Potential disambiguation?

Hello R96Skinner. I write in regards to the entry you created for "Franco Costa". I was trying to translate the Franco Costa page on Wikipedia Germany (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco_Costa) and this seems to be linked to Franco Lautaro Costa instead (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco_Costa).

Do you know how we could solve the disambiguation?

Thanks SamuelCosta (talk) 17:42, 3 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2014–15 FA Cup Qualifying Rounds, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Westfield F.C.. That was intentional. I realize this is a bot but it doesn't work correctly, I clearly stated it was intentional on the post. R96Skinner (talk) 09:53, 6 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about 2014 Belgian Super Cup

Hello, R96Skinner,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether 2014 Belgian Super Cup should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2014 Belgian Super Cup .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks, Mr RD 19:04, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of 2014 Absolute Sports Travel Cup

The article 2014 Absolute Sports Travel Cup has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable friendly cup that fails WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. BSL 2016

Hello sir, may I express my sincere gratitude for creating and updating the article 2016 Brunei Super League. It's only a small league in a small country and the FA are in shambles and they just won't update their site with even the current tables, so the wiki page is gonna be only one of the very few sources for the league's info online.

I still can't get my head around the Tabuan Muda teams. The current one playing in the BSL are the U21s as stated explicitly by various sources, and the U15s last year became the U17s and replaced the U18s in the BPL. And from what I heard the U18s last year aren't gonna play in the 2016 AFF U-19 Youth Championship. かぴさん Kapisan (talk) 02:56, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! No worries, don't mention it! Thank you the kind words.

I enjoy learning about the lesser known leagues and realised the BSL 2016 article hadn't been created yet despite the season starting recently so thought I'd help out and create it. It was difficult to find some of the information, for example I couldn't see why so many matches involving Indera and Kasuka have been postponed since the abandoned match between them two. Hope I did the league justice though.

Indeed, the Tabuan Muda teams are odd. I could find information for the Premier League team, but a little less on the Super League team. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi there R96S, from Portugal,

deal must have been upgraded (for lack of a better word) or something. I swear to you the La Voz de Galicia reference said he had signed a permanent contract with Deportivo (i.e. "...llega en propiedad hasta 2020", meaning roughly "...property of the club until 2020"). However, the source you now showed me indeed has developments (from 12 JULY, as opposed to mine from five days earlier), I have made the due amendments in article.

Sorry for any inconvenience, thanks for the help and happy editing --Be Quiet AL (talk) 17:23, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Women's Football / Soccer Task Force News: August 2017

Should the women's football task force become WikiProject: WOSO?

According to an op-ed in the recent Signpost, some editors think task forces and subgroups are dying in 2017.

What do you think about forming our own WikiProject separate from WP:FOOTY? There's an on-going discussion of the potential pros and cons on the task force talk page. Input is welcome.

Recent developments

New initiatives have been created for:

  • FA WSL (England's top-division league)
  • NCAA (American university teams, conferences, etc.)
  • W-League (Australia's top-division league)
Ongoing tournaments
Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues
Did you know?

While WP:FPL lists only two women's top-division leagues as notable due to its "fully professional" criteria, did you know you can create an article on any player in any league as long as the references meet WP:GNG guidelines? Make sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}.

Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks page if you'd like and other editors may be able to help. Need tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors? Leave a message on the task force talk page.

Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)!

Fabio Álvarez

Hi R96Skinner. This player's real name is Favio [1]. Greetings, --186.19.217.1 (talk) 23:45, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the message. I'm not 100% sure which is correct. Most English speaking reliable sources I've seen call him Fabio (e.g. Soccerway), whereas a few non-English speaking sources (e.g. Tucuman's players profiles) name him as Favio. Just look at Tucuman's official Twitter account. On 11 October, they called him Favio [2]. On 15 October, they call him Fabio [3]. Confusing! Do you have any other reliable sources 186.19.217.1? Hey, I suppose his Facebook profile [4] but I don't know whether it is a reliable source. --186.19.217.1 (talk) 01:26, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2018 Club Atlético River Plate season

Hi, FerchuJenson!

