Revision as of 18:22, 18 March 2006

There are many recurring characters in the animated series South Park, aside from the four main characters, Eric Theodore Cartman, Stanley "Stan" Marsh, Kyle Broflovski and Kenneth "Kenny" McCormick. Leopold "Butters" Stotch and Tweek replaced Kenny for a half season each during the sixth season. See their respective articles for details.

Sheila Broflovski is a staunch supporter of censorship and political correctness, often in the name of her children. Never accounting herself as responsible for parenting her children, she often goes on crusades against what she sees as morally harmful (or to show her political correctness), like her leading support of Mothers Against Canada in South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut or her establishment of "National Conjoined Twin Myslexia Week". Her personality leads Eric Cartman to sing "Kyle's Mom is a Bitch in D Minor", which basically consists of Cartman repeatedly calling Sheila "the biggest bitch in the whole wide world".

  • 106: Against the airing of Terrance and Phillip, expanded in South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut
  • 110: Against the nativity/Christmas in the school play
  • 205: Educating the general public about "Conjoined Twin Myslexia," a disorder of conjoined twins that leads to one twin dying in the womb, but still attached to the surviving twin. The only actual sufferer of Conjoined Twin Myslexia is greatly annoyed by Sheila's efforts.

  • 614: The children are intolerant of Mr. Garrison's rampant homosexuality, including accounts of S&M and gerbilling that are ignored by Sheila.
  • South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut: As aforementioned, Sheila goes on a rampant crusade against Terrance and Philip and the increased profanity that they cause among the children of South Park. She founds the group Mothers Against Canada, which demands the shutdown of Terrance and Philip, and eventually advocates the violent suppression of Canada. In the movie, she always accepts violence over profanity, and plays a role in a climactic scene in the movie by summarily executing Terrance and Philip.

Gerald Broflovski is a lawyer, who is shown to be opportunist, helping everybody sue the school district in "Sexual Harassment Panda". He is also a friend of Stan Marsh, and is somewhat less adamant about ethics than his wife. He has a lifelong, but suppressed dream of becoming a dolphin, and temporarily becomes one in 901, "Mrs. Garrison's Fancy New Vagina".

Ike Broflovski is Kyle's adopted brother and a Canadian baby. He was the ball in an early game and pleasure of Kyle's, "Kick the Baby". Ike speaks in characteristic baby talk, but also sometimes speaks profanity, often by influence of his brother.

Kyle's cousin, also named Kyle Broflovski, is the epitome of a Jewish stereotype, adept at financial affairs but incredibly geeky and non-athletic, who constantly suffers from his sinuses. Despite his nerdiness, he has played baseball for the South Park Cows and occasionally serves as Cartman's moral accountant.

Randall "Randy" and Sharon Marsh, Shelley and Grandpa

Randy Marsh

Sharon Marsh

Randy and Sharon Marsh are the parents of Stan, and his exceptionally violent sister Shelley.

Sharon is a receptionist at Tom's Rhinoplasty and Randy is a geologist, the only scientist in South Park aside from Dr. Alphonse Mephisto, but during his younger years was a member of a briefly successful boy band. He occasionally shows a penchant for singing and dancing. Randy frequently shows the character traits of impulsiveness and irrationality, summed up well in the ability to take something 'too far', and too easily, time and time again.

In the "Spontaneous Combustion" episode, Randy is awarded a Nobel Prize for finding the cause of the spontaneous human combustion of some SP persons. He won the prize in favor of Dr. Alphonz Mephisto and a 'real scientist' who found the grand unification theory. It turned out the spontaneous combustion was caused by people holding in their farts and explosion of the accumulated methane (or marsh gas) in their guts. Kenny was the first to die as he fell in love with a girl and did not want to fart in her presence.

In "The Losing Edge," Randy constantly gets into fights with other fathers, an activity he treats as a sport. After removing his shirt, he says, "What you gonna do?" and throws beer over his opponent; normally winning the fight, the police arrest Randy in a pitiable state, to which he responds, "I thought this was America?" During the Bat Dad fight he has visions just as Rocky did in Rocky V- including Mickey telling him to get up.

File:Shelly.gif
Shelly Marsh

Shelly is a violent twelve year old with an awkward set of headgear braces. She enjoys dating older men, beating up Stan, and calling him and his friends "turds". Despite the mutual dislike between Shelly and most of the boys, she and Eric Cartman formed a mutual cease-fire in the episode Cat Orgy after they get back at Shelly's boyfriend, Skylar, who is twenty-two years old and was only dating her for sex.

File:Grandpamarsh.gif
Grandpa Marvin Marsh

"Grandpa" Marvin Marsh is the elderly father of Randy, and lives with the Marsh family. He is 102 years old and confined to a wheelchair. His thoughts and actions are typically very perverted. He is somewhat senile and calls Stan "Billy". On episode 106, "Death", Grandpa constantly demands that "Billy" euthanize him. In "Something Wall-Mart This Way Comes", he is employed as a greeter at the newly-constructed Wall-Mart store. He features heavily in episode 710, "Grey Dawn", where the Senior citizens lose their drivers licenses.

Liane Cartman

Liane Cartman

Cartman's mom is famous in South Park for being sexually promiscuous. She was at one point the featured model on the cover of Crack Whore Magazine. Young Eric denys this allegation made by Stan and Kyle in many episodes. When Cartman finally admits to his mother being on the cover, he defends her by saying she was, "young and needed the money." To which Kyle almost habitually counters with, "Dude, it was like three months ago." In South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut it was revealed that she takes part in German 'scheiße' movies and Kyle and Stan often attempt to alert Cartman to his mother's sexual deviancy which, contrary to evidence, he emphatically denies. In fact, it was revealed that, as a hermaphrodite, Liane could not possibly be Cartman's mother and is, in fact, his father. The identity of Cartman's real mother is unknown.

