Vistara is an Indian airline established as a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines. The new carrier, announced in 2013, will start operations from 9 January 2015.[needs update] The maiden flight will fly between Deihi and Mumbai.

The airline is a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines (SIA). The carrier was announced in 2013 and will be a full-service airline based in New Delhi. The two companies will initially invest a combined US$100 million to start the carrier, with Tata Sons owning 51 per cent and Singapore Airlines owning the remaining 49 per cent.[1][2] The Tata and SIA joint-venture received approval from India's Foreign Investment Promotion Board in October 2013, allowing SIA to take a 49 percent stake in the airline.[3] Vistara is taken from the Sanskrit word Vistaar (Hindi- विस्तार), meaning "expansion".[4][5]

Destinations

The airline plans to operate 87 weekly flights linking its hub in Delhi to Mumbai, Goa, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Jammu, Srinagar, and Patna.[6] On 15 December 2014, Vistara received an air operator's permit and will reveal their routes and schedule shortly.[7] Vistara opened for bookings on 19 December 2014 and its first flight will be on 9 January 2015 between Delhi and Mumbai with its brand new Airbus 320.

Fleet

The airline has two Airbus A320s with 18 more on order.[8][9] The airline's first A320 was delivered on 23 September 2014[10] and arrived in Delhi on 25 September 2014.[11] Vistara will increase its fleet to 20 aircraft, including A320neos, by the end of the fifth year of operation. The leased aircraft are being sourced from Singapore-based BOC Aviation.[6]