I saw you created the 2018 Club Atlético River Plate season article. Why is this? League seasons are based on the league calendar, so for the Argentine Primera División clubs it is 2017–18; which River Plate already has a season article for (see: 2017–18 Club Atlético River Plate season). Am I missing something?

Thanks, R96Skinner (talk) 04:31, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The main problem is that, while AFA (Argentina Football Asociation) first division tournament is being played from August 2017 to May 2018, CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation, to which AFA is asociated) has scheduled its tournaments from January to December since January 2017 (being the main Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, the South American equivalents to UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League). For that reason, not considering a "2018 Season" for an Argentine team would imply having the main continental competition split in two different seasons). On the other hand, the "2018 Season" article has the domestic league starting from round 13. Clearly, the main reason for this seems to be the lack of coordination between CONMEBOL and its associated national entities. However, some media is suggesting that AFA is going to adapt the Jan-Dec calendar in order to be synchronized with CONMEBOL. (https://www.ole.com.ar/futbol-primera/torneos-cortos-vuelta-superliga-formato-futbol-argentino_0_1935406460.html) (the source is in spanish, is an article from the web page of the main sports newspaper of Argentina. FerchuJenson (talk) 04:47, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If a decision is going to be made, I would like to know, because I'm planning to create missing articles from former seasons, and the problem with Jan-Dec CONMEBOL and Jul-Jun AFA is going to reappear. And to make things worse, Argentina Top division has had Jan-Dec tournaments in 2015, half season tournaments and CONMEBOL has had Copa Libertadores (South American Champions League) from January to June/July/August (from the 90s to 2016) and Copa Sudamericana (South American equivalent to UEFA Europa League) from August to December (2002-2016). FerchuJenson (talk) 04:57, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fine with any decision taken. Perhaps I shouldn'n have spent much time on an article without being sure that it was not going to be asked for deletion, but that's just my fault. So, for the future, if I'm going to create articles of former seasons, you mean that I should just consider the season of the national league instead of the international competitions? That's a good starting point. My reasoning had been "Continental entity is more important that national entity, so I should organize based on the first." But I will do the opossite if that's what the admins consider best. Just remember to notify me when the decision is made.FerchuJenson (talk) 06:52, 17 January 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by FerchuJenson (talkcontribs)

Just happened to check your user page, and saw that you created a lot of articles of 2017-18 seasons of teams from Argentina (including River Plate 2017-18 season), so I guess I was talking with someone who had worked a lot on it. As far as I'm concerned, it's ok to let the seasons as they are, but keep in mind that continental competitions will be split in two diferent articles (as they take part in two different Jul-Jun seasons). That's what happened with 2017 Copa Libertadores, when you go to the article, you just find half of the matches played. So neither 2016-17 nor 2017-18 will feature the totality of the games player by the team on Copa Libertadores or Copa Sudamericana. To finish, I wanted to congratulate you for your work on Argentinian teams season articles.FerchuJenson (talk) 07:11, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Your edits on the 2018 article are good, can tell you have put work into it; just at the incorrect moment. Yeah, as I mentioned, it isn't ideal but I think it's the best way to do it all things considered. R96Skinner (talk) 08:26, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The article Agustin Gómez has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails NFOOTY as has not played or managed senior international football nor played or managed in a fully professional league, his sole appearance in the Sedish cup was not in a match involving two teams from fully professional leagues. No indication that subject has garnered significant reliable coverage for any other achievements to satisfy GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello WOSO editors! A few initiatives have been started with an emphasis on making more WOSO links blue (similar to the work that WikiProject Women in Red does) and filling in the gaps within various league, team, and player, etc. articles.

If you're interested in collaborating with others to make more links blue, take a look at the initiatives listed in the box below. Sign up at the bottom of an initiative page and help grow the lists, add potential references, resources, and create the articles ... or create your own initiative.