Liane often does whatever Cartman tells her to do. She waits on him as if she were his slave while he watches television. She also perpetuates the belief that Cartman is not fat but "big boned". She finally admits to him that she was lying to make him feel better about himself, and tells him that he really is just fat, in "Fat Camp".

Liane is the name of a much-despised former fiancée of Trey Parker's, who also gave this name to his ill-fated horse in Cannibal! The Musical. Reportedly, the real-life Lianne left Trey for another man soon before South Park became a hit.

The McCormicks

File:Kennydad.gif
Stuart McCormick
File:Kennymom.gif
Mrs. McCormick

Kenny's family, the McCormicks, are exceptionally poor, and represent stereotypical "white trash". A typical daily meal in this family would consist of frozen waffles with no side dishes ("Are we to understand that there will be *no* side dishes with our frozen waffles?" - Cartman) Kenny's father, Stuart, was a high school friend of Gerald Brovlovski. He is an alcoholic, a fact that Cartman never lets Kenny forget. Kenny's mother, who is only about sixteen years older than Kenny, usually wears an "I'm With Stupid" T-shirt, but has on occasion been shown with a "God Bless America" shirt instead. She seems to be more separated from the other moms, and both McCormicks are not always present at events or meetings which the other families normally attend. The McCormicks are too poor to buy and own a house, instead living in a run-down shack that Stuart and Gerald built as a hideaway when they were teenagers. Both Mr. and Mrs. McCormick frequently argue and fight with each other. In the movie, Kenny's mom is credited as "Ms. McCormick" for her singing in the song "Blame Canada".

The McCormicks have been through a lot of grief over the course of the series, in large part due to the many deaths of their son. In episode 406, "Cartman Joins NAMBLA", shortly after Kenny dies Mrs. McCormick gives birth to a baby named Kenny, and states that this is the 52nd time Kenny has died, implying that the McCormicks give birth to a new Kenny after nearly every episode (which of course does not explain how the Kenny is eight in every episode). Aside from Kenny, the McCormick's have two other children, a small girl who seemingly has no name, and appeared in only one episode, "Best Friends Forever" and an older son named Kevin who is also rarely seen, wears braces and has very few speaking lines.

File:Buttersparents.gif
Linda and Chris Stotch

Chris/Stephen and Linda Stotch

Chris (called Stephen in recent episodes) and Linda Stotch are Butters' parents. They are extremely naïve and seem oblivious to many aspects of their son's life. At the same time, they are extremely domineering, punishing him (usually by grounding him for weeks) for minor incidents, while terrifying him about apocryphal threats, such as "Super-AIDS." Their lack of parenting skills may well explain Butters' nervous disposition.

In the episode "Butters' Very Own Episode", it is revealed that Mr. Stotch is apparently a closet homosexual, as Butters once followed him to a gay bath house. In response, Mrs. Stotch plans to kill herself and tries to kill Butters by drowning him in a lake — justifying this with her wish to not leave her "baby" without a mother; when she believes she has successfully carried out the murder, she attempts to cover up the death with her husband's help. In fact, Butters didn't die after all and had only floated off in the car.

In the episode "Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset", Butters' parents try to sell him off to the rich and bratty "Paris Hilton" for a heft sum of money showing their utter insensitiveness.

Tweek's Parents (Mr. and Mrs. Richard Tweek)

Tweek's parents own a coffee shop, called Tweek's Coffee, which might be a nameplay on Peet's Coffee and the term "tweaked" for someone who is hyper after consuming too much caffeine. They have even less parenting skills than Butters' parents, as they believe that Tweek has ADD, although his problems obviously stem from the fact he drinks too much coffee. Tweek's father, Richard Tweek, has a penchant for the extended use of metaphors for coffee. In the episode, Underpants Gnomes, he also sanctioned the use of children in political commercials to push his point of view. He also occasionally makes playful jokes that freak his son out (for example, claiming he was planning to sell Tweek into slavery).

Timmy's Parents

Timmy's parents, Richard and Helen, are apparently afflicted with the same disorder which affects Timmy. Thier mental disability is most likely Hydrocephalus, and their physical disability is unkown, it results in all three members of the family being confined to an electronic wheelchair, and unable to verbalize anything except their own first name, though later in the series Timmy does start to say some other things on occasion, such as "Lords of the Underworld" (episode 404 - Timmy 2000), "Please Help Me" (episode 412 - 4th Grade), and "Jimmy" (episode 803 - Up The Down Steroid). He also occasionally says "Livin' a lie" in conjunction with his first name.

Chef

File:Chef.gif
Chef

Main article: Chef

Jerome 'Chef' McElroy is one of very few black characters in South Park, and the chef at the South Park Elementary School. A stereotypical character, Chef is obsessed with sex (especially with white women), and he is somewhat promiscuous. He is a talented singer, and has a tendency to sing wildly inappropriate songs when his muse strikes him. The children often seek him out when in need of guidance or information. He is voiced by Isaac Hayes. He refers to Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny as 'children' even if there is only one of them present. He once almost married a succubus, but the boys saved him. His parents live in Scotland, and his mother has a tendency to offer any problem that has a soul, "tree-fiddy" or three dollars and fifty cents, mainly to the Loch Ness Monster.

See also: Chocolate Salty Balls, Chewbacca Defense.

Chef's appearances have been more and more limited as the show has progressed.

On March 14, 2006, Isaac Hayes (Voice Of Chef ) quit South Park in saying that he didn't like how South Park was treating various religions, claiming that there was a difference between satire and intolerance.

