Information icon Hello, I'm 117Avenue. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Swan Hills, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! 117Avenue (talk) 03:26, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

BLP isssues reported to administrators

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.

Since it hasn't been mentioned, I'm going to expand on the above. First, you're not in any trouble. You made a question at the Humanities Ref Desk about the Westroads Mall shooting. The material in question is a likely BLP vio and will need removing. I'll notify you if anything changes regarding you. Otherwise, carry on as normal for the time being. Please ask at Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Humanities instead. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:25, 8 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies. I totally did not notice that it was a post about how to edit. I have restored your post here, at its rightful place at the help desk. Again, I am terribly sorry. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:48, 8 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Notice

The article Austin Sims has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Speedy deletion nomination of SOUCII

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on SOUCII requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. George Beauchamp (RMS Titanic) moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, George Beauchamp (RMS Titanic), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your page to draft space (with a prefix of Draft: before the article title) where you can work on it with minimal disruption. When you feel that it meets our notability and neutrality requirements, and is thus ready for mainspace, please submit it using the Articles for Creation template on the page. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:03, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"The Opera House Players is a nonprofit volunteer-based community theatre group based out of Enfield CT. Founded in 1968 (originally the St Martha Players) we are one of the oldest groups in the area performing exclusively musical theatre."

A reliable source? Thank you. --LLcentury

Helped. You are asking for a reliable source for two statements copy-pasted directly from http://www.operahouseplayers.org/about? I'd suggest you start with reliable sources about the company and then figure out what can be written about them. If you have any questions, you are always welcome to ask me on my talk page. George Beauchamp

Thank you. I do not suggest that the content about Beauchamp's life are hoaxes, but that the sourcing-and-content are wrong together. Each citation says "This information came from this source", and just a few quick checks found that this was not right: you said things and cited sources that did not say what you claimed they said. For example, you used this source to cite a statement about his parents and birthplace. Nyttend (talk) 11:31, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry I scared you. I did not think of blocking you or asking someone else to block you. We block people who want to cause damage or who do not want to do better. I can see that you want to do better. Nyttend (talk) 11:37, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I am at work and cannot spend time on this right now, but I will be happy to help you later today, when I am at home. Nyttend (talk) 13:43, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
LLcentury, I'd like to add an apology here: the copyright-problem notice I left you also mentioned blocking – but that only happens for repeated copyright violations and to editors who won't listen to advice, and obviously you aren't one of those. I feel that you've had a very difficult time with George Beauchamp, and also feel that I may have contributed to that. You had chosen a difficult task – creating an article (already one of the hardest things to do here), in a language not your own, on a person for whom the sources are neither good nor consistent – so I hope you won't be discouraged that it didn't go particularly well. I hope you'll pick something easier as your next project; if I can help with that, please just ask (on this page is fine). One suggestion: you've said that English isn't your first language; you could perhaps consider editing pages on topics where the ability to read your language is a positive advantage (I read Italian and French without difficulty, so quite often edit pages where the sources are mostly written in those languages, for example). Second suggestion: choose an article that is poorly referenced, and find good sources to add to it. Let me know if I can help, OK? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 17:37, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User:Justlettersandnumbers, thank you so much, you didn't need to apologise. Yes, I chose a hard topic and I will leave it as it is since it's "stressed" me, whatever happens to the article will be fine to me and taken as experience. For example, I invite you to visit my approved DYK nomination Eduardo A. Roca, I think I did it well there, if you wish, check it :). Thanks for the advice, and I'll take advantage of my native Spanish and learned Portuguese to contribute. Best wishes. --LLcentury (talk) 19:01, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that is much better, LLcentury! Two things strike me immediately: if you translate from another Wikipedia, you must provide attribution for the work of those who created that page, preferably with a {{translated page}} template on the talk-page (as before, please ask here if you need help doing this); secondly, sources like Genealogía Familiar and Estudio Roca & Sarrabayrouse are not WP:reliable sources by our standards – one is just somebody's website, the other is the website of his own law firm, where he can (or at least, could) say whatever he wants to. Please remember, Wikipedia is built on independent reliable sources, not random stuff found on the internet. I'll leave a note about these things in your DYK nomination – they should be easy enough to fix. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:40, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yes of course I will do it, please explain me what I add to the template, because alone it appears to be an error. And I will look for another source. :) --LLcentury (talk) 20:07, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