Did you know ...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in 1 active women's league)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

Scott McTominay

Because it’s a nothing award made up by the club because they wanted to give McTominay something. They couldn’t give him Reserve Player of the Year because he hardly plays in the reserves any more, and he was never going to win any other award. IMO, if this “award” is ever given again, I’ll be very surprised. – PeeJay 22:37, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your requested moves at WP:RM/TR

Hi. You might have missed a relevant bit of information about the 2013 Supercopa Argentina page et al: it is related to 2012–13 Copa Argentina and 2012–13 Argentine Primera División season, both being concluded in (and mostly about) 2013, so the fact that it eventually took place in early 2014 shouldn't really matter much in the article naming. -- 46.97.13.26 (talk) 18:23, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, i had no idea you already asked about this issue before. Guess there are not enough Argentinian wikipedians in that WikiProject Football... :-| Fwiw, i already posted at WP:RM/TR, because i didn't know how to just delay the three current ones. -- 46.97.13.26 (talk) 18:44, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Can't find a reliable source, but at least i found this informal image that clarifies that Supercopa Argentina 2016 is what took place in Feb 2017. And, yes, i guess the relevant Supercopa Argentina pages might be good places to notify. Or we could wait for the contributors to notice the moved page and protest. :-) -- 46.97.13.26 (talk) 18:57, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey R96Skinner, please if you can create pages for Argentinian football players Matías Orihuela, Israel Coll and Sebastián Caballero. Also, if you can please, create a page for Argentinian volleyball player Edgardo Lioca. Thanks a lot!

Erm, sure - I'll add them to my to-do list; except the vollyball player Edgardo Lioca, I don't know enough about VB to create it - sorry. Not that one is needed, as the footballers are all notable, but I'm curious, any particular reason? I assume that it's due to them playing in Greek football? P.S. Don't forget to use four tildes (~) to sign your posts, it's a good way for users to know who is who! :) R96Skinner (talk) 20:17, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much, R96Skinner! Yes, because they play in Greek football and it's good here to people know them. Lioca plays for AEK V.C. (http://www.volleyball-movies.net/edgardo-lioca-p2799). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8F1:1604:1800:E191:AC47:BB6D:BA88 (talk) 15:51, 19 September 2018 (UTC) Also, Sebastián Caballero plays for Volos N.F.C.[reply]

No problem! I've created the three footballers. As for the volleyball player, it'll probably be best to request the article's creation over at Wikipedia:Requested articles/Sports for someone more in the know. Or you could give it a try yourself? Wikipedia:Your first article would be a place to start, if needed. R96Skinner (talk) 18:38, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for everything! You edit pages only for Argentinian footballers? Maybe, can you edit about good Greek players that they are very talented, or not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8F1:1604:1800:E4BD:EDC7:33D2:17CE (talk) 19:40, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also, at this pages: AEK B.C. and AEK Women's Volleyball Club the emblem have changed. At AEK Women's Volleyball Club the emblem is the same like AEK V.C. and at AEK B.C. the emblem have changed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8F1:1604:1800:E4BD:EDC7:33D2:17CE (talk) 19:44, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just so you know, I reverted your edit on Sebastián Caballero because he has been there since 2017 (according to Soccerway) so his amount of appearances isn't known. Is there any Greek statistical websites you know of? R96Skinner (talk) 23:13, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you edit the names of the teams Apollon Smyrni F.C. and Asteras Tripoli F.C.? The right names are Apollon Smyrnis F.C. and Asteras Tripolis F.C., as you can see in the emblem of the team. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8F1:1604:1800:481F:87B4:AA1A:E452 (talk) 08:23, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I believe they are named as such due to WP:COMMONNAME - it is (I assume) their most common used name in English-speaking sources. I don't necessarily agree with doing it like that, but it's the way it is. You could create a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football, see if others agree. 13:01, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi. Yeah I did see that via the Sport 24 article, but Soccerway states it's a permanent deal. From what I found in reliable sources, it was 1v1 so decided to side with the more reliable, for Wikipedia at least, source which is Soccerway. Have you found any articles that would class as a reliable source which states it's a loan deal? R96Skinner (talk) 11:43, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's many talented Greek footballers like Stefanos Stroungis (of Atromitos F.C.), Stathis Chatzilampros (of Levadiakos F.C.), Panagiotis Tzimas, Giannis Christopoulos, Kyriakos Glezos and Georgios Kanellopoulos (of Asteras Tripolis F.C.), Thodoris Venetikidis (of PAS Giannina F.C.), Konstantinos Thymianis, Giannis Fakis and Rafail Melissopoulos (of Xanthi F.C.) and Vangelis Nikokyrakis (of OFI Crete F.C.) are very good players and they didn't have wikipedia page yet and i think they should have. Hi R96Skinner, I really don´t mind your revert there, but only because we don´t have a clear source indicating what really was his spell at Rosario Central, as if youth career, or as senior reserve. The BDFA source clearly indicates his stats as senior, but the newspapper report says he came trough Rosario youth ranks. So the two are slightly cotradicting, although it is possible he was both.