Ms. Diane Choksondik

File:Choksondik.gif
Ms. Choksondik

After Mr. Garrison was temporarily suspended from teaching duties, he was replaced by Ms. Diane Choksondik (pronounced "chokes-on-dick," a bit of foreshadowing), who was most notable for her implausibly large, saggy breasts and one lazy eye. She also strongly resembles former Attorney General Janet Reno. Ms. Choksondik died in the middle of the sixth season, and Mr. Garrison eventually replaced her as the fourth grade teacher. Before her death, Ms. Choksondik had a sexual relationship (her first, contrary to what the name "chokes on dick" would seem to imply) with Mr. Mackey, after preparing sex education classes for the 4th grade children (as well as kindergarten). Her apparent cause of death was choking to death on Mr. Mackey's penis while performing oral sex on him. The children often refer to her as Ms. "Makes-me-sick" or Ms. "Chokes-on-Rocks", completely missing the apparently too-good-to-be-true humor of her real name. Her Spanish name is "Srita. Selastraga", Spanish for "Ms. Swallowit".

Principal Victoria Principal

Principal Victoria

Principal Victoria is the principal of South Park Elementary School. She is indecisive and eager to avoid any controversy. She speaks with a strong Minnesotan accent.

It is unknown whether Victoria is her first or last name (or both). Her inverted name is a reference to actress Victoria Principal. It is implied that she has had a sexual relationship with Mrs. Cartman, possibly making her a potential mother for Cartman.

Mrs. Veronica Crabtree

File:Crabtree.gif
Mrs. Crabtree

Veronica Crabtree was the school bus driver. She appeared to be suffering from paranoia, or at least was mentally unstable; she had a bird living in her hair and constantly asked the children on her bus "What did you say?" after they insulted her. They would say something else that sounds similar in order to avoid trouble. An example:

"You fat, withered up, dried hog."
"What did you say!?"
"I said, 'I always wanted to travel to Prague'"
"Oh, me too."

Or

"I SAID SIT DOWN!!!"
"Yeah, Whatever, you fat bitch."
"What did you say!?"
"I said I have a bad itch."
"Oh."

In one episode, however, Stan says what he really means to her:

"We're not getting on you fat, ugly bitch."
"What did you say!?"
"I said, We're not getting on you fat ugly bitch."
"Oh, alrighty then." (drives off)
"Dude! I always wondered if that would work."

In the 2004 episode "Cartman's Incredible Gift", Mrs. Crabtree was murdered by a serial killer. At that point she had not been seen for several seasons, and it was even commented by a detective in the episode: "She may not have been in any recent episodes, but dammit she deserved better than this!"

One of the most notable scenes that she was involved in was when Kenny planned to climb into her uterus for 6 hours (Fat Camp). When asked how she felt that her cervix was dilated and had oxygen tanks put in her vagina, she responded "Great! I haven't had this much attention paid to my cooch since I was sixteen."

Mr. Mackey

Mr. Mackey is the school's guidance counselor. He has an unusually large head (due to a tightly knotted tie, which, when taken off, deflates his cranium to normal size) and is known for beginning and ending sentences with his trademark, "m'kay?" (reminiscent of David Van Driessen from Beavis and Butthead). He constantly warns the children that "drugs are bad (m'kay!)".

Ms. Ellen

Ms. Ellen was a substitute teacher in episode 111, "Tom's Rhinoplasty". She caught the attention of Stan Marsh who threw up every time he saw her. This made Wendy Testaburger jealous and she organized a plot to get rid of her from the school. When Stan tells her how he feels, she explains to him that she is a lesbian. The four boys then proceeded to eat a box and lick carpet, literal examples of lesbian sex. Later, she is captured by Iraqis and is shot into the sun. Her name is obviously a reference to lesbian actress Ellen DeGeneres.

Timmy

File:Timmy.gif
Timmy

Timmy is a blond child in a wheelchair, who can usually only say his own name, a garbled line that sounds like "livin' a lie," and Jimmy's name. In some episodes, he says some other basic words: in a Thanksgiving school play where Timmy plays the part of Helen Keller, he could say "Gobbles", the name of a disabled turkey the children bought to act in the play (episode 414: Helen Keller! The Musical). In one episode, in which the boys attempt to go back in time, he actually successfully yells, "Someone please help me!" as he rolls down the highway. In the Episode: Timmy 2000, he managed to say "Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld". He also add 1 to the count of 'shit's in It Hits The Fan

In one episode, he is part of a successful band, singing lead for Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld, despite his limited vocabulary. During the episode, people complain that he is being exploited, even though he achieves extreme popularity. When his parents are interviewed, it is discovered that they share the same disability as Timmy.

Timmy was originally described as being mentally retarded, but over time his character has become described less as such and more often as "disabled". In various episodes (such as Up the Down Steroid) he appears to be quite cognisant, intelligent and principled. He appears to have hydrocephalus, as well as involuntary movements.

Timmy is friends with South Park's other disabled character, Jimmy, who can actually understand what Timmy is saying. Although in the first episode in which Jimmy appears, "Cripple Fight," Timmy is intensely jealous of him and even tries to have him killed (by giving him a parka that made him look like Kenny). Additionally, Jimmy's face is photoshopped, by Timmy, onto some explicit picture, which results in his expulsion from the scouts, much to Timmy's delight.

Due to the popularity of the South Park show, Timmy's exclamation "TIMMEH!" soon entered popular culture as an outburst used to describe, chide, or respond to moments of extreme uncoordination, lack of concentration or other losses of logic, sense or reason. It also sounds like the Japanese word 'temee', which is a rude variation of the word 'temae', a way of addressing someone. Trey Parker is fluent in Japanese, so its use here may not be a coincidence.

Token Black (formerly Token Williams)

File:Token Black.png
Token Black

Token Williams/Black is the only black child in the main characters' class. His name comes from the phrase "token minority," typically used to describe non-white persons thrown into small roles in TV shows and movies. In a satire on racial stereotypes, Token's family is the wealthiest of the families shown on South Park.