LLcentury, I've done this one for you to show you how. The basic code is:
{{translated page| SourceLanguageCode | SourcePageTitle | version= 123456789| insertversion= 987654321| small= no| partial=}}
What I added to Talk:Eduardo A. Roca was:
{{translated page|es|Eduardo A. Roca| version= 111887157| insertversion= 897585607| small=no| partial=}}
You get those version numbers by doing "copy link" on the relevant item in the page history. As before, if you have questions do please ask! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:42, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect! I am learning!, just one last question I made on the DYK nom page, is Página 12 reliable? :) --LLcentury (talk) 20:47, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've no knowledge of the Argentine press, but Página 12 appears at first sight to be reliable; note that, as responsible journalists, they report and attribute the stuff taken from his law office website without ever claiming that it is true (... su biografía colocada en la página web del estudio de abogados Roca & Sarrabayrouse ..."). I think you will need to find a stronger source. Oh, and I compressed the picture of him to make him look almost human, you may have noticed? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:01, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes!, he looks more human! LOL. Trust me, Página 12 is a left-wing very widely distributed newspaper among Argentines. As for the source, I've just found his Curriculum Vitae. Is that reliable? Thanks for your aid and immense patience. --LLcentury (talk) 21:13, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, now I see that there was a lot of discussion here today, while I was at work and while I was at home during the evening. I do not know exactly what I can do, since you have been talking with Justletterandnumbers. Can I help you with anything? Nyttend (talk) 05:03, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
User:Nyttend, Hi friend! Yes,! just to know if the Curriculum Vitae is enough as reliable reference in Eduardo A. Roca. Best wishes and thanks for your help. --LLcentury (talk) 12:20, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry, but no, a curriculum vitæ is not a reliable source. Many people lie on their curricula vitarum, and a curriculum vitae is created without any outside review at all, so a CV does not provide us any reason to believe it. However, it can be useful for your research. If you find a CV, you can try to verify what it says: for example, if someone's CV says that he worked for a certain company in a certain year, you could try to find reliable documents that say he worked for that company then. Does that make sense, or is my English too complicated for you? Nyttend (talk) 22:34, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Also, please know that newspapers are often not reliable, as Justletterandnumbers notes. A good, reliable source is one that is written by an expert or is reviewed by an expert, and journalists often are neither. Also, a newspaper article will not cite its sources, and it's very important to know where a source got its information. Nyttend (talk) 22:37, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Eduardo A. Roca

User:Nyttend Hi friend!, I've removed the CV and added three books as references. Could you please check it (if you wish to do so of course). :) --LLcentury (talk) 23:09, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Checked. In almost all cases, if you already have a citation for something, there's no need to add more citations if you keep the first citation. All of the citations to the books came in such situations, so I've removed the book citations and moved the books into a "Bibliography" section. That way, the reader can still know that these books are useful, and they're convenient for you if you later want to cite them when adding content. Nyttend (talk) 02:26, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

On 18 June 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Eduardo A. Roca, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Eduardo A. Roca, Argentina's permanent representative to the United Nations during the Falklands War, accused the UK of aggression and condemned the US for supporting it? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Eduardo A. Roca. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Eduardo A. Roca), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Citing sources

Hello!

Perhaps you could familiarise yourself with the templates used for citing sources, such as this one?

While using a plain URL link will suffice, it doesn't carry much information, and merely results in more work for other editors further down the track in raising the quality of the article to more normal standards. You are putting a lot of work in by providing sources, and it would be more efficient to use existing templates at the time of insertion. Thanks! --Pete (talk) 21:35, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:TomohiroKatoconfrontedbyPolice.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:TomohiroKatoconfrontedbyPolice.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