However, I need to adress that your reasoning is incorrect. We discussed this some time ago at FOOTY and there was an agreement to start adding in infobox the senior career as soon as a player in incorporated in the senior team regardless if he debuted or not. Meaning that 0 (0) stats at begining of career are perfectly fine if the player was part of the senior squad. That way we display player´s career without leaving readers wondering if a player begins having stats in the infobox in late age, exemple 22, because we dunno his career, or because he didn´t played. Zero-zero´s stats help clarifiying that, and are a good thing. I think in Herranz case seems that he was playing at Rosario Central academy, then he was incorporated to the first team, he been there just a year failing to debut, and moved to another club. But since we fail to have more clarifiying sources, I am OK whatever the edit there is, however, I ask you please to drop that reasoning of removing clubs from begining of career in infobox because alegedly they just trained. If they were part of first team, that should be added in infobox accordingly. Best regards, FkpCascais (talk) 00:03, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I agree with that. If a player is a full member of the first-team squad then that does need to be incorporated in an infobox, regardless of first-team appearances. Certainly. What I was saying was I assumed he had been called up to train with Rosario Central's senior squad before a match in 2015, but never made the matchday eighteen. When I've been following BDFA, they and Soccerway seem to add players to the first-team squad lists for these situations alone so it can make it difficult to figure out if a reserve/youth player has simply trained with the first-team or is an actual member of the first-team. I wasn't clear with my edit summary, I also ended with a question mark as I wasn't too sure. R96Skinner (talk) 00:22, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Whilst that is seemingly true, an Instagram story doesn't satisfy as an reliable source unfortunately. Do you know if Monterrey themselves or any media have confirmed it anywhere via a reliable outlet? Soccerway haven't confirmed his number yet, nor have Monterrey's website or their official store. Hi there.

  • The use of {{Soccerbase season}} is standard for English Football League players;
  • Being on the bench is not indicative of him being a first-teamer, saying he was in the first-team from 2016–17 onwards is not correct;
  • We don't need 'Continental' as a column, 'Other' is sufficient

Any other questions let me know. GiantSnowman 14:25, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Reuben Acquah

Hey. Could you maybe help me updating this player? I can't really find out who he is owned by. Some sources say that he joined LASK Linz in the summer 2016, others say that he joined KF Tirana directly from Belgium and not on loan from LASK. Then FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda announced that they had signed a 4-year deal with the player, but in the summer 2018 he played for the reserve team and sat on the bench for the first team. And he was recently loaned out to TSV Hartberg where the club (for the first time) confirms that it's on loan from LASK.. But I can't find any official source that says that he ever signed for LASK. I've been searching for a while now and have given up, but maybe you could figure this out! :D Fodbold-fan (talk) 21:18, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Fodbold-fan That's quite the mix-up! Always happy to help, if I can. Not entirely sure here though, but GhanaSoccernet (which, from my admittedly minor experience, is pretty reliable) say every move since Mechelen has been on loan from LASK. However, that DAC press release certainly makes a mess of things. Perhaps their PR team got it wrong? Difficult to say. Tirana said he came from Belgium, though that's pretty open-ended; they don't mention that he was signed from Mechelen, just that he played there last which is factual. Feel free to ask others, or at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football, but in my opinion - I'd agree with GhanaSoccernet, especially as Soccerway say similar... and they have appearances to prove he played for LASK's reserves. R96Skinner (talk) 22:00, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Though GSN say he joined LASK in 2006 - fairly sure that's a typo! Unless he joined them at the age of ten! :D R96Skinner (talk) 22:04, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hahaha, I think they mean 2016 ofc ;) Could you maybe update the page then? Fodbold-fan (talk) 22:07, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Done; though it seems Ghanasoccernet are contradicting themselves with the DAC transfer. Most recent GSN article still, arguably the best bet though. R96Skinner (talk) 10:34, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Family categories