In the episode Here Comes the Neighborhood, Token's last name is said to be "Williams", but in episodes Quest for Ratings and Wing, his last name is said to be "Black". This may either simply be his stage name, or the South Park creators may have either forgotten it or deliberately changed it (see "Jimmy" below).

In episode 401, "Cartman's Silly Hate Crime 2000", Cartman is sent to juvenile detention for a hate crime after he assaulted Token.

In episode 512, Here Comes the Neighborhood, Token is being bullied by his classmates because his parents are rich; his dad makes at least US$200,000 per year, they live in a house four times as big as the other houses in South Park and he has lobster in his lunch box. Token tries to blend in by wearing cheap clothes bought at J-Mart (a parody of K-Mart), instead of Armani, but does not really succeed. Token then writes to a real estate developer so there will be more rich kids in South Park. Eventually Will Smith, Snoop Dogg, Oprah Winfrey and P. Diddy all come to live in South Park, with their children (who play polo and speak with a British English accent). Mr. Garrison successfully incites the regular 'poor' people in SP to begin discriminating and protesting against the inflow of rich people — by burning large wooden "lower case t's" (for 'time to leave') in the rich people's yards and scaring them by dressing up as ghosts (in white sheets that look like KKK outfits), since supposedly rich people are afraid of ghosts. Finally all the rich people move away from SP and Mr. Garrison suggests to sell all the rich people's houses so they themselves can become rich. Jimbo reminds him that that was exactly not the point and after brief thought Mr. Garrison exclaims: "Well at least I got rid of all those damn ni...!" thereupon being abruptly cut off by the end of the show and the credits.

In episode 709, Christian Hard Rock, Token was the bass player for Cartman's Christian rock band, Faith + 1. Token didn't know he could play bass until Cartman told him: "You're black, so you can play bass". Token then responds with a classic and smooth bass line, supporting Butters' drumming. He was quite surprised to find that particular skill in himself - and more than surprised, irritated to see Cartman's stereotype proven true.

In episode 714,"Raisins", he steals Wendy Testaburger from Stan, who flips him off because of it.

In the episode Quest for Ratings his last name is given not as Williams, but as Black; this seems to have been confirmed in Wing. This break in continuity is probably to utilise the pun of Token's name, that he is, literally, the show's "token black."

Wendy Testaburger

File:Wendy.jpg
Wendy Testaburger

Wendy was, for a long time, the object of Stan's affections; however, he would throw up out of nervousness whenever she came near him. She later dumped him for Token.

She is quite liberal in her political views, and often argues with Cartman. She is easily the smartest of all the children in the class, for example, in the episode "Tom's Rhinoplasty", she disposes of the substitute teacher, communicating in fluent Arabic with Iraqi agents.

Wendy tends to get extremely jealous. When Stan becomes enamoured with the substitute teacher (Miss Ellen), Wendy tries to win him back by wearing a tight leather skirt and heavy makeup; when that doesn't work, she has Miss Ellen shot into the sun. When all the boys become obsessed with Bebe's breasts in "Bebe's Boobs Destroy Society", Wendy gets breast implants for three thousand dollars, only to be laughed at by her classmates, and poked by Butters.

Her character was reportedly inspired by Trey Parker's former fiancée, who broke off their engagement and married someone else – just weeks before South Park became a hit.

Quotes:

"Hi, Stan!"
[Stan vomits]
"Eeeewwww!"
"Oh, look, a French fry"

Bebe Stevens

File:Bebe.png
Bebe Stevens

Bebe is Wendy's blonde-haired best friend. She once had a "relationship" with Kyle, but after she couldn't take the "codependency", she started another "relationship" with Clyde. She is the first of the South Park kids to hit puberty, as seen in Episode 610 "Bebe's Boobs Destroy Society".

Philip "Pip" Pirrip

Pip is a British child who is extremely unpopular with his classmates due to his foreign ancestry and his general wimpiness. The other boys generally assume him to be French, even though he hates the French. His character is based on Pip from Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, a book which series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone hated; the explanation that Dickens' Pip gives for his nickname is the same one South Park's Pip gives for his. In episode 205, "Conjoined Fetus Lady", Pip is a main character.

Episode 405 took time away from South Park to present Matt Stone and Trey Parker's version of Great Expectations. Naturally, this episode features Pip heavily and bears his name as the title. Malcolm McDowell of A Clockwork Orange fame introduces and narrates the story. This episode has been rerun by Comedy Central.

Clyde Donovan

Clyde Donovan is best known as being the second fattest kid in South Park, as seen in Cartman's Silly Hate Crime 2000 (episode 401). He has consistently remained present throughout the 9 seasons, though recently, he has taken on a larger role, alongside "Craig and those guys," as Cartman often calls the group.

Craig

File:Craig.gif
Craig

Even though he hangs out with the boys, Craig is most well known for flipping off people seemingly without reason, and is often seen sitting outside the principal's office. (His parents also seem to have this problem.) One possible explanation for this is that he has Tourette's Syndrome. Additionally, he had short success on South Park Elementary's Television Station with a show that featured close-up shots of animals with a wide angle lens, and he later added hats to the animals on his show. The show was cancelled after some of the other South Park characters did an exposé on ongoing cough syrup addiction in the school on their competing News Show. Craig's show was cancelled for its incredible drop in ratings after cough syrup was banned. Whenever Cartman gets something new or does something impressive, he often insists that he and Stan, Kyle and Kenny go tell "Craig and those guys" before they do anything else.

Speculation has been made about Craig's last name being "Nommel", but is as of yet unconfirmed by the creators or anyone else.

