UK Air Training Corps Ranks

Hi, can you provide citation for the change in the listed ranks for officers in the Air Training Corps article? You link to an OTRS ticket which is not accessible, so provides no citation for the change. - Cdjp1 (talk) 12:26, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cdjp1, In the edit I included [1], but realize I forgot to include [2]. I have gone and included it. [3] was also provided, but I don't think that is reliable. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 16:30, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The MOD PDF makes no mention of any ranks. The Air Cadet website mentions no ranks below Pilot Officer or above Wing Commander. Air Cadet 101, isn't official, but is the only one of the three that shows the ranks in questions. Here is an official Squadron website that provides a slide provided by HQ Air Cadets regarding rank slides [4], this supports the change you have made. Here is another Squadron website that shows the standard Group Captain rank slide, [5], this is also in line with who Group Captains are in the Air Training Corps, those commissioned using the Cadet Forces Commission (CFC) wear rank slides showing RAFAC, where as Group Captains in the Air Training Corps are not commissioned using the CFC and are instead commissioned officers of the Royal Air Force Reserve, and so do not wear RAFAC insignia (this was the case as well when it was the VR(T) commission before the CFC). The Ambassador to the Air Cadets is commissioned under the CFC and so wears Group Captain ranks which show the RAFAC as opposed to the standard Group Captain ranks. You can see here that Group Captain Mark Leeming (Group Captain for the North Region) does not wear RAFAC identifiers on his No.1 Uniform. The same can be seen of the Wales and West Region Group Captain and the South West Region Group Captain. Whilst the official regulations for Air Cadet uniform ACP 1358C does show the RAFAC Group Captain rank slide as would be worn by the Ambassador to the Air Cadets, though this dress regulation would not apply to the Group Captains who act as Regional Commandants due to being part of the RAF Reserve (and so subject to AP1358) - Cdjp1 (talk) 17:21, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Cdjp1, To be honest, I don't really understand this very well -- I'm a naval person not an air person :) -- so I invite you to make whatever change you think appropriate, as you seem to have a pretty solid grasp of it. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 17:29, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try to find out info for the Officer Cadet/Acting Pilot Officer and where that actually stands, but for now I'll just change back the Group Captain Part. - Cdjp1 (talk) 17:32, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2020 November newsletter

The 2020 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round going down to the wire. Our new Champion is England Lee Vilenski (submissions), the runner-up last year, who was closely followed by England Gog the Mild (submissions). In the final round, Lee achieved 4 FAs and 30 GAs, mostly on cue sport topics, while Gog achieved 3 FAs and 15 GAs, mostly on important battles and wars, which earned him a high number of bonus points. Botswana The Rambling Man (submissions) was in third place with 4 FAs and 8 GAs on football topics, with New York (state) Epicgenius (submissions) close behind with 19 GAs and 16 DYK's, his interest being the buildings of New York.

The other finalists were Gondor Hog Farm (submissions), Indonesia HaEr48 (submissions), Somerset Harrias (submissions) and Free Hong Kong Bloom6132 (submissions). The final round was very productive, and besides 15 FAs, contestants achieved 75 FAC reviews, 88 GAs and 108 GAN reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2021 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hello, CaptainEek. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "List of endangered plants in Arizona".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. If you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 00:18, 4 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Block of Philip H Taylor

Greetings! You had blocked this user based on legal threats. The user has retracted those threats. I don't think there's obvious sockpuppetry going on with this user. Do you have any concerns about their conduct or conditions that should be imposed if they were to be unblocked? —C.Fred (talk) 17:37, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@C.Fred: I think there's a COI/PAID issue that I would check before unblocking too. In fact I'm pretty certain he intimated he was being paid, so he needs to clearly disclose that first. Otherwise I'd just keep an eye on him if unblocked as he was pretty disruptive previously. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 18:29, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
And that concerns me about his behaviour. He went back and forth. He did admit he was paid, then walked back and said he wasn't paid, but yet he was a manager.... I'd be tempted to offer an unblock with a topic ban, but I don't think he'd go long without violating it. —C.Fred (talk) 19:01, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@C.Fred: My take: if you're gonna unblock, partial block him from th mainspace so he can only make edit requests. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:06, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In response to your comment on my talk page: the Planned presidential transition of Joe Biden article could not be moved directly to Presidential transition of Joe Biden because the latter was occupied by a redirect to the former. Just so you know. RandomCritic (talk) 16:25, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@RandomCritic: If you had asked an admin they could have done it properly, as they can overwrite redirects and merge history. In the future if you need to overwrite a redirect, please ask for a technical move :) CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:20, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Months of African Cinema Contest Continues in November!