The general rule for me is - will it have sufficient entries to merit being created; is it defining of the people; are there other categories like that out there? GiantSnowman 18:39, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Argentine footballers

Hi R96Skinner, I was looking at Category:Orphaned articles from April 2019 and I noticed that a significant number of articles in that list consists of articles created by you about Argentine footballers. These pages are Orphans, which means not a single other page on Wikipedia has a link to them. At Wikipedia:Orphan it's explained why orphans are undesireable. To be honest, I'm not really sure whether all of these articles about not-so-well-known footballers are notable, but I don't know anything about football in the first place, so that's not for me to judge. However, if they are notable, I think it it would make sense that there are other articles that mention them. Could you look into ways to prevent creating orphaned articles in the future and maybe de-orphan the ones you have created? Kind regards, Lennart97 (talk) 12:27, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Lennart97! I've noticed that, and find it annoying too. Per Wikipedia's NFOOTY/GNG guidelines they are notable, but the problem lies within the NFOOTY project itself. Eventually these articles will be linked via club article squad lists, club squad templates, club season articles and, sporadically, in the competition articles and within each players articles. So plenty of links will come, but as all of my article creations are of Argentine players/players based in Argentina its a long road to update these things, especially as its pretty much just me and a few in-and-out editors. R96Skinner (talk) 16:29, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that makes sense. I'm glad you're aware of it! Good luck! :) Lennart97 (talk) 16:49, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! For any future article creations, I will add a temporary squad list to each club article - which will cap the amount of orphan articles I create. R96Skinner (talk) 17:19, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

NPSL Statistics

They're almost non-existent and very patchy. Sometimes individual season stats are available, usually from around 2013-14. Then they don't really exist except for the odd club who tracked them. From last season onward, all games are recorded, so you individually have to go through each fixture to see who appeared, who scored, etc. That said, last seasons fixtures seem to have disappeared and I can't find an archive. Basically, not great! --UncleTupelo1 (talk) 09:02, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Leandro Maciel, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page River Plate (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Birth year Nicolas Gomez

Hi R96Skinner,

thank you for your contributions, I am very impressed. When you created Nicolás Gómez (footballer, born June 1992) you added a comment that 1993 is wrong on Soccerway. The German Wikipedia claims 1993, and so do a number of external sources other than Soccerway: [5] [6] [7]. Now it is entirely possible that these other sources just coppied Soccerway, and you seem to be very confident in the 1992 year. Thus I marked 1992 as the preferred value in Wikidata, and I want to go ahead and clean it up on the German Wikipedia as well, but just wanted to ask quickly about how you came to the 1992 decision.

