softly. See Dynamics (music) for a thorough explanation. --Jayron32 18:29, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

What is this anime?

From my last question:

There is an anime that I have seen that has a part or episode where a spacecraft heads towards the Earth and transforms into a space shuttle upon entering its atmosphere. It then transforms into a boeing 747 to land in some airport. All while the charcters inside get changed and masqueraded in some wierd digital-like way by some evil guy. Ive seen this a long time ago and I didn't manage to see or find out what it was called. Do you know what anime is this?

Killer Suduko solution for Evening Standard, Thursday 13 May 2010.

Does anyone have or know where to find that solution please? Their website only gives the solution for Friday, and a lot of Google searching found nothing. Most videos on wikimedia are in Ogg Theora format. Blackberry does not support this format[3], so you would probably have to download to a PC, convert the video using software such as ffmpeg (what software you use may depend on whether you have Windows PC, Mac, Linux, etc) to one of the supported formats (see previous link), and then load that onto your Blackberry. Can anybody tell me about a movie where in the baby doesn't want to be born.. (here's the flow of the movie) It turns out that there is a kid spirit who doesn't want to be born yet and because of that a spirit guy is tasked to encourage the kid spirit to be born so He decided to let the kid go with him on earth to experience the wonderful things out there.... As time passes by the kid met his future mother crying at the bench. The kid pitied his mother so he decided to be born.. as for the spirit guy he was sent to heaven because of his success.....

The checkerboard background seems to include Maybelline cosmetics. If you could find out what the other part of the checkerboard is, then you may be able to find the launch event for that product. She's probably a minor American actress.

There are tons of websites, like GameFAQs.com, among others, featuring walk-throughs and hint guides produced by other players. They're free to browse and read as much as you like, so they may be a better way to get a nudge in the right direction than buying a strategy guide in a bookstore. Trying to identify a song..

I don't have much to go on, but I hope you fine Refdeskians can help. I heard a song yesterday (before my morning coffee, hence the lack of details) on a US mainstream rock radio station. It was a guy singing, and was a quiet song - Almost acousticky, but I don't recall if it actually was. The lyrics were something about 'seeing what you see when you look at me' or something to that effect. It was a very sentence-y oriented song.. The lyrics were more sentence-y than phrase-y. It doesn't immediately ring a bell ... while you wait for other responses, you might want to try visiting the station's website. I just read in the article on the Doors' Strange Days (album) that the woman wearing a caftan and standing in a doorway was the stylist of the photographer Joel Brodsky's wife. Her name was Zazel Lovén. I did a Google search for her but nothing came up. Does anyone have any information on her, such as her DOB, nationality, etc? Sounds awesome, whatever it is, did it allow the killer to hear people or other people to hear what the killer was saying? If it allowed the killer to hear people, how could he not know it was there? It stands to reason that he would know something was up if it allowed him to hear that which he could not (and if it did not allow him to hear something he couldn't, what's the point?). I saw that episode. I beleive you're talking about Season 10, episode 17, "Irradiator". The summary mentions a killer who is "Jekyll's third victim; he has unwittingly undergone neurosurgery that has left him unable to control his rage. The killer/victim has by this time shot his aunt and died of injuries caused by the implantation of 10 radioactive rods between his brain hemispheres." Our 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa (video game) article does not mention PC. However, we don't help people pirate software here. I'm looking for the name of the style of music typically played on a broken-down out-of-tune piano in a Wild-West movie just before (and, curiously, during) the inevitable bar-room fight scene. I can think of one or two individual tunes ("Oh! Susanna" for example) - but the style is escaping me for the moment...some suggestions for other titles and some (free!) god bless America instead of the nat'l anthem before an NHL game...

I was watching the Montreal/Philly game earlier this evening and at the beginning right after O Canada had been sung, instead of singing the Star Spangled Banner, God Bless America was sung. It was interesting and was a sort of duet with some super-old footage from who knows when of someone else also singing GBA, but I was wondering a few things:

1) Seeing as this must be legit, how long has it been allowed?

2) Is this a common occurance (and thus is my tendency to not watch the first period of hockey games coming back to bite me...)?

3) Are there other countries that have an alternative anthem they play before some games?

If perhaps I'm totally out of what and GBA is actually a US nat'l anthem, please feel free to correct me. I'm not American and thus am a bit ignorant of a handful of traditions.

GBA isn't the US national anthem — that's The Star Spangled Banner — but as our article God Bless America says, there was a movement at one time to replace SSB with GBA. First: are you sure that SSB wasn't performed before O Canada? Given that the game was in the US, I'd expect the US anthem first. Now on to the specific questions:

1: "allowed" -- There is no law and no official rule. The performance of the national anthem is simply tradition. //updating: God Bless America cites a USA Today article noting that in multinational NHL games, both anthems are performed by rule since 1987. However, my copy of the '07-'08 official NHL rules make no mention of such.

I have thought about this issue. Aristotle, if I recall correctly, complains that art isn't true to life, and therefore ought to be banned. He misses the whole pedagogical function of art though. It's not by being literal that it conveys ideas and suggests possibilities. Joseph Campbell talks all about this in The Power of Myth. The bottom line is that reality is for real-life, and synthesis, taking liberties, symbolism, even falseness, are all important to anything artistic. Barroom fight scenes in old Westerns.

Many thanks for all the help (above) wrt music for Wild-West movie saloons I got exactly what I needed. Now I need some suggestions for movies that contain those crazy saloon fights - you know the kind? Everyone is happily drinking their watered-down beer, cheating at cards and chasing the hookers dancing girls - when someone spills a drink on some huge bear of a guy...who swings a punch...misses...hits someone else...and for some unaccountable reason, within 10 seconds there are 100 people swinging punches, smashing up the place, etc. I need to make a catalog of the 'sight gags' in those old movies.

I'm having a hard time thinking of even single movie although, there must be dozens. Bonus points if I can find the fight scene online someplace.