Greetings,

Thank you very much for participating in the Months of African Cinema global contest/edit-a-thon, and thank you for your contributions so far.

It is already the middle of the contest and a lot have been achieved already! We have been able to get over 1,500 articles created in over fifteen (15) languages! This would not have been possible without your support and we want to thank you. If you have not yet listed your name as a participant in the contest page please do so.

Please make sure to list the articles you have created or improved in the article achievements' section of the contest page, so that they can be easily tracked. To be able to claim prizes, please also ensure to list your articles on the users by articles page. We would be awarding prizes to different categories of winners:

  • Overall winner
    • 1st - $500
    • 2nd - $200
    • 3rd - $100
  • Diversity winner - $100
  • Gender-gap filler - $100
  • Language Winners - up to $100*

We are very excited about what has been achieved so far, but your contributions are still needed to further exceed all expectations! Let’s create more articles before the end of this contest, which is this November!!!

Thank you once again for being part of this global event! --Jamie Tubers (talk) 10:30, 06 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Anti-gay death threats

This is posted on my commons page [6]. I know you're not an admin there, but I was hoping you or Barkeep49 could point my to the correct place to have this addressed properly. I'm rarely on commons, so its almost certainly someone from en WP.

Sorry I have to bring such filth to you. I hope you are both well and happy. Best wishes,   // Timothy :: talk  02:23, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notify the admin board on commons, and you can always email emergency@wikimedia.org for death threats and the like. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 02:32, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I let a commons admin on IRC know and trust they'll take care of it. Sorry you had that pointed your way Timothy. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 02:35, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

I read the instructions immediately before leaving the chat and should have stuck around 🤦🏽‍♀️. I'll definitely make sure to stick around next time (the last time I had to request REVDEL early last year there was a different interface). Nate (chatter) 04:38, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding arbitration

Just FYI, I have been in discussion with EdChem at his talk page, and he advised me not to go to arbitration at this time as he was planning on another mediation attempt at WT:ELEM. So I had decided against going there, but if User:Sandbh decides he is in favour of going there himself, of course this can continue. Double sharp (talk) 21:52, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Case

I am skeptical about those two sailors whose bows you fired a warning shot across. I think that they will be back. I think ArbCom can be too eager to avoid battle, or to avoid sitting as an admiralty court, or something. Thank you for trying to deal with it. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:18, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Robert McClenon, To echo the words of Worm TT, its unfortunate that it took reading the riot act to even get the participants to consider solving their dispute, but I too fear this isn't over. If it can be peacefully resolved, I hope it will be, as I do not relish the drama involved otherwise. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 20:43, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. The riot act was originally a command by the authority of the King of England to end a breach of the peace that was already illegal. The riot act just increased the penalties. Similarly, disruptive editing is already against the rules, even before the riot act is read. We shall see. Robert McClenon (talk) 22:36, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I respectfully disagree with SoftLavender's criticism of you for filing an ArbCom case when you didn't know what it was about. It wasn't important to know what the content issues were (and two chemists addressed them, and they aren't that important, and ArbCom does not decide content). What was clear about conduct is that multiple editors used so many words that it was hard to understand what the issues were, and that is a conduct issue in itself. Besides, five trips to WP:ANI with no resolution is about three too many, or five too many. Robert McClenon (talk) 23:40, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm truly sorry I can't be more enthusiastic about your candidature, but I know your heart's in the right place, especially if you're friends with Bluerasberry (now that's someone who would be an excellent Arb, but he's probably too busy with all his off-Wiki activities). During the 1970s sailing was my semi-professional hobby. I often lend a seafaring wave to some of the things I write. This was an attempt to put a light breeze in a becalmed ocean of Wikipedia and get some more shipmates on board, but it didn't work:

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:44, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