I am not questioning you, I trust you are an expert in the area - I am just curious and want to learn. Thanks! Cheers, --denny vrandečić (talk) 23:37, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, denny vrandečić! Thank you for your kinds words, but I'm no expert! :D As for Gomez, I'm not entirely sure. I usually trust Soccerway for the majority of articles, so I must have seen 1992 reliably shown elsewhere. The Ecuadorian Football Federation have him born in 1992, as do Ecuagoal. However, those usually wouldn't be enough to change my preference from Soccerway - especially as Diario Correo say he was 24 when he joined Fuerza Amarilla (therefore making DOB as 1993). I'm not 100%, but I must've seen an article elsewhere that confirmed 1992 but forgot to leave it as a reference. Looks like it worked out though, as Soccerway shows 1992 now. Nowadays, I always leave a source for DOB/height. R96Skinner (talk) 05:49, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, I think this is his Twitter account, and given that the Twitter handle is nicogomez2492 I deduce that June 24 '92 is correct and that you got it right! :) (I also sent a inquiry to his club, which happened before I discovered his Twitter account, which would make a better source). Thanks, I'll let it rest a few days and then make the changes to the German Wikipedia! --denny vrandečić (talk) 18:25, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, we'll see! I'd say 1992 is correct, especially as Soccerway changed their DOB from 1993 to 1992. R96Skinner (talk) 18:31, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I asked him on Twitter. He says 1992. I'm going to lock that answer in. Thanks! --denny vrandečić (talk) 22:59, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I recently came across the article Leandro Ignacio Carubini, which states the player has appeared in the Primera B Nacional. However, I can't seem to verify this. It seems the player was with Central Córdoba during the 2009/10 season in the Primera B Metropolitana (therefore passing WP:NFOOTY), though I've been unable to find any information/match reports from the season. I've noticed you've done a lot of work with Argentine football, so I was wondering if you would know if there are any sources to check this information? Thanks, S.A. Julio (talk) 15:14, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, S.A. Julio! It doesn't look like it. The reliable BDFA (here) say he has no appearances in Primera B Metropolitana or above, only in Primera C Metropolitana and Torneo Argentino B. Hopefully the article can get some editors more in the know to help out. R96Skinner (talk) 03:23, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. If you disagree with how Wikipedia is currently doing things, you are entirely in your right to discuss change - I'd even recommend doing so, given you evidently feel strongly about this. However, you are currently not doing things correctly - and are in danger of becoming disruptive, if not already. Open a discussion at a respective talk page, for example: Talk:Dzongree FC or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football, and fellow editors will help you change things, if they indeed need changing. Do it the right way, and editors will be more willing to listen to you. R96Skinner (talk) 01:02, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Adam Dodd

Good evening. Thank you for commenting on my AfD for Adam Dodd. You are correct, Dodd did indeed play for Ayr United during the 2011-12 season. At this time, Ayr played in the 'Scottish Division One', as the Scottish Championship was yet to be created. I had suggested that Ayr did not play in one of Wikipedia's 'Professional Leagues', as Scottish Division One is neither listed within Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Fully professional leagues as a former league, as is the case with the new defunct professional leagues in the United States, nor is it listed as a former name for the Scottish Championship.

Therfore, as the league was not mentioned at all within the list, I had concluded that the Scottish Division One as was present until the 2013-14 season, was not considered a professional league.

Perhaps it would be useful to clarify that Scottish Division One is to be considered a previous name for the Scottish Championship, as you suggest in your comments on the AfD, within the list of Professional Leagues to prevent any confusion in future. CurtNeiMeng (talk) 19:43, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Oh right, CurtNeiMeng, I can understand that to be fair. However, if you checked Soccerway as part of your 'before' then you'd see they class it as Championship, most AfD nominators at NFOOTY check around the statistical websites for this very reason. You do raise a good point about mentioning the name change, definitely. R96Skinner (talk) 20:57, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the advice. I removed the AfD anyway as I trusted your word. As I'm sure you can tell, by my numerous, rather embarrassing AfD errors today, that I am quite new to that side of wikipedia and certainly threw myself in far too quickly. I have removed all of my nominations from today and will certainly do much more research in future in regards to WP:NFOOTY before nominating for deletion. Curt内蒙 (talk) 21:01, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
All good, at least you had the understanding to withdrawal when editors made you aware - not all erroneous nominators do! It's all part of the learning process, I'm sure. R96Skinner (talk) 21:08, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

PS. I'd add the source once it was officially announced.

If/when it is announced by Olympiacos, please do! However, we need to be able to reliably report information on Wikipedia so adding rumours, however strong, aren't a good idea - see WP:Verifiability. R96Skinner (talk) 10:52, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nah mate, it's not a rumour, the player will arrive in Greece tonight, anyway as you wish.

Ferro General Pico

Hello!

Yesterday I edited the shorthand for the former club of Ignacio Jaúregui, Ferro Carril Oeste de General Pico to Ferro General Pico, instead of just Ferro Carril Oeste, but you reverted it back. Are you aware that there are at least three football clubs in Argentina that are called Ferro Carril Oeste, with the club from Buenos Aires being by far the most famous? Therefore it seems unhelpful to not make a distinction on what Ferro club you're talking about. Ferro Carril Oeste from General Pico are usually called Ferro General Pico or Ferro de La Pampa to not confuse it with the other Ferros. See Spanish Wiki[8], Facebook[9], Twitter[10], Instagram[11], etc[12], etc[13]. So, to me it's pretty clear that just Ferro Carril Oeste without something that refers to General Pico or La Pampa is not a good shorthand, and it's not what the club is usually called.