Jimmy Vulmer

File:Jimmy.gif
Jimmy

Like Timmy, he is handicapped, but he uses crutches to walk and is able to speak to people (albeit with a stutter). He likes to perform stand-up comedy. His favorite song is The Twelve Days of Christmas, which he (excruciatingly) performs in front of City Hall. In the episode "Cripple Fight" he and Timmy engage in a fistfight that is, shot-for-shot, nearly identical to the fistfight scene in They Live. Later, though, they get along very well, playing together in a Lord of the Rings parody, teaming up against Christopher Reeve in "Krazy Kripples" and in "Up the Down Steroid." Jimmy seems to be the only one who can understand Timmy's utterances. His last name is uncertain; he was known as "Jim Swanson" in "Krazy Kripples," but "Vulmer" in the episode "Up the Down Steroid" and "Mr. Garrison's Fancy New Vagina" (it was possibly changed in order to avoid confusion with another handicapped character in an animated show, Joe Swanson from Family Guy, a show that Trey Parker and Matt Stone hate). It is therefore assumed that "Vulmer" is his last name. Jimmy has recently started to expand his role on South Park; it is unknown if he is being eased in as a main character.

He additionally appears to have tremendous arm strength, perhaps due to his use of crutches. (The same appears true with Timmy - in their fight in "Cripple Fight", they throw punches at each other that seem ridiculously overpowered for their age.)

Kevin C.

One of the few students who has been named, Kevin is present in the classroom scenes from the very first episode and accompanied the boys to fourth grade. He has straight black hair, wears a sky-blue jacket (which is why he is known in the storyboards as "Sky") and red gloves. In the third grade, he's usually in the second or third row and in the fourth grade, he's in the front row. He is not to be confused with Mephesto's silent companion or Kenny's rarely heard-from brother. In Conjoined Fetus Lady, it was revealed that his parents are Chinese, although he doesn't bear the slanted eyes of the native Chinese children who appear in the same episode. Rather, he has the same set of eyes as the main characters. He is first referred to by name in An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig by Mr. Garrison as "Casey" (possibly "K.C." from which the initial of his last name is assumed), but is referred to by Stan in Conjoined Fetus Lady as Kevin. Since then, he has consistedntly been referred to as "Kevin", usually by Cartman. He rarely speaks but does so on the bus to China in said episode and again in The Return of the Lord of the Rings to the Two Towers though his voice sounds significantly different in the latter. This may have been because of the Stormtrooper helmet he was wearing, but that doesn't fully explain the lisp which was not present in Conjoined Fetus Lady. In "Marjorine", he goes back to his original Craig/Clyde-like voice.

Kindergarteners

The Kindergarteners were first introduced when Mr. Garrison was made their teacher after losing his job as the third grade teacher. The kindergarteners are voiced by real-life toddlers and speak in garbled baby talk. Among the toddlers is Ike Broflovski, who joined the class as a three year old and won class president in the episode "Trapper Keeper".

The Kindergarteners can also be found in Treasure Cove when all of the adults were sent to jail for "molestering" their children. They live opposite Smiley Town and frighten the Outlander. They live their lives to get the book so they will not be sacrificed to the provider (a John Elway statue).

Goth Kids

File:Goth Kids.jpg

A small clique of Goths hang around the back of the school. The things they talk about are rather depressing, and they constantly refer to themselves as "nonconformist," but are portrayed as cookie-cutter clichés. Conformists are referred to by the Goths as "Britney and Justin wannabes." Stan joined them for a while after Wendy left him, and later recruited one of them for his dance troupe. They even performed as a band (reminiscent of Depeche Mode) at the talent show in the episode "Erection Day." The female Goth's name has been revealed to be 'Henrietta', but the other Goths' first names are as of yet unknown.

Miscellaneous

Mr. Grazier

A militant scout master who replaced Big Gay Al after he was kicked out of scouts for being gay ("Cripple Fight"). He subsequently turned out to be a child molester known as "Mr. Slippy Fist" and took nude pictures of the boys before being arrested by the FBI.

Quote:"You know what I say about kids... they're all pink on the inside."

Mr. Hankey

Mr. Hankey, the "Christmas Poo," is the scatological counterpart to Frosty the Snowman, with the light-hearted flair of 60's-era Rankin & Bass holiday specials. He emerges from the toiletbowl on Christmas Eve and brings presents to boys and girls with high fiber diets. Mr. Hankey has appeared in at least three Christmas episodes, and inspired an actual retail CD (Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics) in which he has his own theme song. In one episode he departed from the Christmas theme to drive a snooty annual ('anal' according to Mr. Garrison) film festival out of town with a tornado made of sewage. His trademark line is "Hiiiiiiiiii-dee ho!" It made be mentioned that the only South Park character that has a continued love of Mr. Hankey is Kyle.

Big Gay Al

File:Big Gay Al.gif
Big Gay Al

Main article: Big Gay Al

Big Gay Al is a stereotypical gay man. He runs an animal farm for gay animals who have been rejected by homophobic pet owners. He also appeared in South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, entertaining U.S. troops. He sang the song 'I'm Super' whilst the kids tried to free Terrance and Phillip. He was banned as a Boy Scout leader for being homosexual, to be replaced by a 'macho man' who took nude photographs of the children. On November 2nd of 2005, Big Gay Al married Mr. Slave (Garrison's ex-boyfriend). Apparently, he has a chode.

Mr. Slave

Mr. Slave is the former gay lover and sex slave of teacher Mr. Garrison. Mr. Slave was first introduced as a replacement for Mr. Garrison's beloved hand-puppet Mr. Hat. Mr. Slave has been known to insert animals into his anus as in the episode 'The Death Camp of Tolerance' in which a gerbil named Lemmiwinks must travel through Mr. Slave's digestive system with the help of the spirits of other animals who perished there. In 'Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset', Paris Hilton suffers an identical fate. Mr. Slave is no longer Mr. Garrison's lover after episode 901 Mr. Garrison's Fancy New Vagina, Mr. Slave states that he doesn't like vaginas because he is gay. Later, in the episode Follow That Egg!, Mr. Slave and Big Gay Al get married, to the frustration of Mr. Garrison.

