One Direction

One Direction is an English boyband, consisting of members Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne. They finished third on the seventh series of ITV reality talent show The X Factor. Following The X Factor, the group signed a £2 million record contract with Syco.

History

2010: The X Factor

The band applied as solo candidates to the competition, but failed to qualify for the Boys category. After a suggestion by guest judge Nicole Scherzinger, the five teens were put into a band, thus qualifying for the Groups category.

After the elimination of F.Y.D., Diva Fever and Belle Amie within four weeks they were Simon Cowell's last act in the competition. However every week they received much praise from the judges.

One Direction finished third behind runner up, Rebecca Ferguson and winner, Matt Cardle.

Immediately after the series finished, their single "Forever Young", which would have been what they would have released if they had won, was leaked onto the internet.

On 1 July 2011 it was announced One Direction's next licensed book, Dare to Dream: Life as One Direction, will be released on 15 September.[2]

The single has now been pushed back to being released in August in order to coincide with the launch of the new series of X Factor.[4] While on the show, they also confirmed they are the new ambassadors for Pokémon.[5] On 29 July 2011 the band made an appearance on Alan Carr: Chatty Man.[6]

They have been hard at work on developing their debut album with X Factor coach Savan Kotecha.[7]

The band will release their debut single, "What Makes You Beautiful" on September 11, 2011.[8] It was written by Carl Falk, Savan Kotecha and Rami Yacoub.[9] The song will receive it's first airplay on August 10, 2011.