Edit: I now read your reasoning for undoing the revision and aparently you don't think that there is a need to differentiate between Ferro Carril Oeste de General Pico and Ferro Carril Oeste (from Buenos Aires)? Also, you seem unaware that Gral is shorthand for General? With all due respect, I think you may have been a little too hasty here. :)

Thanks! Sebisthlm (talk) 11:02, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Sebisthlm. I appreciate you coming to a talk page to discuss, as opposed to entering an edit war.
I understand that there are numerous Ferro clubs, but only one is referred to in the Ignacio Jaúregui article - so there isn't any confusion. You say Ferro Carril Oeste of Buenos Aires are the most well known Ferro, but that's purely an opinion-based belief. There are numerous Liverpool clubs, a few Real Sociedads, a few Crystal Palaces, a few Barcelonas, numerous Arsenals, a few River Plates... where do we draw the line? In the Jaúregui case, you pipped Ferro Carril Oeste to both "Ferro Gral Pico" and "Ferro General Pico"... that hardly makes it less confusing for a reader. If a player has played for multiple clubs of the same name, then it of course makes sense to differentiate - e.g. Neri Espinosa.
If you still disagree, then I'd recommend getting a further discussion going at Talk:Ignacio Jaúregui or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football so others can join in if they wish. If more editors agree with you, then I will too. R96Skinner (talk) 16:09, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but I don't think you addressed my points. If there are several clubs called Ferro Carril Oeste, Ferro Carril Oeste seems like a very bad way to refer to one of them unless you don't care about no confusing the reader.
Regards, Sebisthlm (talk) 01:48, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I did: There are numerous Liverpool clubs, a few Real Sociedads, a few Crystal Palaces, a few Barcelonas, numerous Arsenals, a few River Plates... where do we draw the line? We don't, intentionally, differentiate player article naming of Uruguay's Liverpool or Paraguay's River Plate or Ecuador's Barcelona - so why should Ferro Carril Oeste of General Pico be different? R96Skinner (talk) 01:59, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That strikes me as very odd. May I ask what the reasoning behind not differentiating between different entities that share the same (shorthand) name is? I mean, in this case the club differentiate themselves from other Ferros when refering to themselves. Everywhere outside Wikipedia the clubs are differentiated. Why not on Wikipedia? It also strikes me as inconsistent when the clubs are differentiated in this template.

Sebisthlm (talk) 12:06, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is full of inconsistencies, unfortunately. I wouldn't be against differentiating clubs of the same name, as long as it was consistent - which it isn't. The majority seem to agree that sticking with the club name is enough. As I said in my opening response, you could always open a discussion at Talk:Ignacio Jaúregui and/or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football to see what other editors think; which may lead to changes. R96Skinner (talk) 12:46, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So the name shouldn't be differentiated in this instance because the differentiation of club names are not consistent? I'm having trouble following the logic here. Sebisthlm (talk) 13:27, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You clearly disagree, which is fine. For the third time: Open a discussion at Talk:Ignacio Jaúregui and/or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football to see what other editors think. R96Skinner (talk) 14:53, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm not trying to make a big thing about it, and I'm not active enough to want to undertake a principle discussion in WP:Football, I'm genuinely just trying to understand the current consensus for future consideration. Sebisthlm (talk) 15:09, 14 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Question.