Jimbo Kern and Ned Gerblansky

Stan's uncle Jimbo Kern (who is presumably Sharon's brother) and his sidekick Ned Gerblansky represent South Park's large population of stereotypical "hicks". They are obsessed with large trucks, beer, guns, explosions, and killing animals. They detest "liberals" and circumvent anti-hunting laws by yelling "it's coming right for us!" before shooting any animal, thereby justifying the kill as self defense.

Jimbo and Ned met while in the Vietnam War, where Jimbo was a helicopter pilot. During the war, Ned lost his right arm when a hand grenade exploded in his hand. It is unknown why he never got a mechanical replacement. Ned also lost his formerly mellifluous voice due to cancer, apparently caused by cigarette smoking, and is forced to speak with an electronic voicebox.

In the episode "It Hits the Fan" it is hinted that Jimbo is a homosexual.

Officer Barbrady

Until the seventh season, Officer Barbrady was the town's only policeman. Since then, the South Park police force has expanded to include other officers, such as Sergeant Yates. The police force motto on his squad car is, "To Patronize and Annoy." He was illiterate until forced to learn to read to solve a crime. He then read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, an experience that made him regret ever learning to read. He has a hearing aid and speaks louder than he should. He is often mocked by adults and children alike (i.e. Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny call him "Officer Butt-baby")

Mayor and aides

Mayor McDaniels

Mayor McDaniels is the mayor of South Park. Even though she is a Princeton University graduate, she is a largely incompetent politician and is mostly interested in getting good publicity for herself. Her two sycophantic aides usually tell her what to do.

The mayor often openly opines that she hates South Park and considers the people who live in it to be a collection of "brain-dead hicks". She hates Barbrady as well, but is largely stuck with him; however, it is implied that they have had some secret, rather unusual liasions together (in Pinkeye and Summer Sucks). It is sometimes implied that she is a closet lesbian.

In the episode 902, Die Hippie, Die, she attempted to commit suicide by shooting herself in the head, but was later shown in that same episode with a bloody bandage around her head. South Park producers answered this query when posed by a viewer that she has no brain, hence she did not die.

Dr. Alphonse Mephisto and Kevin

File:Mephisto.gif
Dr. Mephisto

Dr. Alphonse Mephisto is a stereotyped mad scientist, who specialises in genetic engineering, and like Frankenstein, proceeds to create strange creatures without stopping to consider whether he should. Dr. Mephisto is based on Marlon Brando's character in the 1996 movie version of "The Island of Dr. Moreau". He is also the father of Terrance who once competed against Kyle in a science fair project.

He often seems interested in genetically engineering creatures with more than one pair of buttocks - an apparent parody of the (real world) creation of a mouse with a human ear growing from its back [1].

He is a member of NAMBLA, the 'North American Marlon Brando Look Alikes'.

File:Kevin-Southpark.gif
Kevin

He is often followed by a short odd looking man/boy-person named Kevin, wearing the same clothes as Dr. Mephisto. He quietly follows Mephisto as if he is an assistant, though he rarely assists with anything, and never speaks. It was revealed in Primus's song "Mephisto and Kevin" that Kevin was an experiment to create the perfect pop star, a clone of Michael Jackson that was birthed by a llama. He has a sweet, golden voice that was never heard in the show. In the Spontaneous Combustion episode, Dr. Mephisto complains (mentioning the name Kevin) that the Nobel Prize awards were rigged when he came out 2nd, after Randy Marsh, with his genetically engineered seven-assed Galápagos tortoise.

In the Cartman's Mom is a Dirty Slut story arc, Mephisto agrees to test several of the men in South Park to find out who Cartman's father was; both he and Kevin were actually potential fathers, along with nearly every other adult male in town. Neither Mephisto or Kevin have been shown in recent seasons.

Towelie

Towelie is a sophisticated, high tech towel. His action is mostly limited to giving towel advice ('Don't forget to bring a towel', a reference to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) and getting high on pot/weed. Although proclaimed by Cartman to be the "worst character ever," he became instantly popular with South Park fans. He is often quoted, and Comedy Central was quick to release Towelie merchandise. He was created as a satirical character based on corporate-created characters in an effort to sell merchandise (whom usually spout catch-phrases and abuse drugs in an effort to be recognised as 'cool'). Ironically he had this same effect as a corporation-created fad. He has a small amount of experience with playing the guitar, although he may become high before this, and not play so well.

Quote: You wanna get high? and Don't forget to bring a towel.

Halfie

A disheveled, legless Army veteran, possibly mentally disturbed or shell-shocked. He claimed to be the man responsible for serial sexual assaults on chickens in the "Chicken Lover" episode. Mr. Garrison replied, "Oh, you can't screw anybody, Halfie; you don't have any legs!" This is also given as the reason why Halfie is one of few men in South Park who hasn't slept with Cartman's mom. Halfie might be a reference to Lieutenant Dan from the movie Forrest Gump.

Priest Maxi

File:Maxi.gif
Priest Maxi

Priest Maxi (also known as Father Maxi) is a Catholic priest who serves as the mouthpiece for South Park's Christian community. He is a narrow-minded and intolerant man who is convinced most people are going to be damned to Hell, often for trivial offenses. In one episode he bluntly claimed that Timmy would go to Hell, since Timmy cannot confess his sins, as he cannot speak anything fluently.

Despite his character flaws, it was he who, in one episode, unearthed the massive corruption behind the many church-related sexual assaults and forced the Catholic Church to stop letting priests molest young boys, even though he performed fornication (with an adult female) in a confession booth himself and on the episode Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride, he was said to have gay sex with a male character.

He also seems to know very little about religion - once, when seeing Jesus, he exclaimed "Hey, it's that guy from the Public Access show!"

Much like Principal Victoria, his inverted name is a reference to singer Maxi Priest. Like many men in SP, he's a great fan of the Denver Broncos.

Tuong Lu Kim (City Wok Guy)

File:Citywok.gif
Tuong Lu Kim, owner of City Wok

City Wok is a Chinese restaurant, apparently the only one of its kind in South Park. The restaurant first appeared in episode #601: Jared Has Aides. The word "city" appears often in the restaurant, its entreés and in the owners' dialogue (the joke being that his accent makes the word "city" sound like "shitty"; however, when he pronounced words starting with 'sh', such as 'shrimp', he ends up saying 'cimp'.)

City Wok also doubles as the airline company City Airlines, which took Kyle and his friends to Canada (episode #715: It's Christmas in Canada) so they could retrieve Kyle's adoptive brother Ike.

City Wok is managed and operated by Tuong Lu Kim. He has also constructed a city wall (obviously fashioned after the Great Wall of China) for South Park, per the request of parents who wanted to protect their children from being kidnapped (episode #611: Child Abduction is Not Funny). Like its Chinese counterpart, the wall faced constant invasion from Mongolians. He is married to a Chinese woman named Wing, fashioned after and played by the singer; she was smuggled into the country by the Chinese Mafia.

Jesus

File:Jesus-Southpark.gif
Jesus

Jesus has - or had - his own cable access show in South Park, Jesus and Pals. He has offered much sage advice to the boys, who have also discovered that all of Jesus' miracles were in fact rather clumsy sleight of hand, though he was seen performing genuine miracles in later episodes. However, in the sixth season Christmas episode, Red Sleigh Down, "He" was killed by an Iraqi soldier while protecting Santa and the boys, and has not appeared since; He was apparently killed permanently, but presumably He could be resurrected and appear in a later episode. He has been spotted in a crowd scene in the 100th episode, I'm A Little Bit Country.

Satan

In addition to Jesus, Satan the Prince of Darkness is also often seen on South Park, though he actually lives in one of the few places worse than the town (Hell). Apparently, Satan on South Park is gay, though he also has a son named Damien. Satan has had relationships with Saddam Hussein, most particularly in South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut and the Do the Handicapped Go To Hell?/Probably fourth-season religious story arc. He also had a boyfriend named Chris afterwards, but left both of them in an attempt to find himself. He later seemed to have a boyfriend named Kevin, but broke up with him too.

Satan has tried on at least three occasions ("Damien," "SP:BLU" and "Best Friends Forever") to take over Earth and/or Heaven, but has yet to succeed. Nevertheless he is often a sympathetic character, his romantic problems getting more airtime than his plans for evil. Often he seems to be playing the role of a tough guy, though in reality he is lonely and depressed inside.

Saddam Hussein

Saddam Hussein is also a recurring character on South Park, though his biography on the show does not parallel the real dictator's life very well---according to the show, Saddam died a while back (in "Terrance and Phillip in Not Without My Anus"; In later episodes, Satan and the Canadian government claims he was mauled by wild boars. In A Ladder to Heaven,George Bush says that the U.S. government secretly killed him.) and went to hell, where he started a homosexual relationship with Satan (see above). However, Satan, being more sensitive than one would think, was hurt by Saddam's constant emotional abuse and downtalking, and Saddam was really more interested in using Satan as a way to return to Earth than in love (see South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut). Satan eventually killed Saddam, which of course only caused him to go back to Hell, and after some drama involving Satan's new lover, Chris (see Do the Handicapped Go To Hell?/Probably), Saddam was sent to Heaven, inhabited only by the souls of sanctimonious Mormons; eternity there was for Saddam a torture worse than Hell.

When Saddam began to be in the news during the lead-up to the Second Gulf War, South Park creators had to tinker with their storyline to make a good parody. In "A Ladder to Heaven", the American government suspects Saddam of making WMDs in Heaven and plans to invade; they eventually give up, yet it is revealed that actually they were right, Saddam had made a weapons factory in the sky. Finally, in "It's Christmas in Canada"---which originally aired only three days after the real Saddam Hussein was captured---South Park featured an episode where Saddam was found, somehow on Earth, in Canada and captured---he has not been seen since. He also made a brief appearance in Krazy Kripples as part of Christopher Reeve's Legion of Doom.

Scott "The Dick"

Scott is a Canadian who is hated by everyone. He is a Television critic for a magazine, which could explain his hatred for Terrance and Phillip and their brand of fart humor. Whenever he annoys someone the person will respond by saying "Scott, you're a dick!". Scott's head, while the same as all other Canadian heads, seems to resemble a German World War II helmet. He wears either a plain t-shirt with the letter S on it, or a brown shirt and red tie.

Scott Tenorman

The other major character by the name of Scott was Scott Tenorman from "Scott Tenorman Must Die". Scott is a 15 year old who scammed Cartman into buying some of his pubic hair ("pubes" as is stated in the episode). Cartman then tried several attempts to scam, demand, and beg for his Money back from Scott. Scott, however, would consistently outsmart and humiliate Cartman, eventually reducing Eric to sing "I am a little Piggy" to the tune of "I am a little Tea Pot" begging for his money back. More revenge attempts would follow, and just when Scott Tenorman thought he had ultimately humiliated Cartman by forcing him to ingest pubic hair from South Park's entire teenage population in a bowl of chile, Cartman turned the tables on Scott in an extreme, shocking, and grotesque manner, making him eat his dead parents in a bowl of chili. Commenting on how Cartman beat Scott, Stan and Kyle mention "We better not piss off Cartman ever again."

Dr. Doctor

Dr. Doctor, the only doctor in South Park and at Hells Pass Hospital, often treats the kids of South Park after bullying. In his diagnosis, he often uses the kids' slang terms to describe their injuries such as "second-degree titty twister" (See List of school pranks).