I saw you’ve edited on WP:NSKATE and thanks for your hard work. Just one thing I wanted to ask is if I feel standard of notability is kinda wrong and it really needs to be revised where should I suggest the article? Joanaones (talk) 11:51, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Joanaones! I don't have much knowledge of WP:NSKATE or anything Figure skating related... you may have seen some edits from me that were only minor disambiguation edits? However, the best place to discuss notability questions is at Wikipedia talk:Notability (sports). Just open a new discussion by hitting "New section" and editors more knowledgeable in that area will help you. R96Skinner (talk) 17:40, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It does not matter what country Banja Luka belonged when Miljevic's grandfather was born. If that were the case, the entire Russian national team who participated in the 1994 FIFA World Cup could not do it because they all were born in the Soviet Union.--MonFrontieres (talk) 21:26, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, how is it going? I just have one question. Why are you removing the stats of the number of games played and goals scored for Darío Ferreyra? It says in his statistics that he played 26 games in his first season with the club and there is a link from sportsport.ba that also states that he played 26 games and scored 1 goal. Why are you then removing the stats? I don't understand that part. User:Bakir123 (talk) 10:44, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Bakir123! Appreciate you reaching out, as opposed to an edit war. Can you not see the message in the editor? "<! --full statistics missing, source needed for Ferreyra's first three months with Velež Mostar-- >" Ferreyra joined Velež Mostar around January 2018, and unfortunately I - or any other editor - haven't found a source to show Ferreyra's statistics for those first six months with Velež. Sportsport.ba only have 2018-19 and 2019-20 but no 2017-18, while Soccerway only have 2019-20. If you can find a reliable source which shows Ferreyra's 2017-18 stats, then they can be added to the infobox - which needs the full statistics, otherwise it's misleading to the reader. R96Skinner (talk) 13:42, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Also, statistics shouldn't be updated until the article's source(s) have updated themselves. I'll let it go this time, as FlashScore confirms yesterday's appearance, but in the future you need to wait until, in Ferreyra's case, Soccerway and/or Sportsport.ba update - everything on Wikipedia needs to be instantly verifiable, you watching the match isn't sufficient as that counts as original research. What was wrong with my edits ?

I do not understand what was wrong with my edits on the Scott Pollock page please tell me what the problem was so I do not repeat it in the future JoeMama61 (talk) 20:30, 28 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, JoeMama61! Apologies for this late response, I don't use Wikipedia as much as I used to. I reverted your edits, whilst clarifying they were WP:GOODFAITH, because of the changes you made to the career statistics table. It isn't consensus to add individual columns named "Efl Trophy" or "Fa cup", you can see the correct way of using the stats table here; please note that isn't entirely correct, but it gives a good idea of how it should be done. I'd always recommend looking at other well-edited articles, Cristiano Ronaldo's/Messi's/Rooney's etc., to see how it's done there. If you are still unsure, please do open a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football where numerous other editors will help you. R96Skinner (talk) 06:50, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dimitri Lavalée

You have done a mistake on Lavalée ‘s topic . With Standard de Liège , he has played 6 match ( 3 belgian league, 1 Europa League and 2 Cup) . I don’t understand why you just write his match in belgian league ?

Sorry if I did mistakes, I am from Belgium and I don’t speak very well english. Fan de tennis (talk) 22:29, 21 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Fan de tennis! The infobox only includes league matches (Pro League only in Lavalée's case), there's a disclaimer at the bottom of the infobox: "Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only ..." Cup/European apps/goals go into the "Career statistics" section. I believe it is done this way as cup/continental appearances/goals aren't always easy to reference, whereas league apps/goals are more common. R96Skinner (talk) 00:42, 23 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Source??

Bruuhhh are you kidding me? Do you really expect a source for updating how many games the player have played? How can you allow yourself to be picky here at Wikipedia, when there is thousands of articles that hasn't been updated in I dont know how many years or months! Come on bruh, don't make it mad for me, I'm updating a lot of articles every day and if we have any hopes of one day having all football articles updated, then don't be so orderly. Instead, you should be happy that I'm doing such a great job. You know I'm not updating shit. I just dont see any sense of finding another source and put it in the article (when I'm only updating played games and goals) when my main source is Transfermarkt (which is seen as unreliable here at Wikipedia). Otherwise, as you can see, when it comes to transfers and such, I always add the source (and sorry for my bad English). Fodbold-fan (talk) 00:17, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Fodbold-fan: It doesn't matter what I think: Wikipedia:Verifiability is the pinnacle. A source is a requirement, not a until-you-are-trusted half-hearted thing. It really is that simple. You do indeed do a good job, but you aren't perfect - no-one is. Lastly, I'm not being 'picky' - all of the edits I have directed to your attention are articles I've previously created, so are therefore on my watchlist. I have not - and will not - check up on your contributions and/or check through your other edits... that would be me being picky. Follow the guidelines and you won't receive any warranted reverts.