He is entirely incompetent as a doctor and in the film South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut (where he was played by George Clooney) he replaced Kenny's heart with a baked potato; a reference to a song in Cannibal! The Musical. After Cartman supposedly gained psychic powers by falling off a building, he diagnosed Cartman as 'incredibly stupid'.

Farmer Carl Denkins

Denkins is a farmer, who lives just outside South Park. He shot and killed Scott Tenorman's parents for trespassing on his property. In episode 605 Fun with Veal, he was known as Rancher Bob. In the early episodes, his chicken fell prey to the chicken lover, his cows were mutilated by aliens and performed a mass suicide.

Sergeant Louis Yates

File:Yates.gif
Sergeant Yates

Sgt. Lou Yates is an inept Irish-American police officer who first appeared in the 7th season episode "Christian Rock Hard", showing the boys what happens to musicians when people download music for free from the Internet. His first main role is when Michael Jackson (disguised as Mr. Jefferson) moves into South Park. Yates basically hates any black man wealthier than himself and frames him —as Mark Fuhrman was accused of doing to O.J. Simpson— but becomes freaked out when he realizes "Mr. Jefferson" is "white". He reappears in "Cartman's Incredible Gift" investigating the "serial killer" where he is the stupid cop that believes Cartman is psychic. He seemed to replace Officer Barbrady for most of the eighth season, but the other reappeared in the seventh. His wife, Maggie, speaks with an Irish accent.

Skylar

Skylar is a 23 year old high schooler and a member of the group Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld (previously just the Lords of the Underworld), before leaving to form his own band called Reach For The Skylar after Timmy got all the acclaim. He has quite a high-pitched voice, is very immature for his age, and is often remarked to be a total douchebag. In one famous episode, he dates Shelly Marsh, Stan's 12 year old sister, and her revenge against him for dumping her is aided by Cartman, which brings the two together.

Mr. Twig

Frequenty forgotten 3rd Mr. Garrison friend, replacing Mr. Hat for a short time when Mr. Hat ran away in the episode Summer Sucks. Mr. Hat was seen in a sauna with Brett Favre and a bottle of Thousand Island Dressing... Mr. Hat, being a "two timing whore" was replaced by Mr. Twig who understood him more.... Mr. Twig suffered repeated attempts on his life by Mr. Hat in the episode Chef Aid, and in the end let Mr. Garrison return to Mr. Hat.

God

God appears as a rodent like being, resembling a hybrid of a hippopotamus, cat, and a lizard. He likes to catch flies with his lizard-like tongue. He arrives whenever he is called out. When he appears he first appears as a resplendent white orb. God himself is a Buddhist, though only Mormons and later in the series Kenny were allowed to enter heaven. He is not hestitant to swear or use his or Jesus's name in vain.

Starvin' Marvin

Starvin' Marvin is a very thin Ethiopian boy who first appeared in Season One's Thanksgiving special, Starvin' Marvin. He later appeared in Starvin' Marvin in Space, in which he relocated his fellow Ethiopians to the planet Marklar.

Terrance and Philip

File:Terranceandphilip.gif
Terrance and Philip

The children of South Park watch a cartoon called 'The Terrance and Phillip Show'. This popular Canadian cartoon is about two Canadians, Terrance and Phillip, who believe farting is funny. The comedy sketches on the show involve a character farting, possibly on the other's head, and then both laughing. Their hobbies include dressing up as pirates and searching for treasure in public places, such as the subway. When they are not looking for treasure, they are saving Canada or eating Kraft Dinner, pronounced Kroff Dinner in a Canadian accent.

Terrance and Phillip's main enemy on the show comes in the form of Scott, who thinks they are disgusting for always farting. When he gets very annoyed, Scott wishes cancer on them.

One of their few friends is Ugly Bob. They call him Ugly Bob because "he has the features of a deformed burns victim" and his "face looks like somebody tried to put out a forest fire with a screwdriver." Because of his hideous looks, Terrance and Phillip gave Bob a bag to wear over his head so people wouldn't see his face. (However, when the bag is removed, Ugly Bob's face appears identical to any other Canadian's, including Terrance and Phillip.)

Terrance used to be in a relationship with Celine Dion and had a daughter with her called Sally, who was later kidnapped by Saddam Hussein in a deal with Scott, who wanted to get back at Terrance and Phillip. Dion later started a relationship with Ugly Bob.

Terrance and Phillip are two of the main characters in South Park:Bigger Longer & Uncut. Kyle's mom has them arrested and eventually executed for corrupting children with their movie Asses of Fire.

They own a dog called Barky and a cat called Purry.

Mr. Derp

A character very in to slapstick, replaced Chef for a short amount of time in The Succubus. He wears an apron which reads, "come an' get it!" His name, according to the commentary on the episode, comes from a word invented by Trey Parker and Matt Stone themselves, which they say means "an obvious joke." The word "derp" is also used later, in fake Rob Schneider movie advertisements in the episode The Biggest Douche in the Universe. Mr. Derp can also be seen briefly in "Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls," running a food stand in the background, and in Timmy 2000, running a lemonade stand at Lalapalalapaza.

Jakov & Junjun

Jakov and Junjun (the latter renamed "Hope" by the Mayor) are the only known living pair of an extremely rare species known as the Jakovasaurus (pronounced "Jack-off-a-saurus"). They resemble a cross between a human being and a rubber chicken, and at first possess linguistic patterns similar to those of Gungans. Though arguably good natured, the loud and obnoxious Jakovasaurs are despised unanimously by the residents of South Park, with the only exception being Eric Cartman, who inexplicably finds their moronic slapstick antics to be downright hilarious, and their personalities completely likeable. The pair and their offspring were eventually tricked into relocating to France, where their Jerry Lewis-esque behavior was much more appreciated.
